Jewel and I'm the creator of smartphone

filmmaking Pro and on this channel we

talk about making awesome looking videos

just using a smartphone we oftentimes

also review the latest and greatest gear

and today we will take a closer look at

the DJI om6 and this is a very very

popular smartphone Gimbal and actually

one of the most popular smartphone

gimbals at the moment I've had this

gimbal now for approximately six months

and in this video I'll share with you

the good and the bad and ultimately in

the end I will give you my personal

opinion if you should get this gimbal

right now so let's get started with the

good and first off the gimbal produces

some very smooth footage and in my

opinion this is probably the most

important thing that a smartphone gimbal

has to fulfill if it does not take that

box then in my opinion it is complete

garbage but the DJI osmo mobile 6 is

capable of producing some very high

quality and very smooth footage I have

tested it a bunch in vertical mode and

also in horizontal mode and it has

produced some amazing footage it

definitely does help if you know how you

can use the gear to its Highest

Potential to get the best results

possible but overall the gimbal produces

some very nice shots the next thing that

I really like about the osmo mobile 6

and also the om4 and om5 before that is

the magnetic clamp that you can use with

your smartphone I think this is a very

intuitive and very you know just a very

nice way of attaching your phone to the

gimbal basically you just align the dots

it snaps in it also it is a very strong

magnet so you do not have to worry about

that and then basically all you got to

do is turn it on and then you're pretty

much ready to go so so when it comes to

the magnetic clamp and how long it takes

for you to be able to shoot your first

shot this is absolutely at the very top

of the smartphone gimbals the next thing

that I really enjoy about the osmo

mobile 6 is the size this thing is

freaking tiny and you can basically

bring this you know all the time with

you so when it comes to a compact gimbal

that you can bring with you basically

everywhere and also when you're

traveling I think the size is basically

unbeatable the next thing that I do like

with the osmo mobile 6 is they have

massively improved the the way and

height can change between the different

modes in the past you basically always

had to use their DJI memo app but now on

the front of the gimbal they have a tiny

screen now and basically you can just

press the M button and then you can

change between five different modes or

four different modes depending on how

you count if you also count holding the

back button to go into the lock mode

then you have five different modes but

overall it's just a much better and much

improved way compared to how it was

before and the last thing that I really

enjoy with the osmo mobile 6 is the way

and height can change from shooting

vertical to horizontal video and vice

versa so right now I'm set here to shoot

vertical video for tick tock and

Instagram reels and so on and if I press

this button here twice then it just

switches over to shooting horizontal

video and you know this just takes a

second and yeah just a very frictionless

way and overall when it comes to the

user friendliness I really like this

gimbal but these are basically all the

things that I personally do enjoy about

the osmo mobile 6 it does also have the

extension pole but I'm not the biggest

fan of this because it's you know it

just does not feel as solid and you know

it might be helpful for some certain

scenarios but overall I'm not the

biggest fan of this and now we will come

to the things that I personally do not

like about the osmo mobile 6. and first

of all the thing that I hate about the

osmo mobile 6 is the payload on paper it

has a payload of up to 300 grams which

means that I can use my iPhone 14 pro

with a filter and also an add-on lens

and I can add a case and I can also use

an iPhone 14 pro Max and a Samsung

Galaxy s23 Ultra and so on and I have

tested it with my iPhone 14 pro and I

can use a light filter that works no

problem but by the time I also try to

add an add-on lens the gimbal just turns

off and it will not be working and I've

also heard many stories from students of

smartphone filmmaking Pro that told me

that with their iPhone 14 pro Max it

just wasn't not working and the benefit

on how easy it is to use is also a

downside in this case because you cannot

really change the balance so basically

if you just want to use your smartphone

naked like I have it here right now

without any filters without any cases

without any add-ons then this works

perfectly fine but by the time you also

want to use I don't know a microphone a

case filter a lens whatever I would not

recommend that you get this gimbal for

these kinds of scenarios the next thing

that absolutely sucks with the DJI om6

is its tilt range and I'll just show you

very quickly I will use the joystick

and this is basically the furthest that

the om6 can go upwards and I'll now show

you also how far it can go down and

that's that's the most that it can go

and in my opinion this is just very

limited of course depending on the mode

that you're in you can you know tilt

with your entire arm but overall there

are a bunch of other options out there

that have a much bigger tilt range so if

that's important for you and I know that

this is important for many of you out

there so just keep that in mind the next

thing that I do not really like about

the osmo mobile 6 is the price it does

come in at around about 160 dollars as a

recording of this video and for this you

get the gimbal the mini table tripod and

the little carrying pouch and a USB

type-c cable but by the time you want to

add an add-on light for example you can

buy this for 50 bucks more and you know

then you're already in the about 200

range and then if you also want to get a

carrying case like you get with the cyan

gimbal for example simple then you have

to add another 30 bucks and then you're

looking at a gimbal that's costing you

around about 230 240 dollars and now

it's in a completely different range

already so just keep that in mind if you

are shooting in a lower light situations

and having a lights directly on your

gimbal is important for you you will

have to buy that separately the next

thing that I do not like about the osmo

mobile 6 is if you are a personal likes

to use a case with his or her smartphone

and I'm right now here using the iPhone

14 pro and this is The Nomad leather

case I will link that down below one of

my favorite cases but using this case

and this clamp right here you know it

does work theoretically and it does it

does work but the the clamp is just too

small and it won't fit very nicely so I

personally would not use the setup

because I was just afraid that you know

the clamp would just

come off whilst I'm shooting so yeah

whenever you're using a case I would not

use this setup right here there are

other gimbals out there that have a

higher payload and a bigger clamp and

then it will work just fine but with the

osmo mobile 6 I would not use a combo

like this and the last thing that I do

not really like about the osmo mobile 6

is you cannot make a full 360 degree

spin with the setup I'll just go into

the 300 or into the spin mode basically

and now if I turn on the wheel or on the

joystick rather then it starts making a

spin but it's very limited I think it

can only go up to

270 degrees so as you can see it's now

running into its physical limits and

yeah if that's something that's

important to you and you know just being

able to make a full 360 degree spin just

opens up a ton of possibilities for you

for getting creative shots also for

making transitions so yeah so overall

you are just just a bit limited and you

cannot make a full 360 degree spin so

what is my conclusion should you still

get an osmo mobile 6 in 2023 and in my

opinion the osmo mobile 6 does have a

lot of pros and a lot of cons like we

have talked about in this video I think

you have to be clear for yourself like

what you're looking for are you looking

for a gamble that works super fast it

won't work perfectly fine but you can

just you know turn it on and you're

ready to shoot for most scenarios then

in my opinion I think the osmo mobile 6

is a fantastic gimbal because you know

it's just very user friendly and you can

get some very great results using them

if you are an aspiring filmmaker and you

want to get the best quality possible

you might also be looking to use some

add-on lenses and some filters and so on

then I think that the osmo mobile 6 is

not the way to go for you there are a

bunch of different other options out

there like the science smooth 5s for

example that has a higher payload and

where you can just tweak the things way

better so that you can you know get the

results that you really want and it's

also not as limited when it comes to the

Tilt range and it can also do a full 360

degree spin in the end in my opinion I

think the most important thing is that

you actually mastered the gear that you

have the smartphones that we have in our

pockets these days are capable of

shooting amazing videos but you need to

know how you can get there we have just
