to install debian into a server version

alright so to get started we're going to

make a vm

again this video is less about how to do

it on proxmox although we'll be using

proxmox so i'm just going to buzz

through these steps quite quickly let's

go ahead and boot our vm and open our

console

now here at this screen we want to

select

install instead of graphical install by

hitting our down arrow and pressing

enter

so we selected english and united states

we also want to select american english

here

i'm going to leave the host name as

debian you can change this as you like

when once you've entered what you want

you can press enter the domain name you

can give whatever you desire i'm just

going to give it debian again

enter a root password i suggest not

using a six character like i am

and entering something a little bit more

strong

username

again is up to you but type it in and

press enter

where

in the central time zone so press enter

the default for this is going to be

the entire disk so that's what we're

going to select by pressing enter

and we can press enter again to select

the only drive that we have given it

if your system has more drives you're

going to want to select the appropriate

drive for the installation

all files in one partition is fine enter

and finish

select yes to write this to the disk

we're going to select no here

and again we're going to select the

united states

and the default will work fine here so

press enter again

we don't need to use an http proxy so

press tab and hit enter

we don't want to participate in the

survey so press enter for no

now this is the important part if we

don't get the right configuration set up

here we'll end up with a desktop

so the top two the debian desktop

environment

and genome

is both checked right now so we want to

press space

to decheck the debian desktop

environment as well as the genome

space again to install ssh server

because i plan on using this install for

so many projects that use ssh the choice

want your ssh server i'm going to use it
