đ Installing Debian Server Without a Desktop Environment
This paragraph introduces the video's focus on installing Debian Server using Proxmox, emphasizing the avoidance of a desktop environment for server installations. It guides viewers through the initial steps of the Debian installation process, including selecting language and location, setting the hostname and domain, and entering a root password. The narrator suggests using a strong password and provides a walkthrough for partitioning the disk and configuring the network settings. The key takeaway is the importance of deselecting the Debian desktop environment and genome to avoid a GUI, and installing the SSH server for remote management.
đ Completing the Debian Server Installation
The second paragraph concludes the video script by detailing the final steps of the Debian Server installation. It instructs viewers on how to select the correct drive for the bootloader installation, emphasizing the choice of the 'sda' drive and proceeding with the confirmation to install the bootloader. The paragraph wraps up by expressing hope that the viewers found the tutorial helpful for installing Debian Server on both bare metal and virtual machines. welcome to virtualize everything where
we strive to educate and inform the
viewer about technology and technology
related topics around the world of
virtualization tonight's video is going
to be about installing debian server
although we'll be using proxmox today as
you can see to install debian server
this video is less about how to install
debian server on your proxmox system
than it is just about how to install
debian server
now as you go through the installation
process of debian if you're not fully
paying attention and just intending on
using default installs for a quick
project it can be pretty daunting
because you get presented with a desktop
every single time
so
i thought it would be wise to make a
short little video about the steps i use
to install debian into a server version
so that you don't have to deal with a
desktop for future projects
alright so to get started we're going to
make a vm
again this video is less about how to do
it on proxmox although we'll be using
proxmox so i'm just going to buzz
through these steps quite quickly let's
go ahead and boot our vm and open our
console
now here at this screen we want to
select
install instead of graphical install by
hitting our down arrow and pressing
enter
so we selected english and united states
we also want to select american english
here
i'm going to leave the host name as
debian you can change this as you like
when once you've entered what you want
you can press enter the domain name you
can give whatever you desire i'm just
going to give it debian again
enter a root password i suggest not
using a six character like i am
and entering something a little bit more
strong
username
again is up to you but type it in and
press enter
where
in the central time zone so press enter
the default for this is going to be
the entire disk so that's what we're
going to select by pressing enter
and we can press enter again to select
the only drive that we have given it
if your system has more drives you're
going to want to select the appropriate
drive for the installation
all files in one partition is fine enter
and finish
select yes to write this to the disk
we're going to select no here
and again we're going to select the
united states
and the default will work fine here so
press enter again
we don't need to use an http proxy so
press tab and hit enter
we don't want to participate in the
survey so press enter for no
now this is the important part if we
don't get the right configuration set up
here we'll end up with a desktop
so the top two the debian desktop
environment
and genome
is both checked right now so we want to
press space
to decheck the debian desktop
environment as well as the genome
and now
i'm going to come down here and press
space again to install ssh server
because i plan on using this install for
so many projects that use ssh the choice
will be up to you whether or not you
want your ssh server i'm going to use it
at this point i can press enter and the
installation will begin
so before we go ahead and finish the
install i'd like to take a moment to
mention please remember to like share
and subscribe to virtualize everything
to help continue to bring virtualization
content to youtube
also consider supporting us by visiting
store.virtualizeeverything.com
alright
so
we want to use the grub bootloader so
we're going to highlight yes it should
be highlighted by default and press
enter
then we're going to highlight the sda
drive and then press enter again
press enter to continue
there you have it there is your first
install of debian server
i hope you enjoyed tonight's video and
found it helpful if you were having
problems installing debian server on
either a bare metal system or maybe in a
vm as always have a good night
