Outlines
🙏 Opening Prayer and Lesson Introduction
The speaker begins with a collective prayer, seeking divine guidance for understanding the lesson's relevance to the audience's lives. They express gratitude for the opportunity to gather and worship, and specifically thank a person named De for his previous teaching. The session's theme is introduced as part of a series on the confirmation of Jesus as God through his miracles.
🔍 The Purpose and Understanding of Miracles
The speaker delves into the nature of miracles, distinguishing true miracles from mere coincidences or expected outcomes. They emphasize that miracles are meant to reveal Jesus' divine identity, citing Nicodemus' recognition of Jesus' miracles as a sign of God's presence. The lesson aims to explore the miracles of Jesus, particularly focusing on the miracle performed on the Sabbath.
📜 Legalism and the Letter vs. Spirit of the Law
The concept of legalism is introduced, highlighting the difference between adhering to the letter of the law and grasping its spirit. The Pharisees are criticized for focusing on the law's letter, missing its deeper spiritual intent. The speaker illustrates this with a story about church rules and the importance of understanding the reason behind them rather than following them rigidly.
🌾 The Sabbath and the Plucking of Grain
The narrative recounts an event where Jesus and his disciples pluck and eat grain on the Sabbath, a seemingly work-related activity that the Pharisees challenge as being against the law. The speaker explains the historical and legal context of the Sabbath and the concept of work, contrasting the letter of the law with its spirit.
🚫 Sabbath Laws and the Pharisees' Criticism
The Pharisees accuse Jesus and his disciples of breaking the law by working on the Sabbath. The speaker discusses the Pharisees' interpretation of the law, which includes 39 categories of work, and how they use this to challenge Jesus. The response of Jesus, who aligns with the spirit rather than the letter of the law, is anticipated.
🤔 The Sabbath's True Purpose and Jesus' Authority
Jesus addresses the Pharisees' concerns by questioning the true purpose of the Sabbath and asserting his authority over it. 🤕 Healing on the Sabbath and the Pharisees' Plot
The lesson continues with an account of Jesus healing a man with a withered hand on the Sabbath. The Pharisees scrutinize this act for legal transgression, aiming to find fault in Jesus' actions. Despite their intentions, Jesus performs the miracle openly, demonstrating his power and the spirit of the law, which is to do good and save lives.
📖 The Sabbath's Intent and Jesus' Miracles
The speaker concludes by emphasizing Jesus' message about the Sabbath being a blessing, not a burden, and his role as the Lord of the Sabbath. They reflect on the Pharisees' legalistic approach and how Jesus' miracles serve as signs to reveal his divine nature and the true spirit of the law. The speaker encourages the audience to consider the spirit behind the laws and rules, rather than being bound by their literal interpretation.

times we ask you to bless them also for
it's in Jesus name we give this prayer
amen well once again good morning to all
the saints and once again I'm glad to be
back standing before you let me start
off by first of
all let me start off by first of all
thinking de bu for last week stepping in
the Gap and teaching the lesson he did a
fine job with it wonderful
job because truly I had the opportunity
to listen and to watch him teach and I I
might stole a few things from him that I
can use in my lesson planning but did a
great job with it which uh I had no
doubt about that uh because of the title
that's placed upon him as a Deon you
know one of the qualifications of a
diing is that you have to be apt to
teach and when it means apt to teach
that means you must have the ability to
stand forth and teach that's one of your
qualifications and he did a fine job
with that so I hope you had a good time
with him but now it's time to get back
to reality because I'm back and you're
stuck with me so we have a wonderful
lesson that's laid before us today we
are in the third lesson of a series of
Five Lessons that make up unit number
two and as we know this unit as all
units fall under the overall heading the
overall quarterly theme we have is that
is Jesus Is God and of course we have to
put a spin on that to we have also said
that God is Jesus because we've been
dealing with this thing we call the
Trinity but when we talk about Jesus as
God we know that we have to also have
confirmation of that other words how do
we confirm that and it's for this reason
why the LI the writer has entitled each
theme confirmed by such as our unit one
it was Jesus Is God and that is
confirmed by his power you remember over
death we had five lessons that dealt
with how Jesus distinctly had power over
this thing we call death that when
someone is considered to be passed on
when someone's considered to be deceased
someone's considered to be as we say
they have died Jesus is the only one
that can give that person life again now
of course we know when this Mortal body
that shall we say gives out on us uh and
it falls you could say the doctor can
revive you given a certain amount of
time they can revive you but when
someone has truly died that doctor
cannot put life or put the spirit back
into the body once that Spirit leaves
that is truly what you would call death
but if the spirit hasn't left yet God
has blessed do with the ability to
revive that mortal body to bring you
back around but only Christ only God can
give life back into that body those were
those Five Lessons but now we're in unit
number two and unit number two we're
dealing with Jesus Is God and is
confirmed by
what his mighty Miracles now we talked
about this thing few weeks to go about
about what is a miracle we said that if
you are in a situation let's say a dire
situation you could say and if you say
well I can see if this lines up with
this and this lines up with that and
this falls into place and it all comes
together you say oh that was a miracle
that's not a miracle because if you can
see it and you can see how it can come
to fruition and how it all comes about
that's no Miracle a miracle is when you
say I don't know how this thing going to
work out I don't I don't have a clue I
don't have a plan there's no way in fact
you would probably say that it can work
but some kind of way Lanny guess what
all those things come about you say that
had be God because it's only a miracle
that brought these things about but the
thing about these Miracles and the
lesson we've been studying keeping in
mind that the overall fact is is not the
miracle that we're talking about not the
action of the miracle it is actually the
result of why the miracle was done in
the first place because we've talked
about it Jesus did miracles for a reason
often times you would see whenever Jesus
did a miracle he would give these words
I do this unto you for a sign and a sign
is put there to show you something and
he's showing us that he is guess what
God he's showing us that he is the Son
of God he's showing us that he is God In
the Flesh that came down and dwell Among
Us so the only purpose for the miracle
was to show you something to prove to
you who he was you'll find that even a
man by the name of Nicodemus early on he
didn't recognize who Jesus was but he
recognized the power of miracle because
he said these words we know that no man
can do these Miracles unless God is with
him which he was right about that but he
hadn't got the contemplation in his mind
yet that guess what he's sitting right
before you it wasn't until later he
realized that truly this here is the Son
of God so this is the purpose of those
Miracles it's like how revend Jackson
would say about stues he say stues is
good story is very important but the
most important thing about the story he
said it's not the story it's the the
moral of the story other words why you
told the story in the first place what
is the meaning behind this and Jesus did
the Miracles for reasons he wasn't that
to show off he was doing the Miracles to
show you something so this what these
lessons have been are going going to
deal with for this particular unit all
five but today we're dealing with
what healing on the Sabbath Jesus showed
you mighty now Jesus did a might Miracle
here on the Sabbath day but with
understand what we're did with about
this healing on the Sabbath first of all
the Sabbath day itself you find the
Sabbath day originally wasn't called the
Sabbath day God didn't call it the
Sabbath day we say he did but he doesn't
look at scripture remember we talked
about the days of the week that
originally days of week they didn't have
any names God didn't get any names to
the days of the week all the days of the
week you'll find in today's world is
name out the idol and pagan gods God
called the days this and on the first
day
then on the second day then on the third
day then on the fourth day then on the
fifth day then on the sixth day and when
the seventh day came he said and the
seventh day shall be known unto you as a
Sabbath other words he was saying the
seventh day is not the Sabbath day but
it is a day of rest he said it shall be
known to you as a Sabbath as a sabatical
to take a break to cease from the labors
and the TOs of all your week's work and
he never actually called it the Sabbath
day as time went on man started calling
it the Sabbath day but God just called
it a day of rest a day of rest but also
guess what a day of worship where you
praise him for all that he has done for
you now what is going on with this
sabbath day that we find in this lesson
is that what the writer's dealing with
is I guess you call anybody heard this
term before
legalism it's one that use primarily
theology legalism anybody know what that
means they catch me f but what does
legalism
mean anybody ever heard that term
nobody's heard it good now I can teach
you on
it legalism is theology is basically
this legalism is those who follow the
letter of the law because it's all about
legal matters they follow the letter of
the law but they don't follow the spirit
of the law and there's a difference you
we talked about this before the letter
of the law is basically the wording and
they follow that exact word this is why
you find laws are written up so strange
uh because each time write a law
somebody can always find a loophole so
that's why you always see paragraph 8 of
section c of code so and so and they go
through all this fancy word and nobody
knows what they even say because people
will follow or lawyers will follow will
follow the letter of the law and not the
Spirit uh the best example I can give
you is one that we all know when you
talk about the letter of the law that's
like when your parents tell you don't
let me ever see you do that again that's
the letter of law don't you ever see you
do that again but then guess what
they're gone and you start doing that
thing and one of your siblings said
didn't mama say she don't ever see you
do that again and you said right she
don't ever want to see me do it again
she not around to see it so really
they'll fall in the letter of the law
but the spirit is what the spirit is the
tent that you never do it again not that
I have to see you do it again but people
will follow this thing called the letter
of law rather than the spirit of law and
the Pharisees were just that type they
followed the letter of the law but they
had lost the aspect of the spirit of the
law laws are good aren't
they yeah they serve a purpose and laws
will put in place keep in mind for a
purpose but often time we look at just
the letter of Law and don't go any
further than
that the writers here is telling us
about how Jesus you could say to a
certain degree is being judged by the
letter of the law but Jesus is speaking
now to the spirit of the law of why was
put in place in the first place but keep
in mind Jesus let you know too in later
writings he said I didn't come to
destroy the law but I came to do what
fulfill the law because they're looking
at the letter of it but Jesus always
concentrated upon
what the spirit of the law let me give
you an example y'all ready for this one
this might ruffle a few feathers but let
me put it this way are we adults yes
ah Helen Helen
Helen let me get my thoughts back
together H mess me
up but we are adults and as Believers
now I'm throwing that part in too as
Believers we supposed to be able to talk
and communicate as what as adults so one
of the best ways to illustrate something
of the Bible is always Ed what's called
practical application now what is
practical
application going once
going it's common sense but practical
application is this how you take what on
in the Bible and how it applies to your
life today so other words how does this
relate what you're talking today about
the letter and follow the spirit of the
law and so on let me give you this
example and will adults okay I'mma keep
stressing that as my disclaimer
dick and Jones I'm GNA use your name you
don't mind me doing that I'm use the
right sense because what you're going to
find is I'm speaking truth okay I'm
speaking truth here the other week first
Sunday I went to my neighbor here and I
said L just so you know first Sunday we
got a little bit of a change remember
that I said what we're going to do is
instead of we doing like we've been
doing when the pastor finished preaching
the Deacon and the Deacon is then when
he finish you know they come back down
they sit with the digging and the
dickness but sometime we have to wait
for them to get in place I said what
we're going to do now is when they sing
the last song before the pastor preaches
when he sings that song before he
preaches there everybody still on their
feet and still playing at that time
y'all ought to move out of the choir L
and come take your seats and it really
won't be much of a distraction or
disturbance and that way when the pastor
finish preaching everybody's already
guess what in
Place dick Jones says these words okay
that's good but you got to worry about
that he said cuz I'm not singing this
week he said because I didn't rehearse
right and he said we have a rule if you
don't rehearse you don't sing and guess
what he is 100% right with what he's
saying that is the rule that is the law
okay he was right with that now he told
me
this a while before let's say this
coming Sunday came up right all right
the following week one of our choirs not
this choir had a
rehearsal they had one rehearsal now
this is how it was explained to me
anyways so if I'm wrong we STI use as
example they had a rehearsal and at this
rehearsal one section was weak with some
of their members singing in a certain
section okay it was said don't worry
about it because they're going to be
here Sunday and they can fill in that
spot right the next comment was made no
they can't they wouldn't let Di and
Jones sing so now that's that remember
that that they I don't know what
committee this is they always around
they said that Jones couldn't
sing so they can't sing either well my
thoughts was nobody told dick and Jones
he couldn't sing dick and Jones said
himself I didn't rehearse so I'm not
singing
but they use that line I get it I
understand it but here's what they miss
out
on
rules you'll find in the church I always
put this way in the church you'll find
the rules are put in place to disciple
not to discipline you know we got to
have rules but sometime you have to look
at things with the spirit of it and why
it was put in place in this particular
instance the way I viewed it was this
you have a choir that's singing giving
God to praise right you only had one
rehearsal you sing songs you don't S A
Thousand Times all all old songs you
need people in this section cuz they're
not there but you're saying now because
you can't you w't hear you cannot
sing like
really can you would you do that but
they missed a point of why the rule was
put in place in the first place this is
how the rule came up look at your
history this rule came up years ago
because you'll find that when the choirs
would bring forth the music and people
would sing so sometime people wouldn't
rehearse and they would come and join in
the choir CU everybody wanted to be part
of the choir but they didn't sing the
issue you had with them not rehearsing
was sometimes guess what Milly they
didn't know the part they didn't know
what key they was in they didn't know
what octave they was in they didn't know
the timing of it or when you come in and
when you go out and that does what bring
the whole section brings the choir down
so the word was put in place see here we
we're positive and negative I want y'all
catch catch my SP WR words here the rule
was if you want to sing in the choir you
have to
rehearse but we say if you don't
rehearse you don't sing you see the
point the rule was put in place to
motivate you to want to be in the choir
so it said this Brenda if you want to be
in singing choir you have to rehearse
not if you're not here you can't
rehearse it's the spirit of it that you
have to follow not the letter of it so
in those particular situations you said
I can make an exception because we need
someone to help out but this is what
happen when you follow the letter of Law
and not the spirit of law now D Jones
you weren wrong what you were doing I'm
talking about this other situation that
came about you're like H if you look at
it that way you got to be careful with
those type things because people bring
something else out they would also tell
you this what I also heard one time too
that if you're going to be in our choir
you got to be in Sunday school or Bible
study I can look around right now and
tell you a whole lot of choir murmers
not
here you follow me so you what you have
to follow is the spirit of it not
totality in the legalism of it or
following the letter of the law this is
what Jesus was dealing with here we have
a Sabbath day but Jesus I'm get ahead of
myself what Jesus said I can do good or
do bad on this day which one is it but
they look at him and say you can't do
this why cuz it's
Sunday but we'll get deep in that as we
go along but the point of is Jesus was
trying to show you was this the Sabbath
doesn't rule me he said I have authority
over that of the Sabbath cuz what he was
dealing with was guess what the spirit
of things not the letter of it but as we
go along here our lesson starts off in
The Gospel According to Luke now in the
Bible we talk about categories of of the
books Matthew Mark and Luke are
considered to be the synop of gospels
okay they are called this because they
are similar in style and context of
writing each one of them would say you
could say to a certain degree the same
story but they would tell it in a
different way they might add something
to it but this one didn't say it but it
gives you more clarity so a story such
as this in Luke if you want the full
understanding of it you immediately know
oh it's Luke that's is not the gospel so
that must mean Matthew and Mark must say
similar things so what I'm getting at is
certain things I'm going to bring up you
might not find in this text but you will
find it in the Gospel According to Mark
and that of Matthew to get you the full
story but in Luke it starts off by
saying it came to pass on the second
Sabbath after the first now what you
have here is keep in mind as we go along
Jesus is speaking about all these things
on the Sabbath because remember you
could do a miracle right and a miracle
is done for what
purpose they believe but it's done also
to do what to show you something
remember keep that in mind always to
show you something Jesus said I do this
as a sign so Jesus want to prove
something you want to show you something
so speaking of sabbaths because if you
look at it it came to pass on the second
Sabbath after the
first certain things happen on these
three sabbaths now why is it three they
writing is a little different than what
we used to it says it came to pass on
the second Sabbath after the first see
the way they view things the second
Sabbath after first they had a first
Sabbath now this is the second Sabbath
after first there's two more after the
first one we wouldn't look at it that
way but that's how they write it it's
kind of like my younger brother used to
give us time of the days I don't know
where he would get his times from you
know it would be 8:15 and he said it's a
quarter before 8:30 you're like what you
know but he would say it that way you
just totally confuse us you know it's
it's a quarter past 8:30 what's a
quarter past 8:30 you know but that's
how he would speak but here what they're
speaking of is this is the second satday
after the 1 so basically saying three
sabbaths have gone on and what has
happened is if you read the chapter
before this each one of these Sabbath
days something went on that Jesus was
not supposed to be doing according to
the Pharisees in the out order of the
law keep that in mind but now we're
continuing on to get to these other
Sabbath but basically says here it came
to pass on the second Sabbath after the
first that he went through the corn
fields and his disciples plucked the
eels of corns and did eat rubbing them
in their hands so what the writer has
done is given us the illustration here
Jesus and his disciples are walking
along they come to a corn field they are
hungry now you might have see some of
these words in here look at the other
sop the gospel they say this as they
come out this cornfield that's when they
now need something to eat so they go get
the corn now actually yeah be pacific
here is not even corn uh what it is is
more of grain but they call everything
corn they they talk about having in the
hand they rub them together and then the
kernels come out and they would eat it
it was more like wheat or barley is what
they really add but they use the term
here of that of coins but they're going
along and they're hungry this field
they've gotten to keep in mind we doal
with the law to the law stated for those
who were strangers and those who were
traveling and those who became hungry
the farmers by law was to leave the edge
of the field the crops there they
couldn't Harvest those those for the
strangers The Travelers those who are
hungry and so on from there cuz keep in
mind you're traveling in their day you
don't say I'm getting off to Exit 4
going to Cracker
Barrel they didn't have that kind of
stuff so where do you get food from well
it was left there for them to gather at
that point so they could actually stop
and get food at that particular point
now as they're going along they come by
the
cornfield and they basically getting
food anything illegal about
that we wouldn't think anything illegal
about that but you dealing with the
Pharisees here and they phical order
that's considered illegal they look at
the day is you're doing what you're
working it was all about you couldn't
work or do anything that's called work
on the Sabbath day now here as far as
getting this corn once again was nothing
illegal they weren't like I'm G put us
on the spot like me and London back in
the day we was Bonnie and
Clyde they this little this little this
little sidebar we only had Tyler at this
point T about two or three years old we
would go to King Willam and you go to
King Willam everybody knows you going
see field after field after field after
field and they have corn fields it's
it's that that field corn not that sweet
white corn field corn but if you catch
the right time guess what country folks
that's some good corn well we're driving
along and every know tell I would
occasionally goes jump out the car grab
a couple years jump back in the car we
take
off we a think much love I tell you when
we stopped doing that I said we I'm in
trouble I get home but
we stopped doing it we driving one day
to King will as we're going around TI in
the back his little feet just sticking
out cuz he's two or three he go are we
getting
going we kept on going we said we we
teaching this kid the wrong thing you
know the wrong thing but here you find
what they doing is not illegal but the
Pharisees could sit it that way because
they bring this fact it say and certain
of the Pharisees now keep in mind we
tend to put Pharisees all in the same
category don't we all of are corrupt all
my bad new not all of them not all of
them majority of them but you find that
certain of them always would follow and
watch Jesus and they're watching him for
a purpose and these Pharisees said unto
them why do ye that which is not lawful
to do on the Sabbath days other words
they're saying now you are breaking the
law you are doing that which is illegal
see the Pharisees they came up with
pastor about to help me out here I think
they had like 39 laws and sub categories
under those stating what was work and
what wasn't work see I like to say it
this way God just left it to you be
common sense of what work and was not
work because he said no work on the
Sabbath and that was it but man then
says no this is what's work this is
what's work and this is not work they
had 39 things and categories within
those and then they would to have the
one they just pull out the thin air
because keep in mind they were the
religious Authority they would just come
up with laws at a whim and here they're
saying you're doing that which is
unlawful you are doing work on the
Sabbath now yes it could have been work
if they were
harvesting you know you're harvesting
crop they're not harvesting crop they
should know themselves by law if they
were hungry they could get enough just
to eat but they're not harvesting or
doing farm work but they say you're
doing that which is
illegal now we can somewhat understand
about laws diing Jones
mhm yep his disciples
did right Jesus didn't do it but keep in
mind who they want to get Jesus you know
because when even they said this certain
certain said unto them why do you that
which is not lawful to do in the Sabbath
days they talking about Jesus and his
disciples even though he didn't eat but
they want Jesus answered because they
know if I get the head oh the r going to
fall in line strike the shepherd and the
Sheep going to do what they going to
scatter but when it comes to laws you
know we can somewhat identify with to a
certain degree what's what's working
what's not work remember years ago y'all
old school folks all y'all old school
don't don't try to think you're not none
of y'all came up in the days of timeout
you know you had spanks and all that but
you remember they had the blue
laws remember blue laws certain places
couldn't be open I I
remember I remember because the family
reason they go you can't buy liquor on a
Sunday boy that was a bad one was they
they didn't care for that one you
couldn't buy liquor you couldn't sell
cars it was certain things that you
couldn't do on Sundays that they were
restricted to it uh Di and
Bush oh I'm GNA get to that in the
levitical
laws right
Jimmy mhm D that just said blue loss
yeah yeah you can do certain things and
then there certain things you supposed
to knew yourself that you didn't do you
don't cut grass on a Sunday right you do
any kind of work like
that none of that oh washing clothes let
me tell you this I came in mang hick Oak
area they just like brown gr everybody
know everybody everybody family let me
tell you Wallace we would go to church
and my grandmother's gxy 500 fold packed
in it like this we will come back down
the road Helen and let her see one of
her girls her friends with some clothes
on the line on
Sunday them cars back then didn't have
seat belts you know the big old bench
bucket seat we all slid to the dashboard
she slamming on brakes and she would
back up say y'all stay in the car and
she would go in there say Miss Maxine
you know good and well you don't have
clothes on a line on a
Sunday I don't care if the clothes was
soaking wet they better come off that
line because that were things that
people thought back then in the Jewish
culture their loss was just as absurd as
Di and Bush said you know they couldn't
prepare a meal on a Sunday on on their
Sabbath day which is satday but I'm
going say Sunday they would have to fix
the meal the day before because if you
prepared it on a Sunday they said you
were
working so in other words if you didn't
prepare dinner on
Sunday or Saturday night rather Sunday
you're going hungry because you couldn't
prepare a meal because they would called
it work and you are now breaking the law
they went as far as even using writing
attens so writing things out that was
breaking the
law all sorts of things such to that
y'all remember back here years ago no
restaurant was open on Sunday worthy
that's why you had those big family
Sunday dinners but now restaurants are
open and people go out but this is stuff
they're speaking of now when they say
you that which is unlawful you got these
men here who are hungry but yet you're
getting corn to eat you're breaking the
law dick and hole
M yeah a lot of things will work a lot
of
things well I'll throw one out you
before I go on the Pharisees themselves
could be considered of working let me
relate it to Sunday school di Bush they
can add H you can relate to this when
you teacher class you study don't you
throughout the week you're studying
you're applying yourself you're writing
your notes you're doing all these things
then you stand up here and present
it by that law you working they did that
every week themselves but they always
point to other folks and the things they
did but here they're speaking of now
you're doing that and certain other
Pharisees said unto them why do ye that
which is not lawful to do on the Sabbath
days other words you're breaking the law
by gathering food it say and Jesus
answering them said and Jesus answered
them because they just brought up what a
law we just talk about laws starting out
right and as an adult what does Jesus do
he responds but he responds in the right
way it's not no argument he's like wa
you brought this law stating that you
can't work on the Sabbath day so Jesus
said now as he responds back he said
have you not read so much as this other
way have you not read as little as this
now what he's doing here is that keep in
mind who is he speaking
to the Pharisees all right Jesus always
came at people on their level and what I
mean by that is if he was dealing with
someone as me who's uneducated in the
word is these men are he would come to
you in more of a uh down home manner
other words those of the lay other words
he would said to me you know a tree is
known by the fruit that it Bears I
understand exactly what he's speaking of
he said a tree that bears no fruit is is
no good just to be heed down and thrown
into the fire knows exactly what he
means when he speaks of hospitality he
said birds have Nest Fox have ho but the
son of man have nowhere to lay his head
he's saying a Christian has to rely on
the hospitality of others we get that
and that's how he would come at us but
always with the Pharisees the scrib the
so-call lawyers know what he would say
have you not read because they like let
say about me sometime I know scripture
but nothing else all they knew was
scripture so Jesus taught them about
what scripture he said have you not read
cuz all they did was read all day and
they knew the scripture he said have you
not read so much as this he says these
words so much as this what David did
when he himself was hungered and they
which were with
him a story that all them know very well
what he deals with is David now is the
anointed king of Israel but he doesn't
sit on the throne yet Saul is still King
David is kind of running for his life
with his men and David now is hungry
David needs something to eat but there's
a law about this eating once again the
letter of the law versus the spirit
because what he goes on to say here then
is that how he went into the house of
God now to speed things up I know my
time going to run out Jesus doing a
comparison here he says now how David
went into the house of God right also
look at Jesus Jesus went into let's say
the
cornfield do a comparison he said and
did tick and eat uh let me see how he
went into the house of God and take and
eat the showbread his men did what went
into the field gathered the corn or you
could say the grain itself and they did
what they ate it is what he's saying he
said how David did the same thing and
took the showbread the
showbread what it was was bread that was
offered to God as a you could say a
sacrificial offering but you know God
don't eat bread but at the end of the
day this Sanctified bread guess who
would eat it the priests and only the
priest could eat it that was the rule
this bread that's placed there is only
for the priests themselves to eat you
see he gave also to them that were with
them which is not lawful to eat but for
who
the priest
alone the priest alone the only ones can
eat this bread now keep in mind the
bread is considered to be I guess you
say special
significant but look at what Jesus is
saying here I guess give you example
what is this what is this made
of w what is this made
of
okay how do you view the
pulpit sacred it's holy how do you view
this
table and holy exactly but what is it in
reality what is it made of it's just a
piece of wood but we understand the
meaning of it okay if Di and Hayes here
right now is he would sit right there
every week he would say brother teacher
let me just say something he would say
these words that table and that pole pit
is no more sacred than the person who
stands behind it plain and simple it
just a piece of wood but you're not
throwing the law away we understand the
significance of it you you ought to
respect it but guess what it's just a
table you know we can leave here and go
to your house and sit your kitchen table
and have
communion it's the symbolism of it
that's what it's all about the symbolism
of it but other than that it's nothing
but wood we can give her this table
guess what have praying and put another
one up here now I'm not belittling the
table because we know the significance
of it but we don't idolize it to the
point that it rules over us this what
Jesus is getting to now how they got the
Sabbath now ruling over you and it was
not put in place to be their way this
bread for the priest sure it's set aside
only for the priest but it's just a
piece of bread that's all it is and
David in his position had power to go in
eat and also you'll find I get ahead of
myself if you read the scriptures the
priest also consulted with God was it
okay for these men to eat the bread it's
not in this text but is is in the later
text he says once again read through it
how he went into the house of God and
did eat and TI the showbread and gave
also to them that are with him which is
not lawful to eat but for the priest of
loone and he said unto them that the son
of man is Lord also of the Sabbath so
you let know the Sabbath day don't rule
over me I rule over it now keep in mind
he is the one who put it in place in the
first place because Jesus himself is God
but the beautiful part about this is
this when you look at the other not the
gospels before Jesus said that the son
of man is Lord also the Sabbath he gave
these words the Sabbath was made for man
not man for the Sabbath so he's showing
you now guess what the significance of
not the letter of law but the spirit of
law he said no this the rule doesn't
rule over me I rule over it the Sabbath
day was made for man not man for the
Sabbath you've twist this thing around
because you're so stuck up caught up in
your legalism that you missed the real
reason why they was put in place in the
first place other words they made the
Sabbath day now really a burden as long
as we talking this morning instead of a
blessing because you get up on Sunday
morning you say oh thank God God for
another day I got a day of rest got so
and so but the whole time looking over
your shoulder cuz if you walk too far
guess what it was considered work A man
was allow walk was so far in the day you
know there was many things that we
consider ordinary that you were not
allowed to do to the point that they're
looking over their shoulders am I
breaking the law so you made the Sabbath
day more of a burden than that of a
blessing and Jesus said the son of man
is Lord also of Sabbath and then it says
these words and it came to pass on a
what another Sabbath
now remember beginning of the lesson he
says the second Sabbath after the first
and what did I say events took place on
each one of those then you had this
event took place now he's talking about
another day on the Sabbath so you're
showing the Sabbath has it place and the
law has it place but guess what you got
to follow the spirit of it now keep in
mind he also said I didn't come to
destroy the law law and rules have to be
in place but understand the spirit
behind it don't make it way it's such a
burden as I said here rules in the
church I've always viewed them as rules
are not put in place in church for
discipline they're put in place for
discipling they're put in place to
encourage you to be a part of the
program but you understand we have
godines what you should maintain and
stay in to have order in the church
because what you said about God's house
everything must be done in dcy and in
order but as he goes on he said it came
to pass on another Sabbath that he
entered into the synagogue and taught
now this is nothing strange for Christ
Christ often would do this on one of
these other Sabbath we were talking
about
I didn't have time to go into it it said
he went back to where he was brought up
and as his custom was he went into the
synagogue and he stood up for it to read
and it was handed unto him in the book
of the prophet Isaiah he opened it and
found where it said the spirit of the
Lord is upon me he have anointed me to
preach the gospel to the poor the Blind
and so on from there and when he
finished the scripture he says and he
handed back to the priest and he sat
down and all eyes were fastened upon him
and he said this day this scripture is
fulfilled in your ears
know what you have going on here folks
like I said I know that day is Saturday
but I'm using Sunday forast for memory
sake here Jesus had a habit of every
Sabbath day guess what he doing Mike he
teaching Sunday school he says another
Sabbath he says another Sabbath that he
entered into the synagogue and he said
what
taught so he's in the Sunday school now
teaching something he would do every
single week and he's sh how beautiful
the Sabbath day is but look what happens
he said taught and there was a man whose
right hand was
withed the symbolism he giv here is that
he's in Sunday school he's teaching and
there's a man that has a a crippled hand
that he has an issue no problem it's not
life-threatening but he has a withered
hand but then it says and the scribes
and the Pharisees watched him whether he
would heal on the Sabbath now I'mma
pause there for a
moment Jesus is there doing what
teaching now keep in
mind this is a case of you would think
okay you would think that if a man is
Jesus who's teaching you be concentrate
upon what what thought what's going
through your mind Jesus
teaching what he teaching about you know
you ever had somebody powerful stand
before you and teach or preach you know
one of the Renown ones if you you I've
said on some of his teaching classes s
in front of
Kenny or have him even preach oh he
brings it with power and authority that
you sitting there just listen to every
word that's coming out of his mouth now
think about Jesus Dr Kenny don't even
begin to compare to this man Jesus is
the one he say talk with power and
authority and knowledge of scribes that
they looked at him they mared at the way
in which he bought it that all eyes were
were fasten upon him he's teaching the
word and you think your first thought is
let me hear think got to say but you got
people in the Sunday School going let me
see you going to do wrong then not
hearing a word he's saying they're
looking for fault with him you know I
can only use my weeks after day some of
Might now look at can walking back and
forth won't stand still they know they
recording this thing they a't going too
far you of camera range you know he
don't even have a tie on this more than
so on forgetting everything that's being
said because of one reason look what it
says it says and the scribes and the
Pharisees watched him whether he would
heal on the Sabbath day that they might
find an accusation against him they
there for one purpose just landed to
find something that they said ah we got
him remember Pon Palace said you only
arrested this man because of Envy Envy
is a form of jealousy Envy basically
means that you want what somebody else
have but you don't want them to have it
at all remember he Tau with power and
authority they wanted that but they
didn't want Jesus to have because guess
what now your competition I want to be
the only one out here that's heading
show above everybody else but this is
what you were dealing with they were
trying to find something they could say
we got him now look where he messed up
at the the worst part about this whole
thing is you would see as we going see
here he would do a miracle like bring
somebody back to life they go we got him
now he brought that man back back to
life on the Sabbath day you going didn't
you just see a dead man rise up oh we
not worried about that we just want to
kill this man you know but that's what
you're dealing with it said the scribes
and the Pharisees watched him whether he
would heal on the Sabbath day that they
might find an accusation against him but
he knew their
thoughts but he knew their thoughts
but here's the other part of it if you
look back at the synop of Gospels it
said these words first Jesus looked
around upon them with anger because of
the bitterness of their hearts other
words that made Jesus manad like don't
you see what's going on here we here
teaching about God's word saving people
and all you're trying to do is find
fault it said that it angered Jesus
because of the bsiness of the heart
because he knew their thoughts he might
look out there and see the disgust in
their face or as Jesus is being who he
is he knows what's going on in their
mind so when he sees it he said but he
knew that thoughts and said to the man
which had the withered hand he said rise
up and stand in the midst now there's a
situation here where Jesus calls A Man
Out imagine you have a crowd here I
started with a landing I'm I'm I'm stay
on Landing
today that's like saying Landing here
has a withered hand and I tell him stand
up but he didn't stood up look what it
says it says he said rise up and stand
forth in what in the midst so it's like
lny stand up don't you don't stand up he
said L stand up come over here stand
right here see Jesus knew what was going
on and he was tired of the foolishness
of the legalism of the Sabbath day okay
he want you follow the spirit of it so
he said come forth now and stand he me
he want all eyes to be upon them they're
trying to find an accusation and keep in
mind Jesus didn't hear hide anything
even when he was bought before uh I
think it was kaius at this time the high
priest they asked him about his
preaching he said ask these people here
they can tell you everything I did
remember they smacked him in his face
for they said how can you smack him when
he telling truth these are my Witnesses
so Jesus didn't hide anything he said
come up here I want you stand right here
in the midst so everybody can see this
and when the man stood up it says he
arose and stood forth so the dis man did
as Christ had commanded he's standing
forth it said then said Jesus unto
them now here's a trick on words I like
to do the man standing in the midst
Landing stand in front of everybody
you think Lanny is the key focuses don't
you because everybody looking at him
Jesus flipped this thing that man
standing before everybody oh he have to
focus of attention everybody else is the
Pharisees are CU what he says this then
said Jesus I will ask you one thing is
it
lawful is it lawful on the Sabbath day
to do good or do evil think about
it I'm going call Jimmy Taylor I can
pick on Jimmy too Jimmy Jimmy a Pharisee
back here right he's one in one5 Act
so this is how Jesus did it folks he
says lny stand forth in the midst he's
for everybody everybody got eyes on land
oh what's going to happen here he walks
up the landing he goes listen look at
Jimmy I got ask you one thing you see
you was on trial don't you he's on trial
you called him out now before everybody
CU Jesus said these words then said
Jesus unto them this the Pharisees I
will ask you one thing I told you each
and every time I stand for when you
teach I don't give you none of my words
I give you scripture as adults look at
it this what the scripture says Jesus
deal with the spirit of law he says I
ask you one thing he said this one thing
is it lawful on the Sabbath days to do
good or do evil to save life or
destroyed basically saying that's like a
man right now is dying on the Sabbath
day I can save him but you going what
the Sabbath day you can't save him
you're like are you telling me the truth
here have you lost your mind that's like
somebody there
has issue in the church and they fall
out somebody said call 911 said no ain't
call 911 don't people got to work come
here even know they supposed to work
anyway that's work you can't do it so
Jesus asked them a question what's what
do good evil to save life or destroy it
he's looking for a response of course
you know they don't respond it said to
save life or to Destra life it says and
looking round upon them all he said unto
the
man see before he does anything he mies
that statement he looks at all those
people
got nothing to say huh other scripture
find you said they didn't say a word and
when they say this look at how easily
this man is healed because I look at it
this way while Jesus is talking to them
the man's already healed see normally
Jesus would turn around and give a word
you know hand healed or touch him or
something look what happens it said then
Jesus said unto him I will ask you one
thing is it lawful on the Sabbath days
to do good or to do evil to save life or
destroy and looking
around about upon them all he said unto
the man stretch forth thy hand and he
did so and guess what it says and his
hand restored whole as the
other I love that part cuz it don't mean
say what Jesus said his hand is healed
he just said stretch forth your hand all
he was saying just bring his a miracle
show your hand that's all he was saying
he's talking to the Pharisees talking to
Jimmy over here getting the man a hard
time and he says now show me your hand
and the man go like this and his hand is
healed can you imagine the people
thoughts what was going on
then we it doesn't say we can imagine
what everybody else was thinking but
guess what Jimmy T and his boys was
doing they said they were filled with
Madness and commune one with another
what they might do to Jesus but see let
me go back to the other not the gospel
know what they said they were mad and
consumed they said how can we destroy
this man the other gospel said they were
mad and consumed they said how can we
kill this man he just was in the church
he healed the man before them all he say
is it wrong to do good or evil you tell
me they didn't tell him Jesus said put
your hand forth ly L came out Jimmy
going man we got to kill this friend now
he got to go that what Jesus is saying
but you go back what Jesus Says I Am
Lord over the Sabbath Sabbath don't rule
me others um not the gospel he said the
Sabbath was made for man man was not
made for the Sabbath I have not come to
destroy the law but to fulfill the law
so all Jesus is saying here in this
power Mighty Miracles he's showing you
that guess what you have to understand
there's a spirit behind the law and why
it's put in the first place there's a
spirit behind it when we talked about
the choirs earlier we tend to go
negative we say if you don't sing you
can't be in the choir originally it was
if you want to sing you need to come to
rehearsal but we in our thinking we
twist things and now we put it as a
burden upon folks with any kind of rules
rules find you don't the rules rule over
you but they put that for a purpose
speed liit says you can't go let's say
55
right and what we say oh they put it 55
give me a ticket that's why they got it
55 give me a ticket no it was put in
place it say slow down before you kill
yourself or kill somebody else there's
always a reason with why it's put into
place but we tend to lose the reason and
we're just following the letter of the
law and Jesus had taken enough from
these individuals with keep in mind you
go back first Sabbath two more Sabbath
this sabbath in the field now I'm in the
Church teaching and every time on sabath
day comes up I got these people standing
here want to throw these rules at me
it's like the the some folks who don't I
I would call it this way don't love
anything the church you seen those
movies and they'll a church movie and
they'll go where bylaw five of section T
says this and what is that doing in the
end good to have rules but often time
they use them guess what to be
oppressive to hold you down but God how
is not about that the laws and rules and
spirit of is put in place for one place
that's the bring forth discipleship
you're not trying to push people out
you're trying to bring them in and Jesus
said no this is what I'm trying I'm not
trying to destroy the law the laws are
good laws even the old laws remember he
said they were just and they had their
place but they do nothing to bring forth
your salvation but he said don't throw
them away that why he said I didn't come
to destroy them I've come to fulfill
them to give you the true meaning of why
these things are in place in the first
place but man tends to lose that the
Pharisees come up with 39 rules with
subcategories about what they call work
and Mike if you line up with one of
those they come with a new one on the
spot right on the spot they would put
that before you but here Jesus let you
know that guess what he is God by his
mighty Miracles he did this miracle of
healing and some people look at just the
healing but no no no Jesus teaching you
a lesson he did the Miracles for one
purpose he would always say I do this
unto you as a sign and signs only there
for one reason to show you something and
Jesus name is showing them that he is
the Son of God and that you have to
follow the spirit of the law rather than
the letter of law because it can be a
burdensome thing now next week our
lesson continues La the same concept it
deals with Jesus mighty power coming out
of Matthew now if we've come out of
Matthew keep in mind whatever's being
told by the story you can also find it
where in Mark yeah because there not the
gospel usually you'll find they'll tell
the same story but sometimes one will
add things that the other ones didn't
like I said the beautiful part of this
last not like the other gospels say not
that Jesus say I'm lord of the Sabbath
they also said that the Sabbath was made
for man it's put in place to be a
blessing not a burden he said man was
not made for the Sabbath you know let's
let's keep this thing in his proper
context in his order but next week once
again we're dealing with that of Jesus
mighty power coming of Matthew
22-36 but I would advise at least read
that whole chapter because many things
that are not printed in our text may be
part of a lesson to give us a clear
understanding of what it is we're
speaking about but now once again in my
closing I give Di and Bush props and
thanks for doing a fine job last week
with the lesson um I truly appreciate
him standing in the Gap there and we
applaud him for the hard work that he
does for us but with that being said
shall We rise to our feet and diging
Hall if you will give us a closing word
to bring us into the worship service
