in the syllabus you will be able to find
it and download it from campus
here are some suggestions for how you
can get ready for the class
time management refers to the way that
you organize and plan how long you spend
on specific activities there are fine
common tips suggested by various sources
regarding time management they are
prioritizing scheduling
keeping a to-do list delegating and
resting the first skill is prioritizing
you may have multiple events going on
concurrently and need to meet multiple
deadlines the priority should be given
to the task by its urgency and
significance
you may ask yourself the following
questions
if all tasks carry the same significance
the first question you ask is among all
tasks i need to finish
which one is most urgent
if all tasks vary in significance then
ask yourself which one is most important
there are times you are under a lot of
stress you may need to ask yourself what
is something that i really need to
finish
here i would like to offer my two cents
when you are overwhelmed with the amount
of work you need to finish
whether your work school or family you
may have to consider all three questions
and socially referencing people who are
involved
for example are some of the deadline
negotiable
do some of the tasks require more time
to complete next is scheduling
scheduling and priority are interrelated
once you prioritize your tasks you may
develop a schedule and work towards the
deadlines the third item of the time
management is keeping a to-do list
i personally enjoy planning and checking
off items from the list
the process gives me a sense of
accomplishment
once you prioritize schedule you will
develop a to-do list the to-do list can
be developed in the form of a calendar
or just a simple list whichever works
for you delegating will be necessary
when it comes to a group project you and
your group members should discuss what
should be done for the project
after you develop a list of tasks you
should delegate them to group members
when it comes to a group project in
order to achieve the best outcome i
suggest that you should find the right
person for the right job the key here is
not to superficially divide up work
among your group members finally is
resting you have to keep a good balance
between work and leisure
physical health mental health and your
family are more important than anything
else
if something comes up that needs your
attention and takes away your time
please communicate with me
to find the solutions here are a few
tips identify what time of the day you
usually work most effectively
the peak time should be dedicated to the
work that requires the most brain power
solve the problem right away do not wait
after completion of work reward yourself
just to quickly sum up what you will see
on canvas click on the syllabus you will
find all details related to what we just
covered for syllabus
at the bottom of the syllabus you should
be able to see the summary of all
assignments
some requires you to complete them
individually some are part of the group
projects let's have a canvas given your
hunt see if you can find the answers for
the following questions for each
question you may try to find out the
answer yourself before proceeding to the
next question
in that case you should pause the video
find answers then play the video again
for the next question here's the first
question
where can i find dr lowe's contact
information
the answer is on the top portion of the
syllabus besides you can always contact
dr law at yl02 at
calstatela.edu where can i sign up for a
group
find a sidebar that says people and
click on it
on the top left it says everyone and
groups
click on groups
select from topics
you may also click on each group to see
who is in that group
click on join for the group you choose
find those in green dots on the right
side of the row you will not be able to
join the group that is full it will be
locked
if you would like to change your group
after you joined one
you can do it by simply clicking switch
to
a green dots on the right side where the
initial join was found what are the
first few assignments that i should
complete there are many ways to find out
first you can go to the main page all
events have been organized by the time
sequence
you can click on the very first
assignment you see on the page or go to
the to-do list on your right you could
also go to the syllabus and find the
deadline at the bottom or find them on
calendar whichever works the best for
you adopt that approach how is my work
evaluated
except for quizzes that have specific
answer to each question you can always
find a grading rubric at the bottom of
each assignments
for example when you click on the
assignments read the prompts and tips
first if you scroll down to the bottom
of the page
you should be able to find the grading
rubric of the assignments
you may use it as a guide or checklist
to review your work before submission
how do i monitor my own progress in the
class you can always check your own
progress by clicking on the grades
the list will show you how many points
you have received for each assignment
that has been graded
it's a good idea to monitor your
progress from time to time
always inform dr lowe if you have any
question about your grades
here are some general rules
ways of communication
do's and don'ts there are three ways to
communicate with me
canvas email
university email and zoom meeting here's
the best way to communicate with me
you can always click on the icon inbox
and send me an email
alternatively you can email me through
calstla email
for the group projects we may utilize
zoom for a group meeting
zoom id is indicated when do you
communicate
before you see things coming when you
encounter issues and things are
happening and you cannot communicate at
the time please contact me when you are
able to
scenario number one
i was about to submit my quiz but my
laptop crashed
now the deadline has passed
in this case always screenshot or use
phone take a photo of your screen for
documentation email me your screenshots
and describe what happened right away
without this step i would not be able to
evaluate and consider the opportunity to
make up the test
scenario number two
i was about to submit my essay but the
system is down
in this case i will always suggest that
you copy and paste the prompt of each
written assignments to your local drive
before working
work on your written assignments with
word processing software to edit save
and spell check
after you complete your work you can
copy and paste it back to the submission
box on canvas
this way you can always have a backup
copy with you
if the system is down you can always
email your work to me right away
scenario number three i was not feeling
well or in an accident or with my sick
family member and cannot submit my work
on time
in this case please contact me whenever
possible to explain your situation so we
can work out a solution together
i have an important reminder for you
i'm usually flexible and accommodating
to students needs
if something comes up that prevents you
from submitting your work on time please
communicate with me
as an administrator of the course i can
monitor your activities on canvas so
please be sincere and honest
what do you communicate
you can explain briefly about what will
happen what is happening and what has
happened
and why you cannot make the deadline
discuss options alternatives and new
deadlines with me what should you say in
the email draft your email politely
address me as dr lo would be great
always specify who you are your name
what class section you are in
what it is about
what is your reason or purpose and what
you are trying to achieve what is your
intended outcome
use leather closing such as sincerely
regards or yours truly or yours
sincerely then add your name
when i email you back please reply and
acknowledge
what are the dues
everything such as quizzes weekly
assignments projects or paper requires
preparation
read the guideline of the assignments
ahead of time so you know what is
required
manage your time effectively know how to
estimate time spent
always complete your work ahead of time
so you can go back to review and revise
coordinate among group members and make
sure that everyone is on task
deadline among members
if it does not work out ask for help
and what are the don'ts
late work
simply say i'm confused
i would like you to explain what
specifically you are confused with
before the outcome is finalized
as for extension when there is no valid
reason or effective communication with
me before the grades are finalized or
before the deadline
blame others for the poor group work in
the end but did not do anything about it
during the semester such as informing me
this is the end of the orientation i
hope you will enjoy the class as much as
i do thank you
