Transcripts
This is your guide to The Ordinary Skincare: what products to use for
what you need and when to use them.
Let's go.
As a brand, The Ordinary has really simplified skincare.
I've got the perfect opportunity to get into a store in Covent Garden
to take you around some of, in my opinion, some of the best products.
I'm going to cover products for acne.
We're going to talk about hydration.
There's going to be stuff about clarifying.
Some of these words might not mean anything to you, but by
the end of this, they will.
Now, thinking about The Ordinary, they work in a 3-step.
I can even see here, we're looking at prep, so really about cleansing the skin.
Treat, which might be something like serum, looking at hyaluronic
acid, or maybe niacinamide.
Again, we'll cover that off.
And then finishing with seal.
So we're looking at moisturisers or anything really just to finish the skin.
Okay.
Starting at the very beginning, face washing with a cleanser.
Now, you should be doing this first thing in the morning when you've
woken up and last thing at night,
really to take all of those dirt, impurities, whatever
you've got on your skin off.
Now, The Ordinary have really broken it down into skin types.
Now, if you've got normal to dry skin, then this is the one for you.
It's the Squalane Cleanser.
Now, this really will help to hydrate whilst also cleaning your skin.
What I like about this is a balm consistency that then goes into an oil,
so it feels really great on the skin.
From normal to dry, to oily to combination.
And that will be a lot of us guys.
A lot of men have this sort of oily skin, like me.
Generally with an oily T-zone, so on the forehead, down onto the nose,
then this is the one for you.
This is the Glucoside Gentle Foaming Cleanser.
Really something that gets a little bit of a lather, cleans the skin without
stripping it, and still leaves it feeling really supple and ready for the day.
And the final one, which really is suitable for all skin types.
This is the Glycolipid Cream Cleanser.
Really what I love about this one is it keeps the hydration in the skin
and it leaves it feeling amazing.
Okay, you've prepped it, you've cleaned it, you now move on to the treat.
This is when you can start really targeting those areas.
Oily skin, dehydrated skin, something that you just need to give a shot
of all the goodness of The Ordinary.
Okay, my favorite one at the moment is the Balancing & Clarifying Serum.
This is perfect for oily skin.
It's also going to help to hydrate it, balance the oil production, keep
it looking bright, and the key thing for me, reduce the look of shine.
Just a couple of drops of this onto cleansed skin.
Leave it.
And then move on to your moisturiser.
Now, niacinamide might be a product that you've heard of.
It's in loads of different things, but The Ordinary, again, have stripped
it back just to this key ingredient.
This is the Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%.
What does that actually mean?
The key thing on this is it's going to help to even the skin tone,
so really how your skin looks.
It's going to help to regulate oil production.
So again, any of that shine on the skin and also help to reduce redness.
This really, I think for us guys is one of those hero products.
Okay.
Moving from balancing to hydration.
And this was one of the key ingredients that really kind of, I
think, really pushed skincare ahead.
It is Hyaluronic Acid.
If you've got dry, dehydrated skin, or just skin that needs a little bit
of love, then this is the one for you.
It's going to help to plump the skin.
It's going to help to reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles.
I love this.
Really, when my skin feels just a little tight, maybe I've gone a bit overboard
with other things, a couple of drops of this, smooth it on, and you're good to go.
If you're watching this and thinking, do you know what?
Some of these products just sound too much for my skin.
Maybe it's sensitive or sensitised, then there is a product for you.
It's this one.
I really love this.
It's the Soothing & Barrier Support Serum.
Really, it does exactly what it says on the tin.
It's going to help to repair the barrier of the skin.
So really what protects the skin and also soothe it at the same time.
And the best thing about this, I think, is the colour.
And I know this might be overwhelming.
It seems like there are thousands of different products, but this is
all about finding the best product for you and what your skin needs.
Now, I'm often asked about under eye circles, dark circles, puffiness,
just looking a little tired.
There is a product for you.
This is the Caffeine Solution, so you would just take a little bit
of this onto your ring fingers and you're gonna dab around there.
It's gonna reduce the look of puffiness and also help to brighten.
Now, if you really wanna try something maybe a little different, and we
could be pushing into different territory here, then how about a
weekly or maybe twice weekly peel?
This is an AHA and BHA serum.
It looks a little like this.
What you're going to do is, at night, onto cleansed skin, so you've washed your
face, you're going to use a little bit of this and work it in for about 10 minutes.
Now, AHAs are alpha hydroxy acids and they are water soluble, so really they work
on the surface of the skin, versus a BHA, which is a beta hydroxy acid, which is oil
soluble, so really it works into the skin.
Really what this is going to do is going to help to smooth that skin
by lightly exfoliating it, and it's also gonna help to brighten it.
So really, once, twice maximum at night.
Okay.
Let's talk retinol.
Do you use a retinol?
Have you heard of retinol?
Should you be using a retinol?
Well, retinol is one of the products that I think has done the most for my skin.
Really, it helps to target those signs of aging.
So to help smooth the skin, to help decongest it, and really help to plump it.
Now, what is great about a retinol with The Ordinary is they can start
you at a really low percentage.
You don't want to be going in and hammering your skin, but really
starting with something like this, Retinol 0.2% & Squalane.
So it's going to do all those things I spoke about, but it's also going
to help to keep in that hydration.
And then maybe when you've been using this for say, three to six months, you
might decide, yeah, I like what this is doing, and you might then move up
to the 0.5% and then into the 1% and so on, and really work your way up.
And the key things about retinol is start on a low percentage.
Use it at night, and the next day make sure you're using an SPF.
It's just gonna make your skin more sensitive to light.
So you've washed your face.
You've used a serum, you're now going to finish with a moisturiser.
And much like those cleansers, they've really split it down to something
which are really quite simple.
So you've got one here for dry skin and you can see in the consistency and how
these look, what they're going to do.
It's much creamier than the one for oily skin.
And this is one that I really like, and what's great about this for
oily skin is it's not super creamy.
It's not greasy.
It doesn't sit heavy and it's got this gel consistency there.
And then a third one, which is really great for all skin types.
I think I've covered off some of the main products that are going to suit you
guys from those dark circles to maybe the oily skin, or maybe something that
just needs a little bit more hydration.
I have created an article on ManForHimself.com.
We've broken it down to different routines for your skin type so
there will be something for you.
Check it out.
I'll link it up there and also down there in the description.
