Outlines
🙏 The Spiritual Significance of Fasting
This paragraph introduces the video's theme of fasting as a spiritual practice and clarifies misconceptions about its inherent benefits. The speaker emphasizes that fasting alone does not equate to spiritual growth or holiness. Instead, they highlight the importance of understanding the true purpose of fasting as taught by Jesus in Matthew 6:16-18. The summary of this passage reveals that true fasting should be a private act between the individual and God, not a public display for recognition or praise from others.
🌟 The True Essence of Fasting
The second paragraph delves into the deeper meaning of fasting beyond physical abstinence from food. It references Isaiah 58:1-11 to illustrate that the most powerful form of fasting is not about self-denial but about serving others and seeking justice. The speaker explains that God prefers a fast that involves acts of compassion, such as feeding the hungry and clothing the naked, over one that is purely ritualistic. This type of fasting is described as a means to break the chains of wickedness and to genuinely seek God's favor.
🤔 The Paradox of Selfish Fasting
In this paragraph, the speaker contrasts the self-centered approach to fasting with the humble and merciful attitude that God desires. Drawing from Luke 18:9-14, the narrative highlights the Pharisee's self-righteous prayer and the tax collector's humble plea for mercy. knowledge
of our savior jesus if that's something
you're interested in make sure you
subscribe
and turn on those post notifications so
that you can be alerted every time i
post a brand new video
now with that being said the theme of
today's video is going to be this
fasting that moves the hand of god so
make sure you pay attention to this
video
watch it the whole way through i'm
pretty sure you've never heard fasting
explain like this
and i know that today's video is going
to be a great blessing to your life so
let's jump right into it
fasting that moves the hand of god
[Music]
now remember what are we talking about
fasting that moves the hand of god
now what is fasting fasting is
abstaining from something
and automatically when people think
about fasting the first thing they think
about
is abstaining from food but i want to
tell you this and this might come as a
great shock to many people
fasting in itself has no type of
spiritual benefits
let me repeat that one more time fasting
in itself
has no type of spiritual benefits
even though many people say it has many
physical benefits and that may be true
but i want to tell you in itself fasting
abstaining from food
has no type of spiritual benefits people
think if i fast
it's going to increase my faith if i
fast it's going to make me more holy
if i fast god is going to break the
chains of whatever might be keeping me
in bondage in my life
but i want to tell you that's not true
fasting in itself has
no type of spiritual benefits and i want
to read you something from the book of
matthew chapter 6
verse 16 through 18 i'm going to read
three chapters of the bible
that god is showing us what is the true
fasting what type of fasting does he
really want what type of fasting will
make you more holy
what type of fasting will give you more
faith what type of fasting will break
the chains of the bondages
of whatever might be keeping you down
what type of fasting moves
the hand of god so pay attention i know
this video is going to bless your life
matthew chapter 6 verse 16 through 18
jesus is speaking to a group of people
and they know
what fasting is abstaining from food but
they're doing it
all wrong the fasting that they're doing
is not honoring god
literally they're just going without
eating for no reason because fasting the
type of fasting they're doing
is not honoring the lord so let's read
matthew chapter 6
verse 16 through 18 look what the bible
says and when you fast
do not look gloomy like the hypocrites
for they disfigure their faces
that their fasting may be seen by others
so jesus
is exhorting the people and he's telling
them look when you fast
don't be like the hypocrites because
remember i was saying how fasting in
itself
has no type of spiritual benefits i want
to show you the type of fasting that
does have spiritual benefits
jesus is exhorting these people and he's
telling them when you fast
don't be like the hypocrites because
when they fast they want everybody else
to know that they're fasting
they want to look so holy in front of
everyone else i'm fasting
i've been fasting so many days i've been
fasting so many hours and they're
telling everyone that they're fasting
and they look so
they look so down and they look so pious
and they're like oh
i've been fasting and they want to look
holy in front of everybody else
look what jesus says about that truly i
say to you
they have received their reward what is
their reward their praise from people
people looking at them and admiring them
whoa you're so spiritual
whoa i can't believe you're fasting like
that whoa you're so godly
whoa you're so close to god jesus is
saying they have received their reward
the reward is the praise of people but
look what jesus tells them
but when you fast anoint your head wash
your face
that your fasting may not be seen by
others but by your father who sees in
secret
and your father who sees in secret will
reward you
so look what jesus is saying the type of
fasting that moves the hand of god the
first one that we're talking about
is the one that you do that's just
between you and god
the type of fasting that honors god is
the type of fasting that's just between
you and him
you're not doing it to look more holy
you're not doing it to get praise from
people
you're not doing it to look more
sanctified to receive glory from people
no
no no that's not the type of fasting
that moves the hand of god the fasting
that moves the hand of god is the one
that you do just between you and god
that nobody else even knows you're
fasting nobody else even can tell you're
fasting
he says the god who is in secret your
god who is in secret
who sees what is done in secret will
reward you
so number one what is the type of
fasting that moves the hand of god
the type of fasting that's just between
you and him you're not doing it to
receive praise from people
you're not doing it to receive glory
from people you're not doing it to look
more holy in front of people
you're doing it it's between you and god
you want something done in your life
and you're fasting and it's between you
and the lord the fasting done in secret
the fasting done for the honor and glory
of god he says
jesus says that's the type of fasting
that moves the hand of god
and god who sees in secret will reward
you
so let's keep reading i want to read you
something from the book of isaiah
and this is the type of fasting that
moves the hand of god so remember
the first type of fasting is the fasting
that's done in private between you and
god
nobody else has to know about it the
bible says god who sees in secret
will reward you because you're not doing
it for the glory and honor of people the
praise of people
you're doing it to honor god the second
type of fasting that moves the hand of
god
doesn't even involve food and this is
the greatest type of fasting i want to
let you know
the greatest type of fasting isn't
abstaining from food the greatest type
of fasting is the next two types of
fasting that we're going to be talking
about look what the bible says isaiah
chapter 58
verse 1 through 11 this is the greatest
most supreme type of fasting look what
the bible says
look what god is telling isaiah to speak
to his people he tells them
cry aloud do not hold back lift up your
voice like a trumpet
declare to my people their transgression
so exhort my people of their
transgression
to the house of jacob their sins yet
they seek me daily
they delight to know my ways as if they
were a nation that did righteousness god
is saying they pray to me every day they
seek me every day
they act like they're so holy as if they
were a nation that did the righteousness
that i seek
and did not forsake the judgment of
their god they asked me righteous
judgments
they delight to draw near to god we have
fasted and you see it not
why have we humbled ourselves and you
take no knowledge of it
so look what god is telling isaiah to
exhort his people he's saying look they
pray
they seek me they fast they act like
they're people who really want to honor
god
and then they even ask the question god
we're fasting we're humbling ourselves
in your presence
you take no notice of it and look what
god says
because they said we're fasting and
we're doing things for you
and look what god says about that behold
in the day of your fast
you seek your own pleasure god's telling
them look when you fast
it's not even about me it's all about
you it's all about looking more holier
it's all about you doing your own things
let me tell you something about fasting
if you ever do fast fasting is a time of
dedication to god
when you fast it should be to dedicate a
certain amount of time to god
and that's what god is bringing up to
their attention he's saying when you
fast
you seek your own pleasure you oppress
all your workers behold
you fast only to quarrel and to fight
and to hit with the wicked fists
fasting like yours this day will not
make your voice be heard on high he says
look when you fast you fight
you argue he says when you fast all you
do is argue and you fight with your
brothers that's all you do
he says you just fast to hit with a
wicked fist i remember a story of my dad
when he was recently saved
he said that one day he walked up to one
of his brothers in the lord and he
touched him on the shoulder to tell him
something
and the guy was praying and when my dad
taps him on the shoulder to let him know
something
the guy says hey man leave me alone
don't you know i'm praying
that's what god is talking about that
man was praying but he reacted in the
flesh
that's exactly what god is saying he's
saying you're fasting but your fasting
is
fake because you're fasting you're not
doing it for me you're fasting you're
doing it for yourself
you're doing it for your own pleasures
you're doing it to look holy and you're
doing it just to argue with people and
say i fast more than you
i see god more than you i fast so i'm
better than you i fast so i'm more
holier than you
gotta say nope your fasting is not
honoring me that's why i'm not hearing
you
that's why i'm not moving in your life
and look what god says
this is the type of fasting that moves
the hand of god look what he says
is such the fast that i choose a day for
a person to humble himself
is it to bow down his head like a reed
or to spread sackcloth and ashes under
him
will you call this a fast and a day
acceptable to the lord
god is saying you think fasting is
abstaining from food you think fasting
is looking humble
god is saying that's not the type of
fasting that moves my hand
look what he keeps saying isn't that
this the fast that i choose
to lose the bonds of wickedness so god
is saying this is the type of fast that
i want
to lose the bonds of wickedness in other
words to repent of sins
to help people who have fallen in sin to
help them get restored
to lose the bonds of wickedness to undo
the straps of the yoke
to let the oppressed go free and to
break every yoke
is it not to share your bread with the
hungry and bring the homeless poor into
your house
god is saying the true fasting that i
want is when you share your bread
the true fasting that i want is when you
help those who are less fortunate
that is the true fasting that's the true
fasting i want
and what type of fasting is this fasting
from pride
fasting from the sinful nature that's
the true fasting that god wants
fasting from greed fasting from jealousy
that's the true fasting god wants and
that's the type of fasting that moves
the hand of god
look what the bible keeps saying when
you see the naked to cover him
and do not hide yourself from your own
flesh he says when you see somebody who
needs something
help them and when you see somebody in
need don't ignore
them that's the type of fasting that god
wants
look what the bible keeps saying then
shall your light break forth like the
dawn
and your healing shall spring up
speedily your righteousness
shall go before you the glory of the
lord shall be your rear guard
then shall you call and the lord will
answer you shall cry and i will say
here i am if you take away the yoke from
your miss
the pointing of the finger and the
speaking of wickedness
if you pour yourself out for the hungry
and satisfy the desire of the afflicted
then shall your light rise in the
darkness and your gloom be as the noon
day
and the lord will guide you continually
and satisfy your desire in the scorched
places
and make your bones strong and you shall
be like a watered garden
like a spring of water whose waters do
not
fail so look what god is saying that's
the true fasting i want
when you feed the hungry when you clothe
those who don't have clothes
when you see someone in eating you don't
ignore them when you humble yourself
when you lose the bonds of wickedness in
other words the type of fasting that god
wants is a fasting that is not selfish
because he's reminding them when you
fast you're being selfish
you're fasting for your own purposes god
says do you really want me to move in
your life
do you want your light to shine in
darkness he says do you want to cry and
hear me say here i
am he says help those who are fallen
help those who are in need
help those who are trapped in sin and
feel like they can come out encourage
them help them stand back up god is
saying that is the type of fasting that
moves
my hand let's keep reading i want to
read you something else
look what the bible says in luke chapter
18 verse 9 through 14.
we're talking about fasting that moves
the hand of god look what the bible says
he also took this parable to some who
trusted in themselves remember
god is saying the type of fasting that i
don't want is a selfish fasting
look what he says because these people
were trusting in themselves they were
fasting for their own desires
he also told this parable to some who
trusted in themselves that they were
righteous and treated others with
contempt
remember what isaiah was saying he says
you fast for your own pleasures
you fast just to fight and to argue and
to hit with the wicked fists
that's exactly what jesus is saying in
the book of luke he's saying he told
this parable to people who thought they
were righteous
and treated others with contempt what
does that mean disrespect these people
were fasting every day
but they were the most disrespectful
people ever
they were the rudest people ever people
who fast oh i've been fasting so many
days oh i've been fasting so long
and they're rude and disrespectful let
me tell you their fasting is not
honoring god
because if the fasting that they were
doing was honoring god the fruits would
show in their life
what is the true fasting he wants not
just to abstain from food no no no
the true fasting that he wants is for us
to abstain from selfishness
to abstain from greed to abstain from
the sinful nature
that is the true fasting god wants look
at the parable he says
he says two men went up to the temple to
pray one of pharisee and the other
attacks collected
the pharisees standing by himself prayed
thus god i thank you
that i am not like other men
extortioners unjust
adulterous or even like this tax
collector i fast twice a week
i give tithes of all that i get but the
tax collector
standing far off will not even lift his
eyes to heaven but he hit his chest
saying god
be merciful to me a sinner jesus says
i tell you this man went down to his
house justified
rather than the other for everyone who
exalts himself
will be humbled but the one who humbles
himself will be exalted
so look what jesus is saying two people
in the temple one a pharisee i thank you
lord because i fast twice a week
i thank you lord because i give my
tithes i thank you lord because i do
everything right
and he's looking at this man in the
temple repenting of his sins and he says
i thank you lord
because i'm not like this sinner right
here i thank you lord because i'm so
good
god is saying that the other person was
just humbling himself
repenting of his sins and look what he
was doing lord forgive me have mercy
on me a sinner jesus said out of those
two people only one went home
justified guess who was the one that
went home justified the one that humbled
himself
the one that didn't depend on his own
good works to justify him
the one that was depending on god to
justify him that's the only one that
went home forgiven
i want to tell you true fasting is not
when you fast to look good in front of
other people
true fasting is not when you do it to
look holy in front of other people
to receive praise and glory from other
people true fasting
is when you fast from greed you fast
from selfishness
you fast from the ways of the flesh that
is true fasting
and also true fasting like the parable
that jesus said true fasting
is when you humble yourself and you
don't depend on your own righteousness
true
fasting is when you depend on god to
make you righteous and you ask him for
mercy
and you humble yourself in his presence
what is true fasting
not fasting necessarily from food true
fasting
is fasting from the ways of the sinful
nature i want to tell you if you fast
like that
that's the type of fasting that moves
the hand of god that's what the lord
tells us
i hope this video was a blessing to you
