Transcripts
well to all the saints of God good
morning to
everyone and as is a time of 9:00 and
Linda is right on time so I was been
waiting for her so with that being said
shall we stand to our feet we let's have
opening word of prayer and as always
let's see how this lesson is going to
come out here upon this day so shall we
pray father it's once again upon this
hour and upon this day that each and
every one of us come as always giveing
your name all the praise the glory and
the honor for the great things you have
done and yet are still doing in our
lives and now dear father as we about to
Embark upon another lesson we ask that
the Holy Spirit would be in the midst of
it all that you help guide and direct us
dear Lord and show us dear Lord what it
is that your word is saying to us upon
this day dear Lord we ask right now for
just a portion of wisdom from on high
that we may be able to clearly discern
this message and dear Lord I ask dear
Lord that you may use me in a way that
the message will go forth in an easy
manner that all of us will gain
something from it bless those that are
here dear Lord and those that still yet
may be on their way for is in Jesus name
we give this prayer amen
amen well folks today we are in the
fourth lesson of unit number two uh the
fourth lesson of a series of Five
Lessons and even though we in unit
number two and unit number two has its
own theme as always the unit still falls
under the major overall theme and our
major overall theme is something I
repeated every week and I know you know
it without even looking at your books
what is the theme for the entire
quarter just right Jesus Is God and we
speak of Jesus Jesus Is God we've been
speaking also of this thing called that
of the Trinity and when Jesus Is God we
have to have you could say confirmation
of that other words how is this
confirmed and this is why the writer has
termed each Navy unit confirmed for
example overall theme is Jesus Is God
and unit number one it says
that as we go back to it it says uh of
course knocking stuff over here it is
confirmed by his power over death we had
five lessons that dealt with Jesus Is
God as confirmed by his power over death
Five Lessons that dealt with Jesus
showing that death has no sting it has
no Victory shows us that no way can man
put a spirit or put the soul back into
the body the only way that can be
accomplished is through God or through
that of Jesus since both of them are yet
equal and called one then we move to
unit number two the unit that we are in
now and it is entitled confirmed by
Mighty miracles when we speak of Jesus
Is God and confirmed by his mighty
Miracles we have to understand what a
miracle is from the very start we talked
about how a miracle if you can see all
the pieces coming together you can see
this lining up with this and this lining
up with that and then it finally comes
to fruition we say oh it was a miracle
that everything worked out uh we can use
that term I said more of a slang term
but that is not a miracle because if you
can see it happening you can see it
coming about by these things come
together in a certain way that's not a
miracle a miracle is when you have no
idea how it's going to come out you look
at you say I don't know what we're going
to do there's no way this can work out
but in the end you said but God and
things worked out for the better all
these lessons have dealt with that to
review some of our lessons our first
lesson that dealt with Jesus Is God
confirmed by his mighty Miracles was
Jesus first miracle anybody remember
what his first miracle
was what was the first miracle Jesus did
without looking at your
lesson there we go turning water into
wine if you recall in that particular
lesson that with Jesus once again doing
a miracle and as we've always said Jesus
said I do this unto you as a sign so
whenever he did a miracle he was
basically doing it to show you something
to show you that he is God and he is the
Messiah itself and when you deal with
these Miracles and showing that he is
God it's not so important but even
though he is important the miracle
itself but the most important thing was
the aftermath in other words why he did
the miracle in the first place place
it's kind of like how Pastor Jackson
would always explain a story he say
story is important it's truly important
but the most important thing about the
story he would say is this not that you
told the story but what was the moral of
the story other words what did the story
mean and that was the fact and why Jesus
did the Miracles it wasn't that he did a
miracle for a show to put on a show for
you but he was showing you something and
showing you who he was by The Miracles
in which he performed in that first
lesson of his first miracle as we know
Jesus had at this time about five
disciples he didn't have the 12 at this
point he had just started Gathering his
men up Jesus and his disciples were
invited to a wedding his mother was
already at the wedding and as you recall
in that story as Jesus comes to the
wedding his mother says to him we have
no
wine and Jesus response was what to his
mother we just want do a review this
morning what was Jesus response to his
mother exactly he says to her woman what
has that to do with me for my hour has
yet not come in making that statement we
typically think of him saying Woman as a
derogatory word but actually in their
culture it was a term of respect you see
throughout the Bible you always always
said woman this and woman that it
basically meant Madam or myth in that
formal respect and what he meant by his
hour is not yet come to do this would be
what a miracle if you do a miracle he's
showing you something but he said it's
not yet my time to come forth cuz keep
in mind at this time John the baptizer
was still alive
John the baptizer said I must decrease
and he must increase so Jesus was not
supposed to come on the scene at this
particular point because by doing this
miracle they would see something other
words he would show them who he was but
he said my hour has yet not come but
being a typical mother who speaks to the
son in this manner and the son responds
back by saying what does have to do with
me she just blows him away by saying to
the servants whatever he says do you
guys do it and she just walks away
because she knows this is her son that
he would beid uh do her commands as this
happened Jesus tell the servant to bring
him the the water barrels that they use
for purification and he said fill them
up to the brim remember they filled them
all the way up with water to the very
top so you couldn't add nothing else to
it he said now take them to the governor
this was the one who was in charge of
the wedding ceremony and so on because
during their weddings uh wedding in
Israel would last up to seven days an
entire week and to be out of wine was a
great embarrassment like going to a
wedding and it said we out of food so
something had to be done but when Jesus
gives a wine it says and the man tastes
the wine his response is that it is good
wine it's perhaps the best wine he's
ever taste in other words it was a
miracle that was done but here's what
what I want to get to in the order of
that lesson what was result of Jesus
doing that
Miracle what was the end of lesson
anybody remember that because remember
the Miracles are done as a sign Jesus
always say I do this as a sign unto you
to show you something and he always was
showing him that he was God but when he
did this miracle you remember really he
didn't want to do it cuz his time had
not yet come but he went through with it
but something happened after he did that
anybody remember what was the
result I give you a hint it dealt with
his
disciples believe you remember at this
time he's just a a man to them who's
called them forth but it says when he
did this then his disciples believed on
him other words nobody else knew what he
had really done besides his servants and
so on from there the world hadn't seen
it but yet what he did he showed his
disciples who he was and he said from
that moment on they then as di Bush says
believed on him so it was done to show
them something then we moved into the
second lesson which was Jesus authority
over demons now you speak of Jesus
authority over Dions this is a lesson
you remember I talked about how I study
this thing all week as I do all the
lessons I had my background information
I wrote all my notes I was all prepared
to teach it then I realized I was 3
weeks of halter schedule I studied the
wrong lesson
but it all worked out for the good
because that week we were not here to
teach that lesson but still had the
opportunity to go over it and diging
Bush body to you now I'm not come behind
his great teaching but what I would add
to that is this what Jesus showed in
this miracle of casting out this demon
is that he had power over that of
demonic other words you have to be a
miracle worker to be have power over a
demon because you have to understand
what a demon is you remember this man
named Lucifer or this angel named
Lucifer we know him better probably
Satan who was in heaven and this angel
that was in heaven named
Lucifer uh you could say committed to
sin and what was Lucifer's
[Music]
sin you're 90% right Millie you say
equal to
God ah there you go say there you go
Millie you you right with what you're
saying but he want to be above God other
words he want a throne above God's
throne to the point that God says now
guess what you have to go but one of the
things that many people Miss is you'll
find that when Satan was cast out it
said that a third of the Angels were
cast out with him so other words he
wasn't leagued by himself he had a lot
of angels that was also believing him
and wanted him to be above God this said
that a third of them were cast out so
demons are guess what what we call the
fallen angels and as we know according
to the Bible the angels has what great
power that man can't contend with the
angels this something that only by the
spirit of God can you contend with them
but Jesus showed you that even the
angels the Fallen Angels he has power
over them I think Jesus brother wrote in
the writings of James 2 where it talks
about faith without works if dead but
then he gave this comment he said if you
believe in God you do well but also even
the a even the demons it says believe
but then he said his word and do tremble
other words they have great fear fear in
the presence of of God and therefore
Jesus cast out this demon then we rolled
to a lesson of last week which was
healing on the Sabbath we remember that
lesson we dealt strongly with what's
called legalism anybody remember what
legalism
was there we go Mike legalism is the
letter of the law other words
individuals who follow the letter of the
law but not the spirit of the law and
what it was intended for we gave the
analogy of how we always talk about your
parents would tell you don't let me
everever see you do that again and they
leave and you start doing it and
somebody said didn't your mother say you
want to see you do that again and your
response is exactly she said she didn't
want to see me do it again so she's not
here so I can do it with that being said
guess what you're doing you're following
the letter of the law and How It Was
Written but you're not following that
Spirit of the law and why was put there
and this is what Jesus had to deal with
the Pharisees they were individuals who
knew the scripture knew the law forward
and backwards they were strict adherers
to the law and people respected them for
that but the problem you have is they
lost the true aspect of what the spirit
of the law was all about it was all
about the letter of the law the
enforcement upon it and it dealt with
the Sabbath day as you remember when God
created things on the Sabbath he said
this day shall be a Sabbath unto you it
shall be a day of rest and a day of
worship no work is to be performed but
with that being said I always say it
this way God Gave You common sense to
know what was work and what wasn't work
but he didn't write it out so the
Pharisees and their legally M system
they came up with 39 different you could
say laws stating that what was work and
what you couldn't do and even had
subcategories upon them now a lot of
these laws were uh things that you would
consider very trivial not to be
considered work and then they would just
add things in off the top of their head
some of the things they had for example
a couple quick ones is
food if you didn't prepare your dinner
on the day before the Sabbath the
following day you couldn't cook so you
better go to somebody else house to eat
because you couldn't work the food in
your table here's another thing you
couldn't walk but so far I think it was
less than two miles because guess what
that was considered to be work another
law they had they wore sandals right
your sandals could not have uh you could
say like Spurs on the bottom of them you
know for catching traction because if it
did it said it added labor to your walk
because it would grip the ground so
therefore you wear certain shoes it was
a lot of crazy things my folks that they
put in place that you could not do
we talked about the blue laws we had
here many many many years ago I talked
about how my grandmother would pass by
your house on a Sunday she'll stop the
car and say take them clothes off the
line you can't have them on the line on
a Sunday all these little rules we talk
about the choir rules and so on you know
there another rule I didn't bring up
have you heard any here said you cannot
cross the pul pit yes anybody know why
that rule is in
place disrespect
for inter rup through the service but
see that's where we have to understand
why it was put there in the first place
because you think about it when you talk
across the pole pit I done done it 10
times already I done walk back and forth
when the ushers come out they walk what
back and forth remember we had the
moment of
Fellowship everybody Crossing back and
forth when we used take up offerings
this side goes this way this side goes
that way all day you're crossing the P
pit but people lost the reason why it
was put in place it was put in place
when the pastor is preaching you're not
to get up and walk and cross cross
Pulpit because is it is a distraction
and also I guess I must pick on U not
pick but diing Bush and Di and Hall can
tell you if you're speaking and you're
talking and somebody does something like
that it can throw you off it throws me
off sometime let me collect my thoughts
somebody just ran across the back door
or something but that's why that rule
was put in place but often times people
don't realize why laws were put in place
so Jesus had to deal this thing on the
Sabbath day the issue that Jesus had
deal with legalism is you remember that
lesson dealt with all these different
sabbaths remember we talked about it
each week something went on you remember
we talked about the second Sabbath after
the first and we talked about the events
took place on each Sabbath because the
Pharisees were watching him it talked
about how Jesus was in the house of God
and as he was there teaching let's call
it Sunday school even though it was a
satday for them he was teaching Sunday
school you remember and it said the
Pharisees was there watching him him so
they could bring forth an accusation
which was a sad state to be in because
you think about it Christ is there
teaching the word of God and everybody's
supposed to be listening intensely to
what's being said and learning something
from it all they're doing is sitting
here like I'm going try to catch him in
something they're not P anything he's
saying this they just want to get him in
something and Jesus knew this it said in
that particular lesson Jesus knew their
thoughts and there was a man there with
a withered hand and Jesus said stand up
and stand in the midst and he stood in
the middle of all the people but see
that lesson said that but you look at
the other syop of Gospels it said Jesus
looked upon them with anger because he
knew the hardness of their heart other
words Jesus was upset about this thing
say here this man got a problem I'm
teaching and you're trying to find
something against me so Jesus now tells
this man to stand up and stand in the
midst now when that man stood in the
midst our first thought is that this man
is the main attraction right because
he's standing up in a congregation in
front of everybody All Eyes upon him but
he wasn't one in the midst of everything
because you remember Jesus now walked to
this man who's standing before everybody
and then he said then he turned and said
to them let me ask you one thing the
ones that want trial the Pharisees
because they asked he said is
it a wrong to do
good or bad on the Sabbath day is it
right or wrong to kill or destroy on the
Sabbath day and they didn't say a word
it didn't even said Jesus healed the man
all he said then Jesus said this show
your hand and he bore forth his hand and
he says here what
he was healed and here's another sad
part about that story you know what
happens it said in that day forth they
looked how they might destroy him other
words he healed on the Sabbath day now I
have to kill him these folks made as L
said they made the Sabbath day a burden
rather than being a blessing and this is
what Jesus told showed them and told
them said in that lesson remember he
said I Am Lord of the Sabbath you know I
Am Lord have authority over the sa the
Sabbath doesn't rule me
what we don't have in that text was also
in the synoptic Gospels it also said
this Jesus said the Sabbath was made for
man man was not made for the Sabbath
Therefore I Am Lord of the Sabbath other
words you made the law now ruling over
me but yet it's not set that way because
that was not the spirit or the intent of
the law in the first place so Jesus
showed him there that he had authority
over this legalism system they had put
forth but now we're dealing with the
lesson we have today which deals with
Jesus mighty power is that what it is
let me turn to it Jesus mighty power we
continue with that same concept of Jesus
Is God we're coming out of Matthew the
14th chapter verse 22 if you are using
the Bible now if you look at this
particular text here it deals with Jesus
doing once again a miracle but if you
look at this Jesus does a lot of
miracles in this in this text we look at
it just says wa first of all show of
hands who who knows the
[Music]
lesson okay I got two or three to know
it I ought to tell them leave so I can
tell everybody else anything I want to
tell them you know but you'll find that
what he does in this lesson is we
concentrate upon John not John Peter
walking on water right but you look at
the lesson Jesus did a lot of things
before that first of all Jesus walked on
water Peter walked on water which was a
miracle Jesus also calmed the storm and
also he fed the multitude so a lot of
events take place in John 14 this is why
the very first verse says in 14:22 and
straight way Jesus constrained his
disciples well you know here it says and
straightway which means what something
came before this what came before this
to get this setting here well to go back
to just cover the beginning of the 14th
chapter it starts out by saying that the
king of this time was
Herod Herod it says had heard of Jesus
Fame and all the great things that he
had done but hearing of his Fame he
didn't believe in this person they said
was Jesus what Herod said was this is
not the case John the baptizer or we
call him John the Baptist has risen from
the dead and is doing these things which
if I was Herod at that point I would
have left town and wouldn't came back
because you got to remember it was Herod
who had John the Baptist beheaded now if
you had somebody head cut off and they
were killed and so on and now they're
back I think time me to leave but yet
you'll find The Story Goes what happened
with John the baptizer was this and this
what deals with Jesus now hour has
come John the Baptist had spoken out
against King Herod what Herod had done
he had taken his brother Philip's wife
so you're two brothers I'm the king
that's my brother's wife but guess what
I'm King I want her for myself so he
takes her to be his wife scripture would
tell you here in this text that John
spoke out against this which angered the
king and angered the wife but I like
using the other syop of Gospels it said
that John spoke out against him for
taking his brother Philip wife and for
the many other sins he had did the
difference is there one scripture speaks
of one transgression the other one
speaks how John said King you're not
doing some things right and even though
he's King John being a godly man he
called him out on all his sins and that
anger the king that he put him in jail
upon putting him in jail you'll find
that King Herod later had this giant
feast and Festival going on and his
brother Philip's wife daughter herodias
was there and she did a dance she did a
dance before the king that the king
enjoyed the dance so much that he says I
will give you up to half my kingdom
anything you ask I always said that that
I don't know how she was dropping that
thing but she was doing something cuz if
you think about you put on a dance that
this man's a king
and he says anything you want up to half
my kingdom oh I'm going to give it to
you you know so she she did a dance out
of this world but this dance she put on
I I'm guess she didn't know what they
ask for the scripture doesn't get into
that but it says her mother remember
this was the wife that Philip had taken
and spoken against them she told the
daughter tell them you want John's head
on the plate and this thing bothered
King Herod because King Herod feared the
multitudes it says because John was a
prophet you know he put him in jail but
he didn't want to kill him but guess
what he had to go through with it now
why do he had to go through with it he's
King H what it say his word is bond his
word is bond and also that's another
thing we can add to that because his
word was Bond but also he was King and
in their time in culture whoever was
King they also looked at you as being a
deity other words you are a God and
kings and gods don't make mistakes so
when you say something you have to go
through with it cuz you take it back
they oh he's not a God he made a mistake
he had to take back what he did if we
had time I can show you other scripture
where these same things happen with
Kings and they had to carry him out
because they had given their word so
therefore he gives the word and you'll
find that John the Baptist is beheaded
and after he's beheaded it say his
disciples which not Jesus disciples John
disciples which is his students his
followers took his body and they buried
him upon buried him now guess who whose
hour it is now now it's time for Jesus
hour to come he comes forth and Jesus
comes forth and says and he gets in a
boat with his disciples and they go
through the other side of the Sea of
Galilee as they go there and Jesus is
healing people and teaching and so on
the hour became late and says time then
to send the crowds away the disciples
said Jesus said no send them away give
them something to eat and we know all
about how he had the Five Loaves of
Breads and the two fish another miracle
being performed where he fed over 5,000
of the men alone just by themselves not
counting women and children and after
these things happened then we get to
where we at today where it says and
straightway Jesus so I gave you all that
to let you know this several miracles
happen even before we get to this
miracle and each Miracle Jesus did it
was done in a way to show you who he was
but he starts off by saying and straight
way Jesus constrained his disciples to
get into a
ship that word kind of throws it at
first doesn't it we said Jesus
constrained his disciples what do you
think he he's saying there because we're
using this Old English King James he
compelled them can we add to that cuz
Mike is right he compelled
them he told them we're right anything
else we add to it don't be Bachelor I'm
not g to call you
out he instructed all of these
adjectives are totally correct because
when that word constrain constrain means
we could say like holding something down
but it also means Force by power Jesus
gave a command Jesus gave instructions
it seems to be it may have been to the
point that Jesus there had to be you
could say Stern with his disciples you
know they didn't want to leave his side
but here he had to tell them look go cuz
you know they never want to leave him by
himself but here he use the power and
authority he has and he I look at it
this way he commands them to get in this
boat and you go to the other side so at
this point Jesus had something in mind
that was going on he said constrain them
to get into a
what what you got into a ship keep that
in mind for later they got into a ship
he says he he said and go before him
unto the other side while he sent the
multitudes away so now our setting is
simple Jesus now has fed the multitudes
he tells disciples or He commands them
get in this ship and you go back to the
other side while I'll send these folks
away so he probably has some closing
words to give I want a preacher say he
probably gave his benediction at this
point to the crowd and then he sends
them home but as it goes forth it says
in verse 23 and when he had sent the
multitudes away he went up into Mountain
apart to pray and when the evening was
come he was there
alone kind of get the setting here think
about
Christ when the day came and Christ went
out in public what would happened to
him think about Jesus when the day came
the morning came you know because Bible
talks about Night Comes no man must work
you know some people use that today said
it's against that religion work at night
but that's a whole another story but he
says here
what I'm saying here is in the morning
game when Jesus got up and went out
before the
public what happened to his day what
went on with
[Music]
him other way he was a busy man when
that son came up he walked outside
remember how talk to crowds would always
throng him and press against him all day
long he would toall and I shouldn't say
toall for him work but he was dealing
with the people and keep in mind he is
fully God but he's also what fully man
he gets tired he gets hungry he gets
frustrated he goes through things just
as we go through things so all day long
he had to deal with all the concerns of
the people his father's work healing
people you know dealing with also those
who didn't care for him who were coming
against him trying to accuse him of
accusation so on so he works all day
there comes some time guess what well
you need some me time well he even tell
the disciples y'all go get in the ship
go through the other side he says a
multitude away what does he does he go
up into a solitary place he say he goes
to a mountain to pray there what
alone other words he needs some quiet
time there but he doesn't just go there
just to relax he also doing he's doing
something why he's on his M what is he
doing praying who's he who does he pray
to who do we pray
to pray to his father and you know when
Jesus prayed with his father he would
always just have conversation he would
just talk with his father
unlike we and I said we right we wa do
we ever just pray to God or do we pray
because we look at God as our personal
Genie other words Lord get me through
another one Lord give me this Lord bless
me with that Lord fix this Lord fix that
do we ever just say father just want to
thank you just for being
God we
should we should but often time we don't
it's all about what have you done for me
lately now we all got somebody everybody
got a cell phone in here yeah I
guarantee you I would bet you today that
you guys buy me lunch all week at work
that everybody you has a number on that
phone that when they call you go oh
Lord everybody at least got one that
when you get that call you're going they
want something because they never call
just to have a conversation they never
call BR say hey how you doing today no
no no no no no no they call because they
need something and you know you go uh
what they need now what's going on now I
look at as we being made in image of God
God's the same way God want to hear from
his children just to conversate just to
say thank you Lord for all that's going
on and so on and so on but yet Jesus
here now takes time from his busy day to
have fellowship with the father while he
is alone you'll often find long as I was
talk this morning about this that Jesus
often goes to the mountain or to a
mountain top and the question was why do
he always go there is because he's is
near God but it seems to be a place
where people don't go he going somewhere
where nobody else is around where I can
have some quiet time just me and myself
not even his closest people his
disciples he told them get in the ship
and you guys go he said he constrain
them other words he forced them by force
you could say command It Go and he sends
the multitude away and now he prays to
the father but as he prays to his father
there alone verse 20 say 24 says but the
ship now if you look at the other
synoptic gospels now what are the
synoptic Gospels
Matthew Mark and Luke like what I'm
getting at is often times I will bring
up stuff you go I don't see that in this
text what I'm doing is I'm cross
refering with this not the gospel
because they say similar things a lot of
stuff here you'll find Matthew gets
straight to the point the other writers
might add things to it how the sea began
to Tumble and so on the storms coming in
and whatnot but here it says but the
ship was now in the midst of the sea
tossed with waves for the wind was
contrary so what we have here now it
goes now back to his disciples Jesus is
at peace praying with the fathers his
disciples are now in a boat I even heard
it taught that this may have been a case
of Jesus knew about the storm and maybe
the storm was brewing when they got in
the boat and that's why he told him get
in that boat and he forced them to go
out because it's a test being done
because he about to show them something
through a miracle can't say but I will
say Jesus probably knew about the storm
and it was not uncommon for a storm to
be on the Sea of Galilee because the Sea
of Galilee where it lies in this low
elevation you have mountains all around
it you will find that the cold air comes
off the top of the mountain comes down
hit the warm Waters of that
Mediterranean area and produces storm
it's called a cold front so storm will
come up just like that it's kind of like
um everybody been
Florida every evening it rains like
clockwork quick shower passing show but
it's always going to rain the Sea of
Galilee would have storms just like that
that would come upon you so now they are
caught in in the storm now someone say
it was tossed because not the gospel
said that waves came in the boat that
the boat was about to even sink now
these most of them are experienced
fishermen so they' probably been in a
storm or two but this one it says was
contrary it was a rough storm now some
said wait a minute it said he was in a
they was in a
what a ship you think they was in a
[Music]
ship yeah they and that's a difference
between a ship and a boat you know
anybody been on the cruise
before typically I don't got be some
rough way but you don't even know the
boat's moving half the
time cuz you on a ship it's huge you
ever been in a fishing
[Music]
boat oh you know the water's moving then
when when you're in that thing because
it's not a ship you
know what I like to teach uh correct
terms you know uh in the business I'm in
everybody jet skis right you know that's
really that's a wrong term to use for
watercrafts uh what I'm getting that to
bore you with uh a jet ski is a name of
a particular model of watercraft for
example Kawasaki was the first one that
came out with jet skis so a Kawasaki is
a jet ski you heard of seos SE is the
biggest one out there but SE is not a
jet ski they call it a personal
watercraft Yamaha people call it jet ski
we going to know Yamaha is a wave
runner Honda made one at one time they
call their say aquat tracks but
everybody says jet ski for us it's kind
of confusing because we know there's
difference between those but anybody
been on the jet ski
before I don't care what kind of water
that thing is all like this you can feel
it so my point saying is this they were
not on a ship they were on a little
rinky dinky boat that they got in they
out there in the middle there of this
giant sea sea of galile it was pretty
big it's more of a lake really but it's
they call the sea and the storm have
come up to the point this boat is about
to sink so they're in a dangerous
situation as I said earlier we can only
if we say we have to also say not in
scripture but some would said when Jesus
commanded them go out he sent them out
in a
storm I can't say that's the case but I
can't say this they are in a storm
they're in some trouble and as all this
goes on it says here and in the Fourth
Watch of the night Jesus went unto them
walking on the sea
time has gone by anybody know what the
Fourth Watch
is see these small details is things
often time we we overlook this St the
Fourth Watch is the fourth watch comes
from Roman culture and soldiers and
standing and guarding the walls keep the
enemies out you'll find that in the
evening comes the first watch comes
about that is from 6: to 9 that's called
your first watch then from 9 to 12
that's called your second watch
then from 12 to 3 that's called your
Third Watch remember they looked at that
days and 12h hour increments so now you
have from 3 to six is the fourth watch
So What it lets us know is these boys
out there for a long time because they
have quite sure they didn't go out there
at 1: in the morning remember Jesus fed
them in the evening and then they got on
the boat here they are now several hours
later almost 12 hours later they're
still out there in these waves fighting
to get to the shore so they've been in
this thing for a long time now but as
they look they said in the Fourth Watch
night Jesus went unto them walking on
the sea there it says Jesus now walking
on the sea the other scripture talks
about how they looked and they thought
they saw a ghost coming toward them
um they also teach you this I've talked
about this before um a culture
narcissism narcissism is
basically it's a part of I guess you
could say Christianity but it's it's a a
teaching in it where it means all
knowing all knowledgeable other words
they believe they have all knowledge and
insight that other people don't have
they are enlightened in ways that the
average man can't be enlightened and
they had different things that they
taught uh they belied in scripture I'm
going confuse you here contrary to the
scripture doesn't that sound crazy what
I mean by that is they believe that
Jesus or the Messiah will come right but
not born of a virgin wait a minute you
the scripture believe he coming but you
not don't believe in the scripture they
they didn't believe that because of the
fact they said their lord and king would
not come into
controversy because by Jesus being born
let's say outside of wedlock now you
bought a bastard child into the world
which that's a term that how can you
fault a child for how they came into the
world but they viewed that as
controversy already coming in here this
woman so-called virgin they have a child
outside of her husband they didn't
believe that they also said Jesus was
coming into this world but he would not
come in the city of Bethlehem because
the city of Bethlehem was the lowest of
all the cities he would come in
something like maybe Rome some place
glamorous you know big time they say he
would be born what say in a Manger they
said not our Lord and savior he would
not be born in an unsanitary feeding
trough so there's many things about this
Messiah they did not believe in even him
being wrapped in swalling clothes rags
and strips of cloth and that teaching is
also wrong because that was a common
practice of wrapping a child up it
wasn't that you was poor they WRA child
in those clo didn't have clothes for
kids that small so that's some of the
things they believe but they also taught
this thing called
dualism dualism is they said that the
spirit is pure everybody got that
because the spirit comes from who comes
from God so the spirit has to be pure
the body which is Mortal is sin so their
thoughts in dualism of this my spirit
comes from God but my spirit is placed
the sinful body so any sin I commit in
the body I'm not guilty of it so I can
do everything I want to do all the known
wrong sin all I want to sin but guess
what I'm not guilty of it because it's
not me that's sinning it's the body
because I'm of the spirit so that's some
of the things that they taught and they
also believe that Jesus did not come in
the form that he came in and they use
the scripture as one of the supporting
scripture other words they said that
Jesus was not in the form of a man but
always came in the figure let's say of a
spirit or a ghost
and remember in the other SN the gospel
they said they looked they thought they
saw a ghost walking in the water so they
Ed that to support their scripture they
also use many other scriptures but give
you another one and move on is you
remember when Jesus rose from the grave
and his disciples within that Upper Room
locked away and they said out of nowhere
Jesus appeared unto them and the door
was still locked they said flesh and
blood cannot go through walls but the
spirit can so Jesus never was man he
always was spirit so these some of the
contrary things that they taught but
here the disciples see him walking on
water and they don't know it's Jesus
they think it is a ghost in the other
scripture says and here is called a
spirit it says verse 25 in the Fourth
Watch of the night Jesus went unto them
walking on the
sea that is a miracle ended of itself
isn't it to walk on water but Jesus
shows you here his power showing that he
is God because man cannot walk on the
water you know only the spirit only
Jesus can do that and Jesus Walks On The
Water toward them it says and when the
disciples saw him walking on the water
they were troubled saying it is a spirit
and they cried out for fear s all right
done it I guarantee every one of y'all
see somebody walk across the water y'all
be running the other way even though
they didn't say anything to you we run
isn't amazing how we flock toward the
demonic movies and all these things but
yet something but always afraid you see
the horror movies what happens something
go on they hear a noise and somebody got
a chainsaw cutting somebody up they go
Tommy you hear something let's go see
what that's all about and they go go
straight to it but whenever the angel
something appears everybody gets afraid
here Jesus come because the water and
they said they cry out because of fear
because here the Messiah comes now
walking on the water but as he get
closer guess what he's showing them who
he is and they could have even more
faith in him and in his works and it
says
verse 26 again and when the disciples
saw him walking on the water they cried
saying it is a spirit and they cried for
fear but straightway Jesus spake unto
them saying be of good cheer it is I Be
not
Afraid you always see that with God and
those of God first thing he says don't
be afraid but they always for some
reason had this great fear even though
Jesus had not done anything to them at
this point they don't even know it's
Jesus but Jesus give them some
comforting words there in a troubling
time and that could be preached upon cuz
remember they in the midst of a storm
and Jesus said don't be afraid and if he
see them walking on water surely now he
can possibly save them it said and Peter
answered him and said Lord if it be thou
bid me to come unto thee on the
water let going speed up a little bit
here Peter says if the if you be thou
tell me come on this
water is that a strong testimony
I look at this being a powerful
Testament look what happened next and he
said come and when Peter was come down
out of his ship he walked on the water
to go to
Jesus we always talk about Peter walking
on the water and then he sinks right
well we could get to that oh but this is
some Faith here think about it we never
talk about this the storm is among them
right they've been in there for how many
hours Fourth Watch we know they've been
there for a long time to this point has
anybody ever walked on the water no but
yet he sees Jesus and he tells him tell
me come and I'm going to come out to you
waves are going everywhere the boats
about to sink according to other gospel
and what does this man do he steps out
the
boat people always miss that point about
his faith he truly had Faith to believe
to step up this boat I would say you
throw me a life preserver I might come
to you but I'm not getting out this boat
but yet you'll find here is Peter shows
his faith he steps out the boat to go to
Christ that is Faith true Faith he sees
Jesus walking now he believe I can also
Walk On The Water we talked this thing
before we made jokes about faith we all
say we had Faith
right we all can say that
right but how much Faith do each one of
us have how much do we know about that
we don't know until you go through a
test you can tell me I got faith can you
know can I be compared with okay great
but when you go through that test let me
see how you hold up you know we we
talked about people say getting the job
God has already gave me this job M this
job is mine what are you doing I got to
fill up this other application just in
case this one don't come through so wait
a minute where your faith
at you hear things like that all the
time I've talked about you put a beam in
the air 10 feet a little board and you
say I can walk across that board I know
nothing will happen to me then somebody
tell you walk across it I guarantee you
you won't walk like this you be up there
doing like this
Tony yeah you can see if you go holes
it's like where is your faith but here
you'll find it he shows he has Faith by
going in the water but keep in
mind Paul is a man isn't he Paul is a
human faith can be tested his faith was
tested he believed in Christ but look
what it says half of this it said and
Peter verse 2 and Peter answered him
said Lord if it be thou bid me to come
unto thee on the water and he said come
and when Peter was come down out the
boat he walked on the water to go to
Jesus but when he saw the wind
boisterous he was afraid and began to
sink and he cried saying Lord save
me like any person you should come to do
else around you you know first time fa
for him I'm not I got to put this I'm
not going to defend him totally but we
have to understand that he's out there
walking he said come to me but he looked
around saw what's going on took his a of
Christ guess what his faith started to
waver a little bit he started to go down
but he still has faith because know what
he says Lord save me he has faith
knowing that Jesus can save him but
didn't have faith in his ability to walk
on the water but keep in mind he didn't
have the ability in the first place the
only way he can walk on that water is
through Christ and the power of Christ
that is what sustains him that is what
held him up but once he took his eyes
off the prize guess what that's when he
started to sink but he still had the
mindset to say Lord save me he didn't
yell back at the boat hey guys throw a
rope save me he said to that one that
was walking save me and he goes on to
say and immediately Jesus stretched
forth his hand and C him and said to him
be thou I mean oh thou of little faith
wherefore did thy doubts Jesus as the
question why did you doubt you see me
walking on water he probably reflection
here if you had time to think about it
you saw me earlier feed 5,000 you've
been around when I turned water into
wine you seen me heal this one heal that
one you saw me walk across the water and
for some reason you had this little
faith but it said Jesus reached down and
caught him now imagine that you're in
water right you're sinking and
somebody's standing on the water holding
you
up that is a miracle end of itself and
by Jesus doing this miracle keep in mind
throughout all these lesson what is the
purpose of Jesus doing a miracle we talk
about this over and over what's Jesus
purpose of doing a
miracle so they believe but he's doing
it to show you something often you look
at the gospel Jesus always say this I do
this to I do this unto you for a sign
once again signs are only here to show
you something you know you go to a
building you know and it says
YMCA it's the YMCA it's not the DMB you
know exactly what it is you go to
somebody's office their name is on the
door it's a sign to tell you who it is
they are so Jesus all he doing this is a
sign to show you something to show you
who he is that he himself is God and
verse 32 said and when they were coming
to the ship the wind ceased now here it
says when he come in the ship the wind
ceased do not the gospels add something
to that it says that Jesus got in the
boat and says that peace be still other
words he spoke and it says and the wind
obeyed showing he had power over nature
itself once again another miracle is
being performed but often time we only
look at that walking on water but a lot
of things went on here Jesus now calmed
the storm and the other gospel said when
the storm ceased guess where they were
at immediately at the other side so
other words they're fighting against get
to the shore they can't get there far as
they know they about to drown when Jesus
said peace be still they look wait a
minute we on the shore another miracles
happen but once again it's not in this
text you have look at the other text and
it says and when they were come to the
ship the wind ceased then they that were
in the ship came and worship him saying
of a truth Thou Art what the Son of God
how did they know
[Music]
this because of the Miracles other words
he showed it to them as a that only son
of God could do these things so once
again he only did that Miracle just to
show them something and from that point
on they believe cuz keep in mind we
follow scripture that say today we walk
by what and not by what like uhhuh yeah
sure we do that's what we we can say
because we we have uh we say hindsight
on this but typically guess what people
had to see it to believe it that's why
Miracles was part of Jesus ministry he
had to show it to you if you believe it
but once you believed it after that you
don't have to see it anymore because you
walk by faith and not by sight but up
until that point you have to see it to
believe it Jesus even taught in the
scripture many people had came before
Jesus claiming to be what the Messiah
many people came before Christ but only
one could do these things and even
Nicodemus who did that time didn't
really realize who Jesus was he did say
that we know thou are a man of God cuz
no man can do these Miracles unless God
is with him later he real realized that
guess what he was God himself it says
then verse 33 again then they that were
in the ship came and worship saying of a
truth Thou Art the Son of God 34 say and
when they were gone over they came into
the land of jerat and when the men of
that place had knowledge of him they
said unto all that country round about
and bought unto him all that were
diseased and besought him that they
might only touch the H of His Garment
and as many as touch were made perfectly
hold another scripture is often
overlooked we always talk about that
woman with the issue of blood remember
she did what she touched the him of His
Garment but you'll find outside of this
woman it says as many many people who
touched him's garment they themselves
were made whole but what I want to show
you in close in this verse is this I
said earlier that when Jesus got up in
the morning what he had to do a lot of
work didn't he you notice time he got to
the other side remember he took a little
let's call it a sabatical right remember
when they m great he need some me time
he sent those guys away now the next day
cuz remember this was the fourth watch
now it's another morning 600 in the
morning when he gets there it says they
brought everybody for him to heal it's
like we're back on the Clock Boys time
to get back to work so all his life in
this short Ministry had here he always
was doing the work of the ministry doing
the work of God and we can see from the
very start he stayed busy and to read
through it again it says verse 35 and
when the men of that place had knowledge
of him
they sent out into all that country
round about and brought unto him all
that were diseased and besought him that
they might only touch to him of his gar
and as many as touch were made perfectly
whole this was Jesus day in and day um
out routine this is why always say in
the very beginning he commanded those
disciples to go out get in the boat and
go he said I'm going to the mountain he
spent some time there with his father
because of the work that was before him
and once again he did this miracle and
what was the end
result what's the end result the key
thing remember re Jackson said the story
is important you can't get by that but
the most important thing about the story
is what did he tell you Jesus did a
miracle to show us something once again
he did this miracle and what his
disciples say we know that thou art the
Son of
God that was the whole purpose of him
doing miracles to show you who he was
thing you remember when he testified
before Caiaphas and they asked him the
question said what is your ministry what
is it that that you had preached about
and talked about and he did this ask all
these people here what I did remember
that that was his Witnesses and it said
they smacked him in his face all Jesus
was saying I showed them who I am and we
like to always say if somebody tell you
who they are and somebody show you who
they are you're supposed to do what you
should believe him and this what Jesus
did he talked about who he was and what
he was about and he showed them but yet
many still didn't believe but yet you
have these Pharisees he says Jesus
looked upon them with anger because of
the hardness of their heart all they did
was sit there and said let's sit here
and watch him cuz sooner or later we can
have something that we can bring forth
an accusation with him and we can be
have him as they use the term destroyed
but this is what we're dealing when we
talking about Jesus mighty Miracles now
next week lesson is the last lesson that
we have for this particular unit it
deals with healing and that of
forgiveness and it's coming out of the
Gospel to Mark the 2 chapter: 1-12 um I
haven't looked that far ahead at that
one yet but I'm quite sure the other
gospels have similar things to say about
this same um story that's being brought
forth dealing with healing and what we
call
forgiveness forgiveness that's a tough
one if Helen Miner was in this classro
she in the back she would probably say
it's a tough one for some people they
