we will try to explore the relationship  of the human person and the environment.  

As you may already know, human beings  need to interact with the environment  

to obtain food, water, fuel, medicines,  building materials, and many other things.  

Advances in science and technology have helped  humans to benefit from the environment. However,  

along with drastic changes and developments,  

humans cause tremendous pollution  and various environmental damage.

In environment philosophy, human persons  are made aware of the natural environment  

and their place within it.

Environment philosophy is the discipline  that studies the moral relationship  

of the human beings with the  environment and its non-human content.

It is always argued that the human persons  are above all creatures because we are endowed  

with unique capacities and attributes.  

But how can we utilize these unique potentials  as we interact with the environment?

There are certain views that can help  us to understand the human person's  

relationship with the environment and  they are; the anthropocentric view,  

the cosmos centric view; and the theocentric view.

The anthropocentric view or anthropocentrism is a  philosophical viewpoint arguing that human beings  

are the central or most significant entities in  the world which gave them dominion over the earth.  

This is a basic belief embedded in many  western religions and philosophies.

Anthropocentrism regards humans as a separate from  and superior to nature and holds that human life  

has intrinsic value while other entities,  including animals, plants, minerals and  

natural resources, are just resources that may be  justifiably exploited for the benefit of mankind.

On the other hand, the cosmos centric view  indicates that human beings are a microcosm of the  

cosmos or we are a small version of the universe.  Therefore, the universe is reflected in us.  

What this means is that, when these natural  laws and cosmic patterns are tampered,  

the resulting imbalance will also  affect the balance within humans.  

It is a vision of reality that places the highest  importance or emphasis in the universe or nature  

as opposite to an anthropocentric vision  which strongly focuses on humankind  

as the most important element of existence.  Finally, the theocentric approach  

which refers to an understanding coming from  a religious interpretation that human persons  

are the stewards of God's creation.  This view pointed out that the center of  

all natural and supernatural reality is God alone.  All being, basically, initially and ultimately  

focuses around and in the transcendent God and  finds in Him the ultimate purpose of existence.  

To be theocentric means to live in a way that  puts God at the center of life or makes him the  

main focus of life. The theocentric view upholds  the idea that human persons are stewards of God's  

creation. To steward something means to manage or  to put something under your care. It is important  

to stress this purpose of human beings in order to  prevent the tendency of interpreting the scripture  

as a welcome note to dominate and completely  lord over the environment. At present,  

we cannot deny the fact that human beings have  caused terrible changes to the environment.  

Human activities should be altered with more  environment friendly undertakings. The impact of  

mining, water pollution, environmental disasters,  desertification, improper waste disposal,  

soil erosion and overpopulation are all  results of thoughtless human activities  

as they try to attain technological advancements.  If these circumstances will not be addressed
