I believe that nurses have greater job
prospects and job opportunities than
biomedical scientist
s welcome back to another
um so guys today we have a very very
exciting topic I am going to be
comparing the two professions which is
biomedical science and nursing because I
I did a video earlier on um biomedical
science and medicine medical doctor
biomedical scientist and I guess a lot
of people actually liked that video If
you haven't watched it I'll probably try
to link it up here so you can go and
watch the video then come back and also
watch this one so today we're going to
be dealing with biomedical science and
nursing I have some few points that I'll
be using to compare the two courses and
yeah without further Ado let's get into
the video if you actually do enjoy
watching this video I hope you stick
around by clicking the Subscribe button
to join my family give the video a
thumbs up and let's get into the video
one thing that really inspired me
to do this video is because
um first of all I actually got a comment
about someone who said she he or she was
a biomedical did Med lab science you
know as an undergrad degree and she's
looking to come to the uh come abroad to
do her Masters in nursing she wanted to
know if it was possible and how long it
took so um that's what really inspired
me to like do this video to actually do
compare the two professions I also know
someone who actually did a biomedic med
lab science as her first degree and then
did nothing in her Masters and now she's
working as a registered nurse yeah so
that's why I think these two professions
are quite
they have similarities and of course
differences and we're going to be
looking at that so if you're interested
um in this video definitely without
further Ado let's get into the video so
the first point I'm going to be talking
about is the number of years
um it takes you to become a nurse and
the number of years it takes you to
become a biomedical science basically so
far
um with what I know they both have the
same duration of study to get your
undergrads degree so in Nigeria it takes
five years to become a med lab scientist
and also take five years to become a
nurse a nurse while I was in school in
Nigeria like
um we my department which was Med lab
science and the nursing department we
usually used to have classes together
from our 100 and 200 level I think we
separated
um into like different departments
properly at 300 level but still we all
graduated together and yeah it's it
takes um the same amount of years to
become a nurse that it takes to become a
biomedical science for your
undergraduate degree the nature of the
job is also very very important in this
comparison so as a biomedical scientist
or Med lab scientists you are going to
basically be working in the laboratory
um settings yeah basically in the
laboratory kind of behind the scenes
because you know patients don't really
get to see you patients don't really
really spend time you know in the lab if
they have to come to the lab they
probably just come to um probably
drop their sample also get their results
most times especially spend lots of time
in the world or in the Consulting rooms
so
um the as the biological sciences you
basically work behind the scenes but as
a nurse You're Going to most times be in
the world on the world either like
regardless of the word you're in you're
going to be on the world and you're
going to like have direct contacts with
patients so that's the second
um difference and the third difference
is going to be
the um
the type of work you do so as a nurse
you know nurses basically have the duty
of caring and managing patients
condition you know they have the care
plan the nursing plan they they
practically like give care to the
patients you know one treatment and all
of that you know all of the roles of a
nurse basically
um they are really really involved in
the patients physically but as a
biomedical scientist Your Role is to
diagnose so they bring the sample and
then you run and analyze and then you
diagnose um you know
the patients like you you run test out a
diagnosis so you know the two roles are
really really different while
um the nurse takes care of the patients
you know one-on-one the med lab Sciences
or biomedical scientists run samples and
runs tests you know to take to a
diagnosis of the patient so guys the
first point I'm going to be talking
about is the job opportunities now I'm a
biomedical scientist and I am going to
be really fair and factual I believe
that nurses have greater job prospect
and job opportunities done by a medical
scientists and
um this is the reason I believe so you
know usually more nurses are employed
than most Bad Lab scientists because
um one scientist you know can also can
run a whole Hospital in the sense that
can run a whole Lab rather I mean one
scientist can run a lab you know because
you know you don't necessarily have to
like deal with the patients you know
you're running samples and you can run
multiple samples at the same time most
um most samples now are now most test
procedures are kind of automated now so
basically you actually can even run a
batch of samples at the same time but
when it comes to nursing you have to
attend to each of the patients so
because of that definitely more nurses
are going to be needed than more doc um
sorry than more biomedical scientists
because you know
there is only so much Oneness there's
only so much number of patients one
nurse can attend to so because because
of this I believe that's why nurses are
more employed like most nurses have more
job opportunities than even
um Med lab scientists
um both you know nationally and
internationally most of these countries
like most nurses find it really easy to
migrate to other countries they just
need to like do their exams and
Licensing and all of that and they are
going to be able to like get jobs
overseas so that's my own perspective I
feel like as a nurse um there are more
job opportunities than biomedical stuff
and that does not mean there are no jobs
for biomedical Sciences lots of
biomedical Sciences are employed but I
just feel like there are greater number
of opportunities for a nurse and also
because there are different kind of
nursing we now have like travel nurses
that are just you know they travel to go
and work you know that people have
personal nurses you know family nurses
the Care Homes they need nurses you know
basically they have really different
places that nurses can actually work but
usually a biomedical scientist my my
only be able to work either
you know in limited number of places
like maybe a school or a laboratory or
the hospital you know they're not really
things like travel biomedical scientists
or travel Med lab scientists and all of
that but that does not mean that there
are no job opportunities for mid-life
scientists final thing I'm going to be
um comparing biomedical scientists and
nursing with is the pay
so I think that this there is no
definite I in my own opinion I don't
think there is a definite
um
um like I don't think you can say nurses
earn more than biomedical scientists or
biomedical sciences and what are nurses
because there is no standard salary if
that makes sense so depending on where
you work or like what organization you
work with as a nurse in my end higher
and as a biomedical scientist in my n
higher and also depends on like your
level your band you know your
qualifications and all of that but to be
honest I believe that the both of them
get like the both the bull professions
are quite you know prestigious and they
get like you know a reasonable amount of
pay you know for the work that has been
done yeah so
basically these are the few points that
I had you know to compare biomedical
scientists
um and nurses since we ended this video
by saying that as a biomedical scientist
you can become a nurse as a main lab
scientist you can become a nurse like I
said earlier there are people who do men
lab with their first degree my life
science and you know during their
masters they do nursing and they get do
the like licensing exam and become a
nurse and also there are also people who
do
um it's also possible for you to do your
to to be a nurse like to do nothing in
your first degree and you know go for a
master's in biomedical science you know
complete some other modules get
registered and be able to work as a
biomedical scientist so basically it is
possible for you to be both if you want
to be but like what's the point of being
both when you can be one and just keep
progressing in that one but it's up to
you like whatever your choice is
um I hope you enjoy this content if you
did please um like I said click the like
button subscribe and if there is any
video that you want me to probably talk
about then you can also like
um drop a comment and I'll look into you
know that topic thank you guys so much
