Basic Configuration tasks in Windows Server 2019
Summary
TLDRThis tutorial video guides viewers through the essential configuration steps for a newly installed Windows Server 2019 on Oracle VM VirtualBox. The process includes updating the system, setting the correct time zone for UTC +5:30, assigning a static IP address (172.168.2.5 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and gateway 172.168.2.1), enabling Remote Desktop for remote management, and renaming the server to WS2k-19-DC01 in preparation for promoting it to a domain controller in a forthcoming video. The video ensures viewers are equipped with a foundational setup before advancing to more complex network configurations.

Transcripts
hello everyone welcome to amazake
webcast in this video we're going to see
what are the basic configuration tasks
that we need to perform after installing
Windows Server 2019 in the last video
demonstration we have installed Windows
Server 2019 in our Oracle VM VirtualBox
now we want to configure certain basic
tasks and then after we are going to
install Active Directory domain service
on our Windows Server 2019 so these are
the basic configuration tasks that we
want to perform on our newly install
Windows Server 2019
first we're going for the system update
then we will configure time zone after
that we will assign a static IP address
to our server then we will enable remote
desktop so we can remotely manage our
server and in the last step we will
rename our server so let's see how we
can perform this task on Windows Server
2019 let's go back to our virtual
machine as you can see we have a Windows
Server 2019 data center evolution
Edition install up and running in
VirtualBox
let's open saw manager and on a saw
manager console and going to click on
local server fine here you can see our
operating system version which is
Microsoft Windows Server 2019 and the
first task we are going for the system
update so here we have options for
Windows Update and that it is selected
download updates only using Windows
Update let's click on it then as you can
see Internet is connected to our virtual
machine let's click on check for updates
ok as you can see our system is up to
date last check today at 11:58 a.m. las
cruces console you can also open that
console by settings console as well
let's click on start button and let's
click on a settings icon here we have
options for up to 10 security last click
on it
and here we have the seam off since if
you want to check for the system update
for that you simply need to click on
check for update fine here we have a
some options for Advanced Settings
solace click on advanced absence and
update options are there so you can
change as per your requirement I'm going
to close it because our server is up to
date in the second task we are going to
setup times on so as you can see time
zone is currently set to UTC 8 double 0
it is according to facilities on US
Canada and right now I'm in India so I
want to change my time zone which is UTC
+ 5:30 so let's click on it and here we
have options to change time zone so
let's click on tacking and from this
drop down I'm going to select UTC + 530
Chennai Kolkata Mumbai New Delhi let's
click on ok and click on ok now as you
can see that information is not updated
here so if you want to update that
information here you need to click on a
refresh and now you can say time zone is
set to UDC plus 4 30 let's move to the
next step in that we are going to assign
static IP address to of a server let's
go back to our computer and here as you
can see under Ethernet it is set to
assign IP address from DHCP + click on
it that will open network connections
console where our adapter is there a
select our Ethernet adapter right click
on it and select properties we are only
going to use Internet Protocol version 4
so I am going to clear the check box for
Internet Protocol version 6
let's select Internet Protocol version 4
and click on properties as you can see
it is current to set to obtain IP
address automatically from DHCP server
we want to assign static IP address to
this computer that's why I'm going to
select use the following IP address here
I'm going to assign IP address 172 one
870 2.5
mask will be 255.255.255.0 and my
different gateway is 172 one 8.72 dot
one and my dns will be 170 to 180 72.5
and alternate DNS addresses 8.8.8.8
here i want to Manson one thing that
happens here preferred DNS server is set
to 170 to 180 72.5 as we don't have DNS
service installed on this computer right
now but in the next video we are
planning to install DNS service on the
server as well and in advance that's why
I have a sign of a local IP address as a
preferred DNS server let's click on OK
click on close and close this console
now that's a gain a hit on refresh
button and as you can see now our
computer is displaying Ethernet IP
address 170 to 180 72.5
our next task is unable a remote texture
so let's go back to soul manager and
here you can see remote management is by
default enabled that means you can
manage this server from other servers so
manager we also want to unable to remote
desktop so we can manage our server from
other computer as well by using a remote
desktop connection as click on disable
and here I'm going to select allow
remote connection to this computer it
will also add a remote next or firewall
exception to this computer as well as
click on ok click on apply and click on
OK that's again hit on refresh button
and here you can see remote extra face
and he pulled it now in the last step
we're going to rename our server we want
to assign one specific name instead of
you can see a one random name is there
so let's click on it click on change and
here under computer name I'm going to
assign a name that will be a W as to
k-19 - DC 0 1 why I am giving this name
W has took in 19 mins Windows Server
2000 19 and we want to promote this
server as a domain controller in the
next video that's why in advance
I'm giving the name DC 0 1 that is stand
for domain controller 0 1 so this name
will make sense a Windows Server 2000 19
domain controller number 1 let's click
on OK and we need to restart our
computer so let's click on OK click on
close and first I'm going to close so
manage here and then I'm going to click
on restart Now button after restart the
sprays control after delete key to
unlock this server let's press with the
password
one thing is there that you have noticed
that whenever you log into a Windows
Server 2019 computer some manager will
open automatically and that we don't
want so for that I'm going to click on
manage here we have a absence force all
manager properties and here I'm going to
select the check box do not starts all
manager automatically at logon let's
click on OK and as you know that already
I have pin the saw manager console to my
taskbar so whenever I required saw
manager that I'm simply I can click over
here and then I can open saw manager
let's click on local server and here you
can see compare name is there that we
have changed to WS 2k 19 - DC 0 1 we
have enabled remote desktop as you can
see here we have a sign 1 static IP
address 170 to 180 72.5 then we have
checked for update as well our system is
up to date and then we have changed
timezone as well so my current time zone
is UTC + 530 according to India region
so that was all about basic
configuration tasks that we can perform
after installing Windows Server 2019 in
the next video demonstration we are
going to promote this server as the
domain controller for a new forest thank
you all for watching this video
