hello folks today I'm passing over to Dario  D Silva who's going to dive into some of the  

best log seek features he's going to explore a  many different aspects of it including queries  

plugins task management and the outline aspects of  log seek and just giving you I guess the general  

sources to the best elements of log seek last  time he came on here he had dreadlocks and things  

have changed so uh great to have Dario back on  a big thank you to creating this video you can

I'll pass you over to Dario hello key productive  viewers and thank you very much to Francesco for  

inviting me back onto the channel now it's the  same person I've changed Hao a little bit and  

I've also rebranded the channel name but still  looking at Knowledge Management and productivity  

I did a long beginner's guide to log seek and  an introduction to log seek whiteboards for this  

channel but in this video I quickly want to look  at the 10 best features of log seek to help you  

make a decision if this is the tool for you the  first three things worth drawing attention to are  

what I call the fundamental building blocks of log  seek firstly log seek is a local first text editor  

this means that all of the files that log seek  uses are stored as text files on your computer  

they are stored in markdown format a popular file  format that allows you to add formatting to plain  

text using special characters markdown is going to  be around for a long time there's no proprietary  

lockin like Evernote or notion as demonstrated  it can also be opened with any normal text editor  

such as notepad or vs code having log seek open is  basically the same as having all the text files on  

your computer open at the same time that you can  search through reference and edit effortlessly  

it's also stored on your computer's hard drive  which is great for privacy however you can also  

use cloud storage options such as one drive or  iCloud it's also worth throwing in at this early  

point that log seek is open source and free to  use the second building block is that log seek  

is an outliner an out ler is a specialized type  of text editor which enables you to structure  

your text in a branching tree like hierarchy as an  outliner log seek allows users to input organize  

and retrieve information at a more granular level  than a full document or file the smallest unit of  

information is called a block and you can think  of it as a paragraph or a bullet point within a  

larger document blocks can also act as a folder of  sorts you can indent related units of information  

under a higher level parent block as it's called  your outlines can be as simple or as complex as  

need did this script is structured as an outline  outliners allow you to collapse and expand in  

dented blocks zoom into different levels and  easily move information around at the Block  

Level it's almost like creating a mind map of text  I'm using the mark map plugin which we'll discuss  

later to show this here the final building  block and perhaps the most powerful is that  

log seek is a bidirectional linking tool at the  most basic level I can use square brackets or a  

hashtag which essentially creates a new page in my  database which is an object that I can reference  

just a quick functional thing to note only if I  navigate to that page and enter information does  

it create a text file on my computer what makes  bidirectional links so powerful is the creation  

of so-called back links in the page that is being  referenced when a link to a Target is created at  

some Source another link is created in the Target  location pointing back to the original source that  

means I can go to a page and see all the blocks  that have been linked to that page and all the  

source Pages too this becomes a powerful way to  collect your thoughts and information these links  

allow you to create multiple different hooks of  Association which facilitate improved retrieval  

you no longer have to remember in what folder you  stored something to navigate to the particular  

file to retrieve or input information you can  input information anywhere in your database and  

easily retrieve it allowing you to build flexible  bottomup organization and abandon the tedious  

constant searching for the correct location of  a file there are also page and block properties  

which can help you structure your information more  if you do want to add some organization another  

important point is that the links in your outline  are inherited when used effectively you can easily  

narrow down your search results to find exactly  what it is you are looking for so log seek is  

an all-in-one interface that uses these building  blocks as the foundation but there's more to it  

I'm going to move on and look at the features that  log seek advertises on their landing page because  

these are obviously important to their users  the first thing we see is task management log  

seek has a simple but powerful task management  system built in you can easily create tasks by  

using control or command enter and then cycle the  state of the task you can choose between a later  

now done workflow or to do doing done workflow  in the settings you can schedule items or add  

deadlines by using the forward slash selecting the  desired option and using the date picker there are  

also three built-in priorities a b or c which can  be added to an item using the forward SL finally  

there are a few other task management states such  as waiting or canel which can be activated using  

the forward slash or simply typed at the beginning  of a block to find all your tasks just create the  

relevant page and use your filters customization  options for task management are limited which  

may prevent some complex workflows but there's  also power to be found in the Simplicity next  

up we have PDF annotation an important part  of Knowledge Management is how we work with  

information in various sour s material and log  seek shines in this department with built-in  

PDF annotation you can easily upload your PDFs  which get stored in a folder in your log seek  

directory you can then use the highlighter and  screen grab tool to capture information and write  

your observations in a dedicated highlights page  for each file when you highlight a PDF log seek  

stores that information as text in your database  with the appropriate links you can easily return  

back to your highlights and view them in the  original Source next we have flash card cards  

if you're a student or anyone who likes to learn  using space repetition then logy could be a game  

changer for you if you've tried a dedicated flash  card program like Anki you know how difficult it  

can be to create flashcards with log seek all you  need to do is add it hasht card and boom you have  

a flash card you can access your flash cards by  navigating to the dashboard in your left menu bar  

you can create Pages for different topics which  allows you to choose the specific topic you'd  

like to review in your flashcard dashboard you  can also add media such as images and audio to  

your flashcards the final feature on the landing  page is the Whiteboard if you're a visual thinker  

log seeks whiteboard maybe your new best friend  it's an intuitive interface that allows you to  

integrate blocks and pages from your database as  you arrange information spacially on an infinite  

canvas you can also add images videos and even  websites to your whiteboards and if you have a  

touchcreen or tablet you can use freehand input  to draw or write handwritten notes the final  

three features are what I believe are important  considerations that potential users should be  

aware of first up is the mobile application  for those of us who like to take notes or  

reference information on the go log seek has got  a mobile app for both IOS and Android if you're on  

Android you have to downloaded via GitHub as it's  unfortunately not available via the play store yet  

obviously we want our notes to be synchronized  between our devices if you're log seek backer  

meaning you contribute $5 or more a month to log  seek via the open Collective page you can get  

access ACC to log six built-in sync solution it  offers a high security trust no one encryption to  

guarantee the privacy of your notes however many  people use third party services such as iCloud on  

Apple or sync thing on Android next up are plugins  and themes I'm using the term feature very Loosely  

here I guess but these offer users the ability  to customize their workflows and the appearance  

of their databases and also extend the use of log  seek with other programs there are now over 300  

plugins available in the plug-in Market Place  ranging from simple to complex if you navigate  

to The Marketplace you can sort the most popular  plugins based on the number of previous downloads  

or the number of GitHub Stars some plugins you may  want to look at are the Integrations with popular  

readit later apps readwise and omnivore which  help manage your knowledge workflows the Nifty  

journals plugin allows you to easily navigate  to a specific Data Page and bullet threading or  

Mark map are helpful ways to visualize your  outlines and familiarize yourself with this  

new approach of no take the final feature I  want to call attention to is queries one of  

the most important parts of Knowledge Management  is being able to resurface your information when  

you need it whilst you can always navigate to a  page and find linked and even unlined references  

log's powerful query functionality is an important  part of building robust workflows you can think of  

queries as saved searches they allow you to build  dashboards of sorts to easily access information  

that you want to return to log seek have built  a visual query Builder so that you don't have  

to master the query language you can also filter  your queries using Boolean logic and time-based  

filters if you're ever in out and need to find  something very quickly a simple text query will  

help you easily retrieve all possible matches  in your log seek database so that's a rundown
