review this time around I'm bringing you

a little

comparison uh of uh well the the high

omga 5 EST anniversary edition with its

two previous um uh EST

implementations um I talked about

already the the EST in a in a somewhat

uh brief manner when I did the review

for uh the panon

voltage but I thought it would be

interesting to to make just a a more

detailed uh review just focusing on

these three IMS um and the the and the

and the evolution that they've suffered

and then just throw two other hybrids uh

just for for the sake of kind of you

guys also understanding where this

stands um so I've got the the tangu the

gate I've got there the vulnerable ej7 M

and then as I said I've got you the

original Mega 5

EST the mega 5

EST the second generation the Mark I and

then the mega 5 anniversary edition

which contrary to what um people uh a

lot of people have said it is slightly

different in its tuning compared to the

to the Mark I obviously when in the the

graph section I'll didn't show you these

differences but you know that's basic

basically it anyway um in terms of the

the box unboxing for the High Senior it

it basically the Box brings this inside

the the carrying case which is you know

a nice carrying case it brings some

decent tips it brings a nice cable

although I've actually swapped out the

cable um and I've opted for a cable uh

from ivp IQ which was custom made for my

uh 7th uh 7th anniversary uh Mega 5S um

it's a silverplated cable it's got some

nice accessories as you can see and the

I IM itself you know um as as can be

expected from IIA it's a really nice

high quality resin shell uh I'm using

some bgvp whiteboard tips on it uh it

fits flawlessly it's a nice and light I

am the only regret is I could have I

mean not that I don't like the way that

they they've done it it looks beautiful

you know but I regret not having done a

custom uh shell design on it because

I've seen some of the the custom shell

designs that have been chosen by people

that I have bought it and some of the

designs are absolutely you know

beautiful just just mind-blowing anyway

let's let's jump into this the original

Mega 5 EST uh its biggest problem was

really the price uh and why because it

was priced at a value which was superior

to the variations the moon drop

variations and Superior even to the ej07

m which I've got over there and that

in itself uh was

um a huge obstacle to overcome because I

mean it was and it is a nice it's nicely

built I mean again I um I chose it with

this face plate because um this was the

the standard design and at the time I

thought well let me have a look at how

it actually looks it doesn't look bad

but I would have preferred to have done

a different design internally you know

things are nicely sorted out it's it's

nice and clean everything you know it's

it's it's not a mess internally

obviously being a clear shell that has

to be uh something which is taken into

account and um if you guys recall I

remember mentioning that it sounded very

similar to the to the EJ o7m and it does

does it does have a lot of uh

similarities um ultimately the ejo 7M

has got just a little extra

base um and uh

maybe the The Miz just come across in a

more natural manner but the reality was

and is that the original EST is a very

good IM IM and it sounds very good the

obstacle was it's $600 plus dollars of

price even with a nice discount which I

was able to secure at the time uh it

still

was uh slightly more expensive than the

variations and the ej07 and obviously

people opted for those tools due to the

the I guess the the more solid

reputation that those Brands had um they

then subsequently uh last year came out

with the uh Mark I version

which used a slightly well same design

of the shell but slightly smaller shell

and the same still the same

configuration 1 plus 2 plus

two uh it seems that the dynamic

driver uh has been changed I can't

really ascertain or be sure about it but

it seems like it's been changed but what

they did change and improved

significantly was the tuning

um in that respect of improved

significantly uh I will you

know set the caveat that um in the uh

mids to Upper midst

transition um they did make the Mark I

version a little bit more

subdued um obviously with the advantage

that that brings which is you don't

notice that ba tamber uh which in all

honesty you didn't really notice in the

original

one but that I guess was in an attempt

to to make the overall sound of the EST

just sound just be more natural just be

more more coherent in how it all matches

up uh if in the original one you could

make

you know a a fairly solid argument that

there was a little bit of ability to

distinguish between the drivers not that

I thought it was anything offensive over

here there was that that was done in a

in a in a much nicer Manner and

um in the um in the this this newer

version um you know that U let's

say being more laidback

presentation um did maybe make it a

little bit less

genre uh

genre versatile um and I think the

biggest thing was it kind of made

technically the the mark to be a little

bit more more

um I wouldn't say inefficient because

you know the overall presentation is a

warm kind of the Sensation that you get

is like a kind of a warm mut short

presentation um while over there it was

just a slightly

brighter um way of doing things uh with

the um anniversary edition it's not so

much in the base that you see the

biggest difference to the mark 2 version

uh but it's in the way that that area

the uh uh that transition from the mids

to the upper mids how it here was a

little bit more subdued and here they've

they just brought it up slightly and so

you get this this the style of of of

tuning which we've been seeing lately

which has a a very nice solid subbase

focus with an excellent transition to

the mid base which has got plenty of of

impact to make things sound more than

engaging and and and and satisfying you

know so kick jumps come across properly

and then with that transition into the

mids you know vocals coming across once

again flawless

without having the dip that was more

noticeable on the female vocals day uh

in in the energy level than over here it

doesn't exist so the vocals above all

here have come up to a a more let's say

um

balanced presentation while over there

the female vocals would be the ones that

perhaps kind of sounded a little bit

more laidback at times and so it closed

down the the IM IM slightly um

in terms of tber and tonality I mean the

the mega 5 7th anniversary is for me the

best of the three um and I would say

probably I would consider the temp

interality of the original one actually

slightly superior to the Mark I version

but the tber tonality here is faultless

uh the way that the drivers are all

coherently matched again faultless

there's nothing really that I can fault

uh it's been truly truly well done and

you know the truth is this the the the

mega 5 EST the anniversary edition has

brought the performance of the the or or

has taken the performance of the of the

of the five EST to a level where it

starts rivaling way more expensive IMS

in a very solid manner couple to the

fact that in terms of price they have

now brought it to a value which is

substantially more comp If this just

over $500 you know you we now don't

suffer the issue that we suffered in the

previous two versions where it was an

over $600 I um so you are obviously are

going to expect you know certain things

but it's also brought it

down um to to a level uh like I just

mentioned that it it Rivals the

established trids like the case of the

ej7 in a in a very solid manner uh and

even the the the newer uh trids that

have been coming out uh and and puts it

in you know in in like a it's an I that

definitely makes sense let let's let's

let me just cut to the Chase and be

straight to the point it is definitely

one of the better tribs out there and to

start finding something that can

truly um you know be be better or make

sense over this you have to go into

something like the voltage

from penon I haven't got any of the

theori of Monarch so I can't compare it

to the to the Monarch but I I will and I

am trying to get my hands on a Mark

I but the reality is this uh you know in

terms of performance it's it's uh very

much

um taking things to a level where for

you to find something which is

substantially Superior you're going to

have to

spend quite a lot more money um I could

have brought out here a number of other

IM to to to to have compared with dt500

DT 900 uh know the Moonlight Ultra I

could have brought quite I've could have

gotten quite a few other um

trids but uh you know I I didn't want to

do it first of all because I wanted to

kind of just set this comparison between

the three High years uh and then just

have those two for like a a slight

reference but the reality is this the

the the seventh anniversary is

definitely definitely trading blows with

IMS which are substantially more

expensive so compared to its two

previous uh versions it is a better IM

uh not only is it cheaper but it is

better sonically in everywhere okay I

would say between the other twos the one

that probably will come out a second

will probably be actually the

original uh only because only because it

doesn't sound so restrained in the upper

mids you know so the female vocals so

don't St don't sound so laidback as they

do on the Mark I but the the reality is

that these two are very close to each

other there's not a big difference as

compared now the the EST uh 7th

anniversary with the likes of the the

gate or the the EJ compared to the gate

the gate is I think I'm probably one of

the very few people that actually did

appreciate the gate and I think the gate

yes it is a little bit lean on the mid

base I'm not going to deny it but its

overall presentation is a is a is a a

very nice neutral presentation it's not

offensive it doesn't it doesn't um you

know it's a nicely done tribrid I think

it's biggest problem um and I somehow

they they try to mitigate that with a

really nice accessories package nice

case nice cable excellent build quality

the the CNC Machining on this shell is

is something that really needs to be

seen to be truly appreciated I think

that the the you know they did a lot to

try and mitigate the price difference

because this is over $600 but when you

take the the

gate and you compare it with the the the

five EST the 7th

anniversary I'm I'm I'm

very confident that 99% of people will

like the the the high more because it is

just got what is lacking here which is

that extra mid base and that overall um

very polished very elegantly done uh

mids and to treble performance it's just

done that much extra not it's it's it's

got that that step above and it's it

doesn't take much to to to um

to to pick up on that I mean you know

like I said you just have to go through

a few songs and immediately immediately

you you pick up on that so I mean uh let

me see here for you guys to have a a

better understanding of what I'm talking

about um the lady is not immun it's from

Jeff cascaro you know you listen to it

on here it sounds nice it sounds fine oh

mind you mind you before I carry on um I

did find a way to kind of make the the

game

have a little bit more mid-base and

that's using this 25 ohm impedence

adapter but even with this imp impedence

adapter which does substantially improve

the engagement of the of the gate it

still isn't enough to to uh kind of uh

do you know Dethrone the the the mega 5

EST 7th anniversary edition uh this is

still better so in a song like I was

saying the ladies are IM from Jeff

kascar or unconditional from from so

Persona or if I go to something like uh

Riviera from Bob you notice definitely

that uh you know the the the the the mid

base that this is capable of of

producing coupled with that that that

the really nice extension in terms of

subbase and then the transition to the

mids upper mids and treble which is

Flawless is just that extra more

polished than it is on the gate and and

I mean I don't mean this in a bad way on

the gate I've just mentioned it a few

minutes ago I I am sure that I'm one of

the very few people that really enjoyed

the gate and appreciated the gate for

what it is but I think that perhaps

tangu uh tried to go down the safe route

in terms of tuning um but they went a

little bit too safe perhaps perhaps if

they had included some tuning switches

you could have you know tried to get a

little bit more engagement there in

terms of the sound and like I said the

25 ohm impotus adapter did really

improve but this is this is just a

superior I am House of GrooVe from

Eugene Groove this just is it's just

more alive it's it's it's more

satisfying uh elephant from Carol dubar

another one again it's done flawlessly

if we go to something like let's

say uh the tracks of my tears from

Brenda Russell again beautiful execution

on on the 5st a piece of me from kace

Springs again flawless I mean the the

seventh anniversary just does it in a

very very nice manner so that c to the

fact that it's $100 cheaper than the

gate you know this is the IM am that in

my opinion would make the most sense in

choosing if I was going to choose

between one and the other compared to

the to the uh EJ o7m and and I mean this

again is one of those IMS that I think

has uh stood the test of time really

well it's it's only real U I guess not

it's not even a flaw but it's only real

thing worth mentioning was that the the

way that the ests have been done which

mind you is very very well done is um in

a form or in a manner which makes them

feel very um unpr presentent almost so

it's not it's almost like they don't

they're not there um but you know when

you start listening to it and you then

listen to other trids where the

execution of the ests has been done

differently you then stop to appreciate

uh how well the ests are actually

implemented here uh it is it's it's got

four Ys so it's got a little bit a few

more Dy it's got two two twice the Ys of

the of the of the 7th aniversary but the

way that they've like I said the way

that they've tuned them is very mellow

very relaxed so there's no no tonality

of no metallic tonality nothing they

just come across

absolutely sweet Suave like Al saying

and very elegant compared to um the

um mega 5

um

look I prefer I prefer the slightly more

uh energetic presentation here but I can

understand and I also enjoy very much

the laidback presentation of the ests

here because it it's it's very well

balanced and it just goes very well with

the rest of the execution um the subbase

I would say Ultimate Sub Bas probably

the ej7 just takes it a few more times

than does the the

EST mids um the mids on the EST for me

personally are just slightly super than

the uh ej7 M and then the highs it's

like I said um you know the execution

here on the on theia is faultless in my

opinion uh it's it's been very well done

and they've been able to strike a very

nice balance between that energy level

that they wanted to exist but not coming

across then with the with the

negativities of the tber or the tonality

of of the ests or that the planers or or

even B has have um so I would say um yes

this is um a overall better I am okay in

terms of the shell quality and so on

it's debatable I mean this is a full

metal shell the other one no it's a it's

a resin shell you know those there are

things there which can be debatable um

but uh you can you

know it's like it's not like you have an

ej7 now and now you must go get rid of

it and you must go get go fet in High

Senior no it's not like that this is

still a very solid Tri uh you know one

of those IMS that has been around for a

while and it's been well done that's the

reality I think although it's sing the

ej07 uh has gathered somewhat of a of a

cult following and and and I have had

the opportunity to listen to it I will

admit that I prefer this I think the

ej07 only really excels over this one in

terms of uh you know the Sound Stage

just being a little bit more holographic

that's all but overall I think the

engagement and the fun factor that the

ej7 offers is is uh makes it a more a

more sensible I am besides also being

cheaper but it just makes it a more

sensible I am um and the High Senior

takes very much that magic that you have

here on the on on the 07m and just

polishes up a few things here and there

um making it a a solid IM am I mean if

you were in the market for for for a for

a

tri and you were to choose between the

two you can't really go wrong with

either one of them that's the reality

but um um you know the high Senor will

probably be the wiser choice because of

the just ever so more elegant tuning in

in certain aspects and again you know

you notice this in certain songs uh let

me see analog from so Persona is a song

where you notice that the ej7 does it or

M does it beautifully but the the

seventh anniversary just just a little

extra you know um let me see another one

Sunrise from Larry Calton I prefer it on

the on on the 7th anniversary again uh

is your mind from Darius

um very equal not much there deeper from

pet Basco uh I like it there it's just

got that extra amount of u energy up top

which just gives a little bit slightly

more atmospheric feel over the 07m but

guys trust me the differences are really

really minimal I mean these are not huge

differences um and that's that guys I

mean there's really not much more that I

can say um part two I'll show you the

graphs um and and you to to wrap things

up what I can say is that the uh high

mega 5 EST is definitely the best of the

EST models that they've launched up to

date without question H you know the

fact that you can then still customize

in terms of its finish makes it again a

a you know a fantastic choice the price

is well priced for you know the $500

bracket there just

just

being surpassed slightly makes it a very

solid IM am um you know tuning fantastic

it follows this new tendency of tuning

that we've been seeing now some IMS

having um and that's that I mean there's

really not much more that I can say uh

just wanted to say that this particular

this

particular I am I got it directly from

um from um High Senior I brought

directly from them but uh it's uh also

available uh from highi go uh so you

know if you are perhaps interested have
