Q & A
What is the main objective of this video?
-The main objective of the video is to spotlight one of the Autodesk Certified User exam objectives for Fusion 360, specifically focusing on the direct modeling feature using the Press Pull tool.
What does the Press Pull tool in Fusion 360 do?
-The Press Pull tool allows users to modify existing features or create new offsets by selecting faces or holes on the model. It enables changes to dimensions, such as hole diameter or surface thickness.
How can you modify the diameter of a hole using the Press Pull tool?
-To modify the diameter of a hole, you can select the hole using the Press Pull tool and adjust the offset type to either modify an existing feature or create a new offset. The user can input a new dimension, such as changing a 1-inch hole to a 0.5-inch diameter.
What happens in the model history when you use the Press Pull tool?
-When using the Press Pull tool, the model history is updated automatically. For example, if you modify a hole, a small icon with three diagonal hash marks appears above the corresponding command in the history tree, indicating a change.
Can you revert changes made using the Press Pull tool?
-Yes, you can revert changes by using the Press Pull tool again. For instance, after modifying a hole size, you can select the hole again and change it back to its original dimension.
How does the Autodesk Certified User exam test the usage of the Press Pull tool?
-In the exam, users may be asked to modify features such as hole sizes or face thickness using the Press Pull tool. They may also be required to report changes in the model, such as the volume or mass after modifications.
What are some common tasks in the exam related to the Press Pull tool?
-Common tasks include adjusting the size of holes, modifying the thickness of faces, offsetting geometry by a specified distance, and reporting the updated mass or volume of the part after changes.
What happens when you offset a face using the Press Pull tool?
-When you offset a face using the Press Pull tool, a new icon is added to the model history tree, indicating a new feature. If you want to remove the offset, you can delete the corresponding feature, which will revert the geometry to its original state.
How can you check the mass and volume of a part in Fusion 360?
-You can check the mass and volume of a part by right-clicking on the component, selecting 'Properties,' and viewing the details such as mass and volume in the properties window.
How does changing the hole size affect the volume of a part?
-Changing the hole size affects the overall volume of the part. For example, reducing the hole diameter increases the volume of the part, and Fusion 360 updates the volume automatically when such changes are made.
Outlines
📚 Introduction to Autodesk Fusion 360 Exam Spotlight
The video introduces a tutorial focusing on one of the objectives of the Autodesk Certified User (ACU) exam for Fusion 360, specifically about the direct modeling technique using the Press and Pull tool. The presenter explains the goal of the video and sets the context by referencing a tube hanger model created in Fusion 360, where sketches and features have been logged in the model history.
🛠️ Overview of the Press and Pull Tool in Fusion 360
The Press and Pull tool is introduced under the Modify panel, and its functionality is discussed. The presenter explains how the tool works automatically by default, allowing users to select features like holes and modify them. In this example, the tool is used to change the diameter of a hole from 1 inch to 0.5 inches and then revert it back to 1 inch, with changes reflected in the history tree. The ease of making such modifications is highlighted.
📏 Practical Applications of the Press and Pull Tool
Further applications of the Press and Pull tool are demonstrated, such as selecting faces of the model to thicken or extend them. The example shows offsetting a face by two inches, creating a new entry in the model history tree. The user can delete this entry to revert to the original geometry. This practical use of the tool is likely to appear in the exam, where candidates are asked to modify dimensions and report the resulting changes.
🔍 Exam Task: Verifying Mass and Volume
The video covers how to check the mass and volume properties of a model, another key task in the ACU exam. The presenter demonstrates by right-clicking on the component and viewing its properties, revealing mass and volume values. They then show how changing the hole size alters the volume of the part, explaining that the exam might ask candidates to report such changes after making modifications.
✅ Conclusion: Preparing for the Autodesk Fusion 360 Exam
The video concludes with the presenter summarizing the key takeaway from the tutorial, which focused on the Press and Pull tool. The presenter encourages viewers to check out additional videos on other exam objectives to prepare effectively for the ACU exam. They also offer to answer any questions and wish viewers good luck in their exam preparation.

hey everyone this is another video to
spotlight one of the autodesk certified
user exam objectives for fusion 360. and
in this video we're going to take a look
at direct modeling specifically dealing
with the press and pull
tool and so as we go into fusion we're
going to see what this kind of does for
us so as we look we have a tube hanger
here that i've created and we can see
all of the
sketches and features that were
logged into the model history cheaters
to see how this part was created
under the modify panel you'll also find
or it most of the time it should be the
first option here is called press pull
and so when i use this tool it just says
to have an automatic selection so here's
one thing that i can do
is if i select the hole here on the side
i can either go through and in here it
has offset type automatic where it says
modify existing feature or new offset so
if we choose auto if we have it set to
automatic like it is by default it's
going to pick it up which actually if
you check down in your history tree
there's a three lines kind of diagonal
lines or hash marks there that are right
above the whole command so it knows that
we're kind of making a little change to
the offset
of the whole command so instead of maybe
a one inch diameter hole
maybe i want to back this down to maybe
0.5
then i can say okay
so there it's an easy modification and
if i go into my whole command by right
clicking on the feature down here on the
history tree and saying to edit the
feature
you're going to notice the setting
automatically updated as well it's set
to 0.5 so i'm going to hit cancel and if
i want to set this back
i can use the same press pull command
select the hole and then put put this
back out to one inch
and then say okay and now we have
our whole back so
a lot of times in the fusion 360 exam
they will go through and they'll have
you modify like hole sizes or
they'll have you choose even a face on
something and if they want you to
thicken or extend you can see how it's
kind of changing that particular
geometry there they will go through and
have you offset
this
by maybe a certain distance like here
maybe we want it to be two inches
or something like that and that would be
something that we can go through
and do as well now in this case this is
an offset face so since where we weren't
modifying an existing feature it did add
a new icon down here in our model
history tree so if i want to get rid of
it i can delete it and in that way it
brings back
the the geometry one thing that they
will do in the exam is i'm going to
right click on the component and go to
properties
and they want you to check or maybe
enter in what are like maybe what is the
mass
or what is the volume of the part and so
here i can see the mass
is 83.37
uh three and then the volume is 18.374
inches cubed so if i go and change
for example even the size of this hole
i can go ahead and then
take a look at
my new volume
and have to see that now my volume
is gone to
24.264 so inches cubed so this is what a
lot of the cases of the acu exam do
is they will tell
the user to change or modify something
and then report what is the volume the
new volume of the part after the changes
or maybe even what is the mass of the
part once the changes are done so you're
going to see a lot of those types of
questions that will happen where they
want you to
to communicate what that would be
so
that is it for the
press
pool tool and so for
