Rax also mentions that starting the season with Firewall and doing the season quest can yield chain lightning pieces, which can make you more powerful than Firewall. He details the items to look for, such as Axial Conduit and Lightning Rod, and explains how they synergize with chain lightning to prevent Mana drain and increase damage output.
⚡️ Chain Lightning Build and Strategy
Rax continues by delving into the Chain Lightning build, emphasizing its potential for area-of-effect (AOE) farming once the Mana management is optimized. He shares a gameplay clip where he has Axial Conduit and demonstrates how Chain Lightning can bounce multiple times without depleting his Mana, leading to massive damage. Rax points out the importance of not spamming Chain Lightning and managing Mana to sustain the damage over time. He also discusses the benefits of having certain items like Unbroken Tether and Recharging to enhance the build's effectiveness. Transcripts
hi everyone it's Rax I've been
absolutely blasting uh Diablo 4 season 5
I have a 100 sourcer I have a 100 Druid
and I have a 100 Rogue we're going to
get Barb and necro done
tomorrow but the class that most people
seem to be playing is Sorcerer And I get
questions about them all the time sorry
losing my voice I've been streaming
non-stop for two straight days um so I
want to talk to you about a lot of the
very popular sorcerer builds a lot of
people are asking me Rax what should I
do should I change this what should I do
here I'm going to answer all of it right
now so if you log into the season you're
going to start right now you're going to
start on the
weekend the very best build to play when
you have nothing is firewall firewall
murders the game with nothing so I mean
it it's pretty straightforward you just
max firewall you can take Hydra as well
there was a huge buff to firewalls just
base damage in the patch notes along
with the key passive
combustion and for all of these guides
I'll show you some gameplay here here
was me doing the Capstone on Hardcore
this is the second Capstone by the
way
um this is the second Capstone so going
for Elias I've got pretty much nothing
and I just lay hydras and lay firewalls
and you can see that the monsters are
instantly
dying so blizzard did make a mistake and
they gave us the more powerful uh
tempers to early so I had one tier of
temper higher than I should but still I
mean look how fast everything dies and I
think Elias dies in two seconds so I
would absolutely start as firewall and I
would do the season Quest because when
you do the season Quest it seems to give
you it doesn't seem to be consistent but
it does seem to give between that and
the reputation it does seem to give you
some chain lightning
pieces there are three pieces that
you're looking for when I did it I got
two of them that seems to be the most
common result sometimes people get all
three of them and then you're going to
be more powerful than firewall
so what does that look
like so now we go to chain lightning and
I would do this only after you get the
items um and essentially the items that
you're looking for are axial
conduit and then you're looking for if
we go down here into the progression
system uh and then you're looking
for lightning
rod lightning rod is very very important
for killing bosses which is the problem
with uh one of the problems with chain
lightning so lightning rod hopefully
that
drops and then unbroken tether where
chain lighting has a chance to bounce a
million times it's also very good if you
get recharging when chain lightning
bounces it restores
Mana so when you start to get at least
two of these Powers you could consider
respecing to chain light
now when you get axial
conduit if you read through all of that
uh text there chain lightning is going
to try to return to you and take away
six of your
Mana if it's successful in bouncing back
and forth and doing that 11 times it's
going to explode for massive
damage so the problem is is if you throw
a bunch of chain Lightnings it drains
your Mana to zero and if the chain
lightning cannot drain your Mana if it's
at zero it does nothing it Fizzles out
and you lose a shitload of
damage so the whole the whole equation
you're trying to solve all the time is
how can you get so much Mana that you
can just vomit chain Lightnings
everywhere and still get all the
explosions when you first start doing
this you're not going to have good
enough Mana so you're going to have to
see how it goes you're going to throw a
chain lightning and you can probably
sustain the first explosion fine can you
throw two of them at a time can you get
away with a a third one the moment it
starts to actually drain your Mana away
that's your limit and you don't want to
run out of Mana so don't spam chain
lightning when you have these pants
otherwise you're going to do essentially
no damage but when you get it rolling
here here is me I had I had axial
conduit in this clip and I had the chain
lightning bounces a million times but
for the longest time I did not have
lightning rod notice how I am almost it
might not look like it but I'm really
not casting a bunch of chain
Lightnings I am walking forward and
throwing a chain lightning here and
there if you spam it you're going to do
no damage notice how my Mana for the
most part doesn't go to zero that's why
I'm getting all of these explosions the
AOE farming potential of this build when
you solve it for Mana is
unbelievable and while the lightning is
orbiting around you you can give
monsters a hug and do additional damage
so I didn't have all the pieces for this
and I did find a lot of the pieces for
Fireball so I resp pretty far into my
leveling journey and a lot of people
assumed that that's because I didn't
like chain lightning I'm not going to go
back to chain lightning or I don't think
chain lightning has a future none of
these things are true I love this build
I'm going to go back to it especially
when you have really really good gear to
solve for your Mana if you could get to
a point like North War's planner here by
the way shout outs to northw war for all
the sorcerer guides on Maxwell
um once you can solve all of your Mana
this build is going to be absolutely
deadly and I can't wait to solve it and
see it at full power so but just look at
how easily you can just run around and
delete everything the bosses are going
to be rough I actually found it was much
better for me on the bosses when I got
lightning rod to actually take off the
axial conduit when I fought the boss and
just Spam chain lightning I actually had
faster kills doing that um than any
other strategy for some weird
reason but uh this is something you
should actually you should absolutely
build into when you get a couple of
pieces you don't have to play with axial
conduit by the way if you get unbroken
tether and you get uh lightning rod and
you get recharging the bounce a bunch re
regain your Mana um and the extra damage
you can play with that too and it will
work so that's chain
lightning then I was lucky enough to
find the staff of endless
Ridge which is if you saw my video a few
days ago I said I thought Fireball
sorcerer was going to be Godly so we
have so many incredible stats for
Fireball on this staff and then you have
the gloves which turn the Fireballs into
bouncy balls and whenever a fireball
explodes it gives you Mana back when I
got these two things I just instantly
Respec out of chain lightning to see how
strong it was and well I mean look for
yourself the uh the power here is
unbelievable I'm just throwing bouncy
balls everywhere and everything just
instantly dies and it just replenishes
my mana and there's no like there's no
me Panic where you have to like worry
about if you run out of mana and this is
with the lowest possible roll on the
Mana back on the gloves I believe it's
the lowest possible roll it's still
keeping my Mana at full and remember
that the Mana return is on Fireball
bounce which means it doesn't matter if
you're fighting trash or bosses or
whatever you should get the Mana back no
problem and by the time I hit 100 and I
didn't have anywhere close to perfect
gear I didn't even have the right items
I didn't have maxed aspects nothing
didn't have really hardly any greater
axes nothing like that I think my
Fireballs were bouncing for like one and
a half million a
bounce so they could get you could get
so much higher than that but you can see
here you are just I mean you're you're
like playing Space Jam you're just
running around like Michael Jordan and
Bugs Bunny just bouncing the basketballs
everywhere and everything just dies the
power level of this is insane I went to
a world boss fight a a buddy of mine
invited me and said hey uh we've been
fighting this boss we're going to fail
we only have four minutes left the boss
still has 60% of his HP I came I I came
with my 100 uh bouncy
ball uh Fireball sorcerer killed the
boss in two minutes essentially by
myself it it's uh it's real strong
remember the world bosses are hard now
because they have uh they have
resilience so to kind of summarize here
firewall is I would say definitely the
best build if you've got nothing it's so
strong it's fantastic start firewall do
the seasonal Quest start racking up the
stuff for chain
lightning when you feeling powerful you
feel like you've got everything
everything you can do a Respec if you
want or if you want to play firewall the
whole way to 100 go for it um Chade
lightning is very very good again in the
endgame guide this you're not going to
have all this stuff go down to the
endgame gear
section and then go to starter or
leveling to 100 it'll show you a more
basic setup
here Fireball when you get this staff
and these gloves dominates It Crush this
everything you should definitely try it
it's so
fun then there is another build that
North War has here if you read the
opening paragraph here there was a
change to one of these Powers which
essentially gave it a 60 times damage
boost and North war is saying that this
build is going to end up being maybe one
of the godliest things ever but it does
require a lot of gear it does require a
lot of cool
down to bring your lightning spheres
back in fact in fact he takes the
fractured winter
glass which is normally the Frozen orb
thing for the stat on it where your
conjuration cooldowns are reduced when a
frozen orb explodes so he takes the
Frozen orb thing to reset his Lightning
Spear but he's under the impression that
this build is going to be unbelievable
in the end game when you have Godly
gear so you start with firewall you move
to chain lightning or Fireball whichever
one you want they're both probably
fantastic if you're like not the
greatest player ever or don't want to
deal with a ton of mechanics do Fireball
there's no mechanics throw your bouncy
balls they die chain lightning got to
pay attention can't run out of Mana got
to manage a bunch of stuff but the
output is
incredible and then maybe in the end
game we're going to be aspiring toward
going to the lightning Spar guide and I
will make it very soon and I'll show you
how powerful it is I just haven't had
time because we're trying to get all the
classes to 100 but uh starting on Friday
I'm going to be blasting the sorcerer in
the endgame we're going to be fully
testing all of these builds and uh I I
be honestly I'm having a ton of fun here
the whole progression here is is really
great so I'm glad uh blizzard has done
well with this season it's making it a
lot of fun to play anyway this was just
a quick little conversation on all the
little builds about Sorcerers hopefully
this kind of answered your questions
what should you start with when should
you transition da da da da and I'll see
you guys in game thank you
