Transcripts
if you've ordered a Tesla an exciting
day is ahead of you your delivery day
for many this is an incredibly exciting
day but the experience can also be
nerve-wracking ultimately leading to you
overlooking issues the car may have over
the years there have been plenty of
horror stories with people getting their
cars and noticing bad issues that are
unacceptable for Tesla to be delivering
but things have overall gotten better
with quality control in recent years the
hope is that a video like this
ultimately won't be necessary for most
people but for some it could save a huge
headache trying to get Tesla to fix
these issues that were present from day
one buying from Tesla is different than
a dealership since the car you ordered
gets assigned to you when you show up
for delivery that's the car and if
there's a problem you can't simply swap
it out that's why it's so important to
note any issues the car may have and
make an informed decision as to what you
will do about them so with that said
let's detail everything you want to look
over when it comes time to take delivery
of your
[Music]
Tesla Tesla's delivery process is very
streamlined at this point their app
walks you through every every step you
must complete in order to take delivery
they officially say quote after
providing your registration and delivery
details select whether you plan on
financing your new Tesla vehicle or if
you'd like to trade in your current
vehicle as your vehicle delivery
approaches you'll receive a notification
to complete your credit application and
submit your tradein self-inspection if
applicable for delivery scheduling
you'll be able to do that through the
app but will'll also receive an email
and text when the time comes through the
app you'll submit Insurance details
final payment your license and trade TR
in documents if applicable if you
finance through Tesla the process is
easy but going through self-arranged
financing does add a step most lenders
require the motor vehicle purchase
agreement which will be in the Tesla app
and then at this point almost all
lenders should know how to properly pay
Tesla for your purchase I have done this
before and it involved the credit union
sending Tesla the tracking number and a
scan of the final payment check after
Tesla received that proof I was able to
take delivery this does have to be taken
care of beforehand quote delivery cannot
take place until we receive the funding
in full as for delivery Tesla could have
you come pick up the car at a delivery
Center or plan to deliver the car to you
at home on top of that they may have a
service advisor there walking you
through the delivery steps or they may
simply have you unlock the car on your
own through the app I've actually had
pretty much every possible delivery
experience here my first Tesla was
delivered to my house for others I've
picked them up with an employee fully
walking me through an assisting and for
another I simply unlocked and did
everything from the app either way
here's what you'll want to bring with
you your driver's license insurance any
outstanding payment your phone with the
Tesla app on it the drivers being
registered to the car and a USBC phone
charging cable for testing if you're
extra picky too you could bring a
flashlight for inspecting certain areas
of the car to start with pretty
obviously ensure you have the right car
make sure the sticker matches the specs
you ordered and that the vent of your
car matches as well with such a digital
process at this point it's pretty hard
for Tesla to mess this up but 10 seconds
to check this definitely doesn't hurt
anything and it's it's far easier to get
anything fixed with Tesla employees at
the delivery Center than it would be to
call them later getting in touch with
Tesla is notoriously difficult then look
around the exterior of the car in
particular here first look at anything
that pops out to you personally does the
car look like a car should some people
really get bothered by panel gaps and
others don't what you're looking for are
any alignments that are out of the
ordinary that could cause issues like
rattles or trunk mouth functions in the
future look at all the doors open and
close them and ensure they function
properly they should close with without
a Rattle and shouldn't have any
difficulty opening then open and close
the trunk to ensure proper smooth
electronic operation open it with the
controls on the lift gate and then close
it with the button on the inside of that
door this will apply for all of Tesla's
vehicles from there open the front trunk
from the screen and then close it gently
you press down on both sides of the
Tesla logo and you should hear two
clicks next check the alignment of the
headlights is anything sticking out or
does anything have a big gap and there
shouldn't be any condensation inside the
light enclosures and Ure that the charge
port door on the left rear of the car
opens and closes properly and ensure
that it sits flush when closed a good
way to tell if something you think is
misaligned is indeed misaligned is just
to compare it to the other side of the
car some typical alignment issues with
Teslas come with the trunk front hood
charge port and possibly the doors
ultimately though if they don't bother
you and they don't cause functionality
issues it won't really be a problem the
reason to check these things though may
not be for you to decide to reject
delivery but for you to get these things
fixed by Tesla at pickup if possible
then look around for any issues with the
paint scratches Rock chips things like
that Tesla should and will fix these
things either at your delivery
appointment or with a service center
visit shortly after delivery if they are
problems it's just important that you
have them on record as being present at
delivery I had Rock chips in my 2020
model Y and then had a scratch near the
driver side door handle on my 2021 model
3 it was important to note these right
away and to have them fixed and they
buffed out those scratches at my
appointment depending on which Wheels
you have too you'll want to check there
for dings scratches or even curb rash
it's entirely possible that a Tesla
delivery employee did something to a
wheel when getting it parked for your
pickup so you want to check this is a
brand new car and it should be in brand
new condition no exceptions then comes
the glass Teslas are covered in glass so
check the windshield all four door
windows the rear glass and the glass
roof to ensure that it's aligned
reasonably well and is free of any
scratches or chips a chip could have
occurred during transportation and can
easily turn into a problem in the future
that splinters off after you have
ensured everything functions correctly
and looks good on the exterior then
comes the interior the inside of a Tesla
has been known to have certain tears
alignment issues and random Electronics
issues again most people won't be
affected here and these aren't issues
across the board but noting these issues
at delivery could save you a ton of time
if they occur to you first look at the
interior panel and headliner alignments
the headliners can sometimes sag not be
properly fastened or have misalignments
from front to back check on those to be
sure everything is within reason then
you can press a bit on door panels to
make sure everything is reasonably
secure it won't be crazy tight but it
shouldn't be extremely loose up front
ensure the dashboard sits correctly the
center armrest functions properly and
the center console drawer slides as it
should also double check the front seats
for any wrinkles or tears in the rear do
the same and then ensure for the model y
that those seats recline properly the
model 3 seats do not recline for both
cars fold the rear seats down manually
to ensure they fold flush and then lock
back into place once back up fold down
the center armrest to check for anything
there and check that it sits properly my
model 3 armrest doesn't feel like it
rests where it should and I should have
caught that at delivery again that's a
reminder of why it's so important to
note these things I was excited to get
the new model 3 refresh so it was pretty
easy to forget to check a hidden place
like that Center armrest which usually
isn't folded down you can also check
every seat belt to ensure they are
properly tightened in the trunk make
sure everything is aligned correctly no
panels are sagging the under storage
compartment functions as intended and
for the model y ensure that the cargo
cover works correctly and doesn't have
any damage even if this had a small gash
that you wouldn't really care much about
this is something Tesla should be able
to easily swap out so you should do that
after all this is not a budget car then
test the electronics everywhere hop into
the front seat play around with the
screen and start using steering wheel
controls the left scroll wheel should
pause and play media skip tracks and
control volume make sure to listen to
something here as well just to make sure
all of the speakers work around the car
I've never really heard of much issues
in this regard but you may catch
something the right scroll wheel when
pressed in a model y will start a voice
command and in the model 3 there is a
separate voice command button test your
blinkers with the left stock on the
model y or left side buttons on the
wheel of a model 3 then test your wipers
the wipers are initiated on screen or
with a button on the left stock and with
a button on the right side of the model
3 steering wheel then check everything
on the screen in general the screen
should be incredibly responsive just go
through different menus and settings
then open the trunk and front trunk from
the controls options ensure these work
properly then on screen you can engage
the settings for Mirror adjustments and
steering wheel adjustments play around
with these a tad to ensure they function
properly essentially we're looking for
any random electronic disconnections
here one option that should be on by
default is the blind spot cameras which
turn on with your turn signal so look to
make sure the feed works properly when
you engage the turn signal then click
the rear camera button on screen to
ensure the rear camera is properly
connected and functioning the wireless
phone charger under the screen should
work with almost all modern smartphones
so test that to ensure it charges your
phone then you can use your USBC cable
to plug into the USBC port in the center
console make sure it charges your phone
the glove box opens from the screen so
ensure it opens and latches properly the
glove box alignment can sometimes be a
bit iffy especially in a model y so look
out for that and note anything extreme
inside the glove box should be a
functioning usba a port along with an
included USB stick for Sentry mode
security Clips make sure that drive is
included there above you are dome lights
lights inside the sun visors and Hazards
give those each a quick test and then
you can briefly hop out to ensure all
lights around the car are working
properly when engaging your hazards both
front seats will have powered
adjustments so play around with those to
ensure all work properly and then test
all windows from all doors all four
windows from the driver's side then the
single buttons on all other doors the
door releases are also electronic on
these cars so you should check that the
buttons there work as well on each door
in the back seat there is a coat hanger
to check on each side along with a dome
light then for a model y you can ensure
the rear climate controls work and in a
model 3 you can ensure the rear Screen
Works just click through various menus
there and you'll be good to go back here
in both cars are two USBC ports as well
so take your USBC cable and ensure that
each one charges your phone properly
then for the model y the trunk has
buttons to fold the rear seats down use
these to make sure they properly fold
the rear seats sometimes these could
have an issue related to the electronics
or a seat alignment preventing them from
folding down automatically so it's
definitely a good one to check there are
many lights around a Tesla and while
you've already tested the hazards which
includes blinkers along with dome lights
you'll want to check the rest as well
these are controlled on screen so turn
on parking lights normal lights fog
lights if you have them and brights
along with brake lights this may require
some help from someone to engage the
brakes and see them in action outside
the car then there are certain interior
accent lights and lights in the glove
box and on the bottom of the doors so
just ensure that you can see them if
you're picking up during the day outside
these will be harder to see but you can
just cup your hand around them quickly
to check that they're on now depending
on the process at your particular
delivery Center you may need to accept
delivery and then inspect some of these
things but you should be able to request
that you do an inspection of everything
I just listed before taking delivery of
your car if you have a significant issue
or a significant number of issues that
you don't want to deal with and you know
wouldn't be present on a typical Tesla
then you can reject your delivery this
will be a sad day since you will now
have to wait again to get assigned
another Vin and take delivery then go
through this whole process again but
it's much better than simply taking
delivery of a car that will have issues
that bother you for some of these issues
depending on where you are picking up
you should be able to notify your Tesla
delivery adviser and have them fix the
issue right there often times you are
taking delivery at a combination
delivery Center and Service Center so
it's fairly convenient they'll take the
car for a couple minutes fix what's
wrong and then you don't have to make a
separate trip to a service center in
other cases you may need to schedule
service but having the issues noted by
delivery adviser will ensure Tesla knows
the issues are entirely their fault and
will be covered without question but as
I said earlier most people shouldn't
even have these issues Tesla has gotten
a lot better in recent years so you
shouldn't have any issues that need
fixing at delivery but if they do happen
you want to notice them and get them
taken care of quickly overall this is a
list of most of the steps to complete
when looking over your Tesla and
following this procedure should work
well for you at the same time you could
also just get in the car in each seat
and play around with everything you see
just look around touch everything press
every control and switch and make sure
all of it works you should be able to
press on or touch anything in the car
and have it stay together and function
as intended with that said it can be
very easy to get caught up in the
excitement or feel rushed by a delivery
adviser so taking a deep breath and
thinking back to this list could be
extremely helpful for you Tesla
generally has a rule that after delivery
if you notice issues within 3 days or
100 miles they will easily cover them at
a service center however this rule is
something I've heard sometimes and not
others also you may find yourself
driving over 100 miles very quickly in
your new car so that's why it's
important to note any problems as soon
as possible during your first drive
though is when you'll be able to notice
any problems with how the car drives
typically Tesla fit and finish issues
aren't really related to the driving of
the car itself but just note if you
notice anything there then the time
comes for accessories there are a ton of
great accessories to add to your Tesla
experience and for me I most recommend
all- weather floor mats a screen
protector and a removable front license
plate frame where required those are
linked below along with my full list of
best Tesla accessories if you were
someone who likes to prep in advance you
could actually order some of these
before you take delivery and install
them right away at your appointment or
just after or once you see the car and
see what things you want to improve on
you can just take it from there
hopefully this video was helpful for you
if you're about to take delivery of a
Tesla for some they will want to follow
every step of this procedure for others
there may just be a couple things that
they wouldn't have thought to check
either way it's always going to be a
good thing to give your new premium
vehicle a proper inspection it shouldn't
come with any issues and they should not
be accepted so you don't have to accept
them Tesla makes great cars but they
have been known to either not notice
issues or try to deliver them to
customers anyway I hope this video was
helpful for you and in the meantime if
you want to see all the best accessories
to get for your new Tesla you can check
out that video linked up here or in the
description below thanks so much for
watching and I'll see you on the next
one
