alayum
ald
every year I choose a topic in order to
discuss every single day between the
four and the four this year's theme this
year's topic is going to be quranic
wisdoms quranic maxims and wisdoms and
today will be an introductory lecture
about the reality of wisdoms and its
relationship with the Quran when our
father ibraim was building the Kaa he
made a Dua to Allah subhah wa tala and
he said
oh Allah from my progeny I want you to
send a messenger this Messenger will
teach them the book and wisdom Alik the
prophet
ibraim asks Allah to send a nebbi that
will be teaching wisdom to Mankind and
when Allah sent our prophet sallallahu
alaihi wasallam how did he describe
him when Allah describes the prophet
sallallah alai wasam he uses the same
phrase and he says Allah has sent you a
prophet from amongst yourselves that
Prophet is teaching you the book and
he's teaching you wisdom ALK so Allah is
mentioning the Quran and the prophet
sallallah Ali wasam is coming with
wisdom when Allah speaks to our mothers
the wives of the Prophet sallallahu
alaihi wasallam what does he say to
them remember oh mothers of the
Believers remember what is recited in
your houses of the verses of Allah and
of the wisdom of
Allah once again the concept of hikma
and our mothers are being told think
about the wisdom think about the hikma
and Allah subhah waala tells the
Believers as well in the
Quran
remember and remember the verses of
Allah and the hikma or the wisdom of
Allah subhah wa taala so what is this
concept of hikma the word hikma comes
from the
Arabic and it's a very interesting word
because the real meaning of h is to
control and that's why all the Arabs
know what do you call a ruler Hakim
so the ruler is called and wisdom isk
what is the relationship between ruler
and wisdom because frankly many rulers
don't have wisdom right so why is ruler
coming from the same concept as wisdom
because this is very profound just like
theim controls the people politically so
too wisdom controls you ethically and
morally just like theim controls with
law controls with the army hikma
controls with knowledge so the root of
hikma is to control and hikma is the
knowledge that controls you from acting
foolishly so this is why Allah is
telling us to learn hikma now what what
does hikma imply in the Quran and Sunnah
IB Abbas made an interesting Abbas said
hikma is to act correctly upon a correct
knowledge in the correct time and in the
correct method in other words you know
the truth you act upon the truth and you
do it in the right time and the right
place that is what hikma is so where do
we learn hikma from hikma obviously has
many sources and obviously all of them
go back to Allah and Allah gives hikma
directly and Allah gives hikma
indirectly once again hikma is direct
and hikma is indirect by direct I mean
you have it you didn't do anything Allah
gave it to you Allah says in the
Quran
what we gave
Allah chooses people to give
to we gave wisdom even as a child we
gave Isa wisdom even as a child so this
is direct wisdom from Allah but you can
also attempt to acquire wisdom and Allah
might give it to you indirectly as well
how does one acquire wisdom three points
we'll mention today number one wisdom is
acquired from the knowledge of the Quran
and the Sunnah and this is what we're
going to be doing in this series over
here wisdom is acquired by studying the
Quran that's why Allah Asel mentions the
Quran has the Quran has verses and
wisdom and Allah says to the wives of
the Prophet remember what wisdom was
taught in your households so turning to
the Quran and the Sunnah of the prophet
sallallah alaihi wasam and learning is
wisdom the prophet said to AB he made
Dua to
Allah oh Allah teach him wisdom and and
this means teach him the Quran and the
interpretation of the Quran so the First
Source ofma that you can try to obtain
remember the actual source is Allah
Allah can give it to you without asking
but what if you don't have it you want
to acquire it you ask Allah and then you
undertake a journey the first step of
that Journey learning our tradition the
Quran and the Sunnah is the ultimate
hikma the second to apply Islamic
rulings in your life will bless you with
wisdom this is a profound point when you
act like a Muslim live like a Muslim
when you absorb the ethical values of
Islam and start acting in accordance
with those values Allah will give you
wisdom Allah says in the
Quran when he rose up as a young man he
was raised up and he was firm he was
straight as a young man this is M when M
acted like a good man when he was
learning Islam and then implementing it
it when he had in his like in his
childhood ethical values we gave him
wisdom what this shows us is that living
your life like a good Muslim will allow
you to acquire wisdom and by the way
this is very simple and true the Shar
tells you Haram and Halal when you apply
the Haram and Halal you are applying
wisdom in your life and you are acting
with wisdom so automatically you will
gain more with wisdom you will restrain
yourself from what you want to do
because you know it is unwise and so by
living your life as a Muslim you will
actually become wise this is the second
mechanism and then the third wisdom is
also found anywhere and everywhere
wisdom is found amongst people who don't
believe in God wisdom is found as the
famous said it is possible an utter Jah
will teach you wisdom simply by your
interacting he doesn't know it's wisdom
but you will acquire wisdom from him
wisdom can be found in the creation from
animals even it can be found in people
who are researching any topic and this
is why we have a Hadith it's is it
authentic or not it is mentioned
in some Scholars say it's not an
authentic Hadith it's from a sahi even
if it's from a sahabi the concept is
valid and we find it
ined and other books
of wisdom is the Lost item of the
believer wherever he finds it he will
take it so this is a statement
attributed to the prophet wasallam it
might not be coming from it it could be
coming from a companion but the concept
is valid what is this concept whereever
you find wisdom you should acquire it
and we learned this from the S as well
the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
benefited from the experiences of
non-muslims benefited from the knowledge
of non-muslims and he benefited and he
told told us specific things about
knowledge that he benefited from them as
I've explained in other lectures so
these are three sources of hikma number
one studying the Quran and Sunnah number
two living your life and applying the
teachings of the Shar and number three
any other source that has wisdom and we
conclude with a very profound point and
that is Allah himself is Al and Allah
is and Allah subhah waala is the source
ofk Allah's name Al
means that allk comes from him and Allah
subhah wa tala has described himself
with wisdom and Allah's actions are wise
and Allah's Revelation is wise and so
ultimate wisdom comes from Allah subhah
wa taala and so when Allah describes the
Quran what phrase does he use to
describe the Quran the Quran is
described as
hik the most profound wisdom this is the
description of the Quran
the Quran is the utmost wisdom and so
this series which we're beginning today
we're going to be taking phrases from
the Quran that are wise phrases the
whole Quran is wise but there are
certain phrases we can benefit from even
more we're going to be taking every uh
day one particular phrase one particular
snippet and we're going to be explaining
what the wisdom we can derive from the
Quran is may Allah subhah wa taala bless
us with wisdom may Allah subhah wa
ta'ala allow the Quran to be a source of
wisdom and and guidance for us and we
will continue
