お地蔵さんに手を合わせてはいけないタイミングと解釈について
Summary

Please share your story with us again today.
Yes, gladly.
Today's theme is about Jizo and spirits.
It probably depends on the type of Jizo, but I sometimes hear that the spirits of animals gather around Jizo statues.
So I've heard that people who pray to Jizo without knowing anything about it will be followed by spirits.
It may have something to do with the balance of yin and yang.
Some Jizo statues may be guarding us in places of high fortune.
On the other hand, I thought that perhaps some Jizo statues are places where wandering spirits gather.
How do you perceive Jizo?
I believe that it is not good to be trapped in such shapes and objects when thinking about Jizo and Buddha.
Why is Jizo being featured on YouTube now?
For example, there are Jizo statues enshrined at accident sites to appease the souls of those who died.
Or, there may be Jizo statues enshrined in places where disasters have occurred to calm them down.
There is a Jizo statue enshrined there to purify the land.
There is such a custom.
Jizo is originally a popular Buddha.
Jizo also plays a role in guiding the dead to paradise.
That is why Jizo does not wear glittering robes, but rather wears monk's robes like the ones I wear.
Jizo also has a shaved head.
Furthermore, Jizo holds a staff called a shakujo.
This is because the storehouse also acts as a guide.
Jizo is one of the most familiar beings who is close to living people.
Jizo acts as our guide and guides us.
Jizo guides us so that we can get to the afterlife without getting lost.
At the same time, Jizo Bodhisattva also saves us from the suffering of this world.
That is the Buddha who is closest to us.
That is why Jizo statues are enshrined everywhere.
There are also six Jizo statues called ROKUJIZO in the cemetery.
They are in charge of hell, hungry ghosts, animals, Asuras, heaven (paradise), and the human world.
These are called the six realms of reincarnation.
This means that Jizo statues always exist in the world of reincarnation.
Jizo is worshiped for these reasons as well.
It is also said that Jizo Bodhisattva is the transformed form of King Enma.
So, although Enma does not judge, he appears to be able to detect lies and pass judgment.
Enma decides whether we go to hell or paradise.
In that sense, Jizo is familiar to us, so they are enshrined everywhere.
In short, Jizo is a Buddha who is close by and protects us.
Recently, Jizo statues are sometimes enshrined at accident sites as a form of repose for the souls of those killed.
This is to ensure that those who die there do not remain there forever.
Jizo statues are also enshrined to purify the area and ensure that the accident never happens again.
That's why Jizo statues can be found all over the place.
However, there are urban legends such as "The Jizo statue here is not good" or "The Jizo statue over there is not good."
When something unpleasant happens in a certain place, people may even look at the Jizo statue there with disgust.
Some people find it disgusting if a Jizo statue that has deteriorated and lost its head happens to be located at an accident scene such as a tunnel.
I think these are all perspectives from our human perspective.
Jizo Bodhisattva does not fulfill such a role.
However, it is possible that strange things may possess Buddhist statues.
For example, a headless Jizo statue may be possessed by the spirit of a dead person.
Perhaps some Buddhist statues are possessed by something evil.
But it's basically what protects us.
There is a ritual called Kaigen Saho.
This is generally called the "Osinone-ire" ritual.
The act of placing the spirit in a grave or memorial tablet is called kaigen.
Kaigen is written with the kanji characters meaning "opening the eyes."
I believe that if a Jizo statue is descended with its eyes properly opened and consecrated, it will not be possessed by any evil or cursed spirits.
Some people say, "The Jizo here is good," while others say, "The Jizo here is not good, so don't worship it."
But I don't think that's right.
This is somewhat related to what you said last time.
In the end, I feel that it is important to live our lives with gratitude to Jizo.
Yes, that's why people in the past used to change the bibs of roadside Jizo statues.
In the past, people would knit hoods for Jizo to wear on his head and offer them as offerings.
Jizo is always nearby to protect us.
Indeed, when I was a child, I used to walk past Jizo statues on my way to school.
Japanese people live their daily lives protected by many Jizo statues.
Yet, we tend to forget this and get confused by false information.
Buddhas and Jizo statues can be found everywhere.
There are also mountain gods and rice field gods.
I think it was wonderful that the Japanese people prayed to these gods.
I feel that Japanese people, who are no longer able to do this, have become small-minded.
thank you.
