🚗 Resurrecting the R32 Skyline: From Barn Find to Body Shop
The journey of reviving an abandoned R32 Skyline begins months after its last update. Despite sounding like a tractor, the Skyline, left neglected for years by its previous owner, finally roars to life after a comprehensive overhaul of the fuel system and alternator wiring. The initial attempt at bodywork fails, leading to a decision to send the car to a professional body shop. Excitement builds as preparations are made to visit the shop, including acquiring a wing and corner lights from Facebook Marketplace. Arriving at Royal Drip Works, the anticipation is palpable. The video captures the moment of reunion with the Skyline, now sporting a new body kit and undergoing extensive repairs, especially to the damaged roof caused by a forklift accident. The narrative highlights the difficulty in sourcing parts for such a sought-after model, showcasing the partnership with Auto Indulgence for the body kit and the meticulous effort required to restore the vehicle's form.
🔧 Progress and Parts: The Ongoing Skyline Restoration
The second part of the script details a visit to the body shop not just to admire the car's progress, but also to deliver additional parts needed for completion. Amidst rain, the urgency to protect the newly acquired wing and side markers is palpable. The visit coincides with a promotion for new t-shirts, linking the project's progress with broader community engagement. Despite appearances suggesting minimal progress, the explanation reveals significant efforts behind the scenes, including dealing with other projects and the intricate preparation for painting the Skyline. A detailed description of the bodywork challenges, especially a damaged door, sets the stage for the primer application. A side story introduces Mac's project, a Honda Integra GSI, showcasing the shop's capabilities in custom paint jobs. Transcripts
it's been months since the last update
on the barnfind R32 Skyline sounds like
a tractor but it
runs the skyline we bought had been left
abandoned it had been sitting for years
and the previous owner never managed to
get it running but after refreshing the
entire fuel system and fixing the
alternator wiring we managed to start it
for the very first
time we also made a stting the Bodywork
but after some failed attempts I had to
send it off to a body
shop
and it still looks like
this and today we're finally going to
see the progress that's been made and
let's go check out the skyline I'm very
excited all right so there's a few
things that we need to drop off to the
paint shop in order to finish the car I
found this wing on Facebook Marketplace
really cheap actually bought it from a
subscriber and we also have some other
parts laying around the garage which
I'll get in a second but let's quickly
load this up it's a bit tricky getting
around the garage now with two cars in
here but we also have some Facebook
Marketplace Corner lights and
unfortunately it's really difficult to
find a genuine set so I found an
aftermarket set and they're not in the
best shape so we're just going to have
these temporarily to make the car look
somewhat complete when it's been painted
but for now these will do the job we
loaded up the wing and the tail lights
into the Camry and headed to the
skylines location the car was located at
our friend shop Royal drip works all
right guys we are almost there we're
about 10 minutes away I'm very nervous I
haven't seen this car since you guys
have seen it back in like the start of
November it's been that long since I've
had a look at it I don't know what to
expect I know that there's been a lot of
work done uh but I I'm eager to get the
car back as soon as possible it was now
time to see the skyline after not seeing
it for 2
months hey what's going
on see you how you been goodself good
man how are youing good here's the skull
on a
[Music]
this
[Music]
yeah so you can see the two rear
quarters been um obviously a lot of
hours have gone into it to get them get
them right also put a couple hours in
the roof we still got a lot more work to
do on that yeah we got your kitten yeah
it's got the side skirts um the rear
pods and then this surprised me a lot
but the front lid is pretty damn
aggressive look at this
yeah we got an aggressive front liop on
this thing after not seeing the car for
this long I was kind of speechless
knowing that this was actually my R32
Skyline being repaired and painted and
yes we also got a brand new body kit
with gtst typm s skirts and a GTR front
lip which looks insane however there was
still one problem I needed to ask Leen
about the roof as you guys may remember
from the previous videos we
unfortunately found out that the Skyland
had been picked up by the roof with a
forklift and in the last video we test
fitted the wind screen and we found out
there was about a 2-in gap between the
wind screen and the body of the car if
Royal drip Works was not able to fix
this then we were going to have to
rethink this project how'd you guys go
with the roof and all that obviously a
lot of hours have gone into it pulled it
down a fair bit had to tap the center um
cuz it was bed a fair bit it was lifted
on the two sides dropped on the center
yeah so as you can see it's a little bit
more level now Center is almost there
but it's more working on the outside
probably more stresses taken on the
passenger side than the driver's side so
we're not far off if you guys don't
remember the roof was about this far off
when we test fitted the wind screen so
this was our problem our biggest problem
when we bought the car having the roof
like really flared up as the car had
been lifted by a forklift it's very
understandable that this has taken a
while to get even the roof looking as
good as this have a have a good look at
that it's looking much better but it was
it was pretty bad before so yeah that
looks much better than when I had to go
sanding and pulling at it it was the it
was the body line that that took the
most amount of time to get the body line
back to where it should be that's
actually lines up really well there with
the door so yeah I I don't even know how
you do that I I spent probably a few
days doing it and I was like y I'm I'm
done I'm just going to hand it off to a
paint shop and luckily I got in contact
with leand so yeah that's sick now
because this car is so old and sought
after it is really difficult to find
even aftermarket parts for it so the Sid
skirt front lip and rear pods were all
sourced through Leen at Auto Indulgence
and if you need any body kit parts for
any of your cars please hit him up I
would not have been able to get this
body kit this quickly and this cheap if
it wasn't for him I used to work with a
lot of importers who used to bring in
these cars and it's been hard to get
these bits and pieces together but then
I spoke to one of my old old suppliers I
said you know any chance you got one of
these line around and lucky enough he
did hopefully won't be too much longer
um as you can see most of the around the
car there's not much more work required
on that all right so we didn't come here
just to check out the car we came here
also to drop off some parts so we of
course have that wing and those side
markers it's raining bro what the quick
quick as yeah oh yeah the indicators
yeah yeah all right guys before we go
and give you another update on the car
we're going to be coming back here
watching Mac do more work in the car go
check out bp.com we have some new
t-shirts in stock right now really Slim
Fit and we've got a new design and acid
wash finish so yeah go check it out
bp.com appreciate your

support now guys I know what you're
thinking the progress on the 32 Skyline
does not look like a a lot it looks like
they've just put the body kit on there
and buged up the panels but you see
they've been working really hard on
other cars that have been in the shop
they needed to clear that out and now
they have time to focus fully on the R32
we're going to go check it out again
hopefully yeah we're getting the car
back very soon I'm excited let's go have
a look let's go have a look now as you
guys know before we dropped off the car
for paint the motor was making a very
odd noise so just to be safe I headed to
my local autobind and picked up some
10w40 oil so that we could top it up
while we were there and just make sure
that the engine is okay for now all
right guys so we are now back at Royal
drip Works Mac is in the background
don't show them just yet and they have
got the car in the paint booth and
they're just painting stuff up but I
just wanted to show you got the doors
sitting right here sanded down almost
ready for primer um there was a big
issue here where we had a massive Kink I
think someone tried to steal the car at
one point and they were prying it away
at the door handle and um it's caused a
massive Kink right there but Max says
that he can fix that up and here's the
big big reval good yeah the roof nice
and straight pretty nice how are the
hinges by the way do they fit well yeah
so um we didn't put the new ones on uh
yeah we tried to straighten out as much
as we could did it work yeah it was
actually pretty good came out pretty
flush yeah so I guess they just prepping
it right now for primer and that'll
allow them to like see all the
imperfections from all the setting and
all that that they've done is that right
does that usually how it is so you like
you sand down everything and yeah that's
it so after the primer state it's going
to go into the prepping stage and then
straight for paint yeah then I see the
imperfection and sand it again and then
paint it that's the
process so Mac is now showing us his
little beast over here in the corner
it's a Honda Integra GSI nothing special
at the moment the only thing that's
special about this thing I guess is that
this was like your first project yeah
yeah my first car the valve car is just
showing us now he can do this as well
which is pretty cool like a color
changing what do you call it uh it's
like a a color shift from DNA paints so
basically they got heaps of different
colors so this one is like a goes from
like a green to like a purple and we we
also do like uh if you want like all the
writing in gold or even machine finish
as well oh yeah you can oh bro the
camera really gets that really yeah dude
crazy man that's insane dude we might be
coming back for a custom valve cover
paint job dude after countless hours
trying to get the skyline started for
the first time driving it for the first
time bro this is crazy an attempting
Bodywork for the first
time it is crazy to think that the
cheapest R32 in the country might
actually turn out not bad the fellas at
roll drip Works reckon they'll finish
the car very soon it was actually being
put in primer but I had to leave before
they did that and if all goes to plan we
should have the car back around in 2
weeks and guys the build doesn't stop
there the car is still missing an entire
interior there's still some undisclosed
damage underneath the car and every
single susp suspension arm needs
attention every bushing is blown thank
you to Leen and Max so far for their
work hopefully we get the skyline back
soon so I guess we'll be back here soon
to see the car primed and painted I
really appreciate all the help man
appreciate it thanks man and how do they
contact you if they want to get like
stuff painted so you can go on uh Royal
DP works on Instagram uh just shoot me a
message or I got my number on there and
the address as well you know anyone can
feel free to come down grab a code or
anything located danong as well so
Southeast side where all the good stuff
happens that's it that's
it at least it's still got the
headlights inside inside can just L get
a video of inside this is
crazy this is crazy he giving me
flashbacks last time we
that oh yeah this does not have a chance
guys this is for you if if it turns out
that the car is that the car is a piece
you guys get to experience it through me
but you just haven't had to sacrifice
the money so yeah we'll see how it goes
7 Grand man is it is it worth it
