Transcripts
we are here at last the final game to
talk about from the latest Nintendo
Direct and you know this one was a
pleasant surprise a real pleasant
surprise we had a lot of really big
Bombshells in this direct nice to have
just kind of like a smaller more
pleasant little surprise just kind of
round out the experience you have your
really big stuff but then you have some
nice like medium smaller stuff too I
like it I will say briefly just right
here at the beginning of this discussion
it really is time for a new game and
this is getting a little bit ridiculous
it's just it's it's getting a little
silly it's kind of just like what what
even is happening with DK at Nintendo um
this a very uh funny comment on the uh
the trailer on YouTube One superb Connor
64 posted timeline of DK games since
2010 2010 Donkey Kong Country Returns
2013 Donkey Kong Country Returns 2014
Donkey Kong Country Tropical freeze 2018
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze 2025
Donkey Kong Country Returns what is this
like why you would think that like I
mean it's DK you know he's he's next in
line after Mario for just like the
Legacy beloved mamoto original Nintendo
IPS you'd think that he would get top
priority I don't know like I can easily
imagine a timeline where all of this
time we've been getting a new DK game
like every few years but I don't know
but I'm still not really complaining
because I just see this as a good thing
it's kind of like Luigi's Mansion 2 HD
where like yeah it's true if it's just a
really simple remaster at full price
which it it does seem to be that I I'm
I'm calling it now this game is not
going to have anything special going for
it it's it's exactly like Luigi's
Mansion 2 HD it's the same game they
made it look a little bit better they
put it on switch they're probably
charging full price for it yes it is
kind of annoying I will admit
but at the end of the day I can't deny
that this is a great game and now it's
going to be available on a modern
platform easier to play than ever more
accessible more more people can play it
looking better than ever and it's a good
thing you know I I I don't want to get
too caught up in the whole price and the
you know the lack of a new game and all
that stuff this is a really cool thing I
am really happy that we're going to have
the option to play this game on our
switches pretty soon especially because
because um I really just like the fact
that this game exists at all uh I
already touched on this in the uh
General direct discussion but I'm I'm
just happy to see that Nintendo was
willing to give us this even though the
game was already kind of like redone on
3DS um cuz we have all of these games
now that have gotten re-releases on the
3DS and that makes you wonder if
Nintendo feels like they're kind of
trapped there cuz they don't want to
redo a game that soon after redoing it
there's generally a pretty like long
stretch of time between these things and
so we got like a re-release of Luigi's
Mansion 1 like Kirby's Epic Yarn Yoshi's
woolly world and that's been like that's
a that's a real shame I'd say Yoshi's
woly world is a really really big one
people are really waiting to come to
switch and it's like is it ever going to
happen if they already redid it on the
3DS so it's just nice to see dkc returns
got a 3DS re-release and now they are
doing it again on the switch because why
not cuz that's that's always My
Philosophy with like remasters and
remakes and stuff it's like just do it
just put it on the darn system it
doesn't matter if you did it a few years
ago just do it especially you know
greater topic and everything but like
especially because the switch it's
easier to use it's a simple ones screen
setup so everything you bring here if
later systems are going to be backwards
compatible we're we're in this much
easier to use digital ecosystem so now
get everything on it and then maybe it
can just kind of stay there but yeah
that's the whole thing it's really cool
that it's coming to switch and I I it
does make me wonder if this is kind of
um a little bit strategic it's not just
Nintendo needed a remaster for that
little slot they just needed like a you
know an easy win I wonder if this is
actually them sort of maybe priming us
for a new game on switch 2 uh there have
been you know donkey K new Donkey Kong
game rumors we got them years ago
they've been swirling around around for
years and I do believe that is quite
likely that they are working on a new
one um I really expected to see it
before the end of the switch generation
I know technically it still could I mean
they could announce it in September for
release close to the release of switch
to next year possibly I don't really
know but then probably not if we're
getting this game they're they're saving
this until January so they're not going
to release a new game that year too so
yeah I don't really know I I I think
there is at least a chance that this is
kind of just I don't know getting people
talking about DK again getting them a
little bit primed for something new
coming within the first year or two of
switch 2 maybe possibly so there's all
that to say about like the existence of
the game uh you know not a whole ton to
say about the game itself uh you know
again this this is clearly another
Luigi's Mansion 2 HD
situation it just kind of looks better
you know that's that's that's really it
it just it just kind of looks better you
know the graphics they look good they
look good they look fine uh you know not
quite as good as Tropical Freeze but
that is to be expected because Tropical
Freeze was built for the Wii U whereas
dkc returns was built for the Wii and
they don't want to like redo every
single thing so you know maybe they're
redoing some character models or
something but for the most part just
kind of scaling things up maybe
replacing some textures polishing things
up here and there uh the cutcenes are
completely redone that's really nice uh
I I do have to wonder if this is another
like AI upscale
like they did with the Pikmin 2 cutcenes
which looked really really weirdly
surprisingly good uh or if maybe they
just still had the original source files
and just rendered it out again you know
like truly remastered them uh I don't
know but either way they look really
really great they're all pre-rendered
and they they already looked really good
I love all of the Just the animation and
character work in the Donkey Kong
Country you know returns in tropical
Freeze I I think they look really really
good and and like one of my only
problems with these games is that there
just isn't more I feel like the
potential is really there to give us so
just the animations and everything
they're just so incredibly good these
characters are so likable I want to see
more but I know that's off the subject
um yeah dkc returns is a really really
really super good game I do think
Tropical Freeze was
better but this one is still good I I
never played the original on the Wii I
played the the 3DS re-release and uh
loved it loved the absolute heck out of
it played it a a whole ton and you know
and they added a good amount of content
and uh new features quality of life
features the extra hearts and stuff to
the 3DS one and and naturally all of
that content is coming over to the
switch version and and I I do believe
that that does guarant like let's not
kid ourselves there's not going to be
new content there's not going to be new
features it's not going to happen I
don't think we're even going to get one
single little thing maybe the tiniest
quality of life thing or something but I
don't know they they already did they
already fixed up the game and I kind of
feel like Nintendo is just going to be
like you're already getting all the new
stuff from before what more could you
want what what more could you possibly
want so uh it is a little bit surprising
because out of all of the announcements
in the direct this one was definitely
like kind of at the bottom in terms of
just I don't know like uh how like I
don't know substantial and important and
fan pleasing it was you know it's it's a
remaster of a really good game it's just
not like you know it's it's not blowing
anyone's minds or anything so it is a
little bit funny that like almost all of
the other games are releasing in the
second half of this year in this one we
actually have to wait a little bit
longer than those ones we're going to be
playing a new 2D Zelda game starring
Zelda dramatically sooner than we are
this dkc returns remaster which is just
a little bit funny and that really does
just go to show like Nintendo's output
has been so crazy and they are so I mean
this is another really big discussion
they are they have become so dedicated
to delivering games so consistently that
sometimes they're like oh yeah I'm I'm
we could have finished this up and
released it we could have released it
today it's probably already done we
could have Shadow dropped it if we want
but like there's just too many games
coming out so we some of them we just
have to hold on and use them to kind of
just plug a little hole in the schedule
later on they already had so so many
games coming in just the following
months that they were like we we got to
hold on to this one until January and
yeah just I don't just the fact that
even this late in the switch's life they
have earned the ability to just Coast to
just put all their eggs in the switch to
basket don't even worry about switch for
the last this final year of it being
their primary console no they are still
delivering they are delivering a notable
title every like month or two I I don't
know I just I think that's really
amazing that's really incredible
dedication so that's it that that's dkc
returns HD AKA dkc returns returns
returns as finally that's the final game
that's the final trailer I had to make a
video
about Whoa man what a what a what a ride
what a week this has been now the only
thing left to do is to get started on
this massive list this overwhelming
number of additional videos that this
Nintendo Direct has spawned not
necessarily related to discussing
individual game trailers but still
discussions that have simply arised just
ideas that have popped up in my head
because of the direct I got how many do
I have here let's see I have 1 2 3 4
five six I have six video ideas right
here I don't have to like focus on you
know pumping them out really really
super fast and sticking them on topic
rlo they're probably all main Channel
discussions but yeah fortunately these
can kind of be done over the next you
know in in the coming weeks the the
period of ongoing discussion following a
really really big and impactful Nintendo
Direct but yes we me me and Kane do have
our work cut out for us so please wish
us luck six six more videos on top of
all of the other videos we were already
working on okay uh yeah I'm going to go
I'm going to go get started on that now
see you later
