Transcripts

play00:00

for three years i recorded two videos a

play00:02

week and i put them in a a facebook

play00:04

group uh because i didn't understand how

play00:06

youtube worked and uh over that time

play00:08

period i got better at communicating and

play00:10

things like that um but there was a

play00:13

specific video that was uh among the

play00:15

most watched and most shared videos um

play00:18

that i ever made and i thought i would

play00:20

share it here with you guys mozi nation

play00:21

uh for those of you guys who don't know

play00:22

my name is oxford the own

play00:23

acquisition.com you know portfolio

play00:25

companies that does about 85 million a

play00:26

year now in the video it's from the past

play00:28

so if you hear some of the numbers that

play00:29

are in there

play00:30

it's what i was doing at that time um

play00:33

and this specific video is incredibly

play00:35

valuable to me because it was one of the

play00:37

videos that really set me free in

play00:39

understanding the true single most

play00:41

valuable resource that we have as

play00:42

entrepreneurs and how most entrepreneurs

play00:44

are leaking it and once i plugged that

play00:46

hole for myself is when i started seeing

play00:48

explosive growth uh in my business but

play00:51

also in my life overall and so i wanted

play00:52

to share this video because i think it's

play00:54

incredibly valuable and the the

play00:56

marketplace of attention has said that

play00:57

this was one of the most valuable videos

play00:59

ever made and so i wanted to share with

play01:00

you hope you guys enjoy

play01:04

this is a little bit less common for me

play01:06

i'm uh

play01:07

i was i'm going to make a video or i

play01:09

guess

play01:09

podcast depending on how you're

play01:10

consuming this on a pretty pie in the

play01:13

pie in the sky topic um and i titled

play01:16

this the new entrepreneurial golden

play01:17

resource and how you're probably leaking

play01:19

it so a lot of people don't know this

play01:21

but uh i probably i would say a

play01:24

mentor four or five people on the side

play01:28

not in a formal business setting in

play01:29

terms of like them paying me or anything

play01:31

like that but just people that are have

play01:32

become friends that i've taken interest

play01:33

in their business and i've helped them

play01:35

along and

play01:37

invariably and what's interesting is

play01:39

that the higher up you go the less

play01:40

tactical the mentorship is and so i have

play01:44

so i've had i've had the fortune of

play01:46

actually connecting and befriending my

play01:48

my first billionaire friend which is

play01:50

cool and what's

play01:51

what's happened as a result of that is

play01:53

that like i i obviously obsessively look

play01:55

at what people who are doing better than

play01:57

me are doing and then when i'm relaying

play01:59

to the people who are who i'm trying to

play02:01

help there's this one resource that

play02:03

people who make a ton of money manage

play02:06

extremely well and people who um do not

play02:08

do not and a lot of people i would say

play02:11

mistakenly think that the number one

play02:12

resource is time

play02:14

right everyone's like time is money time

play02:16

is money time is money

play02:18

and i would argue that that's not

play02:19

necessarily true i would argue that

play02:21

attention is money that is the golden

play02:23

resource so the billionaire friend that

play02:24

i have he's actually been helping me on

play02:27

um the new endeavor that we are

play02:29

launching to our gym lords uh soon which

play02:32

i think will change the industry anyways

play02:34

he's been helping me with that stuff but

play02:36

like here's an example

play02:38

on his phone his phone does not ring

play02:40

unless you are already a contact that

play02:42

has been whitelisted

play02:43

his phone doesn't ring it's he is

play02:46

impossible to reach the more successful

play02:48

the more the the larger your company

play02:50

grows the more you scale the more you

play02:53

need to scale the only way to scale you

play02:54

is because you do have a finite amount

play02:56

of attention and so what happens is you

play02:58

have to decrease all of the other things

play03:01

in your life that drain attention

play03:03

because you can have as much time as you

play03:04

want but if you're not there you're not

play03:06

potent you're not able

play03:08

then you can't get anything done with

play03:09

that time that you're supposedly

play03:11

allocating which is why a lot of people

play03:12

end up in this in-between state of

play03:15

always everywhere and at the same time

play03:16

nowhere right and so they're they're

play03:18

everywhere but they're not paying

play03:19

attention to anything and that's and the

play03:22

reason that it's difficult to focus is

play03:24

because entrepreneurs the character

play03:26

trait that made us into entrepreneurs is

play03:28

that we're go getters we're we're

play03:29

risk-averse we're creators we're

play03:31

innovators we're builders right we have

play03:32

all of those traits but the difficulty

play03:34

is is that the thing that gets you from

play03:36

zero to one is not the thing that gets

play03:37

you from one to two right and so one of

play03:40

the the reason that you have to totally

play03:42

morph and why you have to be a growth

play03:44

oriented individual is because you have

play03:45

to change your own individual character

play03:47

traits in order to progress as a

play03:49

business owner and so like i said the

play03:50

things that got you here are not the

play03:52

things that are going to get you there

play03:53

the things that got you here which is

play03:54

your own internal skills are not the

play03:56

things that you need to pass on to other

play03:57

people so the only way that you were

play03:59

able to grow your business at a certain

play04:00

point is by growing other people right

play04:02

and the only way you can do that is if

play04:04

you have the attention and the bandwidth

play04:05

in order to do so and that's why if you

play04:07

look at a business owner and like the

play04:08

more i obsess on looking at billionaires

play04:10

and people who are doing better than we

play04:12

are is i look at how quiet and how clean

play04:16

they keep their space and i mean that

play04:18

both both in a literal sense that like

play04:20

their surroundings their office their

play04:23

house their homes their cell phone their

play04:25

computers right there it's it's it's

play04:28

quiet right everything like it's it's

play04:30

pristine

play04:32

and when you talk to these people

play04:33

there's a certain amount of of

play04:35

tranquility that's there and

play04:38

and they just they just have very low

play04:40

tolerance

play04:41

and it's not that they're trying to be

play04:42

impatient with you or impatient with the

play04:44

world it's just that they understand

play04:45

that they have so like they're they're

play04:47

operating at such a high level that

play04:49

there's so many things that are

play04:50

demanding of their time and attention

play04:51

that they just like they can't and so

play04:54

they have to forcibly remove themselves

play04:56

from so many different situations and

play04:58

i'm going to give you an example so one

play05:00

of the people that i'm i'm i'm somewhat

play05:01

mentoring right they had they had four

play05:03

businesses and this is something that

play05:05

that happens so many times it lit like

play05:08

like you want you want a hundred

play05:09

thousand dollar coaching this is what

play05:11

happens in hundred thousand dollar

play05:12

coaching sessions and i'm being honest

play05:13

with you what happens is someone who's

play05:15

coming in usually doing between one and

play05:16

three million dollars a year um can't

play05:19

get past a certain point right and the

play05:21

reason they can't get past is because

play05:22

they only have so much attention they've

play05:24

spread between four or five different

play05:26

cases that's when the gym owner has four

play05:29

gyms and is making less money than they

play05:30

did when they had one gym because the

play05:32

amount of attention that they can

play05:33

allocate to one facility has gone down

play05:35

so much that with fixed costs they

play05:37

basically are breaking even right and so

play05:39

the same thing happens now that

play05:41

entrepreneur is probably making one to

play05:42

three million in gross revenue but not

play05:44

taking anything home because they don't

play05:45

have the attention actually put onto

play05:47

things and so in order to grow you need

play05:49

to do less

play05:51

in order to grow you need to do less

play05:54

and that comes from both delegation and

play05:55

also

play05:56

choosing what not to do the better you

play05:58

get the better the opportunities that

play06:00

you have to say no to

play06:01

imagine the level of opportunities that

play06:03

we have now i'm just being honest so

play06:05

imagine

play06:06

how many things we could do or trying jv

play06:10

with or do a partnership with or

play06:11

whatever because of the distribution

play06:13

network that we have and the trust and

play06:15

the goodwill that we have with the gym

play06:16

owners um that we have in our network

play06:18

right a lot i get i you know how many

play06:21

people

play06:22

cold message me like i have an

play06:23

opportunity for you i'm like really you

play06:25

have an opportunity for me and so the

play06:27

better you get the better your

play06:28

opportunities you have to say no to

play06:30

which is why becoming a higher and

play06:32

higher and higher level entrepreneur is

play06:34

more and more difficult because it

play06:35

requires discipline

play06:37

it's not about doing more it's about

play06:39

doing less because we innately want to

play06:40

do more so doing more of your own

play06:42

internal characteristic if that was what

play06:44

it took to get to be more successful

play06:47

then everyone would be more successful

play06:48

because it would be something that does

play06:50

not take effort because that is

play06:51

something that we already do it's like

play06:53

man i outwork anyone i've got all this

play06:54

work with it cool that gets you from

play06:55

zero to one

play06:57

it's not gonna get you any further than

play06:58

that so stop identifying with that it

play07:00

was something that i used to identify

play07:02

with i was like i'll i'll outwork anyone

play07:04

or whatever like that was something that

play07:06

i used to think about and it was a

play07:07

character trait it was an identity thing

play07:09

and the more you grow the more you

play07:11

realize that your identity needs to be

play07:12

fluid because what it needs to be is

play07:15

exactly what it needs to be at that

play07:16

given time of development because the

play07:19

character traits that i'm going to have

play07:20

to emphasize in a year are going to be

play07:22

different than the ones that i have to

play07:23

emphasize now the skills that you need

play07:25

to learn like delegation

play07:27

leadership those are things that are not

play07:28

the things that take you in the

play07:30

beginning you have to be independent you

play07:32

have to be

play07:33

a hustling you have to be grinding you

play07:34

have to be willing to put in the work

play07:36

because no one else will do it for you

play07:37

especially if you have no capital to

play07:38

start which most people who are on here

play07:40

are in that situation to reel this back

play07:42

in

play07:42

the number one thing that you have to be

play07:44

paying attention to

play07:46

is where you are paying your attention

play07:49

right like you spend attention that's

play07:51

why they call it paying attention it's

play07:52

because it is a resource and most people

play07:55

don't pay attention to that right and so

play07:57

one of the things that a lot of people

play07:58

don't know about me this one's going to

play07:59

go along um

play08:02

some of the things that a lot of people

play08:03

don't know about me is that i for

play08:05

nine months

play08:06

paid a coach to teach me one thing which

play08:09

was to manage my attention was to teach

play08:12

me how to think

play08:13

and so for 90 minutes every single day

play08:16

all i did was talk about what i was

play08:19

thinking about

play08:20

think about that

play08:22

every day i paid attention to where my

play08:24

attention was

play08:27

and when i did that all of a sudden my

play08:29

business blew up

play08:30

right and i realized that i had toxic

play08:32

relationships i had toxic relationships

play08:34

with parents i had toxic relationships

play08:36

with friends or pseudo friends things

play08:38

that i that were taking my attention

play08:41

past things that i had on my mind that i

play08:43

knew i had not handled so those are

play08:44

called like open loops or open cycles

play08:46

right so when you have something that

play08:47

you like i haven't resolved this then

play08:49

you need to handle that and you'll get

play08:51

that attention back because what happens

play08:52

is you have this bowl this tiny little

play08:54

bowl of marbles that each of those

play08:56

marbles is is a unit of attention right

play08:58

if you had to measure it and so you put

play09:00

little marbles of attention on your

play09:03

childhood traumas you put little marbles

play09:04

of attention on your marriage you put

play09:06

little uh marbles of attention on your

play09:09

health you put little marvel's attention

play09:10

on your spirituality and then massive

play09:13

marbles of attention on your business

play09:15

but the thing is is that sometimes you

play09:16

need to quiet and collect all of these

play09:18

other little marbles so that you have

play09:20

more potency more potential energy more

play09:23

potential units of attention to spend on

play09:26

the one thing that you're trying to grow

play09:27

which in this case would be your

play09:28

business and what's interesting is that

play09:30

what happens is that things that were

play09:32

perceived as difficult become really

play09:34

easy and i don't know if you've ever had

play09:36

this happen but like if you were in

play09:37

college or you were in high school and

play09:38

you're like man i can't solve this

play09:39

problem this math problem and you were

play09:41

exhausted then you go to bed and you

play09:42

wake up the next morning and then all of

play09:44

a sudden it seems really easy you're

play09:46

like i don't know why i didn't see that

play09:47

before because attention gives you the

play09:49

ability to see

play09:51

right like if you're if you think about

play09:52

wisdom right wisdom is an ability to see

play09:55

what other people cannot see

play09:56

right two people are presented the same

play09:58

situation the wiser person sees things

play10:00

that the other person doesn't and how

play10:01

can you see better you see better if you

play10:03

have more ability to see which comes

play10:06

from your most valuable resource

play10:08

attention how much horsepower do you

play10:09

have and so look at the things that you

play10:11

have in your in your life right now like

play10:13

if i see someone who has a messy

play10:14

relationship life who's got a messy love

play10:16

life who goes out every weekend and gets

play10:18

trashed right like i can tell you

play10:20

billionaires don't do that that like the

play10:21

whole tony stark like

play10:24

vision of the entrepreneur is a farce

play10:27

it's not true don't believe that every

play10:30

single billionaire every single

play10:31

high-level entrepreneur is quiet

play10:34

unbelievably quiet they keep themselves

play10:36

completely isolated they have a bubble

play10:39

around them of of layers of protection

play10:41

they're like like for me it's it's

play10:44

me and then there's layla and then we

play10:46

have our co and then we have our

play10:49

executive assistant team because we have

play10:51

a team of eas at this point we have four

play10:53

um who work the next level there's no

play10:56

one who has direct

play10:57

access to me including our employees no

play11:00

one does

play11:01

and that's because it's it would

play11:03

disserve you

play11:04

you guys our gym owners if everyone had

play11:07

access to me the reason that i don't

play11:08

respond to facebook messages is not

play11:10

because i don't want to it's because i

play11:12

literally can't and if i did i would be

play11:15

disturbing everyone because then my

play11:16

attention would be split because someone

play11:18

can't generate leads in their mind or

play11:20

whatever you know what i mean like

play11:21

because these little things these little

play11:23

things that are perceived as huge issues

play11:25

to you in that moment because you have a

play11:27

little bit of attention

play11:28

you you have so little left that

play11:30

everything seems like an explosion but

play11:32

when you have lots of capacity big

play11:35

problems seem small and small problems

play11:37

seem big and it sounds reverse because

play11:39

what you do is you start seeing that all

play11:41

of these things are attention drains and

play11:43

you just say i don't want to play

play11:44

anymore

play11:45

then you stop playing

play11:47

and then all of a sudden everything gets

play11:49

really simple because the only things

play11:50

you have to do become really simple at

play11:53

our gym lord's event one of the things

play11:54

that we had to do or that i had everyone

play11:55

do

play11:56

was simply define the number that they

play11:59

needed to have in their gym number of

play12:01

efts in order to have the lifestyle that

play12:04

they wanted to have really simple simple

play12:06

process

play12:08

most people didn't have that but it's

play12:10

amazing what happens when you have

play12:11

clarity because then it allows you to

play12:13

put your attention in one direction

play12:15

right and then it gives you a litmus

play12:16

test will this help me grow this number

play12:18

yes or no yes cool let's do it no ignore

play12:21

it right and it takes discipline to say

play12:24

ignore it

play12:25

it takes discipline

play12:26

that's why it's hard that's why most

play12:28

entrepreneurs aren't successful that's

play12:30

why most entrepreneurs don't grow is

play12:31

because it's hard it's counterintuitive

play12:33

it's counter your character and so you

play12:35

have to learn how to not be yourself in

play12:37

order to be the person that you want to

play12:38

be

play12:39

and that's why that's why most people

play12:40

don't do it and so to go ridiculously

play12:43

full circle on this

play12:44

every time i meet with an entrepreneur

play12:46

and i told you we i

play12:49

coach is probably a loose term but i'll

play12:51

meet with um a few a handful of

play12:52

entrepreneurs um on a semi-regular basis

play12:55

and just see how how's it going and the

play12:57

question that i always ask is what's

play12:58

your attention where's your attention

play13:00

and if someone comes in and they seem

play13:01

really really like scattered i already

play13:04

know that their attention's all over the

play13:05

place they're super spread they're less

play13:07

able so of course they can't grow their

play13:09

business because they don't have the

play13:10

very horsepower the main resource that

play13:12

allows them to grow and push

play13:14

right and so look at your life look at

play13:17

your relationship with your spouse loved

play13:19

one look at your habits

play13:21

how you wake up how you eat how you

play13:23

exercise do you drink here's an example

play13:25

for why we stop drinking all right and

play13:27

it has nothing to do with any kind like

play13:29

there's no religious anything

play13:31

regarding this we stopped drinking

play13:33

because i realized that i would drink

play13:35

at night on a fairly regular basis not

play13:38

like i always had some issue with it i

play13:39

really didn't i mean i drank a lot but i

play13:41

just whatever the point is this is that

play13:43

i would i would drink in the evenings

play13:45

because i would it would it would help

play13:46

me just de-stress but help me unwind

play13:49

but what that does is it masks the thing

play13:52

that is taking my attention that i have

play13:54

anxiety on

play13:55

right and so if you need to take a drink

play13:57

to unwind then it means you have things

play14:00

that you have not resolved and so one by

play14:03

one what happened is that when i stopped

play14:04

drinking everything got really loud

play14:06

and so i had to face and confront the

play14:09

things that i had not resolved yet and

play14:11

so in the beginning it's the hardest but

play14:13

then what happens is once you've

play14:15

actually resolved all of those things

play14:17

the desire to drink goes away because

play14:18

you're like well i actually feel really

play14:20

good right now i don't want to mess that

play14:21

up

play14:22

and so it flips but it took it took

play14:24

probably six months for that to happen

play14:26

from it

play14:26

um and so i'm just giving that as an

play14:29

example of um

play14:31

of what of what having your attention

play14:33

split and kind of getting gaining that

play14:35

attention back can be so look at your

play14:37

life look at your relationships look at

play14:39

your habits and the things that are

play14:41

taking your attention you need to handle

play14:43

complete the cycles and get the

play14:44

attention back so you can work on the

play14:46

one thing that you're trying to grow and

play14:47

if you have side hustles and side

play14:49

businesses

play14:50

get rid of them

play14:51

kill them that's what people like people

play14:54

come and they pay tons of money to tell

play14:56

them

play14:56

do one thing and the only reason that

play14:58

they listen is because we make one

play15:01

and i'm telling you right now that's

play15:02

what i would tell you do one thing focus

play15:05

do one thing focus

play15:07

saying it again that's why most times uh

play15:10

when someone comes in they're like hey i

play15:11

want to start an online business in a

play15:13

food prep business and

play15:14

and and uh whatever right all at the

play15:17

same time because one of them is going

play15:19

to take off it doesn't work that way all

play15:21

of them could take off you could have a

play15:23

billion dollar

play15:25

uh food prep business you could have a

play15:26

billion dollar gym business like your

play15:29

business like having more businesses is

play15:31

a farce i was talking to a gym owner the

play15:32

other day and he's like yeah i mean two

play15:34

paychecks is better than one and i was

play15:35

like no one fat paycheck is better than

play15:37

two you can have a hundred million

play15:38

dollar roofing business right that just

play15:41

repairs rooms you don't need to do

play15:42

general contracting and also windows and

play15:44

also gutters and roofs you can just do

play15:47

one thing and be really really really

play15:48

really really good at it and make as

play15:50

much money as you want and so just break

play15:52

that belief of yourself of like i have

play15:54

to have three things in order to make

play15:55

more money you know you don't you don't

play15:57

it's not true you need one thing i had

play15:59

someone who's in the real estate space

play16:01

who was doing real estate coaching

play16:03

after uh her first month of being in the

play16:04

coaching uh called me up and was like

play16:06

there's just not enough real estate

play16:08

agents she was doing like 200 000 a

play16:10

month and i was like real estate agents

play16:12

i said how how how small of a market do

play16:15

you think micro gym owner is

play16:17

i was like you literally outnumber my

play16:19

market a hundred to one and i was like

play16:21

and we are out doing outpacing your

play16:22

revenue

play16:24

twenty to one

play16:25

it's it's just these beliefs that we

play16:27

have that are silly and i can tell you

play16:28

that the the higher up you go all of

play16:30

those limiting beliefs disappear and you

play16:32

just see people who operate a very high

play16:34

level very quiet very clean they they're

play16:36

like if someone walks in the door and

play16:37

there's any negativity those people just

play16:39

get up and late nothing personal i just

play16:41

can't have that in my life right someone

play16:42

complained someone's negative oh this

play16:44

weather ah traffic stop like no worries

play16:47

i'm just gonna get up and go it's

play16:48

nothing personal right that's how they

play16:50

handle themselves so um thank you guys

play16:52

for your attention um i hope i gave you

play16:54

a positive return on it that was my

play16:56

intention um this wasn't a normal uh

play16:58

type of uh

play17:00

video that i would normally make but it

play17:01

was something that was like on my mind

play17:03

and i just had uh two or three calls

play17:04

recently where i had told people to

play17:07

consolidate their businesses get rid of

play17:09

one two or three businesses and then

play17:12

within a matter of 30 days

play17:15

two of those people

play17:17

had a multiple of 3x on their total

play17:19

revenue between of what they were doing

play17:21

before within a 30-day period just by

play17:23

getting their attention back look at

play17:24

what you can consolidate lots of

play17:26

everyone i appreciate you and um

play17:29

shoot a like for someone who feels

play17:30

really distracted or if you have a

play17:31

spouse and you're like we should clean

play17:33

up our stuff

play17:34

tag them so that you can clean it up and

play17:36

uh

play17:37

have to get some attention back all

play17:39

right that's a lot have an amazing

play17:40

thursday and i will talk to you guys

play17:41

soon all right
