Why does the speaker feel frustrated about their doctor's advice?
-The speaker is frustrated because they were not informed that the autoimmune attack was still ongoing, leading to further destruction of their thyroid tissue over eight years.

in this video the three biggest mistakes
i've made for my hashimoto's
we all know that hindsight is 20 20.
however when i was recently asked the
question of what i would have done
differently had i known what i know now
i thought of the three biggest things
that really i would change
and i want to share those with you today
the first one was only listening to my
doctor when he gave me my hypothyroid
diagnosis
i
he was a medical authority right so
that's why i listened to him but i wish
i had done a little bit more research
instead of just listening to him when he
told me that medication or the
levothyroxine he had put me on was the
only thing that could be done had i
known that the autoimmune attack was
still going on in the background
attacking my thyroid i probably would
have done something to stop that rather
than going for eight more years with my
thyroid tissue being destroyed and
feeling the symptoms getting worse and
worse and worse over time to be fair i
was doing the best i could with the
resources and the knowledge that i had
however it's one of those things i
really really wish that i had known and
i still am so frustrated to this day
that i was not told this information
because of the fact that eight years
went by without me being able to do
anything about it so that's why i tell
you so that you don't do this as well
there are things that you can do beyond
just taking thyroid medication to help
your thyroid and on this channel i share
a lot of that diet lifestyle mindset are
the big pillars and the things that you
can do to start thriving with your
hashimoto's so speaking of diet that was
mistake number two
was not doing anything about my diet now
again i didn't know
and i was working with the resources and
the knowledge that i had however once i
went gluten-free and then i did the aip
diet eliminated a whole bunch of stuff
and methodically reintroduced things and
now eat my paleo-ish sort of diet i
realized just how much things like
gluten dairy corn and some other things
really do affect me but see there is no
one-size-fits-all diet for everyone so
it is one of those things that you have
to try out for yourself and find out
what affects you and what you thrive on
as well
however i really wish that i had done
this earlier because the difference it
made was so profound for me and while it
might seem like a really daunting task
to change your diet things have changed
so much over the last decade that there
are so many great products no matter
what diet you're on so i encourage you
to try it out to see if it makes a
difference for you as well and then as
for mistake number three it may be the
biggest one and the one that i've been
really working on the most lately and
that is not addressing my stress
management i've done a lot of surveys of
my audience over the years and one of
the things that i've really come to
realize is that a lot of people with
hashimoto's
tend to be the type a go-getters
always trying to get things done
uh perfectionist control freaks
does this sound familiar to you it's
definitely for me
however the problem with that is that it
keeps us in stress a lot and if you are
in the fight or flight immune system
response your body is primed to fight
the proverbial tiger that means all of
your immune system
actions and
all of that kind of stuff is primed to
run
to
hide to do all of the things to get away
but not to rest
to digest your food and get all those
nutrients into your body and to make
sure that all of your toxins are
released and all the tissues rebuilt and
your immune system is regulated so it
doesn't attack itself all of these
things don't happen when you are in the
stress response but when you're in the
rest and digest mode like that
that's when your body can start to
repair and heal and it will stop
attacking your thyroid tissue because it
can actually start to regulate and know
what it's supposed to do again stress
management just like diet is going to be
different for everyone
i personally really really am bad at
sitting and meditating very still when i
am agitated and stressed and feel like i
have a billion things to do that does
not help me however things like qigong
where it's like moving meditation that
really really has been helping me lately
eft tapping
is another one that really helps me to
process emotions and kind of get rid of
that stress and there's just so many
other things but like
find what works for you do not just try
one thing and say ah that's not gonna
work for me and give up just keep trying
because there are things out there that
really can help you and if you can do
things throughout the day all the better
because if you do one giant meditation
session at 7pm what about the whole rest
of the day when you had all these
stressful things come up if you can
figure out the tools that really work
for you in the moment to help you kind
of stop that stress response all the
better and then if you want to do a
meditation session later great because
that will help you in the long term try
to be able to deal with all of these
stressors a lot better however in the
moment if you can learn certain things
like breathing techniques
breathing deeply might work for you or
again tapping or
just maybe processing through emotions
in a certain way or things like that
that just can help you work through that
particular stressful moment
then you can really start to bring
yourself out of that fight or flight all
the time and that's where you really
will start to find healing on a
long-term basis
i really feel like
diet is one of those things that really
gets you out of that survival mode out
of that oh my god i am like dying i have
no idea what i'm doing i
am in so much pain and so tired and all
of that kind of stuff
gets you out of that but once you're in
the mode that you're feeling much better
and you want to have lasting awesomeness
then that's where stress management
really is going to come into play so to
recap the three biggest mistakes i've
made are only listening to my doctor and
not realizing that by only taking
thyroid medication and not doing
anything else i was continuing to
destroy my thyroid tissue and make
things worse
number two was not paying attention to
diet and realizing how much of a
difference my diet actually made in my
quality of life and my disease and
number three was not paying attention to
stress management and really really
getting out of that fight or flight all
of the time and trying to get more into
rest and digest as much as i possibly
can
by addressing all of these though i have
felt so much better and on a long term
basis i'm not doing that weird diet
yo-yo thing that i had been doing for a
little while where i would have these
big flares if i kind of let my diet go i
can actually digest more this summer
i've been able to have dairy ice cream a
few times which
i don't know if that's a permanent thing
for me but it's definitely encouraging
to know that i can have it every so
often and i do credit that's the stress
management part and
research has shown that the less stress
you are the better you are able to
digest things so who knows maybe this is
what i need to do in order to have a
even wider variety of diet but all of
this is to say that if i had not made
these mistakes i probably would not have
had such a severe case of hashimoto's
and been as exhausted and
all of the other terrible symptoms i had
and i probably would have had a mild
case and so my hope is for you that if
you do have a mild case you take this
advice to heart and don't get any worse
and if you do have a severe case there
is hope for you because
it worked for me if you want to know
more about my journey with hashimoto's
and what i recommend to start feeling
better and find relief from your
symptoms you can check out my
hashimoto's playlist right here and
otherwise i will be posting more videos
on my channel so make sure you subscribe
i'll see you later
