Transcripts
well once again to all the saints of God
good morning to everyone and my prayer
is that everybody's ready once again to
have another wonderful time in the
Sunday School lesson that is laid before
us and you all have applied yourself to
this particular lesson because if not
I'm going to tell you the importance of
what we call self-study as we get into
this but those words being said we ask
that we all may rise to our feet and
let's clear our minds and come together
as one as we pray to the father that the
spirit would give us some understanding
about this word that is laid before us
today so shall we pray father is once
again upon this hour and Upon This Day
Let each and every one of us come to you
now with a humble heart we come right
now as always uplifting you and giving
your name all the praise all the glory
and all the honor that only you and you
alone are worthy of we thank you dear
Lord for allow us to go from one Sabbath
yet to the next and we realize dear Lord
in between these days we did not arise
by our own power but was by your hand of
grace and mercy that was placed upon
each and every one of us and now dear
Lord as we come together once again
inside these walls to go over what thus
sayth this your word we ask as always
that the spirit would give us some
knowledge some understanding about it
that we may able to use it more in our
everyday lives but also may we share it
yet with others we thank you dear Lord
for those that are here and those that
are on their way and for those for
whatever reason could not be here today
we thankful dear Lord that you are an
omnr God that you are an all places yet
at all times for is that precious and
adorable name of our Lord and savior we
give this prayer for it's in Jesus name
we pray amen amen
amen well folks today as we all know we
are today I guess you could say halfway
through unit number one because as we
know unit number one was a lesson of 10
weeks dealing with the central subject
of Women of Faith and even though we are
halfway through these lessons Five
Lessons in some may think that we've
only covered how many women you think
Four Women
three some said two well see that what I
was looking for because often some said
three that what I was looking for
because often times when you find in
study you know we'll have the same
understanding but we may have a
different Outlook and this is where the
importance of self-study comes into play
because often times you will find there
are things that we may discuss there are
things that we may talk about but it's
not part of the printed text because you
have to read let's say the chapter
before the chapter after and then study
those things that are in between and
often times you'll find there's a lot
more there that meets the eyes
pertaining to the scriptures uh give you
example it's like I explain to you how I
study each and every week and when I
study each week typically I put in maybe
five to six hours of study each night
I'll study something and stop and study
something and study something else
different going from there and then come
Saturday it's time now BR to put it all
together and see how the spirit's going
to lead how I'm going to present this
thing and the tricky part is this you
may have 6 hours of study but you only
have 45 minute of presentation so what
is it that you bring up and this is why
I'll be in the garage or I'll be
downstairs I'm walking around like I'm
doing now you think I'm talking to
myself I'm going through the scriptures
I look at my watch move to next one you
kind of get things straight because you
know you can't present it all at one
time I even will come down to church and
do it and sometimes my sneaky partner
Lonzo was sneaking to church and say saw
you a whole time talking to
yourself cuz I'm now here going through
it okay I got five more minutes let me
cover the scripture and move to the next
one but it helps you in your studies to
go along and that applies even to the
day because in your self- studies it's
important the pastor always say study to
show thyself approved for workmen need
not to be ashamed rightly dividing the
word of Truth and when you look at these
scriptures you say well we only covered
maybe just two women but if you look at
it in your self studies you'll find that
we cover a lot more than that because
you look at the first lesson we dealt
with that of the creation of woman and
how God says she is fearfully and
wonderfully made and made them male and
female in whose image in His image when
you study that and go behind the scenes
you'll find he's talking about not one
woman but he's talking about all women
so the first lesson opened up was
talking about you guys remember we
talked about the expectation and
responsibility that God had placed upon
the women so the first lesson really
dealt with all women to set the stage
then we move from the lesson of speaking
of all women to the next lesson which
came out of the second book of the books
of history of the oracles which was the
Book of Judges during the time of Judges
we talked about there were how many
judges all
together 14 judges all together only 12
you'll find in judges the other two are
in Samuel but out of 14 judges of some
time span give or take 475 years only
one one was a woman that was placed in
this unique position position of
leadership and that of authority we know
she was a wife we know she was a judge
who led the military forces and also
handled some civil matters but she also
I like to part about she was a propheus
she was a woman who proclaimed what thus
sayeth the Lord so the first lesson we
dealt with all women the second lesson
we dealt with a woman by name of Deborah
then we move from that second book of
the book of History to the third book
which is the Book of Ruth and you'll
find in that particular lesson we talked
about a woman by the name of Naomi
there's a lot of things I could tell you
about Naomi a lot of things you can know
about Naomi by just reading it but we
didn't go into deep details because you
know
why time you can't cover all those
things but guess what in your self-
study you know these things the type of
woman that no Ami was that her daughters
in-laws truly admired her and that she
was a woman of God that she followed her
husband and believed in her husband and
so on from there but after dealing with
Naomi we dealt with another woman by the
name of rof who we also also we're
dealing with continually today and how
she was a faithful faithful
daughter-in-law to her mother-in-law
Naomi that she says that wherever you go
I'll go wherever you live I'm going to
live your people going to be my people
your God gonna be my God and where you
die and they bury you she said they
gonna bury me the same place other words
she was telling the mother Lord I'm
going be with you to the end so we
studied all women we talked about
Deborah we talked about Naomi we talked
about roof and in your self study
there's another woman that often time
gets a bad rap and that's one by name of
Ora we don't see much about her but I
always hear this doing a sermon that or
S her mother-in-law and left went back
to her people no she didn't if you look
at Ora she was just as devoted as Ruth
was in fact when their husbands died and
Naomi was going back to be in Bethlehem
she told both of them you need to go
back with your people there's nothing I
can do for you she said what old as I am
supposed to Remar and have kids you wait
for the kids to come in they get REM
married following me around no you're
young go back to your people and it said
they protested and they they said the
word they use was Entre they entreated
her to allow them to go for her she said
no you must stay here and it says they
wept bitterly all of them cried but in
the end Ora heed the words of her
mother-in-law and what she does she goes
back to be with her people that wasn't
forsaken her you can see that she was
devoted also so we dealt with all women
we dealt with Deborah we dealt with
Naomi we dealt with rof and we dealt
with orper so we've covered more than
just one or two three women this
particular quarter we deal with all
women but the lesson continues today and
my people that is the importance of
self- study there are a lot of things
that I can't bring up but in your
studies you already know them and
therefore too when I bring up some
things not in put text you can say I
know exactly way he's going with this
one because I've already studied it for
myself but as we continue today in our
lesson
our lesson today we still deal with Ruth
but I'm going see can you notice
something here the first lesson that
dealt with I think it said Ruth follows
Naomi that came out of chapter
one our next lesson dealing with Ruth de
with Ru meets Boaz right chapter number
two the lesson we have today deals with
I think is Ruth Mar's Boaz chapter
number four what's missing there
exactly chapter number three is missing
entirely it's entirely missing so it's
hard to say today's lesson then went
boys up to the gate what you mean then
went boys up to the gate so went on
before those right something went on but
something here you find is missing and
that is chapter three which sets the
stage for where it is that we are going
today so to understand this thing we
have to rehearse the matter I'm not say
all over again but go through these
first first two lessons leading up to
chapter 3 which brings us today lesson
but regardless if we get through all the
scriptures today you'll have an
understanding what the Book of Ruth
truly is all about because to go back
over some things in chapter one we dealt
with Ruth follows Naomi and as we all
remember and all this plays into the
lesson that's comeing before us as you
all remember there was a certain Man by
the name of
amalec amalec was whose
husband I'm going see how much you
remember remember in these three lessons
we covering AMC was whose
husband deal in the Book of Ruth Naomi's
husband AMAC was Naomi's husband they
were from a town of Bethlehem and you
remember something tragic happened in
the town remember there was a famine
this famine came about so therefore
amalec the patriarch of the family made
the decision to move his family from
Bethlehem to go across the Dead Sea or
the salt sea to another territory
anybody remember what that territory was
it's very important because that's what
Ruth was to Moab he goes now to the town
or territory of Moab to Soldier there
now you say soldiering was very
important what did that
meant exactly they went there because a
family they came about they were going
there
temporarily but a short period later the
word says they continue there which
meant they started to stay there but as
they were there in this territory of
Moab
it says that amalec the patriarch of the
family he dies which is a tragic blow to
lose anybody from this family especially
now the patriarch because as we said
earlier when it came to man God had
certain expectations remember that and
certain responsibilities placed upon him
and the man was the provider of the
family the man was the caretaker of the
family the man was protector of the
family I mean he did everything for the
family loved them cherished them and so
on but yet now he has died which US puts
her wife in a dire situation she's still
in a you could say a dire situation cuz
she's lost her loved one but she has
heirs and the airs was their sons to
take care of the mother you had one son
by the name of Milan and the other one
was that of tillon and they now have
expectation and responsibilities placed
upon them and that is to take care of
their mother but while they are there in
Moab you find they marry two moabite
women L who is the elder marries a
moabit by a woman name of Ruth then
you'll find the younger son chilion
marries a moite Woman by the name of
orah not Oprah Ora you know Oprah win
would tell yourself that what her name
was supposed to be I watched what she
said they spelled it wrong in the birth
certificate so they always went with
with Oprah itself but you'll find now
but they married these women and
according to scriptures they stayed
there about 10 years and in that that
time span unfortunately Milan and chilon
die also so now
Naomi Ruth and Ora they are now widows
and they have no man to provide for them
no man to take care of them at this time
here's where Naomi learns she said the
Lord has visited my people other words
the famine now is over so now she says
it's time for me to pack up and go back
home time for me to go back now to
Bethlehem and when she decides to do
this her
daughter-in-laws Ruth and Ora said oh
we're going with you Naomi protested and
said no no no no no what you need to do
is now you're young ladies go back to
your people marry have families live
your life I'm an old lady I've had my
time she said I am too old to get
remarried but they said we still want to
come and be with you she said what I'm
going to do get married have kids and
you can wait for those boys that grow up
to be men then you're going to marry
them she said you wasting your lives go
back it said they cried all of them
bitterly together they did not want to
go but in the end Ora decides to heed
her words she goes back to Moab whereas
Ruth says those words we already gave
wherever you go I'm going to go wherever
you live I'm going to live your people
shall be my people and your God shall be
my God and where they bury you they're G
to also bury me she was saying to her
mother-in-law oh I'm going to be there
with you all the way up to death so I'm
not going to leave you it says noomi
knowing that she can't change her mind
says let's go so they leave there and
now they're going back to Bethlehem and
they go back it says during the time of
the Harvest other words they're going at
the right time now as they come back to
Bethlehem the people there see Naomi
they say is that not Naomi now she's
been gone for a while but we can see
they haven't forgotten her because they
knew you that's Naomi and she says don't
call me Naomi she says the Lord has has
dealt bitterly with me she said I left
here full but I've come back empty what
she was speaking of she left there with
her family but she came back now as far
as her husband and children they are now
gone she says call me Mara which is a
word we use today or name you today I
don't think nobody has that name in this
morning it really we call it Mary which
means bitter it means sadness it means
hardships and so on there so she wanted
to be called that but as she comes back
now
this is where Ruth now provide herself
Ruth tells her where can she go to glean
to glean basically means you go into the
fields and you gather up food and stuffs
and so on so she tells her now that she
can go glean because in their laws they
had laws that stated uh to take care of
the strangers and the widows that all
the corners of the field they were not
to harvest you to leave those for the
poor the unfortunate and that for the
widows so she goes now to glean and as
she is gleaning in this field you'll
find there's a man that comes along by
the name of Boaz now Boaz is a relative
of Naomi it was a relative of her
husband which makes her relative Naomi
because when they married your all
family after that but there was a
relative of theirs he was a man who had
wealth and had servant and so on she was
in his field and he had heard some
things about her but at this point he
didn't know who she was we can see that
as we lead the scripture he said who is
this woman out here in the fields you
know she caught his eye and they said oh
that's Naomi I I'm sorry they said
that's Ruth the moabit notice in
scripture they always call Ruth a moabit
she was not of the nation of Israel
which plays an important part as I'm
gonna sum this thing up in the end but
they said that's Ruth the moabit who was
with Naomi and she has now come back and
he had heard all about what she had did
for mother-in-law so he goes to her Boaz
to um rof and tells her don't go to nor
Fields stay in this field glean get as
much as you like in fact when you are
thirsty go ahead and drink from the
water that men have drawn and he says to
the men as you're Gathering up the
crops this was not part of the law but
shows how he favored her he said throw a
little bit on the ground other words
leave it behind so she can get even more
than she had before so he does these
things and she says to him why is it
that thou has shown me favor and he says
because I have heard about what you did
for your mother-in-law and how you cared
for her and cared for her sons all the
way up to death and so on there so he
had great respect for her character and
the way in which she carried herself
then she goes back home with almost a
bushel of wheat whatever they use out
there and she shows it to Naomi and she
said this is what I have gathered here
upon this day that pretty much ended
that lesson but now we joke to then Boaz
went up to the
gate you see how we can't just jump into
that the writer has skipped over the
entire third chapter and jumped into
chapter number four but here's what I've
always said about the presentation of
the lesson he does that for a reason you
want to know why it's the same reason as
me standing before you teaching I can't
cover all this in an hour he relies upon
the student to do some self-study to
know what's going on for yourself to go
right into this lesson that is before us
so what we have to do now is cover some
of chapter 3 to bring us to where we are
now I'm going to summarize it okay now
things I'm saying it ain't totally
scripture but it's what the scripture is
saying so the words I may use they
didn't put that in the Bible well they
didn't put in the Bible but we can say
it today because that's what he's
speaking of Naomi now tells Ruth these
words you know she said now it's com to
a time where it's time you get your own
life basically what she was saying she
said I appreciate I love that you had
been here for me have provided for me
and been my companion and so on that but
you're young you need to have your own
life you need to get married and go on
from there you need to find somebody to
be with all the words it's now time for
you to leave the nest almost like she
was a child she says the field that you
have been gleaning in this man is a
relative of
ours he has wealth she said he has
property he has workers and so on and he
has shown you favor she said tonight
he's going to be at the wine press at
the thrashing floor getting weak and all
prepared she says when he eats and
finish drinking goes as sleep here's
what you going to do see Naomi here
she's old school okay she knows
something about getting a
man you know so she gonna teach this
young girl something about getting a man
okay now we said last week when Naomi
said those when Ruth said those words
why have I found faith in that sight the
question I put forth I said what is one
of the things that caus a man to notice
a woman cuz she asked him what has you
have done what have I done for you to
notice me of course he spoke about her
character and care of mother law but we
said what is it that we notice about a
woman what caus us to notice and guess
what lzo whim Wallace and whoever else
in none of y'all men said a word y'all
was scared to death say
anything some ask that question again
what's one of the things that caus a man
to notice a
woman you got that right it's what you
see that catches the eye and you'll find
out about uh rof here in Scripture she's
a young lady you can see that Boaz is a
lot older than she is it seems to be at
this point Boaz she's noticer but he's
just being kind to her watching because
he's knows her character meaning and
what she brings to the table oh but
Naomi knows something Naomi say here you
going to do read chapter three and tell
me if I'm got this thing off but she
tells her you go ahead and bathe
yourself you put a little lotion on your
body she said put a little alment behind
your ears put a nice dress on she said
get your Shaw and you go to where he's
at when you see him get in that bed now
don't don't lose it this get in the bed
now she said when he get in that bed and
he goes to sleep you lay at his feet
uncover his feet cover yourself back and
just lay right there and you don't have
to say a word and it says guess what she
does this she's followed her
mother-in-law instructions and when she
does this you'll find later that night
it says that one script say Boaz was
afraid which means he was startled and
guess what I guess anybody would be you
go to bed by yourself at night all
sudden you feel something touching you
in the middle of the night oh you going
to jump it say he was startled and he
jumped and he said who is that and she
said it is Ruth thy servant and she says
a few words to him she says take thy
covering or she called the skirt and
cover me back up and he said all that
thou ask I will do for thee you have
been kinder to me than at at the first
and I know of your character and so on
he goes from there and basically was
saying that I will marry you see it's
it's a strange for us to see but what
that symbolism meant was that when she
said cover me back up she's asked for
his protection she's said that I will be
with you I'm your servant so basically
you could kind of turn around a little
bit she was almost making a proposal to
him for marriage but what she was doing
was letting him know that if he liked
she would marry him and he basically
agreed that he would marry her but there
was an issue here this man was a
God-fearing man now I don't I'm not
going to talk about boy assz I said last
I'm not talking about Boaz remember that
and why did I say I wasn't talking about
Boaz H it's all about the women you want
to know something about the man Boaz
it's called self-study study for
yourself you see what kind of man he was
but he was a goding man and he knew that
there were laws put into place he could
marry and keep the family going on but
there were some legal things had to be
settled first in other words I'm going
get to it and read some some of the
scripture but basically the Nicks of Ken
had to First write first to step up to
do what was the expectation and their
responsibility so he said I got to
follow through with this but he desired
to marry me I going do this thing the
right way so when the morning came just
for the morning came he told her rise up
and leave and go back home he said
because she knew she was a virtuous
woman a woman that people respect and
admire and there going to be a problem
[Music]
here if that morning come up and they
see her leav in his house y'all know how
we are drive by somebody house somebody
else cars parked in the morning you go
oh must have stayed there all night and
then there's going to be talk right so
he tells her leave because he respected
her but he said oh before you go give me
your Shaw she gives him his her Shaw and
he puts a lot of food in it said take
this back with you to Naomi because you
know why she cares and she carries it
back to Naomi and when she gives it to
Naomi she tells her all that had
happened Naomi basically tells us this
guess what you just stay right here
don't say a word don't go no further
even soon this man because guess what
he's not going to stop until he has you
so all you got to do now just sit and
wait and guess what it says then then
went Boaz up to the gate that's all that
happened in chapter number three the
stage is set he now desires to marry
this woman but remember there's some
legal obligation behind us but as we
move to our lesson of ruths chapter 4
the very first verse it says then went
Boaz up to the gate now they're back in
in Bethlehem and he goes to the gate
now the purpose in going to gate you
could say probably was
twofold one of the purpose was going to
the gate was
that all legal transactions took place
usually at the gate other words you were
handle any matter you go to the opening
of the city and there you set and you
take care of your matters cuz see
they're not like today today you want to
take care of some legal things you go to
a lawyer's office you go to the
government building or whatever it may
be they didn't have any of that you
would always meet somewhere to carry out
things and the ideal place was at the
city Gates itself and also the purpose
for going to the city gate is that this
man he's looking for this relative or if
I'm going to see him he's coming into
the city or the village he has to come
through what he has to come through the
gate it's not like it's like you if
you're going to let's say try to meet
somebody you don't go stand at the back
window waiting for him you wait at the
gate he said he got to come through his
way so I'm going to wait right here for
him to come and proba was an early
morning cuzz I like how n me says oh
he's not going to rest until he get this
matter settled and the next thing we
hear the next day guess what he's at
he's at the city gate waiting it says
then when Boaz up to the gate and set
him down there and behold the Kinsmen of
whom Boaz spake came by now we have a
Kinsman and sometimes in the Bible we'll
find we'll have people names and so on
from there at this point this name is
not important um all names are important
as we'll see later dealing with the
family structure but at this time it's
just the fact that we know that this man
is a Kinsman because the law state a
Kinsman has to come forth to be the
Redeemer of the land and that of the
widows and so on even though it was two
separate laws here they were combined as
one so it's it's a real tricky matter
that he's dealing with legal wise I'm
going to cover some of that when we get
to it but here you'll find that this
Kinsman now comes up who Bo spake unto
him he said ho such a one turn aside sit
down here and he turned aside and sat
down
pretty
self-explanatory he's sitting at The
City Gate he's waiting for this man to
come and when this man comes he says
hold he said turn aside he said can you
sit here and have a word with you what
he was saying was hold up hold up hold
up hold up hold up you know wait one
moment you know it basically saying that
just the man I'm looking for because
when he says he word he says hold such a
one turn aside sit down here and he
turned aside and sat down when he came
through the door he said whoa whoa whoa
just a man I wanted to see so you can
minute can you just sit down we to have
a conversation that's what he's speaking
of you know we've done it before you
think about in the days term you gonna
buy something but yet somebody else has
another opportunity before you do but
you want to buy it and you say well I
want to buy this thing but has to go
through him first and here come Carol I
see him oh just the man I want to see
let me talk to you right quick see it's
a business transaction remember just a
legal matter that taks in place and this
is the man he wanted to see but he has
things set up here because now has he
has this Kinsman there then it says in
verse two and he took 10 men of the
Elders of the city and said sit you down
here and they sat down 10 men of the
elders often time we speak of Elders we
say Elders is a leader of a tribe leader
of the family leader in the community
and so on i' like to sum it all up this
way they are the people that the people
hold with the greatest of respect they
are the elders they are the ones they
can believe in they can follow you know
that they can believe Le their word
because this transaction is different
from the way we do transactions today
their transaction was based upon
typically your word but also you had to
have
witnesses witnesses to give Clarity on
what was done now we know according to
scripture how many wites you basically
need or or the
least at least two how many do this man
bring 10 oh he making sure this deal is
set he Saidi don't need one I don't need
two I got 10 not just
Witnesses Elders the most respected
people in the community to be a part of
this legal business transaction that is
about to take place and he took the 10
men of the Elders of city and said sit
ye down here and they sat down and he
said unto the Kinsmen Naomi that is come
again out of the country of Moab so
let's know Naomi in case you don't know
who Naomi is she's the one that came
back from the country of Moab he's let
to know that as we get a little further
this is AMC's wife other words there's a
legal binding obligation here remember
the husband has died Naomi now has
possession of
[Music]
what of what y'all looking nervous with
it what's your possession of of the land
it's hers it is her actual land but the
problem here is this what she going to
do with it
she can't work it men have to work it
some well she can get workers and and
work the farm and so there in today's
world she probably could CU she can go
get a loan and she can pay the workers
they harvest the crops plant the food
and she can proc from there but at this
point how she gonna pay him try to for
example say guess what I got some land I
want y'all to work it plant it they took
us a long time be months for the crops
come up and when the crops come up I'm
going sell them then I'm going to pay
you they said no I got another job to do
I need to be paid today I'm not waiting
six months down the road to receive any
money for it and that was the situation
that she was in cuz she could not work
it for herself so this land this has
value but really not much she can do
with it and then there were certain
other things with the men holding what
the women down that they couldn't
Prosper as the male would but here
you'll find it says and he took 10 of
the men 10 of the men of the Elders of
the city and said sit ye down here and
they sat down and he said unto the
Kinsmen Nam Naomi that is come again out
of the country of Moab sth a parcel of
land which was our brother
AMCs you get that connection there AMC
was what the brother if you're a brother
in the family you're what part of the
family so let know this man is part of
our family also was letting them know
that being part of the family in nation
of Israel they had laws that were put in
place to protect widows they had laws
also to protect land ownings and things
of that nature
and that only applied to the people who
are part of the nation of Israel who
they consider their brothers and their
sisters AMC guess what he is one of our
brothers he says and I thought to
advertise the saying now that's a
strange word to see here in a 1611 King
James
writing he says here and I thought to
advertise thee what does it mean to
advertise that means publish it anything
else we can add to that
[Music]
make it
known anybody else because you you're
100% correct when you advertise
something you want to make it known you
want to make people aware you want to
tell them about what is going on and
what is about to transpire so other
words he says I want to make this thing
known to you because there something
that you may not know that this is a POS
of land that Naomi had but she had went
to Moab and guess what she was the wife
of our brother AMC and it was very
important for the Jewish culture for
name not to be lost not to be wiped out
of History this is why they had this
this law put in place we'll get into it
and says here I thought to advertise
thee saying buy it before the
inhabitants and before the Elders of my
people now see what he's saying here he
said byy this land right before
who the elders and the people why once
again before all these
people don't be a witness witnessing is
very important here they didn't have it
you buy a piece of land today how many
times you got to sign your name on a DED
line too many times you got to go before
a lawyer somebody got to notorized go
through all this stuff they don't have
any of that they just go through
Witnesses and when you give witness you
also give what we call starer
T what's that called t
s t testimony when you give wit you're
always giving testimony in court they
say bring forth your testimony here
comes the what witness to give testimony
you know we Jed about just a few weeks
ago you want to go to a courtroom and
you're saying what happened as a witness
and you said well I was talking to Lonzo
and Lonzo told me all about this thing
and then him and Anthony had a
conversation about it but Anthony didn't
know quite everything that need to be
done so he said Bush knew something
about it too when he got to Carol Carol
like yeah but I don't really want to
comment on it but really know the truth
I got it from Wallace and I'm going tell
the court well this is what happened the
J said you don't get out here with that
foolishness because he want to hear what
your testimony your witness so once
again here he has all these witness he s
there by this land and he he gives
Clarity in front of all these people
other words they're going to be the
witness here he said if thou will redeem
it redeem it other words you're going to
buy it buy it but that redeem goes a
little bit further too here I'm going
read in a second he said but if thou
would not redeem it then tell me other
words if you're going to buy it just go
ahead and buy it but if you're not going
to buy it tell me today so I know what
it is that I have to do he said that I
may know for there is none to redeem it
beside thee and I am after thee and he
said these words I'll buy it so he's let
them know all think about it is he
hiding anything he got all the witnesses
you know this tells about Boaz his
character he following God's law even
though he wants who he wants rof he
don't really care for the land but legal
matters land is part of the obligation
too but I'll cover that in a second but
he now goes through all the legal
obligations but he tells a man that if
you're going to buy buy if you're not
let me know but just so you know you are
the one that's put in this place of the
expectation responsibility of redeeming
the land you have guess what first right
to it and the man says I'm going to buy
now why you think this man want to buy
this
land why would anybody buy land
yeah Financial lands an investment
unless you put in your nuclear plant you
know but lands of Great Value this man's
a business man sure I'll buy the land it
said yeah I will take it off your hand
so he accepts
it but that word butt comes in there now
it's time for the rest of the story
because he has a right to Red deem it
because if you go back let me read the
law too in the in levitical law there
were many laws put in place but I'm
going to summarize this one for you
after I read it what it says here in
Leviticus
25:23 the land shall not be sold forever
for the land is mine for you are
strangers and Soldiers with me God said
when you sell the land it's not going to
be sold forever because you only here
temporarily but this thing called The
Year of Jubilee comes all land is given
back to you other words people are
always put in a position where everybody
was on equal plane now somebody could
Prosper for a certain number of years
but in the end the land's going to come
back back to the family it stays in the
family until that point this is why he
said the land shall not be sold forever
for the land is mine for you are
strangers and Soldiers with me and in
all the land of your possession ye shall
Grant a Redemption for the land that
speaks of the Redeemer he said If thy
brother be waxed poor and have sold away
some of his possession and if any of his
kins come to redeem it then shall he
redeem that which his brother sold and
if the man have none to redeem it and
himself be able to redeem it then let
him count the years of the sale thereof
and restore the overplus unto the man to
whom he sold it that he may return unto
him his possessions but if he be not
able to restore to him then that which
is sold shall remain in the hand of him
that have bought it until the Year of
Jubilee and in the Jubilee it shall not
go out and he shall return unto his
possession and if a man is dwelling in a
house outside the city um a wall City
then he may redeem within a whole year
after sold and it shall be within a full
year he may redeem it and it goes on
there what that deals with is this you
got a paral land you want to sell you
can sell it or if you don't for
financial reason you're poor I got to
sell this land but remember God gave the
land to each one of the tribes each one
of the tribes had land so God say always
be yours always be possession but I'm
going through hardship I'm going to sell
mine okay you go ahead and sell it but
you can sell this land but in the Year
of Jubilee will come which was 50 years
later it would go back to whoever was
your air they receive the land and
everything starts all over again but in
the event that you hadn't paid the debt
off God said well we GNA what you call
it U I'm a prate this thing we're g to
add the years up so really you want to
set it for this much because I'm Not Gon
to pay full price for a land that in
seven years goes back to you he said
well tell you what we'll do we'll do it
this way and by selling you the land you
said was a waste no it's not because
guess what they raise crops they made
money off that land but in the end God
said I'm G give it back to my people
it's kind of like where our government
kicks against
um socialism it's all about God set
things up where everybody prospered
everybody did well if you became poor
because you to sell that land you won't
going to stay poor because the day was
coming when the land was coming back to
your family that was called a redeemer
so that was a law that was put in place
there but there's another part of a law
too that comes into place here it says
then said Boaz what
day thou buest the field of the hand of
Naomi thou must buy also of Ruth the
moabitas the wife of the Dead to raise
up the name of the Dead upon his
inheritance so he told him part A now
here what part B comes into place be due
to the fact that um amalec has died his
Heir Milan has died his Heir Chile has
died now whoever buys that land also has
to take on and marry the I guess Nick's
air the wife and raise up kidss here the
thing you raise that child up that child
be named after that person who died so
their name never would be wiped out of
History their name always reviv the
family would always Prosper on and when
let's said the mother died those
children then that land goes back to
them so this man is looking at it also
is wait a minute so you're tell to me in
the end I won't even keep this land it's
going back to the family after me buying
it plus I got a marit this war
and raise some
kids see it's a lot more to it now you
said now how did all that come to be
well that comes to be you'll find in the
law in Deuteronomy because
remember uh the book of Levi not all the
laws the book of the laws are Genesis ex
Leviticus Numbers in Deuteronomy in
Deuteronomy it says this in Deuteronomy
256 if Brethren dwell together and one
of them die and have no child the wife
of the Dead shall not marry without unto
a
stranger other words somebody in Israel
in the family stranger her husband's
brother shall go in unto her and take
her to him to wife and perform the duty
of a husband brother unto her remember
we talked in the very beginning there
are certain expectations and
responsibility God has placed upon us it
says and it shall be that the firstborn
which she Beed shall succeed in the name
of his brother which is dead that his
name be not put out of Israel and if the
man like not to take his brother's wife
then let his brother's wife go up to the
gate unto the elders and say my husband
brother refuses to raise up unto his
brothers a name in Israel and he would
not perform the duty of my husband
brother then the Elders of the city
shall call him and speak unto him and if
he stand to it and say I like not to
take her then shall his brother's wife
come unto him in the presence of all the
others and loose her shoe from off her
foot and spit in his face and shall
answer and say so shall it be done unto
the man that will not build up his
brother's house and his name shall be
called in Israel the house of him that
has his shoe loose so in other words it
was a disgrace it was an embarrassment
for you not perform your obligation as
that of a redeemer so here you'll find
that what tied this thing into it is you
have to buy the land but also the wife
comes along with it and he says at first
I will what redeem it and then it says
verse six and the Kinsman says I cannot
not redeem for myself lest I Mar my own
inheritance redeem that thou right to
thyself for I cannot redeem
it because now keep in mind it seems to
me he has a family and now this
inheritance is going to be tied in with
the her to go to his kids so he look at
this thing this might be a big mess here
so he decides to back out of it which
guess what he can do that because now
you have another Nix of kin or Kinsman
in that a boy has a step forward he said
now this was the manner in former time
in Israel concerning redeeming and
concerning changes for to confirm all
things a man plucked off his shoe and
gave it to his neighbor and this was a
testimony in Israel see I just read that
to you now the bad side of it is if they
took it off and spit in your face but
also was a side of sealing a deal you
know we talked about this before people
would seal deals remember they I don't
know why they God remember they spit in
the hand and then they Shake then
sometime they would prick the finger and
put the thumbs together or they do that
BR the pinky swear you know all the
pinkies you know it's a signed deal so
here you'll find that the signed deal
was you would take your shoe off and
give it to that person and that was
binding of a deal no why they pull the
shoes off I'm not going into all that I
can't really explain it besides it was
sealing a deal here and then it says
therefore the kinman said unto Boaz buy
it for thee so he drew off his shoe so
he basically it's like he shook his hand
deal done it's all yours so what he was
doing by taking off his shoe he was
relinquishing the the rights that he had
you know cuz he can come back
later you know if you didn't have
witnesses and say what he stole that
land from me that was my land you see it
all the time today you know let somebody
die big mama said this land belong to me
so and so said no it belong to me and so
on and so on and so on well who knows us
well they told it to me while they was
on the death bed everybody else going
yeah sure they did but here you'll find
now the deal is set you have the elders
you have other inhabitants there the guy
takes off his shoe done deal you can't
go can't go back on this and Boaz said
unto the elders and to all the people
you are witnesses this day you see how
Boaz handled that thing he made sure
everything was covered he said I have
bought all that was amalec and all that
was chilon and milons of the hand of
Naomi because remember there was a
hierarchy there it was AMC Milan tillon
they have passed on someone has to be
the Redeemer so now he steps up now in
some cases you didn't really have to
have to buy the land it would just go up
to you as far as inheritance but guess
what Naomi is in a bad situation she
doesn't have anything remember
everybody's died she's come back but the
land is hers so in reality we don't we
can't we can't cover all this know what
he does he buys the land just so she can
have the money and then he basically he
treats her like she is his mother-in-law
and helps takes care of her the rest of
her life so we see how all those things
come full circle he said more over Ruth
the moabitas the wife of Milan have I
purchased to be my wife to raise up the
name of the Dead upon his inheritance
that the name of the Dead be not cut off
from among his Brethren and from the
Gate of his place ye are witnesses this
day so he followed to the letter he let
them know that we're going raise up a
family not in my name but to those who
have already died that their name would
not be blotted out now there's a lot of
things we can talk about as far as a
theological term of Ru because when the
book of Ru comes up anybody notice what
most people talk about in roof what's
the subject matter you think that most
or people rather or person that people
talk about in
roof here getting together Bo is that's
something talk about but I see something
that people talk about
more whenever I see the book of rof know
people talk about the book called roof
but the call the book of Boaz CU every
talks about Boaz and all that he did
that's what you mostly see Boaz did this
and Boaz did that but in self-study look
at all that Naomi that naom well Naomi
did a lot too but look at all that roof
did Naomi speaks of how kind she was
always to her and she said to those who
have died so other words she was good to
me and you was good to my sons and keep
in mind Naomi lost a lot didn't she did
Ru lose a
lot Ruth lost a whole lot just as much
as she lost and the fact that Ruth says
this she has so much love for her
mother-in-law she said guess what I'm
going to do wherever you go I'm going to
go wherever you live I'm going and the
mother law told you said you realize
you're a stranger coming to Israel and
let's be honest Israel could be some
nasty racist
folks they never called her of Israel
they always said Ruth the moabit this
but show how God would take someone you
consider to be Outsider and will bring
them into the fold because Ru is
recorded in Christ genealogy other words
she was one of the forbearers cuz she
was a mother her and Boaz had a child by
name of OED OED had a son by name of
Jesse Jesse had a son by name of David
who we call King David and which the L
of Jesus preceded from and each time
they mention those words you'll find
Ruth name is always mentioned in it even
though she was a moabi so it shows how
God washed out for her we also learned
how Boaz said I've heard all the great
things you done for your mother-in-law
and then when she came to this house
remember that night he said you got to
leave early cuz the last thing I want is
somebody to see you here and keep in
mind the words that he said was not
about himself he was all about her and
her reputation and how people uplook and
admire her even when she was in the
field the servant said that's Ruth the
moabitas who came back with Naomi and
that's when Bo said I've already heard
everything all about you so there had
nothing but good things to say about
this woman roof but sadly a lot of times
all I hear is Boaz Boaz and Boaz but
today as we said in our selfstudy we're
not talking about any of the men and we
made sure that our lesson deals with
Women of Faith and how God works with
women and how here and now he works with
women by name of rof to show as she was
in place to be in line of the genealogy
that of Christ now in this week lesson
it's a very powerful lesson also deal
with another woman anybody already
looked ahead and see what that woman
is we just had two things happen in the
last two months dealing around her to a
certain extent when we had the child
dedications baby dedications a Woman by
the name of
Hannah and that's what we follow in the
line of when we do baby dedication so on
for now which we discussing that in
great detail next week but once again
you have printed text before you right
study beyond that printed text because a
lot of things show you what this printed
text truly is all about so next week
we'll be moving into that of a Woman by
the name of Hannah itself it said Hera I
made Hannah commits her son to God quick
question Who is her
son correct Samuel was a son little
trivial question there well that ends
our lesson for today and I hope truly
you have gained something from it I hope
I didn't give you too much information
because this what I mean by information
overload when you study all week it's
hard to take all that study and put into
one lesson but you find that those
things are very important and also why
they're important is guess what they go
outside of this lesson later on when
things come up you say I remember
studying this I remember studying that
and so on to the point that you know it
without even giving it much thought you
just come to your mind but with that
being said shall We rise to our feet and
we have a closing word of prayer to come
into worship service oh got one
announcement too last week well this for
everybody really but not last week um we
had the dining in
Paradise um I took photos of that all
the photos are in the back on the table
I asked that out the church did you go
back and look at each every one of them
but before you grab a picture allow
everybody to see the good time and the
fun that we have and everybody who was
there then after that take your pictures
and go on home somewhere okay but don't
just walk by there this is mine and walk
out let people have opportunity to see
the fun that we had that night so for
those who were there your pictures are
in the back and for those who weren't
there you also go back and view them
just to see the good time that we had on
that particular night but shall we pray
father it's once again at this closing
hour that we give your name all praise
and glory for all that's been said and
here this morning we ask dear Lord that
what we have heard and what we have
learned we will retain dear Lord to use
more in our everyday life but also to
help that with others and now dear Lord
as this part of the worship service ends
and we transition now into the worship
experience we ask truly dear Lord that
the spirit would be among us and it
shall be a blessed service bless all
those that are here dear Lord bless
their musicians dear Lord bless the
choirs dear Lord and the preacher of the
hour for in Jesus name we give this
prayer amen
