Transcripts
thanks to metri for sponsoring today's
video Let's address the elephant in the
room yes I have worn this dress for
about four of the five last YouTube
videos I've uploaded but I don't even
care because I love it so much almost as
much as I love some of the software and
apps I'm going to be sharing with you
today in this video technology has come
a long way and there's so many
incredible tools on the market at the
moment to help social media managers but
on the flip side there are almost too
many in that it can get really
overwhelming and it can be very easy to
wrap up a very Big Bill that you're
spending monthly on tools and various
different apps and subscriptions today
I'm going to be sharing my top five apps
that I think you need to get started as
a social media manager right now the
first piece of software is not going to
surprise any of my regular followers and
that is canva when I was introduced to
canva a few months into my side hustling
journey in 2019 it was a game Cher like
it blew my mind and I was someone who
had a little bit of a background in
using illustrator Adobe software and
still even for me it was so damn
confusing when I made the switch to
canva it was a total Game Changer so
easy for client Graphics Instagram
Graphics presentations those that have
my social media manager template bundle
will know that I use it for all my
services guide client proposals client
onboarding documents literally
everything is done in canva in my
business if you were to invest in
anything in your business at the moment
it would be the canva pro subscription
it is a little bit of an investment to
have all of the best features and canva
available on your account but I really
think it is worth it and I think the
next app is a great area where you can
save money and there are some apps that
have really good free versions and I
don't think Cana is one of those I think
you have a lot of restrictions so I do
think it's worth investing in the Pro
subscription first thing any social
media manager should buy which brings me
very nicely to the second piece of
software that I would recommend and it
is a software that has an incredible
free plan and yes you guessed it that is
metrical I have had a hate love
relationship with scheduling social
media posts since I started as a social
media manager and a big part of it was
because I didn't really feel like I
should be paying hundreds and hundreds
of dollars a month for a piece of
scheduling software when something like
the metab business Suite is a great free
alternative now metab business suite and
I also have a difficult relationship
because it's glitched on me quite a lot
so I was at the beginning of this year
starting to look into a scheduling
software that I could use across my
clients and for myself as I expanded and
looked to post on more platforms as a
goal for 2024 mitro has a free forever
plan which allows you to test out the
software and get a really good feel for
it it's also ideal for social media
managers who are may be just starting
with one client and you can use it for
free for that one client and as you grow
and add more Brands and more accounts
into your membership it will grow with
you as a social media manager I think
it's really important to create
boundaries with your phone and and
scrolling on social media and I love
that I can log into metrical and manage
all of my comments my DMs look at my
analytics the analytics will blow your
mind guys it's so interesting but I'm
also doing it in a really intentional
way instead of getting on my phone
getting distracted by other
notifications I can sit down on metrical
plan out content at the beginning of
each month on the first day of the month
I will schedule out all my content for
LinkedIn YouTube short Pinterest and I'm
also starting to introduce threads and
all of this content is just repurposed
for my Tik Tok and Instagram and it's
been incredible to see the results
especially on YouTube shorts I had a
viral YouTube short that was literally
one that I just sched and chucked up
there and put no effort into so I love
that I can get more out of my content
with metrical I can also bring on some
of my contractors under my account my
team member Hannah for example can
manage my Pinterest and add in all of
the graphics and cool stuff that she
creates for me for that platform I'm
also now rolling out metrical for my
first client and I am so excited to be
using it if you would like to try it out
I'm going to leave a link down below the
third piece of software that I would
recommend is something that is going to
help you send contracts and/ all
invoices the reason why have a couple of
software options here is because I think
it does vary country to Country for
example something like honey book or
dubsado can be really great for creating
those automated workflows a client signs
signs a contract they get sent an
invoice however for someone like me
honey book isn't available in New
Zealand so what I use is a combination
of panda do for electronic digital
contracts super easy for my clients to
just click and sign they also have quite
a lowcost entry level monthly
subscription and then I use that in
tandem with a software called zero which
keeps track of all of my accounting
however I did only invest in zero once I
was officially full-time in my business
to keep track of my expenses as a newbie
as a side Hustler I found it quite easy
I just set up a separate bank account
and that way I was able to see
everything coming in and out for the
business and kept that separate to my
personal expenses and personal like pay
for my full-time job I think as soon as
you start getting close to having to
file your annual return for your taxes
that is when having an app or a piece of
software like zero is super helpful
because it tracks everything it
cataloges everything and it just spits
out really easy profit and loss reports
for you a little note here if you a new
to social media management it is
actually really easy to get started
doing your own accounts especially if
you're operating as a soul Trader and a
soul proprietor I have an accountant now
because I'm a registered company but
that is something I did later on in my
journey once I'd had you know a proven
business model once I was making really
consistent money then I was able to
invest in a an accountant and that's
what's great about these pieces of
software is I think they really replace
the need for potentially having to hire
a contractor for example metrical can be
your version of a virtual assistant
Panda do zero can be your version of
having an accountant and even though
some of these pieces of software may
have you know a $10 $50 monthly fee
that's a lot cheaper than trying to hire
a human the fourth app I have to share
with you is something that again has a
fantastic free version I have been using
the free version for over a year now and
that is cap cut and I only recently
upgraded because I wanted to use this
green screen effect which was part of
the Pro Plan and now I'm looking at it
and thinking I could just use the green
screen effect in Tik Tok or Instagram so
I think I might unsubscribe because the
free version is so good and I really
recommend using a program like cap cut
for your video editing for yourself for
your clients because it is way less
glitchy and way more reliable than
something like Instagram do not edit an
Instagram real and save it in your
drafts I recently had all my drafts
deleted wiped for no reason I didn't
update the app or anything they just
disappeared and this happens a lot with
people I've also seen so many glitches
where like your text moves after you
post it or the music doesn't go in the
right place and it's just too it's too
glitchy which is why I love using
something like cap cut I also love using
a desktop version of cap cat so I can
edit faster on my laptop and bulk for
client work and I do personally also use
Premier Pro however I really wouldn't
recommend this for newbies it's a very
complicated piece of software the reason
I use it is because I studied using it
in one of my University papers and
obviously I've had this YouTube channel
for about 10 years so before cap cat was
around I started using um iMovie and
then I started using Final Cut Pro and
then eventually adob Premier Pro so I
had a lot of understanding of editing
cap cart I find is really intuitive and
great for beginners and really easy to
understand the fifth and final app you
are going to need is something for
organization and again I'm going to give
you a couple of different
recommendations so you can find one that
suits your style I personally started
out using Trello and this was where I
organized to-do lists I did content
planning I did content calendars for
clients as well and I used the free
version for just the entirety that I was
using it which I think was about 4 years
and the way I got around that was the
only barer was how many how big a video
file could be that I could upload I just
put it in a Google Drive and then link
the Google Drive in the Trello card so
it was really easy to work around that
from Trello I transitioned into using
clickup when I started working with more
contractors and I want some more
sophisticated tech for me clickup is
very similar to notion monday.com a lot
of those organizational task management
team management software as you see out
there and it's just it didn't work for
my brain like I'm a very visual person I
like to see pretty colors pretty images
and click up a notion for me uh very
like I I can only describe it as clicky
like everything needs a label everything
needs a date and it's all and you know
the standard kind of pages and designs
of very like numbers and text base so at
the beginning of this year I actually
switched from Trello and clickup cuz I
was still using the both cuz I couldn't
quite find the perfect software and I've
now switched across to Exiles which I
have done a video before previously on
how to make a Content calendar with
Exiles so I will link that above if you
are interested so that is going to be it
for today's video make sure you go check
out that link to metrial in the
description box below it's an amazing
piece of software and I'm really excited
to continue using it for myself and my
clients and thank you for watching to
the end of this video If if you guys
have any of your own software
recommendations please drop them into
the comments down below so that we can
all kind of share and learn from each
other I'm always looking for new things
that will help me run my business better
so let me know in the comments below I'd
love to hear and make sure you're
subscribed and I'll catch you in the
next video bye guys
