πŸ‘« Choosing Friends for Eternity

The first paragraph emphasizes the importance of choosing friends wisely, as they will influence one's eternal destination, either Paradise or hellfire. It discusses the unique bonds formed through shared religious experiences like Hajj and Ramadan, and how loving someone for the sake of Allah is unlike any other kind of love. A touching story about Aisha (RA) is shared, where she reflects deeply on a Quranic verse about friends reuniting in Jannah and praising Allah for saving them from the torment of hellfire. The Prophet (PBUH) describes how friends who worshiped together will long for each other in Paradise, and will reflect on their moments of repentance and devotion that led them to Paradise.

05:00

🌟 Righteous Friendships in Paradise

This paragraph delves into the joy and significance of reuniting with righteous friends in Jannah. It explores how the people of Paradise, including sahabah, will reflect on their lives and the moments that brought them closer to Allah. They will reminisce about their past deeds, shared religious knowledge, and pious moments. Even in Jannah, they will continue discussing religious knowledge, with scholars imagining the joy of directly asking the Prophet (PBUH) and others about specific hadiths or events. This joy extends across generations, allowing companions to meet and discuss matters of faith in Paradise.

πŸ’§ Interceding for Friends in Hellfire

The third paragraph shifts focus to the fate of friends in different levels of Paradise or even hellfire. It discusses the concept of intercession, where some people in Paradise will help those in hellfire by pouring water on them, reviving them from their torment. These individuals, known as 'Al-Jahannamiyoon,' will eventually enter Paradise. The Prophet (PBUH) stresses the importance of being a righteous person who intercedes for others, rather than someone in need of intercession. The paragraph concludes by emphasizing the value of community and the importance of surrounding oneself with righteous people, while striving to save others and elevate one's own standing in Paradise.

Keywords

πŸ’‘Paradise

Paradise, or Jannah in Arabic, refers to the ultimate reward in the afterlife for those who have lived righteously according to Islamic teachings. In the script, it is depicted as a place where friends who worshipped Allah together reunite, reflect on their shared experiences, and enjoy eternal happiness. It emphasizes the importance of righteous companionship, as one's friends can influence whether they reach Paradise or not.

πŸ’‘Hellfire

Hellfire, or Jahannam in Arabic, is the place of punishment for those who have committed sins and disobeyed Allah’s commands. The script discusses the concept of friends potentially ending up in Hellfire due to their sins but also mentions intercession, where righteous friends may help save one another from Hellfire. It serves as a warning to be mindful of one’s companions and the influence they have on one’s faith and actions.

πŸ’‘Intercession

Intercession (Shafa'ah in Arabic) is the act of pleading or intervening on behalf of someone else to save them from punishment or elevate their status in the afterlife. In the script, it is highlighted that some people in Hellfire may be saved through the intercession of their righteous friends. This concept underscores the value of maintaining good company, as righteous friends may intercede for one another on the Day of Judgment.

πŸ’‘Righteous Friends

Righteous friends are those who encourage each other to worship Allah, stay away from sins, and follow the path of righteousness. The video emphasizes the significance of choosing righteous companions, as they can either lead one to Paradise or Hellfire. The script portrays such friends reminiscing in Paradise about their worldly acts of worship, showing that true companionship is one that helps one attain eternal happiness.

πŸ’‘Community (Jama'ah)

The term 'Jama'ah' refers to a community or congregation, especially one united by faith and shared religious practices. The script mentions the importance of adhering to the community and avoiding isolation, as being part of a righteous community provides strength, support, and protection against negative influences. It highlights that Shaytaan (Satan) is more likely to influence a person who is alone, thus stressing the need for communal support in striving for righteousness.

πŸ’‘Qur'an Recitation

Reciting the Qur'an is a form of worship that involves reading and reflecting on the verses of the holy text. In the script, Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) is described as repeatedly reciting a specific verse from Surah At-Tur, moved to tears by its meaning. This shows the deep emotional and spiritual connection believers have with the Qur'an, as well as its power to inspire fear of Allah and hope in His mercy.

πŸ’‘Mercy of Allah

The mercy of Allah refers to His compassion, forgiveness, and kindness toward His creation. It is a central theme in the script, as friends in Paradise reflect on how Allah’s mercy saved them from Hellfire and granted them entry into Paradise. This concept is used to illustrate that no one enters Paradise purely by their deeds but rather through Allah’s infinite mercy and grace.

πŸ’‘Shaytaan

Shaytaan (Satan) is the source of evil and temptation, seeking to lead believers away from the path of righteousness. The script cautions against isolation, as Shaytaan targets those who are alone and distant from the community. It suggests that maintaining strong ties with a righteous community can protect one from Shaytaan’s influence.

πŸ’‘Knowledge Circles

Knowledge circles are gatherings where Islamic teachings, such as Qur'an, Hadith, and Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), are discussed and studied. The Prophet (peace be upon him) described them as 'gardens of Paradise on earth.' The script portrays these circles as continuing in the afterlife, where scholars and students of knowledge enjoy discussing religious matters in Jannah. This emphasizes that the pursuit of knowledge is a lifelong and even eternal endeavor for the believers.

πŸ’‘Family and Generational Companionship

The script highlights that, just as families can span generations, so can friendships. Righteous friends who long for the company of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and his companions may find themselves united with them in Paradise. This illustrates that the bonds of faith transcend time and generations, allowing believers to reunite with those they loved and admired, even if they lived in different eras.

Highlights

A friend will drag you, either to Paradise or to hell fire, emphasizing the impact friends have on our ultimate destination.

The company we choose in this life is likely who we will be resurrected with and spend eternity with, underscoring the importance of choosing friends wisely.

Loving someone for the sake of Allah is unlike any other type of love, creating bonds that are deeper and more meaningful.

The touching story of 'Aisha radiAllahu Anha, who was deeply moved by the verses from Surah At-Tur, repeating them with tears and Du'a, showcases the profound impact of Qur'anic reflection.

The verse from Surah At-Tur (Qur'an 52:25-27) illustrates the moment when friends in Paradise recall their times in the world when they feared Allah together.

Friends who used to worship Allah together will long for one another in Paradise, and Allah will bring them together on couches where they can reminisce about their past lives.

The friendships in Paradise are not limited to contemporaries; one can meet and interact with companions from different generations, such as the Sahabah.

Righteous friends will continue their discussions about religious knowledge, Qur'an, and the Sunnah in Jannah, with the opportunity to ask the Prophet and the Sahabah directly.

Circles of knowledge are described as gardens of Paradise on earth, and in Jannah, these gatherings continue in actual gardens of Paradise.

Intercession is significant in the hereafter, with friends having the potential to intercede for one another, highlighting the importance of being someone who guides others to righteousness.

The Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam emphasized the value of adhering to the community (jama'ah) and warned against isolation, as Shaytaan targets those who are alone.

As-sahibu as-sahab

play00:02

im-ma elal Jannah

play00:03

wa im-ma elan-naar

play00:05

A friend will drag you

play00:07

either to Paradise or to hell fire.

play00:10

And the company we choose here

play00:12

will likely be who we are going to be resurrected with

play00:15

and who we end up spending eternity with.

play00:18

So choose your friends wisely

play00:19

doesn't just mean for the purpose of this world,

play00:22

in fact, to a greater extent, the next world.

play00:25

I always marvel at people that do Hajj together,

play00:28

or people that share Ramadan with each other,

play00:30

or people that share some sort of deep religious experience,

play00:33

and they create these bonds

play00:35

that are unlike the bonds of anything else.

play00:38

Because just like loving Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la

play00:41

is not like loving anyone else,

play00:43

loving someone for the sake of Allah

play00:45

is not like loving anyone else

play00:48

for the sake of anything else.

play01:03

Urwah ibn Zubair radiAllahu ta'ala Anhu

play01:04

has a very touching story about our mother,

play01:07

'Aisha radiAllahu Anha

play01:09

He says that,

play01:10

"One day, I went to visit Aisha, and she was my aunt,

play01:14

and I wanted to ask her some questions.

play01:17

And I found her standing up, praying,

play01:20

and she was reading Qur'an,

play01:23

and she was reading these ayats,

play01:25

and she would cry, and she would make Du'a.

play01:28

And she would repeat the ayat,

play01:30

and she'd cry, and she'd make Du'a.

play01:32

So they said that she was taking so long,

play01:34

that I told myself,

play01:35

'Let me go shop because I have some things to do.

play01:39

And then, I'll come back later when she's done.'"

play01:42

So he said,

play01:43

"I went to the souq,

play01:44

I did what I had to do,

play01:46

and I came back after a long time.

play01:48

And I found her reciting the exact same ayah.

play01:52

And it is an ayah from Surah At-Tur."

play01:55

Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la says,

play01:57

(Qur'an 52:25) Wa aqbala ba'duhum 'ala ba'din-yatasa aloon

play02:01

(Qur'an 52:26) Qaloo inna kunna qablu fee ahlina mushfiqeen

play02:05

(Qur'an 52:27) Famann-Allahu 'alaina wawaqaana

play02:08

'athaba-assamoon.

play02:09

So he heard

play02:10

'Aisha radiAllahu Anha

play02:12

reciting the last part of this.

play02:14

The ayah says that people start coming close to one another

play02:18

in Jannah and asking about each other.

play02:21

And they're curious if someone they loved made it

play02:23

and if someone is missing.

play02:25

And so they start to say

play02:26

that we remember before where we used to fear

play02:29

Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la

play02:31

together amongst our people.

play02:33

And Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la

play02:35

has been gracious to us

play02:36

and saved us from the torment of the fire.

play02:39

So 'Aisha radiAllahu Anha

play02:40

was repeating this last part over and over again,

play02:44

this conversation between friends in Jannah, where they say,

play02:48

"How merciful was Allah to us,

play02:51

when he pardoned us and freed us,

play02:53

as we used to be amongst our people,

play02:56

those that believed in

play02:57

Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la

play02:58

and feared Him."

play02:59

Indeed,

play03:00

we used to call upon

play03:01

Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la

play03:02

alone before.

play03:03

And we used to fear Him alone before.

play03:06

And Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la

play03:07

is truly most kind and most merciful.

play03:10

Friends that used to worship Allah together

play03:14

knew that they were strangers together in this dunya.

play03:16

And now,

play03:17

they're celebrating being the only people in Paradise

play03:21

because all of the people of Paradise

play03:24

are people who were righteous,

play03:25

even when they were in the midst of great wickedness.

play03:28

And so these conversations start to unfold.

play03:31

And the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, he said,

play03:33

"When the people of Paradise enter it,

play03:36

then friends that used to worship

play03:37

Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la together,

play03:39

they'll start to long for one another."

play03:42

And so what happens?

play03:43

The couch of one person

play03:45

will move to the couch of the other,

play03:47

and Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la

play03:49

will bring them close together.

play03:50

And they will meet reclining on their couches,

play03:53

remembering their days.

play03:55

And a person will say to his friend,

play03:57

"Do you know when

play03:58

Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la

play03:59

forgave us?

play04:00

When this was unlocked for us?"

play04:01

And the friend will reply,

play04:03

"On such and such day,

play04:05

and in such and such place,

play04:07

we called upon

play04:08

Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la

play04:08

and he forgave us."

play04:09

So as you're looking back with each other,

play04:12

what do you think was the moment?

play04:13

Was it Laylat-ul-Qadr?

play04:15

Was it the 27th night in the masjid together?

play04:17

Was it Hajj together?

play04:18

When was it that Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la

play04:20

forgave us?

play04:21

And you know exactly the moment, that in this dunya,

play04:24

Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la

play04:25

unlocked for you,

play04:26

the Jannah that you are now enjoying.

play04:29

In another narration,

play04:29

the Prophet SallAllahu 'Alaihi Wasallam said,

play04:31

"Among the delights of the people of Paradise

play04:34

will be that they visit one another on mounts and camels.

play04:38

And they'll be supplied with these noble horses with saddles

play04:41

that do not defecate or urinate.

play04:43

And they ride them wherever they want to

play04:46

by the mercy of

play04:46

Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la."

play04:48

And this is not just true for friends

play04:50

that lived as contemporaries,

play04:52

because just like there are families

play04:54

across generations that we spoke about,

play04:56

there are friends across generations as well.

play05:00

Have you loved the sahabah

play05:02

as if they were your own sahabah?

play05:04

As if they were your own companions?

play05:06

Now you get to go and visit them as you please.

play05:08

The sahabah that you used to long for,

play05:11

now, you long for them, and you see them.

play05:14

And what do the people talk about?

play05:15

What do these righteous friends talk about

play05:17

when they come together?

play05:18

Now, a lot of it is what they used to do.

play05:20

A lot of it is catching up on old memories.

play05:23

And that's part of the joy of the people of Paradise

play05:25

because certainly this isn't wickedness.

play05:27

Maybe they are reflecting on how they were

play05:29

before they got religious.

play05:31

And maybe they're just reflecting

play05:32

on old times and old jokes.

play05:35

But righteous friends also discuss things

play05:39

that they used to discuss in this life.

play05:41

And so, Ibn Qayyim Rahimahullah

play05:43

He says that,

play05:44

"Imagine the students of knowledge,

play05:46

the people that used to care so much

play05:48

about religious knowledge,

play05:50

continuing their discussions in Jannah."

play05:52

So you're trying to understand the Quran, and the Sunnah,

play05:55

certain Fiqhi things,

play05:57

certain episodes of the Seerah.

play05:59

You're trying to get all of that in Jannah together,

play06:01

and you're continuing that discussion there.

play06:03

Except now, when you want to know if a Hadith's authentic,

play06:06

you walk over to the narrator, who's literally right there.

play06:10

And if you want to know about an element of the Seerah

play06:12

go ask the Prophet SallAllahu 'Alaihi Wasallam

play06:13

or ask the person that it involves.

play06:15

It's just a part of their joy.

play06:18

Ibn Qayyim Rahimahullah said,

play06:20

"This type of discussion for people who love the

play06:22

Deen, people who love 'Ilm

play06:24

is the sweetest thing in this world.

play06:26

And now it's even better in Jannah."

play06:29

And he said,

play06:29

"That's only for the students of knowledge."

play06:32

And SubhanAllah,

play06:32

there's something very beautiful here

play06:34

that the Prophet SallAllahu 'Alaihi Wasallam said,

play06:35

"That circles of knowledge

play06:38

are gardens of paradise in this earth."

play06:40

And now, those circles of knowledge are continuing,

play06:43

literally, in the gardens of Paradise.

play06:46

Now, unlike family, when it comes to friends,

play06:49

sometimes you have some friends

play06:51

that are not just going to be on a different level

play06:54

in terms of Paradise,

play06:55

but you'll have some friends that are in hellfire.

play06:57

And it's not like you all get joined together

play07:00

by virtue of one person

play07:02

being in a particular part of Paradise.

play07:04

However, intercession is still a thing,

play07:07

and you want to be a person who is interceding,

play07:10

not being interceded for.

play07:13

And the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, he said,

play07:15

"That there are some people who will enter into hellfire,

play07:17

and they will remain there,

play07:19

never dying and never living.

play07:21

But there are others who will enter hellfire

play07:23

because of their sins,

play07:25

and they will be burnt inside

play07:26

of hellfire until they turn like coals.

play07:29

And then permission will be granted for shafa'ah,

play07:32

for intercession.

play07:33

And they will be brought out of it in groups,

play07:35

and they'll be spread over

play07:37

the side of the rivers of Paradise.

play07:40

And then it will be said,

play07:41

"Ya ahlul jannati afeedhu 'alayhim"

play07:44

"Oh, people of paradise, pour water on them."

play07:48

Some of the people of Paradise will come,

play07:50

and they'll pour water on those people.

play07:53

And they will grow like seeds in a valley after a flood.

play07:57

And the messenger of Allah, SallAllahu 'Alaihi Wasallam

play07:59

he said, "Verily,

play08:00

there are some people who will be brought out of the fire

play08:02

having been burnt all over except for their faces.

play08:05

And they will enter paradise

play08:07

with all traces of the fire removed

play08:09

after their friends pour water on them.

play08:12

And the people of Paradise will say,

play08:14

'These are the people of hell fire,

play08:16

who were brought out and admitted into Jannah.'"

play08:18

They are al jahannamiyoon.

play08:20

Now, SubhanAllah

play08:21

this is something very significant

play08:22

because it really speaks to this idea

play08:25

of pulling your friend out of a hard time.

play08:28

We talk about

play08:29

As-sahibu as-sahab

play08:30

A friend is someone who drags.

play08:32

Don't just be someone that hangs out with righteous people

play08:36

that can drag you right.

play08:38

But also think of how you can save others.

play08:41

And the reward, the tremendous reward,

play08:43

of being a source of hidayah,

play08:45

being a source of guidance for others,

play08:47

while seeking the best companions

play08:50

who are upon guidance your entire life,

play08:52

looking for the effect

play08:53

that they have upon you in this dunya,

play08:55

and looking for their possible intercessions

play08:58

to at least elevate you in Paradise.

play09:01

And that's why the Prophet SallAllahu 'Alaihi Wasallam said,

play09:03

"Adhere to the jama'ah

play09:04

adhere to the community, beware of separation.

play09:07

For indeed,

play09:08

Shaytaan

play09:09

is with the one who is alone,

play09:11

and he is further away from two.

play09:13

Whoever wants the best place in Paradise,

play09:15

then let him stick to the jama'ah,

play09:18

let him stick to the community.

play09:20

If you want the best companions of Paradise,

play09:23
