Transcripts

play00:00

- This is the DJI Osmo Mobile 6.

play00:04

And in this video, I'm gonna show you everything

play00:07

that's new about this gimbal

play00:08

and also just why you would want to use a gimbal

play00:11

like this for your smartphone.

play00:13

All right, let's get into it.

play00:15

(relaxing synth music)

play00:26

So all of that footage was shot using this setup,

play00:29

and you could see how smooth the footage is

play00:32

when you're using this little gimbal.

play00:35

Now I know that smartphones have gotten super advanced

play00:38

with the stabilization that's built into the phone itself.

play00:41

However, when you're using a gimbal,

play00:43

you can get even smoother footage.

play00:45

And one of the big things that a gimbal does

play00:47

is it keeps your horizon completely level

play00:49

no matter how you're shooting.

play00:51

So what that means is,

play00:52

when you're looking out in the distance,

play00:53

your horizon is always gonna be a flat line.

play00:55

It'll never dip one way or another.

play00:57

And so this is a level of stabilization

play01:00

that you can't achieve by just hand-holding a phone.

play01:02

You can get close, however,

play01:04

the gimbal does add a second layer of stabilization

play01:08

that really makes your footage look that much better.

play01:11

So let me just show you some samples side by side.

play01:14

This is handheld with my iPhone 13,

play01:17

alongside the DJI Osmo Mobile 6,

play01:19

And I just wanna show you the difference

play01:20

between hand-holding and actually using a gimbal

play01:23

and what it looks like.

play01:25

(relaxing synth music)

play01:46

Now, one huge advantage that a gimbal has

play01:49

is when you push into your longer lenses

play01:52

you can still have super stable footage.

play01:54

It's a lot harder to get these smooth shots

play01:56

on the long lens when you're hand-holding the camera.

play01:59

And another big thing is,

play02:00

it's just easier to use this gimbal.

play02:03

Right now I'm operating it

play02:04

with just one hand and I can always get stable shots.

play02:07

A lot of times what I'll do is I'll put both hands

play02:09

on my smartphone to be able to get those stable shots.

play02:12

But using a gimbal allows you to just use one arm operation,

play02:15

and you know that you're always gonna get

play02:17

super stable footage.

play02:19

Now let me show you real quick

play02:20

how easy it is to use this gimbal.

play02:22

So it's just in my pocket and it's turned off.

play02:25

Now I just open it up, it turns on the gimbal

play02:29

and then I use the little magnet that comes

play02:33

with this gimbal that goes on my phone.

play02:36

You just attach it, line up the dots, and then

play02:38

the gimbal automatically resets and gets ready to go.

play02:41

And you can even have it set up

play02:42

to where the Mimo app automatically activates as soon

play02:45

as you turn on the gimbal and it's connected.

play02:49

So you don't have to worry about like pressing

play02:51

and holding a button to turn on or off this gimbal.

play02:54

And also the magnet makes it super easy

play02:56

to be able to pop it on and off.

play02:58

And as soon as you take this off,

play02:59

the gimbal's not gonna freak out or anything like that.

play03:02

You just close it down and the gimbal turns off,

play03:05

put it in your pocket and then that's it.

play03:07

So you don't have to worry

play03:08

about turning the gimbal on or off,

play03:10

you just open or close it

play03:11

and it automatically does everything for you.

play03:13

Now one of the huge advantages

play03:15

with using the DJ I Osmo Mobile 6

play03:17

is you have a selfie stick built in.

play03:20

So if you are someone who does vlog-style content, well

play03:23

you could extend this out away from yourself

play03:26

and now you're gonna get a much better shot

play03:28

with that front facing camera

play03:30

than you would if you were just hand-holding the camera.

play03:33

All right, so let's start doing a vlog-style shot.

play03:36

And you could see I just put it on the extension pole

play03:38

and now I'm walking around and able to get this good shot

play03:41

of myself no matter where I'm at.

play03:43

It actually looks much more natural when I'm shooting

play03:45

like this because my hand can be lower

play03:47

and you're getting just an upper shot

play03:49

of me doing the style of a shot.

play03:53

So when it comes to working

play03:54

with your smartphone to create your videos,

play03:56

the gimbal is just gonna give you a lot more

play03:59

creative control over your image

play04:00

and all you did just do a lot different styles

play04:03

of shots and the extra bit

play04:05

of stabilization that you get from the horizon

play04:08

always being balanced is gonna just

play04:09

make your shots stand out.

play04:11

Now, DJI has upgraded a lot

play04:13

of the features on the Osmo Mobile 6

play04:15

and let's go sit down and go over everything that's new

play04:19

with this gimbal and how it works.

play04:24

So the big thing when it comes

play04:25

to this style of gimbal is simplicity.

play04:28

It's easy to use, but everything you need is right here

play04:32

on the gimbal or within the app.

play04:34

So I'm just showing you a screen record here

play04:37

so you can see what's going on in the app,

play04:39

and then I'm gonna talk about

play04:40

all the different buttons that you have access to

play04:42

when you're working with the DJI Osmo Mobile 6.

play04:45

On the bottom you have this tripod that you can remove.

play04:48

So you don't have to use this if you don't want to

play04:51

but what this allows you to do is set it down

play04:53

on like a table or the ground or wherever you're at.

play04:56

Easily, you could just set it up

play04:57

at any point and then you could do something

play04:59

like a time lapse or you could do a shot

play05:01

like you're walking in the distance or whatever.

play05:03

This is just an easy way to set this camera down

play05:05

and then you have a good shot wherever you're at.

play05:08

And with the extension pole, well

play05:10

you can have a taller shot so

play05:11

that the camera is not always on the ground.

play05:13

A lot of times if you're trying to make videos

play05:15

and you're just using your phone,

play05:17

you have like a little tripod,

play05:19

or you just like set it on a rock or something,

play05:21

well, you're always gonna have the shot

play05:22

where it's kind of like looking up.

play05:24

So this does give you a little bit more flexibility

play05:26

when it comes to working with this gimbal

play05:28

and giving you different types of shots.

play05:29

On the gimbal itself,

play05:30

you have a few buttons here on the front.

play05:33

In the upper right hand corner

play05:34

you have a mode button and the motors will lock depending

play05:37

on which mode that you have it in.

play05:38

And by default, you're in the mode

play05:40

that's follow all, which basically means

play05:42

that all the motors are going to be moving

play05:43

nothing is locked.

play05:45

So if you tilt the gimbal down,

play05:47

the camera's gonna move down with you,

play05:48

and if you move to the left or right

play05:50

the camera's gonna move left to right with you.

play05:52

The motor's gonna follow whatever your action is.

play05:54

Now the next mode you could switch into is tilt lock mode.

play05:57

And so this basically means

play05:58

that any tilting action is gonna be locked.

play06:01

So if your camera's looking out that way

play06:03

and you move your hand up or down

play06:05

well the camera is going to stay looking that way.

play06:08

However, if you rotate left or right

play06:10

the camera's gonna follow.

play06:11

Now the next mode you have access

play06:13

to is the same as the follow all.

play06:15

However, it also rotates.

play06:16

So if I spin, the camera's gonna spin with me.

play06:19

It's also gonna follow down

play06:20

and it's also gonna follow or left or right.

play06:23

And then the last mode is spin shot.

play06:25

So if I move left or right on the joystick

play06:27

it's gonna spin in a circle.

play06:28

So you can create those shots where it's kind of

play06:30

like spinning through space left or right,

play06:34

so you can be like walking forward

play06:35

and have the camera spinning.

play06:37

It's an interesting shot and you might have some use for it.

play06:39

Most of the time I just shoot with tilt lock or follow all

play06:42

because I'm just trying to keep the horizon level

play06:44

and I want that super stable looking footage.

play06:46

Now it's super easy to switch between all these modes.

play06:48

You just press the mode button

play06:50

and it cycles through all four modes.

play06:52

Now also on the front of this gimbal

play06:53

you have your record button.

play06:55

So this is gonna take a photo or start your recording.

play06:57

It's just easy.

play06:58

It's right where your thumb is

play06:59

so you never actually have to touch the camera

play07:00

when you wanna start or stop recording.

play07:02

Now underneath that

play07:03

you have a button that has these two arrows

play07:05

and it does three different actions.

play07:07

So if you just press it once

play07:08

you could see there's my camera there

play07:10

and then it's gonna flip to me.

play07:12

Now it's gonna be following me

play07:14

as I do this kind of vlog style shot, press it once again

play07:18

it's gonna flip back over to there

play07:20

to you and the camera that's over there.

play07:22

Now if I double press it

play07:23

it's gonna go from horizontal mode to vertical mode.

play07:26

So depending on the style of content that you're shooting

play07:29

you might be shooting more vertical or horizontal or both.

play07:32

And this is just a quick way to flip between em.

play07:35

And then if you triple click this button

play07:36

it's gonna go to photo mode.

play07:38

So you can take a photo, triple click it again,

play07:41

and it's gonna go back to video mode.

play07:42

So easily with the buttons on this gimbal

play07:45

you can access a lot of the different modes and a lot

play07:47

of the settings without actually touching the app at all.

play07:50

Now you also have a joystick, and this joystick just

play07:53

moves the camera wherever you point the joystick.

play07:55

And the cool thing about this joystick

play07:56

is you could set how responsive it is.

play07:58

So if you want to use some moving shots

play08:00

in your footage, well, you could set this to super slow

play08:02

and it's gonna really creep through the shot

play08:04

and give you some good looking footage.

play08:06

But if you just want to use it to reframe

play08:09

you could set it to faster and you could just get

play08:11

to wherever you need to go with the joystick super fast.

play08:14

Now, on the side of this gimbal

play08:15

you have a zoom and focus wheel.

play08:17

So as I spin this, you could see

play08:18

that I'm slowly zooming in and I'm slowly zooming out.

play08:23

Now what I could do is just click on it.

play08:25

So press down on this jog wheel,

play08:27

and now I've switched over to manual focus.

play08:29

So I could go close focus or far focus.

play08:33

So if you wanna just take control

play08:34

of your focus and you don't want it to be auto,

play08:36

well this is a great way to do it.

play08:38

And then you can easily set your focus

play08:39

to the point at which you need something to be in focus.

play08:42

You could also do some cool things

play08:44

like rack focus where you're close on something

play08:46

and then it focuses to something in the distance.

play08:48

And you could do that all manually using this dial wheel.

play08:51

And the last button that you have

play08:52

on this gimbal is this trigger on the back.

play08:54

You could double click this, it's gonna recenter the gimbal.

play08:57

However, if you press once

play08:58

it's gonna set up your active track

play09:01

and then it's gonna start tracking whatever's in the center.

play09:03

Click it once again, it's gonna stop that tracking.

play09:05

And this trigger also works the same way when

play09:07

the camera's facing you.

play09:09

So if I switch the mode by pressing the two arrows

play09:12

it's now gonna auto track me

play09:13

because that's by default what happens

play09:15

but I click it once, it's gonna stop tracking me.

play09:18

So you could use this trigger to start

play09:19

and stop the tracking when you're in either mode.

play09:22

With the buttons that you have access to

play09:24

on the gimbal itself,

play09:26

you really don't have to use the app that much.

play09:28

However, let me show you what you get with the DJI Mimo app.

play09:32

So as you can see here,

play09:34

the camera's facing me on the gimbal.

play09:36

On the left hand side over here

play09:38

you have auto and manual settings.

play09:40

So you could click this

play09:41

and you could switch your different modes.

play09:43

So right now, I'm in auto.

play09:44

This is auto exposure, but if I wanted to go over to manual

play09:48

I could set my ISO, I could set my shutter speed

play09:51

or I could set my exposure value,

play09:53

which is gonna change where the camera thinks

play09:55

best exposure is.

play09:56

I'm gonna go back to auto so that it looks better.

play09:59

And then underneath that, you could change all

play10:01

of your settings for your resolution, your frame rate.

play10:04

And when you're in photo mode

play10:05

this is where your timer's gonna be.

play10:07

So you could set up a timer if you wanna do

play10:09

set the camera down, hit the button

play10:10

and then walk away from it and get a shot.

play10:14

Let's go back to video.

play10:15

Now underneath that over here

play10:17

you have this button that's supposed to

play10:18

make your face look better.

play10:20

It's like a beauty filter.

play10:21

So let's turn that on and make myself look pretty.

play10:24

So we have auto, so it's gonna smoothen out my skin.

play10:26

And I guess it's also gonna slim your face a little bit.

play10:29

So let's really slim the face.

play10:32

And let's really smoothen out my skin.

play10:36

That's obviously pushing it too far

play10:38

but you could use this to just do a little bit

play10:41

of tweaks to your face to make it a little smoother

play10:44

a little bit slimmer, a little bit better on camera

play10:47

depending on the shot that you have.

play10:49

I'm gonna turn that off, Maybe I should keep it on.

play10:52

But down here in the corner

play10:53

you have these three little dots.

play10:54

This is like your menu

play10:56

and this is where you could change things

play10:57

like your gimbal mode.

play10:58

You can calibrate your gimbal

play11:00

but then also you could set things

play11:02

like your joystick speed and joystick control.

play11:04

I want my joystick to be slow because I want to

play11:07

use my joystick to get some smooth creeping shots

play11:10

of the pretty landscape that I'm at.

play11:13

So you have a ton of options in your menu to take control

play11:15

of your gimbal and dial in the settings that you need

play11:18

for the style of shooting that you do.

play11:19

Now on the screen itself, at the bottom

play11:22

you see all of your camera settings.

play11:23

I'm in auto, so they're fluctuating depending

play11:25

on what's going on behind me.

play11:27

You have your record button

play11:28

the big red button here on the side.

play11:30

You have your camera button that's gonna flip

play11:31

from in front of camera to behind camera.

play11:34

You see all of your battery levels up here at the top.

play11:38

And then you have this little hand thing

play11:40

which is a gesture control.

play11:41

And so you could set this up

play11:43

so to do like a gesture, and then it's gonna start shooting.

play11:47

So I just put my hand up,

play11:49

now it's recording using the gesture controls,

play11:52

super useful because you could have this camera set

play11:56

up at a distance, put my hand up,

play12:01

And it's gonna start controlling.

play12:03

So now I'm recording.

play12:05

I don't have to be near the camera,

play12:06

walking away, it's gonna track me.

play12:09

Now the cool thing with this gimbal is

play12:11

that you could set this up with your DJI Mic,

play12:13

just put it on the phone here,

play12:16

and then you could use wireless audio.

play12:18

And this is how I do a lot of my videos

play12:20

is I use the DJI Mic to get wireless audio

play12:23

so I can walk away from camera.

play12:24

Gesture Control has Follow & Shoot and Shoot Only.

play12:28

So if you have Follow & Shoot turned on

play12:29

what happens is when you turn it on

play12:31

and you do the little motion,

play12:33

it's gonna start following you

play12:34

as soon as it starts recording.

play12:36

But you can also have this set up to Shoot Only

play12:38

so that you don't have the active track turning on.

play12:40

And that's good if you just want a shot where it's just

play12:42

like a wide tripod style shot

play12:44

and you don't want the camera to follow you.

play12:45

All right, let's go back here.

play12:46

So on the side, you have your different modes.

play12:49

Right now I'm in video mode.

play12:50

You can go to photo mode, you can go to panoramic

play12:53

you could do a time lapse, you could do a hyper lapse

play12:55

you can do a dynamic zoom

play12:57

which is like a push in with a pullout

play12:59

and it creates that really interesting stretching effect.

play13:02

And then you have your slow motion mode.

play13:04

So a lot of different modes just easily accessible here

play13:07

in the DJI Mimo app.

play13:09

But beyond just all the different modes

play13:11

that you have access to in the app

play13:13

and on the Gimbal itself,

play13:15

you also have this thing called shot guide

play13:17

which is pretty cool.

play13:18

It's in the upper left hand corner here.

play13:19

So when you turn this on, you have access

play13:22

to a lot of these different predetermined shot lists

play13:26

which will walk you through the process

play13:28

of shooting different styles of shots

play13:30

that will create a good looking scene.

play13:33

So if you don't know how you wanna shoot

play13:35

say this park, well, you can go into the shot guide

play13:38

and you could find like a lazy afternoon

play13:41

or a night walk or a town tour or a street dance.

play13:45

And each one of these is gonna have an entire shot list

play13:49

so that you could see exactly what you need to

play13:52

shoot to be able to create this sequence.

play13:54

This one's called Lazy Afternoon, and it goes

play13:56

through all the different shots that you need to

play13:58

be able to create the sequence.

play14:00

And then so when you scroll down, it shows all of the shots.

play14:03

So let's do a low angle leave shot, and it's gonna show you

play14:06

on the left hand side, when it goes back

play14:07

to the camera screen, how to actually get the shot.

play14:10

So it sets up the gimbal

play14:11

in the mode that you need to achieve this shot.

play14:14

Then it shows you a behind the scenes

play14:15

of how the person is shooting it

play14:17

and what the final shot looks like.

play14:19

So let's make this shot right here.

play14:21

So I'm gonna find my shot.

play14:23

I'm gonna hit record

play14:24

and then I'm gonna do the same action that they're doing

play14:27

and they'll show you side by side

play14:29

what the shot is supposed to look like

play14:30

and what yours looks like.

play14:31

And you could either retake

play14:33

or you could use it and go to the next shot.

play14:35

So if you're newer to making videos

play14:37

or you just want some inspiration

play14:39

these different shot guides are gonna give you a lot

play14:41

of different interesting ideas when you're out filming

play14:44

between the Mimo app and the gimbal,

play14:46

there is a lot of different options

play14:47

but at the same time, it's not very complicated.

play14:50

So it's really easy to use this gimbal.

play14:53

Overall, I think a gimbal is a great idea

play14:56

if you are a smartphone creator.

play14:58

I use Gimbals with everything that I do

play15:00

because it just gives you that added layer

play15:02

of stabilization that's really gonna

play15:04

make your shots stand out.

play15:06

Now, if you wanna see more information

play15:07

about the DJI Osmo Mobile 6

play15:10

I'll include a link down below in the description.

play15:12

But next, you should check out this video right here

play15:15

which goes through a ton of information

play15:17

on how you're gonna be able to craft better videos

play15:20

when you're out shooting with your gimbal.

play15:22

I'll see you over there.
