Transcripts
scared to share my content and worried
about what people will think and i want
to share with you what we've learned
because from linkedin and with our
agency we've been hitting 50 to 80k
months without spending a cent on ads
and we've nearly generated or we have
generated over 400 thousand dollars in
revenue and most of that can be traced
back to one linkedin post and i want to
share with you what i've learned from
posting on linkedin pretty much every
single day for the last eight months
let's get started
so we've been in business for about
eight months now and for a big chunk of
that we've been exploring linkedin as a
channel to generate network but to also
generate leads and sales and
interestingly a lot of our sales and a
lot of our leads can actually be traced
back to one or two different linkedin
posts that we did so why do we do
linkedin why did we start it we wanted
to build our own personal brand and
honestly i wish i started using linkedin
before i started the business and i wish
when i was in my career working for
other people that i was actually on
linkedin building my name and building
my reputation for funnels and legion and
sales etc before i started the business
i'd be so much further ahead but i think
a lot of us get scared to post on
linkedin because it's kind of a weird
platform where
people post some weird stuff on there
and it doesn't it's like is it
professional what should we be posting
and there's all of these different
things and most of us are just scared
about putting ourselves out there get i
get it i totally know and then it's like
okay if i do start posting on linkedin
what do i even post how can i even go
about this and how can i be consistent
it just seems a bit annoying but trust
me the payoff is immense and especially
if you just have your own like you have
your career and you need to build your
own personal brand it'll be huge for you
because it'll put you ahead of other
candidates who don't do this it helps
you to stand out and if you're in
business the linkedin has helped us with
pricing and positioning in the market as
well because people see that you know
your stuff and it brings you in and it
starts a conversation
and a lot of the leads that i talk to
are like oh i saw this on your youtube i
saw this on your linkedin and i'm
actually persuading them and educating
them for a high quality lead and
positioning myself as the authority by
providing a lot of value i'm gonna go
through the top things i've learned so
you can fast track your success on
linkedin as a platform okay
the first one is be authentic and it
sounds a little bit cliche you know be
authentic what does that even mean but
it's you on a platform it's still a
social media platform and you want to
talk in your own voice and you want to
talk about the things that you care
about don't be generic have an opinion
and don't be scared to be polarizing and
to say things maybe people won't agree
with and i think that's one of the
things that holds us back from pushing
ourselves to post on these platforms is
we're scared what somebody's going to
think or what somebody's going to say or
somebody's going to disagree or troll us
that's good who cares be polarizing
because the people that disagree with
your opinion there's a lot more that do
agree so it's important to try and find
your own voice and to talk well to write
like you would talk and so to do that
often i will just create my posts with
voice to text on my phone i will
literally just sit there
talk monologue and then it will turn
into my draft posts and then when i'm
editing it comes across much easier to
read so you don't want these big slabs
of text in what you're doing you want to
come across really authentic that's one
of the top things i've learned when i've
analyzed the data is that the more
authentic my posts are the more natural
the tonality and the more conversational
it is the better it does perform the
next one is setting aside time to write
because otherwise life gets in the way
and you won't remain consistent when i
first started i was doing it weekly and
writing weekly content and it was hard i
actually find it pretty hard to get my
thoughts onto paper in a coherent
manner that people enjoy reading i can
talk for days not a problem but i
actually find it really hard to get
those thoughts into something engaging
and it just takes time and you will get
better and better at it and this is the
thing there's no glory in starting and
so no one does it no one starts because
there's no glory it's uncomfortable you
know what you're writing is crap you
know it's not going to be awesome but
you have to push through that and then
eventually your brain the lens of your
brain starts to think in content and
you'll start to have content ideas so i
just have a notes in my phone it's all
connected to my imac and my laptop so
that whenever i have an idea i'll put it
in and then if you do make other content
like youtube videos or instagram you can
start to repurpose this content and you
don't want it to be generic you want it
to match the platform and the tone of
the platform but a lot of the ideas can
be cross used i think that's a word
cross used across other different
platforms so the third one and one of
the biggest things that i learned was to
schedule your posts so originally we
were using buffer which was i think free
super easy schedule your posts they go
out and you don't have to think about it
because what happens is when you start
to create friction or you make it hard
for yourself to perform this habit then
you don't do it so now i use hype fury
because i'm starting to learn twitter
lol
it's interesting to be such a noob at
something in digital marketing but
now i'm using hype theory so those are
the two different tools that i found
work to schedule the posts next one and
i probably should have said this at the
start but it's to have a goal what is
the goal and what do you actually want
to be known for and what are you going
to talk about so it took me a while to
kind of find this to figure out what
will be my topics we're just starting
our business and i was trying to figure
it out and so now i know that my posts
will be on legion funnels sales business
building and
a lot of like women issues as well
because that's something that i'm
passionate about and i'll get into my
system and the system that i found that
actually works the best for me but you
need to have a goal in mind like why are
you doing this and that's the same for
anything because if you don't have a
strong why
then you'll never keep doing it so you
do have to be bought in to doing this
and why you're doing it and that you're
not just ticking a box for me it's
because in the long term i do want to
build my personal brand one of the goals
that i had this year was to get onto two
stages in conference or whatever but do
two stage talks two stage gigs whatever
during this year and i knew a big part
of that was gonna be building my
personal brand building my personal
brand also helps the business but it's
gonna help me in the long term to
differentiate myself in what i'm doing
and in the market so really it's all
about being consistent and having a
clear message so you'll just write down
the top three to five things that you
want to be known for in the industry and
you'll post about that and you might be
thinking oh hope my followers see all of
this and they'll get bored of it not
many people will see your post at the
start you'll start getting more
followers you'll start getting more
connections and then you just want to
keep consistently saying the same ideas
you have the curse of knowledge you know
what you've been posting and you care
about it remember other people don't
really care as much yeah so you want to
be saying somewhat the same things your
ideas on things and reframing them but
always providing value something
valuable and i'll get into my system
shortly creating the system because you
want to eliminate as much thinking or
human error as humanly possible and i'm
very big on processes and systems no
matter what i'm doing so if i ever have
to do anything more than once i will
always turn it into at least a minimum
viable system and this system has been
evolving over time while i've been doing
my linkedin it hasn't just always been i
knew what i was doing i want to be very
clear on that i didn't and i fumbled my
way through it a lot before i figured
out what works for me because what works
for me is not going to necessarily work
for you but what you shouldn't be doing
is you shouldn't be trying to copy me
and what i do you should be trying to
understand how i think about it so that
you can use the same strategic thinking
in what you want to achieve so every
week
i will well actually i schedule my
content every month now but every week
at the start i was putting them under
one of these categories are behind the
scenes because in the first couple of
months when i was testing content i did
a lot of testing and get into that i
found that behind the scenes stuff of
what i was up to went really really well
so i'll do one behind the scenes i'll do
three thought leader posts so those tap
into those categories that i want to
talk about offers legion funnels etc
what i want to be known for and then
what i was doing is a random
thought like hey
for example i did one the other day
about being nice
doesn't equal being kind and you
shouldn't be nice because it allows
people to step all over you but you
should always be kind because it's about
respect for yourself and for others yeah
so that's like more of like a random
thought one behind the scenes i might
post a selfie of myself creating a
webinar and then see if anybody wants
access to the webinar there's a goal in
mind i'm not constantly just trying to
get leads from it though actually i
pretty much never post about getting a
lead or getting a sale on linkedin at
the moment i'm trying to build my
following and my connections and
providing value and we're still creating
a lot of those lead magnets and things
that we can provide in the business
anyway so right now it's very
foundational but as i said at the start
of this we can trace back a lot of our
sales from the networking we did in one
or two early posts where that led to
opportunities where that led to
opportunities for us to meet new people
and to expand our network i always
thought networking was a bit boring or a
bit corporate or just something that
people say that you should do but no
like pretty much when we've gone to an
event i've spoken at a stage event when
i've gone on a podcast our agency we
don't run any ads and we are hitting
pretty consistently 80k plus a month no
ads and it's just my co-founder and i
that's it it makes it easier for me to
categorize and systemize what i am doing
and you want to be putting posts out
there where you're vulnerable and people
can get to know you and you want to give
your thoughts and your opinions and not
just be pushing out garbled robotic
boring stuff like when you have an idea
write it down and see if you can create
something awesome and at the start it
will not be awesome it will be crap that
is part of the process it will take you
quite a lot of posts to get good at it
and finally my number one tip remember
this
likes and impressions do not pay the
bills damn vanity metrics they aren't
going to get you anything unless that's
your goal if you just want to be
boosting those validity metrics and
that's it and that's why you're doing it
and you're doing it for fun you're not
driving towards any other goal
go for it but my most successful post
has over 800 likes
30 000 ish views and i really couldn't
care less some of my posts might get 20
or 30
interactions and they're the ones that
have people dropping into my dms asking
me about talking about funnels or having
a sales call only one percent of
linkedin users are even active and so
that's why we chose linkedin as our
first channel
to get active on because linkedin is
promoting people and giving you a lot of
reach that you cannot get on really any
other channels anywhere else because
none of the users are actually posting
things on the channel and that's why we
started here to start getting known on
linkedin first so remember team
knowledge is useless without action who
of you are going to start posting on
linkedin or just put a challenge out
there for you get your first linkedin
post out there this week let me know
comment the link in the comments on
youtube and i'll come and engage with
you and i'll come and say hello i'll be
really excited to see that otherwise as
the kids say please like subscribe do
all of those things ring the bells etc
etc i'm sure our wonderful editor will
put them up on screen and until next
