Transcripts
I genuinely don't think that there's
anyone more credible to speak on this
topic than me because I used to be so
extremely insecure I used to cancel
plans last minute I used to absolutely
hate talking to people that I didn't
know even ordering food at a restaurant
I would get nervous about and and I
don't even know why I used to absolutely
just want to stay in my room so that
nobody could judge me or think of me and
I and I genuinely was like that and then
he fast four or 5 years later and now
I'm somebody that's the most confident
that I've ever been I'm somebody that in
my friend group people always think that
I'm the most confident and they'll ask
me hey June how are you so confident
right and it's crazy to think about that
transition but I've realized something
really really important confidence is a
skill it's something that we can build
and hopefully in this video I can teach
you exactly how to do that my name is
June Yu if you're new to the channel
welcome if you're returning welcome back
confidence is that one thing that all of
us really really desire confidence is
something that we tend to believe is a
natural gift for others and when it
comes to us an impossible feat to
achieve but I want to convince you
otherwise and I think that this video is
going to be extremely helpful it's
something that I wish that I listen to
early on if you get any value from this
video please leave a thumbs up and ask
any questions in the comments I'd be
more than happy to respond and of course
subscribe with that being said sit back
relax and enjoy the video number one
build a body of work I am really not a
fan of fake it till you make it I think
that works to a certain extent but if
you want to build genuine authentic
confidence it takes work and an analogy
that I always try to use is if you
imagine the greatest soccer player right
or greatest footballer they go on to the
pitch and they're performing in front of
thousands of individuals right that are
watching that are cheering that are
probably scrutinizing them and then
they're playing also on TV with millions
of people watching in real time and you
think how are they so confident on the
ball how are they so confident with
their movement do you really think that
they're so confident because they look
at a mirror and tell themselves a really
good soccer player before the match
probably not right the confidence is
derived from the work that they've put
in year round confidence is all about
the Reps not just the physical reps but
the mental reps constantly thinking
about and perfecting their craft that is
how you build genuine authentic
confidence confidence is having an
unable stack of proof that you are
exactly who you say that you are and
again that takes work so I encourage you
whenever you feel yourself being
unconfident this is when you can look
back at a body of work and say you know
what I've been able to achieve X Y and Z
or it's not even about what you've
achieved it's about what you've gone
through what you've actually applied
yourself through and if you try to fake
it till you make it I promise you those
individuals that have actually applied
themselves of for years of hard work can
see right through you and I've learned
that right I've learned that you can't
just walk into a room fake it till you
make it when you're in front of
individuals that are really really
really really skilled and talented and
experienced at what they do so don't be
afraid afraid of putting the work in cuz
that's where confidence is mainly going
to stem from number two remove yourself
from negative people because negativity
spreads like a virus and I think that
we've all experienced this where
somebody who is constantly complaining
will walk into a room and absolutely
suck the joy out of every single person
in that room we've seen it with teachers
we've seen it with potentially some of
our friends and I used to be somebody
like that I used to not understand the
impact my energy was having on the
people around me I didn't understand why
people would actually take a moment to
reflect before they would just speak out
their thoughts in the midst of
frustration and I'm not saying that
being frustrated being upset is wrong
and I'm not saying that you can't
vocalize it but you have to be mindful
of the energy that you're putting out
into the world because when you're
constantly surrounded by negative people
it will have an impact on the way that
you view the world and so if you want to
be surrounded by positive people you
also have to ensure that you're a
positive person too so that you can
build a support network of like-minded
individuals and I think that it's
extremely extremely important but I want
to add that when we say negativity
negativity doesn't just derive from
individuals in person it also derives
from the information and the content
that we put into our bodies right I
always say that a healthy diet is not
about the foods that you eat for your
stomach but it's about the thoughts and
the beliefs and the type of content that
you consume for your mind and your soul
so be careful right not just with
surrounding yourself with positive
people in real life but you definitely
know that you're going to have your
phone with you 24/7 right and if this is
filled with negativity you best believe
that's going to impact your confidence
and I don't want that for you number
three learn to enjoy your own presence
and your own thoughts being alone does
not mean you're lonely I used to be so
overly dependent on the approval of
other people and I had to wake up to the
reality that that is an impossible feat
to achieve you will never satisfy
everyone and that's actually going to
put a cyclic negative behavior in your
own mind of constant constant
detrimental thoughts of constant
self-hatred and that is the opposite of
what we want when it comes to confidence
right and so when you have an ability to
actually sit with your own thoughts and
I genuinely mean sit with your own
thoughts it really does unlock a new
dimension of fulfillment what do I mean
by this well in our society every single
minute we have constant inputs we're
told what to do there's societal
expectations and we look on social media
and then there's these trends that we
feel like we have to be a part of when
in reality we haven't even thought to
ask ourselves why are we doing this why
is this important to me how do I go
about doing this in a manner that aligns
to my own values how can I actually just
sit in the quiet and slow down a little
bit it's impossible for most people
because we're not wired that way and or
the people around us are certainly not
wired like that but I have to tell you
right now how much of a difference it
made when I started to actually care for
my own thoughts when I actually started
to question things a little bit more and
I have a healthy amount of skepticism
right and not just take things at face
value and then when I started to spend
time with myself I'm like wow this is
awesome like I don't need somebody to go
to the mall with to to buy clothes I
don't need to go to the restaurant with
somebody I don't have to go to X Y and Z
with somebody I can handle this myself
and I feel good in my own skin and I've
realized that when you can do that man
is that extremely powerful cuz you're
with yourself 24/7 right that is a fact
and if you can't turn on that switch in
your mind to think you know what I'm
worth spending time with I'm worth
investing in it's going to set you in a
bad path of constant cyclic behavior of
unconfident where I want you to be able
to tap into you I want you to be a
little bit more aware of how you're
feeling I want you to be a little bit
more confident and knowing that you are
capable alone and that's been a big
difference of mind that's number three
number four and this is kind of similar
to what I just mentioned but actually
saying no more often because you have to
realize when you say no it's deeper yes
the things that you actually want it's
setting boundaries in a manner that's
healthy I used to be the worst people
pleaser ever and you know what that does
to your confidence it's it's complete a
negative correlation right when you try
to be a bigger people pleaser the less
confident you are and I was doing that
to an extreme when somebody would say
something and say hey June can you do X
ynz hey June are you available for xynz
hey June do you want to hang out Friday
night and do X Y and Z when I know that
that's not necessarily line my value
system I would immediately say yes with
a smile when in reality I would come out
of that experience feeling so drained of
my energy you have to realize our time
our bandwidth is extremely limiting and
for you to then pay your attention to
the things that actually matter to you
and that will fulfill you and that will
energize you is such a better way to
build your confidence there's nothing
more damaging to your confidence than
going into an environment that you know
you don't want to be in in an
environment that you know that you're
going to be judged in an environment
that you know that is not going to
actually be positive to you and then
forcing yourself to be there anyways and
then think to yourself oh my gosh I have
to keep doing this because I'm
constantly chasing other people's
approval confidence going to really
start building for yourself the moment
that you can actually understand your
values and I think that's why we had to
start with hearing your own thoughts and
being okay with those and being alone
for a little bit and then saying no more
often right saying no does not mean
you're a mean person saying no does not
mean that nobody wants to be friends
with you in fact if you say no and
you're stying healthy boundaries and
then you see other people want to be
around you it's a good indication that
they didn't really care about your
well-being in the first place right so
be a little bit more intentional with
your time and there's a big Power in
saying no number five practice
communication I really started to
understand the difference between
somebody that's extremely technically
gifted and somebody that can actually
communicate their work right and
confidence in the workplace confidence
in your academics confidence in your
research confidence in The credibility
that you establish with a personal brand
all of that is is derived from an
ability to communicate your thoughts and
communication is a big skill but it's a
skill that a lot of us tend to lack cuz
we're not taught it like we're taught
math right it's not something that we're
taught taught science right and it's
even more arguably important than that
cuz you're constantly communicating
right the way that your body is
positioned the way that you speak the
inflection of your voice all of that is
a main form of communication that will
impact how other people perceive us and
we want to be able to provide
information in a manner that's actually
eloquent in a manner that's actually
going to dictate a response that we want
right so confidence comes from ability
speak your mind confidence comes from
being able to raise your hand in the
middle of the class knowing that you
might not necessarily know the answer
but you're willing to try and confidence
comes in a manner in which you can
actually communicate that and I really
really did find myself actually sitting
down and doing this like a skill because
it is a skill right and I've talked
about this before but when you're doing
any type of Public Presentation so many
people think that confidence with public
speaking is just something naturally
gifted when in reality for me before I
do a presentation I probably rehearsed
about 75 100 times right in my own time
and I've done a lot of that while
sitting in front of my computer or my
phone and recording myself and then I
would listen to myself and think about
the ums or the gaps or things that I I
didn't speak as clearly and then I would
literally mute myself and then watch my
body language I would see how are my
hands moving do I look engaged am I
smiling enough do I feel like I'm
relaxed do I feel feel like I'm actually
having The Stance of confidence and I
would do this over and over and over
again and those repetitions allow me to
feel more confident when it comes to the
presentation day but that communication
skill happens in all fronts and actually
interestingly enough building a personal
brand in real time helped me with this
so much because I'm constantly speaking
in front of a camera I'm constantly
speaking in front of my Instagram
stories and my Tik toks and that has me
realizing that yeah I don't have
everyone's been with for an entire 3
hours to just speak my thoughts and in
fact I have to be concise I have to be
impactful with what I say and when you
can be more confident with the way that
you speak it changes everything number
six learn to be a student and I actually
think this is probably the most powerful
one and it's fascinating because most
people don't think of this that way
everything in life is a skill and I talk
about that over and over and over and
over and over and over and over again
across all my content everything is a
skill from empathy to discipline to
consistency and now to confidence and
when you can start to recognize that and
really try to apply yourself and realize
that everything is learned man
everything is now in Your Capacity right
I feel that I was most unconfident
because I couldn't do what other people
could do or I didn't have what other
people had and it didn't help when I was
around a lot of people that came from a
better upbringing than me right I was in
a household where my dad was sleeping on
the living room floor cuz we couldn't
afford anything after my parents went
through a really really bad divorce and
we were going from smaller apartment to
smaller apartment to small apartment
like every other month that really hurt
my confidence because I felt like I was
less like I felt like I didn't have as
much I felt like I couldn't be a good
student as much as my peers were I felt
like I couldn't focus on my sports like
my peers could I felt like I couldn't do
anything as good as other people would
but I realized just because I couldn't
immediately pick up on things or I
wasn't a quick learner that I could in
fact learn and learning is the bridge
between the life that you live now and
the life that you want to live
everything that I've done up to this
point that I've been successful win did
not come naturally for me I was not
always a great student I had to work my
tail off to learn evidence-based
techniques and to apply them in the most
rigorous classes ever I had to go ahead
and learn how to train and be more
physically active in the gym I had to
learn how to create content I didn't
create content at all growing up I was
that individual that would post like one
photo every single year on Instagram and
thought that I was really cool because I
was a little bit more mysterious and
stuff but in fact I was just really
really insecure didn't even know how to
create content and I was really jealous
of those that could really make some
athetic content and post about it in
their lives and so what I'm trying to
tell you right now is that everything
that most people know me for whether
it's being a good student whether it's
being a successful business owner
whether it be a content creator whether
it be a really confident person like all
of those things have been learned and
those things did not come natural to me
whatsoever it took a lot of time and it
took a lot of effort but I achieved it
right and that gives me the most
confidence ever and all of these little
tips are are going to be interconnected
right because when we talk about the
body of work this has a lot to do with
that now when I think about any new
skill I know that I'm capable of
learning it might take me a while but I
know that I have the work ethic to go
and actually achieve it and a great
example of this is boxing recently I
know for a fact that I'm not going to
actually fight or I'm not going to
become a professional boxer or anything
and I sucked at boxing when I first
started but I had confidence right like
I knew that if I did it for long enough
I would get good at it as long as I put
in the repetitions the physical and the
mental ones I'll eventually get pretty
decent at it and I'm willing to do that
right and it's the same idea with
content creation there's actually a
newsletter from early last year when I
first started creating YouTube content
and this was my first time doing long
form content I wrote in it that I'm
going to be a successful YouTuber I said
that I'm going to have over 100,000
subscribers and I was so confident about
that I did not put a timeline on it I
didn't say that I would get it by x
amount of years or anything of that sort
that's not where the confidence was
derived from the confidence was I simply
knew that I would post a video every
single week I simply knew no matter how
chaotic my life is no matter how busy it
is with school with business with all
these things going on I was still going
to post a video every single week and I
was going to learn how to do this I was
going to watch other YouTubers I was
going to do my research and I was going
to figure out after my own
experimentation what things worked well
and what things didn't work well and
that truly comes from this idea that I
can learn anything if I put my mind
towards it even if it's going to take a
while and that's going to unlock every
opportunity for you in life and that
gives you a m sense of confidence so
those were all the tips that I can
provide for you when it comes to
establishing your own confidence I hope
that a lot of these you start to realize
are things that you can immediately
start doing these are things that are
actually practical that you can move
towards on a daily basis and it's not
something where confidence is just
solely naturally gifted to individuals
and it can't be attained by you it
absolutely can't be attained by you
confidence is done wonders in my life in
my last that I want to touch on is that
confidence is never you build it and
then it's there forever confidence is a
constant evolution of you working on
yourself confidence is a constant
evolution of building a bigger body of
work it's putting yourself in
uncomfortable situations and constantly
learning it has nothing to do with fake
it till you make it it has nothing to do
with you achieve one thing and then
you're confident for the rest of your
life and so I encourage you even if you
are watching this video and you are
somebody that feels more confident don't
stop there don't grow complacent there's
always areas that we can grow in life I
hope you enjoyed this video please leave
your comments below with any questions
I'd be more than happy to answer give
this video a thumbs up and of course

care of yourselves and I love you guys
