and and that brings us to the last
lesson he is the acceptor of repentance
subhanahu wa'ta'ala
Allah subhanahu wa tala's attribute is
mentioned
as the great acceptor of repentance
Allah's attribute of includes two
aspects one Allah subhah wa ta'ala
pardons those who seek his his
forgiveness and then there's another
aspect Allah subh not only forgives but
Allah
subh rewards those who seek his
forgiveness by blessing them with more
favors and this is out of Allah's
kindness and generosity so Allah subhana
wa ta'ala is telling the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wasallam you think you
did not do your best you think you could
have done better you think you made
mistakes don't worry I am a just ask for
forgiveness and I will forgive you not
only that I am even willing to
convert all your bad Deeds to Good Deeds
as Allah
subh says
except for the one who makes Toba seeks
Allah's forgiveness and believes and
does Good Deeds for them I will exchange
their bad Deeds with good ones for Allah
subhah wa ta'ala is Al the all forgiving
and Al the most merciful the key lesson
here is that as things come to an end as
this school year ends we should become a
source of Hope instead of Despair for
our students Allah is giving us hope in
these verses the end of year is report
card time and we as teachers are usually
engaged in a lot of critique of our
students and their work give hope give
hope to our students by making sure we
are giving them constructive feedback be
kind in the way we give that feedback
our students must go home on the last
day of school school full of Hope and
this is even if they did not do so well
academically in our
class so what are some classroom
activities we can do to give
hope I may sound like a broken record
but once again tell stories tell stories
that give hope especially in times of
Doubt distress and failure Allah subhana
wa ta'ala tells us many stories in the
Quran that gives us hope the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wasallam would give
hope to his companions in the darkest of
moments so share stories of Hope with
our students for such stories will help
our students sort out their failures in
a constructive
way correct students skewed
perspectives correct their skewed
perspectives by having them make a list
of things that turned out better than
they expected have students list down
all the things that they thought they
would not be good good at right or not
do so well in then have them
evaluate each item on the list with
respect to how it turned out in the end
usually when students do this they find
that it wasn't so bad after all usually
things turn out much better than
expected if the student thinks that
things didn't turn out you know or
turned out so well or turned out wor
worse than expected then this will give
you an opportunity as a teacher to have
a discussion with them to further
deconstruct and help students see that
in a positive
light likewise make a list of impossible
things that became possible for example
perhaps students going into your math
class may have thought they would not be
able to learn division but now by the
end of the year they can divide even if
they're doing it with mistakes this
helps our students to see that learning
is not a Do or Die process it is not a
Do or Die process rather it is a gradual
learning process where one is you know
makes a lot of mistakes but one learns
from those mistakes and one is
eventually able to master new Knowledge
and Skills with trial and error and hard
work conduct a gallery walk have
students highlight all all the things
they have accomplished in your class and
have them display those accomplishments
on their desk or on a single slide in a
slide deck or a PowerPoint this will
force students to do two things one they
have to think critically because they
have they they would you know they they
would need to condense the whole year
into a single slide or the space on
their desk and that's quite difficult to
do right for the whole year here but
that will force them to think critically
second it will illustrate to them that
they have accomplished something right
because usually the students when ask uh
what happened today nothing what did you
learn nothing right so have them go
through this exercise so that they can
realize that they have learned a lot in
your
class have a Dua wall have students
write down one thing they want in life
out of your class and put it on the Dua
all and then have everyone make Dua
together for the items mentioned there
right and this will give hope to the
students survey students on main ideas
then plan extension activities doing so
will help students to practice on
Knowledge and Skills that they still
need to work on and close those gaps in
their
learning to summarize inah Nas Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala he teaches us to to
change our mindset from one of
exaltation to gratefulness from one of
arrogance boastfulness to one of
humbleness and from despair to one of
giving hope to others so all of these
are important mindsets to have as we
close off on this school year this
brings us back full circle the
relationship the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wasallam had with his companions
as described To Us by Allah subhana wa
ta'ala
[Music]
It Is by Allah's Grace that you were
gentle with them had you been harsh
hard-hearted they would have dispersed
from around you so pardon them ask
forgiveness for them and consult them in
the conduct of Affairs and when you make
a decision put your trust in Allah Allah
loves the trusting inshallah if we do
this our students will love us and we
will have a great sense of
accomplishment as the year ends which
will be a great source of happiness for
us and for our students I have prepared
a set of key questions that you can use
for self assessment to determine if you
have the mindsets we have discussed and
to check if you're ending the school
year on a positive note the questions
are available on the blog post at educat
muslims.com may Allah subhah wa ta'ala
guide us to end this school year on a
positive note I will leave you with a
very relevant Dua the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wasallam used to
make oh Allah make me patient and
grateful to you and make me look small
in my own eyes and great in the eyes of
