hello
everyone today we are going to talk
about uh
chemicals chemicals which we are using
on board a cruise ship within the
housekeeping
department so normally we divide
chemicals in a few categories the
chemicals which we use to take care of
the carpet chemical which we use to care
for the flows hard surfaces also we have
chemicals to use in the disos machines
and there are chemicals which can be
used as general purpose in the multiple
areas we can use
them before we start talking about the
chemicals in detail the most important
thing about the chemicals which we we
need to ensure that we always always
follow before we uh use the chemicals
the number one thing is read the
instructions so any chemical which we
are using we just need to ensure that we
are reading all the instructions how to
use what is the dilu should be what all
the personal protective equipment we
should be using while using the chemical
to protect
ourselves also the another important
thing
is holding the chemical separately so we
have acid chemicals we have alkaline
nature chemicals and both the chemicals
should not be mixed or never should be
mixed so their storage supposed to be
separate the use supposed to be separate
also none of the chemicals ever ever
should be mixed together they have their
own purpose to use they have their own
areas to use and they must be used in
the same way without
mixing there are a few other things
which we can look after just like do not
take the concentrate chemical because we
have dispensers all around the ship and
uh the proper dilution supposed to be
there
these chemicals been tested before
coming on board and they only give the
the right outcome or the product which
you are looking if we use them with the
proper dilution if we try to use
concentrate chemicals it will not only
harm the product it will also harm
ourself while we are using
them each chemical comes with chemical
information database uh material safety
database whatever you call C or MSDS
seat and we always must refer the CID
and CID or MSDS both should be there in
the chemical storage areas so before we
use the chemical we we ensure that we go
through with this chemical information
database or MSDS seat which exactly
tells us that what to do in over
situations the pp with personal
protective equipment which we should use
for each chemical what happen if there's
a spell what we can do do what happen if
chemical Falls in ice what all the
precautionary measures we should take
what's the nature of the chemical acid
alkaline neutral so all these things we
must remember all the times before we
using any kind of the
chemicals now I will take you through
with various chemicals which we are
using on board but as I said before you
use any of the chemical ensure that you
are following the steps which I I just
mentioned so first of all I will use I
will discuss the chemicals which we we
can use as general purpose they can be
used inside the gas cabin they can used
in the public rooms or any other areas
even in the crew areas so the first very
first chemical which we have is Max
magic 2 max magic to chemical which can
be used mainly uh to to clean hard
surfaces uh the dilutions is coming from
the dispensers so you don't need to
worry it about you spray it you leave it
5 minutes uh to give its contact time to
work on the surface and then you can
scrub and you can rinse out with your
normal water uh there's another chemical
which we use in the gas cabin or in the
public toilets or in even the crew
toilets that's a crystalline bio this is
the only chemical which is approved on
board to put inside the WC bowel uh we
do not put any other chemicals in the WC
ball because it it goes along with the
water into the tanks storage tanks and
it creates foam over there and which
overflows and create lot of other issues
for the plumbing team so always always
remember to use crystalline bio chemical
for the toilet it also clear the pipes
the drainage pipes because on board the
WC system works on the Evac and the
pipes has to be cleared all the time so
that also works there's another chemical
I have here is a antibacterial hand
soap which can be
used or which which is getting used for
the hand washing purpose there another
soap also comes clean and smooth there
are two different names but the same
purpose they get used to do the normal
hand washing uh there's one more
chemical which is called clean escape
room
freshener as it says it is room
freshener we get it from the dispensers
we spray in the air it settled slowly on
the carpet and it gives a great
fragrance later on do not spray too much
do not directly spray on the hard
surfaces try and spray in the in the air
obviously careful with your eyes uh but
let it get settled on the carpet uh to
to work better
so let's talk about the carpet care we
have different different uh chemicals to
use different carpet and
upholster there are mainly two types of
carpet cleaner one is weight shampooing
chemicals and another one is dry carpet
shampoing chemicals and we have to
separate machines to different types of
machines to use for these two chemicals
so the first one which we have here is a
procam dry
carpet
cleaner we use host machines on board to
do the dry carpet
shampooing as always any carpet which we
shampooed we we need to vacuum first
then we use sprinkle this dry powder on
the carpet and then we use the host
machine the host machine is designed in
such a way got the brushes underneath
and it's got a strong vacuum also to
suction the the dust and dirt out of the
carpet so that is how the dry carpet is
working we have a separate training
video for how to use the host machine
using the dry carpet
cleaner then there is weight carpet
shampoing so there are two chemicals
mainly we use for the weight carpet
shampooing and there are separate
machines we have on board to do the
weight carpet shampoing the first and
important chemical is power
breust we spray we dilute this in the
sting pumps and we spray on the carpet
after once the carpet is vacuumed and we
leave it for 10 minutes so what power
bus does is he loosen the piles of the
carpet which allows us when we are using
the next chemical crystalline
green so in the same way we spray the
crystaline green after 10 minutes once
the power bust is settled uh crystalling
green is carpet
shampooing chemic
and we just use with the vet shampooing
machine so these two chemicals we use
when we are when we are using a we
carpet shampooing method now beside that
there are other chemicals also which we
can use we have a procam Fab clean let's
talk about uh Fab clean as it says it's
a post cleaner we you we have a small uh
aost cleaning machines on board and Feb
clean can be used in those to clean all
kind of purple Street it can be chairs
it can be heavy curtain uh so that's
what we are using there's another
chemical uh to maintain the carpet
basically uh it's not a shampooing kind
of things but to the small areas
something called Citrus gel this
chemical
used for twing gum for oil marks so what
we do is we just drop wherever we see
these kind of Twingle and grease Mark we
drop the Citrus gel on the top and from
outside to inside we rub it with the
cloth and that helps us to remove the
stains from there there's another
chemical sport
remover basically as it says any
stubborn stains on the carpet we can
remove using
spot we can spot
remover yeah we can use spot remover to
to remove this stains from the carpet so
these are the main chemicals we are
using to maintain the carpet on
board so let's talk about the hard
surfaces the hard flow surfaces which we
have across the across the
ships uh mainly we'll start talking with
ceramic so any ceramic surfaces we use
normally s so5 this is the chemical
design for the Ceramics like a wasp or
WCS if you want to use uh there is
another ch chical called s55 that is for
the hard surfaces hard flows across the
SHP in the public areas mainly or uh
basically this is a chemical to avoid
any slips or trips so it's kind of
everyday after we clean the heart
surfaces we mop we use this chemical uh
on the floor we just apply the chemical
with the diluted 1 to 40 is the ratio
which we use for S so
55 we we apply on the floor and we just
leave it to get it air dry and that
allows Flo not to get slippery there's
another chemical called S
85 85 is also is the same kind of nature
but normally we do not use on daily
basis
8585 is a periodically so after every 15
days we use the scrubbing
machine using the chemical s85 with the
diluted form in the diluted form and we
suction with the suction machine we
leave it for the air dry and then on the
top we again apply so
55 if we
have a scaled buildup on the floor for a
longer time we can use uh mainly it is
in the bathroom so we can use lemones
lemon is the chemical which can be
applied directly on the surface we scrub
with the scrubber and we rinse it out
and there's another chemical which is uh
heavy duty bathroom uh cleaners called
lemon lip yeah so lemon lip and lemon is
more or less works in the same way uh to
to clean the heavy deposits of scales in
the bathroom
areas so after cleaning the carpet
bathroom hard surfaces there is one
thing which also housekeeping need to
look after is the disposes in all the
pantries we have and this is to ensure
that all the cutleries and cookeries
which we use in the gas cabins are clean
and disinfected
properly so there are two types of
chemicals which normally
use in the dis forces one is super
Trum and another one is rinse dry they
come in a gallon form can we just
replace as it is in the disos and dises
are designed in such a way that they
take the small quantity of these
chemicals super Trum and Then followed
with the rinse dry during the cycle War
cycle and to help to clean the utensils
or Cutlery and crackery there's another
one chemical which we also use for the
disposer is limea limea away is the
chemical which is designed when we have
a scale buildup inside the diser after
because of the hard water as and when we
notice but normally on board once in a
month we use Li in the disposer to
descale all the
disposers uh
moving
forward there are metal everywhere on
board and all types of metals we have
brass stainless Steels you can see
everywhere on the floors or the base of
the chairs
everywhere to make sure that they are
maintained cleaned and Shining we have a
chemical called
eosine or copper sign
special there are different different
names but they works in the same way
it's very easy to
use having a cloth apply on the metal
surfaces leave it for some time and then
use the another cloth clean cloth and
rub it rub it until the chemicals comes
off from the metal surface and it gives
the
shine okay uh before we finish with the
chemical I have a couple of more
chemicals to mention uh limea special is
one of them limea special we normally
use for the shower head when we are
cleaning shower heads once in a 3 months
that's a periodically task which we need
to complete limea special we'll be using
before we use uh cicor solutions to
disinfect the shower heads so cleaning
part will be done with the limea special
and there are two more chemicals the
final two I would say um rb1 and RB to
these chemicals normally we use in
jacuzzi bof filming biof filming is
again a a treatment which we are doing
once in every 6 month in all the Jacuzzi
or wful jetted SP tubs which is there in
the suite
Cabins this is just to avoid lenella
forming in the in the in the nozzles or
in the BBS so this is again once in a
six- Monon task there's a separate
training video made for the biof filming
and how to to do the biof filming so you
have seen now what all the chemicals we
are using within the housekeeping
department on
board the key takeaway is never mix the
chemicals never drain the chemicals into
this cus or SHP
drains it can harm to the Sea
Life use proper personal protective
equipments to protect yourself
never mix the chemicals store them
separately alkaline and
acid use chemical information database
before you start using any of the
chemical and always always make sure
that you do not use concentrate
chemicals so these are the key things
which we need to remember while using
any chemicals on
board thank you very much for watching
this I hope this information is useful
for you
