Apple have recently just announced iOS 18 and by the time you're watching this
you might have already installed it or it might be coming very very soon!
And I've been testing it on various different iPhones and some of the latest iPhones like
iPhone 15 or newer have a new Siri animation which looks pretty cool!
But even if you don't have the latest iPhone for example there's 10 things
that you guys need to know about the new iOS 18 Apple CarPlay...
Let's dive straight in!
[Music]
Now guys just before jumping into this list I wanted to clarify something very very quickly.
So earlier in the year when Apple announced iOS 18 at their Worldwide
Developers Conference they also announced a new thing coming to Apple called Apple Intelligence.
Now this is basically the new Siri and a load of AI features but it does seem to be only
compatible number one in certain countries around the world and iPhone 15 or newer.
Hence why I've got two iPhones with me today to make that comparison.
Right let's have a look!
So guys this is the new CarPlay....
So for the keen eyed viewer you'll notice that there's
a new wallpaper but yes we'll go through that in a minute!
But the first thing you'll notice that there is a new home button down there on the bottom right.
So yes that is this little square icon there and it used to be these kind of little dots.
So that's one small change I have also noticed as well and I can't remember
if the previous version did this but if you hold this button now it does bring up Siri.
So if you'd rather use the touchscreen instead
of using it kind of on the steering wheel or just saying you know the "Hey S" word.
Then you can do it that way as well.
So yes I mentioned there was a new wallpaper so this will be number
two let's go on settings into wallpaper and here are the four new wallpapers on iOS 18.
So I actually covered this earlier in the year when I had the iOS 18
Beta and they didn't have any wallpapers and I did
say I would love them to introduce them and yeah here are some new wallpapers!
Now one hidden thing I didn't realise is actually if you change the light
mode and dark mode annoyingly it doesn't change the icons but it does change the
gradients of the new wallpapers Apple have introduced on this new version.
So here's what they all look like if you cycle through them.
Now I personally keep mine on dark mode all the time but yeah again
let me know what your favourite is in the comments section down below.
I have also noticed as well that some of the older ones have now disappeared so I'm not sure why we
couldn't have kept those as well but hey it's good to see those new wallpapers although I wish Apple
let us just kind of import our own wallpaper because I think that would be really cool.
They let us obviously customize a lot of things on the new home screen and
that sort of thing on iOS 18 but for some reason we're stuck with using
these kind of preset wallpapers but yeah good to see that there's four new ones.
So yeah just to see what they look like that is that one,
number two number three, and finally number four.
But I think I'm going to leave it on the green and
blue one because that's that's quite nice it's a bit different.
Now if you're a fan of using Apple Maps there's a new design change on this one so if I go on
Apple Maps here you will see see that the POI's now have an almost like kind of glow to them.
So they look a little bit different to before, actually easier to read certainly when you're
driving around um you kind of got this like almost like outline throughout the text.
I haven't really noticed much more than that to be honest that's the
kind of only change I've seen but it's just basically like a design UI update.
Now the most important thing on iOS 18 certainly for iPhone 15 or newer will be the new Siri.
So there this is part of Apple's new Apple Intelligence and it kind of looks like this.
Now that does look really cool I love the kind of
outline around the entire screen much like the actual iPhone itself with this update.
If you have Apple Intelligence it looks like this on the phone and yeah it it looks really cool.
Annoyingly I haven't noticed any like major feature changes in
Siri I think it's pretty much the same on CarPlay.
There is one feature I've noticed you can do actually which I'll share with
you in a minute but yeah if there are load more features that come out over
the next few months or so I'll be sure to make a video on it.
So make sure you hit that subscribe button.
Hey Siri can you tell me a joke?
Siri: Did you hear about the marathon runners that started dating they're doing long distance!
Oh God that is they are so cheesy....it's just embarrassing!
To be fair my car's voice assistant jokes are even worse....tell me a joke!
Car: What has teeth but can't eat?
Car: A comb
Moving on!
So you might be wondering what it looks like if you
don't have say for example an iPhone 15 or newer.
And iNt basically does just look exactly the same just kind of a bit like that.
But yeah hopefully they might change it in the future but we'll have to wait and see!
There's also a slight design UI update for when you receive and send messages
through iMessage incorporating new Siri animation as well.
Quite nice as it allows you to see behind the text message reply and
just like the other times you use Siri it glows when you speak reacting to your voice.
Now another hidden update for iOS 18 is found in the Settings menu!
So if we go into Settings and then go down to Accessibility there is a few things in here that
may be useful so the first thing I noticed is down at the bottom on Sound Recognition:
"Using on device intelligence your iPhone will continuously listen to
try to detect certain sounds while connected to CarPlay.
So you have the choice on here of Car Horn or Sirens.
So I'd imagine this is more for anyone with like a hearing impairment and that sort of thing.
But yeah just in case you're driving along and
you can't hear a car horn or siren which I will admit are quite loud.
But yeah just in case you can't hear them the car can notify you
on the screen to let you know that it may have heard one of those sounds.
Very similar to accessibility functions on iPhone I've noticed you can have like
doorbell or smoke alarm and that sort of thing but obviously in the
car it's only limited to car horn and siren certainly on this iPhone anyway.
Now one of the new Siri commands I found and certainly I don't remember
this being on Apple CarPlay before but you can actually ping your lost devices.
So if you have anything on the Find My Network so iPhones,
Apple Watches, MacBook I guess might work.
AirTags you know keys, bag, wallet that sort of thing.
So say you've dropped I don't know your wallet
down there or something you should be able to Ping it!
Now I don't have an air tag in my wallet but I do have an Apple Watch on.
So....ping my Apple watch!
Siri: Looking for your Apple Watch Ultra.
Siri: It's nearby!
Siri: Pinging your Apple Apple watch Ultra now.
Yep there it is! Just in case you've lost it.
So yeah that's a new thing and it also locks it as well so let me log back into that.
So yeah a lot of cars these days have like keyless keys so they just need to be in the cars.
So maybe you've dropped them down your seat and you don't know where they are....
Wallets that sort of thing anything could have fallen down probably down the side of
the seats you can ping it just in case you've lost it so that's pretty good.
Now this next feature is quite useful this is Silent mode when CarPlay starts.
So if you go into settings there is a new thing in here called silent mode
basically this is for anyone who has like their ringer enabled on their
phone but they don't want it enabled when they're in the car on CarPlay.
I personally won't use this just because I have my phone on silent all the time but I do appreciate
potentially you don't want the phone buzzing and everything all buzzing while you're driving.
So you can go in here and mirror the iPhone silent
mode or just have it on silent mode all the time so that's pretty good!
Of course there's the usual one as well driving Focus you can have it
on do not disturb where you won't have any calls at all when you're on CarPlay.
So again that's quite useful if for example you just don't want to take
a call at all so I know there are a few people who potentially want to drive but
they just want to enjoy the media aspect of CarPlay and don't want any messages or
alerts or calls they just want to focus on driving and get those tunes going!
Now for the keen eyed viewer you will have noticed in
Setting and under Accessibility there were a few extra things.
So there's colour filters now I don't personally use any of these myself
although I have seen them on some games and things before but these are if you
need a red or green filter green and red filter or blue and yellow filter.
And you can even adjust the intensity and yeah
you can even make Apple CarPlay go grayscale which looks a bit weird.
Certainly if you need any of those and you can add these on and it'll
basically just adjust the colors ever so slightly just in case you need that.
But yeah there's bold text there and also thing called Voice Control so on here this
allows you to give commands to Apple CarPlay to basically use it without touchscreen (kind of).
So it's quite useful just in case you can't actually touch the screen again
for accessibility reasons and that sort of thing.
So yeah all welcome on that front just in case you need them good to see!
Now although this next feature technically isn't Apple CarPlay related I did want to
include it because technically it can work on CarPlay although
you would need to use your phone to actually access this feature.
So obviously please don't use your phone while driving because that's
not safe just stick with the kind of car multimedia systems and that sort of thing.
But there is a new thing on the iOS 18 that allows you to record your phone calls.
So for example if I load up my phone and say you go onto your phone and you want to call someone.
Let's just phone EE that's who I'm with.
Phone: Welcome to EE Buinesss....
Let's just turn that down for a second...
You'll notice that there's a new icon up there on the top left hand corner
of your phone and this allows you to record the phone call.
Now annoyingly this isn't on CarPlay it would be really cool if there was just an icon up there.
Not that I need to record calls myself but hey if there's a feature on the phone it would be
cool to have on CarPlay as well but yeah all you do is just tap the button there.
This call will be recorded.
Phone: This call will be recorded
And then starts recording just like that!
So records your voice and of course the other
person's voice all on there and then it's actually saved it in the notes.
Just like that in there so you can access it easily and obviously it does notify the
other person as well that there has been a call recording taking place.
But useful it would be good to see it on Apple
CarPlay as well but hey you can't have it all I guess.
And then the other cool thing that I've noticed is a thing called motion sickness.
Now again this isn't actually technically Apple CarPlay but it is quite useful in the car.
So if you are unfortunate enough to suffer from motion sickness whether
that's because you're looking down at something this is remaining stationary
but everything around you like the car is moving.
This can cause you to kind of be a bit dizzy in some scenarios.
So Apple have introduced this new thing where basically as you drive forwards
it will look a bit like this on your phone if you take a turn to the left
it will look like this and if you take a turn to the right it will look like this.
So interesting because I think that might actually help a lot with motion sickness but
hey if you need it then of course that is another feature for use in the car.
But yes if there are any more updates that come out you know over the next few months or so with
iOS 18 Apple CarPlay or even if there's some updates on Apple intelligence which allows you
to do a few more things with Siri I'll be sure to cover it in another video in the future.
So obviously guys make sure you hit that subscribe button so you don't miss out!
Now I know what you're thinking where is the next gen CarPlay the one that looks like this?
The one that takes over the whole dashboard in the car!
Because I remember Apple's announcement of it they said all these brands were
going to be implementing it somewhen and it's been like two or three years.
So I honestly don't know I I hope it's coming still in the future the latest development I
heard were that Aston Martin and Porsche were the only two brands doing something later this year.
I know it's getting close to Christmas now so well sort of
anyway it's September but you know what I mean.
Christmas does creep up on you really quickly but yeah if you're from Aston Martin or Porsche
and you know of a car that or any any car manufacturer if you know of this coming
out in your car or you know future model let me know my email addresses down below.
I would love to travel to you and feature it in a video because I'm
sure a lot of you guys watching would like to see it as well.
So yeah let me know but yeah until that day I can't wait
for the next gen CarPlay because it looks cool.
And even there was a video that Apple very recently where they talked about
the NextGen CarPlay and the ability to change fonts and things from a manufacturer point of
view to match their kind of aesthetics on the inside so they're really really pushing for it.
It's just manufacturers are being quite reluctant annoyingly so hey ho...
Well there we go then guys that concludes this week's video on iOS 18 Apple CarPlay updates!
So hopefully there'll be some more things coming soon!
If there are I will obviously keep you guys updated as always but in the meantime....
Oh looks so cool!
One more time love it!
Anyway guys thank you so much for watching hit that like
button hit that subscribe button and until next time see you then!
