Q & A
What is the main theme or focus of the lessons discussed in the script?
-The main theme of the lessons is the concept of the Trinity, specifically exploring the idea that Jesus is God and God is Jesus, and providing confirmations for this idea through various units covering topics like power over death, mighty miracles, and exaltation.
What is the significance of Abraham's seed mentioned in the script?
-The people being addressed took pride in being Abraham's seed, believing that this lineage granted them certain privileges and rights, including salvation. However, Jesus challenged this notion, suggesting that their ancestry alone does not guarantee salvation.
How does Jesus respond when the people claim they have never been in bondage?
-Jesus explains that anyone who commits sin is a servant or slave to sin. He draws a distinction between being a temporary servant in a household, who may be sent away, and being the son who abides forever, referring to himself as the one who can truly set them free from the bondage of sin.
What is the significance of Jesus' statement, 'If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed'?
-This statement emphasizes Jesus' authority and ability to grant true freedom from sin. By claiming to be the Son, he equates himself with God and asserts that through him, genuine liberation can be achieved.
How does the script characterize the relationship between Jesus and the religious leaders (Pharisees, scribes, etc.)?
-The script portrays a contentious relationship, where the religious leaders are envious of Jesus' teachings and authority. They challenge and attempt to discredit him, even accusing him of bringing a new religion contrary to the law. Despite their opposition, Jesus continues to teach and engage with them.
What is the significance of Jesus' statement, 'I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you'?
-This statement highlights the irony and hypocrisy of the people claiming to be Abraham's seed while simultaneously seeking to kill Jesus, whose teachings they reject. It challenges their supposed lineage and reveals their resistance to Jesus' message.
How does the script connect the Old Testament prophecies and the law to Jesus' teachings?
-The script suggests that the religious leaders should have recognized that the Old Testament prophecies and the law pointed to the coming of Jesus as the Messiah. However, they failed to make this connection and instead viewed Jesus' teachings as contrary to the law.
What is the significance of the terms 'verily' and 'truly' used by Jesus in the script?
-When Jesus uses the terms 'verily' and 'truly,' it emphasizes the truthfulness and seriousness of his statements. It signals that he is speaking with authority and wants his listeners to understand the importance of his words.
How does the script portray Jesus' teaching style and approach?
-The script depicts Jesus as engaging in dialogue and teaching sessions, where he welcomes questions and responds to critiques from both believers and non-believers. He uses illustrations and analogies to convey his message and does not shy away from challenging situations or confrontations.
What is the connection between the upcoming Resurrection Sunday and the themes discussed in the script?
-The script mentions that the lessons and discussions are building up to Resurrection Sunday (Easter), as they take place during the Lenten season. The themes of freedom from sin, Jesus' divinity, and his power over death are directly related to the significance of the Resurrection.
Outlines
π Opening Prayer and Reflections
The speaker initiates the session with a morning greeting and an invitation to prayer led by Sandra, emphasizing the collective pursuit of wisdom and understanding of God's word. Gratitude is expressed for the congregation's safe passage through another week and the opportunity to gather on the Sabbath. The prayer seeks guidance and clarity in understanding the Bible's relevance to contemporary life and relationships with God. Following the prayer, a reminder is issued about the importance of personal study and verification of teachings, highlighting an instance of potential miscommunication from a previous session regarding the documentation required for a freed slave. This example underscores the speaker's openness to correction and the value of communal dialogue in seeking truth.
π Introduction to the Spring Quarter Lessons
The speaker outlines the structure of the upcoming Spring quarter lessons, spanning March, April, and May, divided into three units with a focus on 'trinitarianism' - the doctrine of the Trinity. Emphasizing the complexity and historical debates surrounding the Trinity, the speaker advocates for faith-based acceptance of this concept, acknowledging the limitations of human understanding compared to divine wisdom. The presentation aims to explore the unity and distinct roles within the Godhead, challenging conventional representations of hierarchy within the Trinity and emphasizing equality among the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This approach seeks to deepen understanding through scriptural evidence and theological reflection over the course of the lessons.
π Exploring the Concept of Jesus as God
The third segment delves into the core theme of Jesus's divinity, stressing the necessity of faith in accepting Jesus as God. It introduces the lesson's overarching theme: 'Jesus Is God and God is Jesus,' to be explored through various confirmations of Jesus's power over death, mighty miracles, and his exaltation. These elements serve as proofs of Jesus's godhood, intending to solidify believers' faith and understanding of the Trinity. The discussion incorporates biblical references to affirm Jesus's equality with God, aiming to reconcile the seemingly paradoxical nature of the Trinity with scriptural teachings and encourage acceptance of divine mysteries through faith.
π Beginning of the Lesson from the Gospel of John
The speaker transitions to a detailed examination of the Gospel of John, setting the stage for a series of lessons focusing on Jesus's interactions with believers and skeptics alike. By highlighting Jesus's authority and unique teachings, the narrative challenges traditional interpretations and calls into question the very foundations of religious understanding among the Pharisees and scribes. Through a critical incident involving a woman accused of adultery, the speaker illustrates Jesus's method of teaching through action and parable, underscoring his challenges against established norms and the legalistic interpretations of the law by the religious elite. The discussion anticipates a deep dive into Jesus's teachings in the temple, emphasizing his role as a disruptor of conventional religious thought.
π£ Dialogue and Contention in the Temple
This section narrates a dynamic exchange between Jesus and various groups within the temple, underscoring the importance of dialogue in teaching and learning. Jesus addresses both believers and skeptics, offering profound insights into the nature of sin, freedom, and discipleship. The discussion reveals the Pharisees' and scribes' attempts to challenge Jesus, reflecting their envy and resistance to his revolutionary teachings. By asserting that true discipleship comes from adherence to his word, Jesus sets the stage for a deeper exploration of spiritual liberation, challenging conventional beliefs and inviting a reevaluation of what it means to be free from sin.
π€ Towards Understanding Freedom in Christ
The narrative progresses to explore the concept of spiritual freedom as presented by Jesus, emphasizing the distinction between being a servant (slave) to sin and being a son who abides in the house (kingdom) forever. Through this analogy, Jesus highlights the permanence of spiritual liberation achieved through faith in him, contrasting it with the temporal and illusory freedoms associated with adhering to religious law or lineage. This segment explores the complex dynamics of identity, freedom, and obedience within the context of Jesus's teachings, challenging listeners to reflect on their own spiritual journey and the source of true liberation.
π± Closing Remarks and Reflections
In the final segment, the speaker concludes the lesson by reiterating the theme of Jesus's divinity and the challenge it presents to traditional religious thought. The discussion culminates in a reflection on the implications of accepting Jesus as Lord, emphasizing the transformational power of his teachings on concepts of freedom, sin, and discipleship. The speaker addresses the contentious nature of Jesus's message and its reception among the religious authorities of his time, setting the stage for further exploration of his teachings and their impact on both individual believers and the broader religious landscape. The session closes with a call to continued study and reflection on the lessons to be drawn from the Gospel of John.

Transcripts
well good morning to all the saints and
as is our custom as we already know it
is 9 o' so that means it's time that us
stand on our feet as Sandra leads us
in for for a word of prayer and as
always we ask that we all will go to God
In Prayer asking for some portion of
wisdom that we all might be able to
clearly understand what thus saith this
word to us upon this day so shall we
pray father it's once again upon this
hour and upon this day that we each come
to you dear Lord just giving you praise
glory and honor for just being the
awesome God that you are we thank you
once again dear Lord for allowing us to
make through yet another week and to
make it to this day of called the
Sabbath day a day in which you have once
again given us the golden opportunity to
come out as one to study and to dialogue
upon what said this your word as always
dear Lord we ask that you would guide us
direct us and M us in a way that you
would have us to go that we may have
clear understanding of your word for
what went on back then and how it
applies to our life today and what it
all means with our relationship when it
comes to you father bless those that are
here and those that still may be
traveling on their way and for those de
Lord for whatever reason it was this day
they could not be here we are thankful
that you are an omnipresent God that you
are in all places yet at all times for
as in Jesus name we give this prayer
amen amen amen well once again good
morning to everyone and does everyone
have a
book okay good I think everyone has a
book okay let me just start off by
saying this always said in here each and
every week that whatever it is I say to
you that it's best for you to go home
and study it and study it for yourself
because guess what I could be an error I
could make a mistake as I like to say I
try to study hard throughout the week
that what whatever I bring you I don't
make a mistake but sometimes things can
happen so don't be afraid to say keny I
have a question about what was said last
week now why I bring that all up cuz it
happened last week and I I just want to
make sure that everyone here is clear uh
with what we talked about last week I
hate for people to leave with one
thinking one thing and one thing another
because last week I may have misspoken
and what I mean by misspoken you know
sometimes we'll talk about things let's
say using I guess the Bible here let's
say I talk about John and I would say
John did this and John did that and John
did so and so and then I might say John
said so and so and Paul blah blah blah
much wait a minute you said Paul I oh my
mistake I meant to say John because
sometimes
your thought pattern goes that way well
last week to get to where I'm going
here uh I'm must go through you guys to
see can I retrace my steps and did I do
things correctly I put forth this
question and you can answer again this
morning I said when a slave was set
free what was the proof that they had
that they were
free documentation paperwork
correct okay then I thought I said the
only problem that you had with that was
that if you produced that to show you
were free it was very easy for the white
folks to take that piece of paper rip it
up throw it away and what do you have
it's not like today you got backup you
got digital records and they all these
things you had no information showing
that you were free typically you will
find that they wouldn't even allow you
to go back to the original Plantation to
prove it because you were nobody
remember last we weren even consider to
be humans they would just basically take
you carry to another Plantation and put
you once again back into slavery you
know if you ever seen the movie 12 Years
a Slave it was based on that exact
premise well that's what I thought I
said um but it was more to my attention
a person said they studied hard that
week with the statements I made and they
saw where I was in eror and they wanted
to bring to my attention but they didn't
want to challenge me during the class I
said I respect that but there's no
problem with saying hey I got a question
about this because that's what we here
for to talk so never be ashamed with
that that the question was well our
supposedly Miss foken was they said that
I asked the question if a slave was set
free what was the documentation that
they needed to show they were free and
the student said that they said
documentation and paperwork but I said
no and then I kept on
talking I don't remember saying
that I didn't okay well I told them that
I apologize I misspoke but you were
correct that they have to have paperwork
but I thought I made myself clear so I
just want to make sure we all clear that
you have to have paperwork to show that
you were a free slate that's the only
point I wanted to bring up just make
sure we all heard it right because I
could have said the wrong words uh but I
don't just don't didn't recall saying
that but now relationship to our lesson
today we are starting a new series of
lessons we are in what what quarter
spring hasn't gotten it yet but it's the
Spring quarter okay we have 13 lessons
that are covering three months months of
March April and that of May that's
broken down into three separate units
unit one has Five Lessons unit two has
five lessons and unit three has three
lessons and all of these lessons deal
with a very important subject a subject
that in teaching they will call it one
of the isms ism is basically your
Doctrine is teaching of various subject
matter and materials displaying certain
points and so on from there but son
would tell you she educated there's a
lot of isms out there that they teach
and this ISM I'm speaking of is that we
have talked for the last couple of weeks
leading in this that this subject matter
is not actually written out per word in
the Bible but is spoken of throughout
the Bible and that is what's called
trinitarianism trinitarianism speaks of
the unity of the Trinity so we're
speaking of the godhead we're talking
about the one divided into three but yet
in unity they make one the three molded
into one in the unity which mixed up was
called the godhead and that is a subject
matter that people have been baffled
with for years even to this day there's
different ideas and opinion about what
is the Trinity the three but yet one
each one and one the same and so on from
there well the thing of the Trinity is
this you can't explain it in a sentence
you can't explain it in a phrase it's
something that has to be taught you
could say actually in a series over a
period of time to get the true
understanding of it because there's a
lot of dynamics that go into play there
but regardless what I found in the end
people still leave with differen of
opinion so My Philosophy has always been
this in the end you have to just accept
it as it is on faith and the reason why
that's how the Bible tells you about it
accept it as God has put it on faith
some things we can't understand because
thinking is
finite other words our thinking is
limited we can only go so far without
our concept and with our thoughts and we
only can think of things on our level
not God's level God has said that my
ways are not your ways my thoughts are
not your thoughts for my thoughts are
high above in the heavens goes on to say
by the heaven itself that I have not
seen ear not heard nor have entered into
the heart of man things God have
prepared for them so in other words we
can't begin to think on certain things
and guess we have to do with the Bible
then Pi it on faith as what it is but we
will be talking about this thing known
as the Trinity throughout this
particular um quarter that we have
because the trinity in it of itself was
speaking of being together as one
because you remember Christ himself
thought in not what robbery they call
himself what equal under God he didn't
say was above God he didn't say was
beneath God he said he was equal with
God you'll find often times when the
Trinity is taught they would give it to
you in the uh diagram of a tri triangle
you know triangle has what three points
right and typically you'll find they'll
put God at the top they'll put the sun
on one side and the Holy Spirit on the
other when they do it that way it
creates what's called a hierarchy so
you're saying God is the head of it but
if you look in scripture God looks at
the unity of the Trinity as all being
the same this is why some would take
those points and not put it at the
points they'll put it on the sides or
either to get rid of the triangle and
they'll make a circle because they say
in the Trinity they all are yet one no
one's above the other this is why Jesus
even said to his disciples remember he
was teaching for a long period of time
talking about the father and they said
Master which means teacher they said
show us the father that it may suffice
us other words they say show us God that
we can be satisfied and Jesus only
response to them was he said how long
had you been with me he said know you
not that when you seen me you have what
seen the father but but then he says
these words because I and my father are
what one he said we are one and the same
and plenty other scripture comes along
to help support that understanding but
we'll be covering that throughout these
next 13 weeks but in the opening of our
lesson you'll find that we have a
theme our overall theme is that of Jesus
what is God if you might recall and make
sure I don't I don't misspeak on this
one
if you might recall back in unit 2 we
did a lesson was saying God honoring
families and I said you look at this I'm
going give you from a different way even
though we look at as God honoring
families I said I need to volunteer to
read this and read it backwards and I
think s you was the one who read it when
it said God's honoring families we said
if you read it backwards it's families
honoring God today's lesson is somewhat
similar because since we're talking
about
trinitarianism the title says what
Jesus Is God if you read it backwards
what you get God is Jesus and that's
what it all deals with Jesus Is God and
God is Jesus some people I can't accept
that I don't understand it well guess
what you got to accept it as Faith
because that's what the Bible talks
about in being and in the order of our
lessons we're dealing with the overall
concept of Jesus Is God and you look at
it one of the ways of proving that Jesus
is God and God is Jesus you have to have
what's called confirmation
just like when people are call to the
ministry they say you have to have a
confirmation of your calling through
others and so on from there but the
confirmation we're having is throughout
each and every unit because if you look
at each and every unit the first word
they talk about is the confirmation of
it so I'm going read to you now our
overall theme forward and backwards and
then we're going to point to the theme
of each unit and you see how it all
comes together as it starts off we say
Jesus is God and God is Jesus and unit
one how do we know this it's confirmed
by what power over
death only God could do that only Jesus
could do that Jesus raised from the dead
God even raised from the dead because
you remember Jesus laid down his life
did he not and it says who raised him up
God raised them up and we know that
Jesus raised many from the dead and
Jesus says that death has no Victory
death has no sting he showed by his
confirmation that guess what Jesus Is
God and God is is Jesus we move to our
unit number two which deals with Jesus
Is God and God is Jesus the confirmation
comes in confirmed by what Mighty
Miracles now you say Mighty Miracles if
my programming here is right it says
that Miracle is written 27 times in the
King James
translation the word signs is written 53
times in the King James translation
because you'll find that the Miracles
was was the actual action but what Jesus
wanted to show you was why was the
miracle done in the first place because
Jesus always said I did this as a what
as a sign and what is the purpose of a
sign let me leave and what's the purpose
of a sign
today Direction guidance it shows you
what things are plain and simple that's
what a sign has done it's there to show
you something to explain something to
you you know you would go to a
courthouse building it says municipal
courthouse building you don't go there
BR say oh is this food line you would
say the sign says municipal courthouse
building you go to another building it
might say Department of Motor Vehicles
and below that it has the acronyms of
DMV you don't go to that wall and say is
this the YMCA you said what does a sign
say it lets you know that it is the
Department of Motor Vehicles you go into
people offices wherever they may be
before you walk in the office there's a
name and a title on the door it's a sign
to show you something Jesus did the
Miracles for one purpose to show you he
was God and that God is Jesus even they
didn't really believe in Jesus to be
what he was but you can see they were
getting to that point when Nicodemus
himself says we know that thou are a
great man come from God a great teacher
for no man doth these Miracles unless
what God be with him
so you can see how it all ties together
there throughout but then we do another
confirmation where Jesus Is God and God
is Jesus in the very last unit it says
this is confirmed how by his
exaltation by his being lifted up by him
being praised by him being worshiped
because it says in the Bible what the
day shall come when every knee shall bow
and every tongue shall confess that he
is what Lord and you have no other
choice because guess what whether you
believe in Jesus or not he is your lord
and there is no what denying that so you
may not accept him but he is still your
lord and there's many things the world
that we we can't deny you I'm reminding
there how we as a people often times to
about we have secrets right but do we
really have secrets kind of makes you
wonder I remember I told you before I
watched this movie
where this man was telling another man a
secret and he says to him besides you
and me who knows about this and the man
said seven other people know he said
that's not a secret that's information
it's all that it is but what I'm getting
at is that when you talk about Jesus
being your God there is no denying you
can't deny it there is no change in that
I'm going to tell you a a personal story
now I might have told this before and I
have no problem with telling it even
though guess what people think it's a
secret but it's no secret okay and you
can see where I'm going with this and
you can apply to your life I'm G give
you personal testimony I'm talking about
my
family Linda will back me up on this
one we were taking care of my
grandmother before she passed it was 13
of them only three of them are left now
actually one of her sisters came here
last first Sunday uh to visit but I can
remember when my grandmother one of her
sisters
passed as they had the funeral you know
your family comes in her children came
in with her all the children came in
they walked on this side there was one
sibling who came in she was on this side
can you figure out already what's going
on you read the
obituary guess what the siblings names
are mentioned the children names I
mentioned this one daughter her name
wasn't mentioned she was over on that
side and here's the thing everybody in
Owens Funeral Home knew that that's
their sister but some people think it's
still a
secret but here's the point I'm getting
to Linda would tell you my grandma that
fight say she could be at time she gave
some powerful words on this thing and
she gave that you know that old let's
call it broken English she said they can
say what they want but that's a Mama and
ain't no changeing
that other words she saying you can't
deny it no matter what you can't deny
that that's your mother and that's your
daughter and that's what it comes to be
when I talk about Jesus being exalted
many don't accept Jesus as their Lord
but guess what you don't have to accept
him but you can't deny it because he's
Lord of all and we going to see
throughout these 13 lessons how Jesus Is
God and God is Jesus doe through the
various confirmations that we have here
today now in order of our lesson today
we're starting in the Gospel of John now
the go Gospel of John is the fourth in
the series of the books known as the
gospels the first three books of the
Gospel actually Matthew Mark and Luke
they are called the synoptic gospels
they are called the synoptic gospels
because they are so similar in style and
context of writing other words each one
kind of says the same thing but one
might add to it which one didn't say or
another one might say the same thing but
might give you more clarity or one might
combine the other two stories but show
you something that you never seen before
but they all are similar they call this
gospels but when you add John in John
mix what you call now the full gospels
and today we're coming out of writings
of John now typically when we start a
new series of lessons I have to give you
what a deep introduction don't I to set
the stage for where the writing is going
for the next 13 weeks but based on what
we already talked about we already got
the synopsis of where they're going with
this now our lesson starts in chapter8
so we already know what's missing right
seven chapters before this but guess
what read those for yourself because I'm
not going over those either what I will
do is I will likely hit the introduction
of chapter 8 then mind you how am I
gonna hit this lightly so a lot of
things I'm gonna just skip over okay so
don't look at say can you you didn't
bring up this you didn't bring up that I
intended not to bring up that but the
way this starts off is
this Jesus had to cond contend with many
people especially the Pharisees the
scribes who was the so-called lawyers
the editors trans the law the Sadducees
so on many people that didn't believe in
him because they looked at Jesus as
being ult leader they called them those
of the Nazarene set Jesus was from
Nazareth they said those of the of the
way they didn't give Christian a name at
this point because to give something a
name you're now giving it substance
you're now giving it validity you're
never give something that people can
follow so they say don't give it a name
just call it some cult out there is what
it is but this man has to be stopped so
often times what they would do is they
would come to challenge Jesus and his
teachings because they were very envious
of Jesus they wanted what he had but
didn't want Jesus to have it they knew
that Jesus taught with power and
authority and thought in ways that they
could not even imagine but guess what we
need to pull this guy in because he's
teaching things that are contrary to the
law because that's all they knew but the
problem with these educated folks is
they should have known that the law and
the Old Testament prophecies pointed to
this day even coming in the first place
so several times you would hear me say
throughout this quarter Jesus had or Not
Jesus but the Pharisees the religious
leaders had the Messiah right in front
of them and they didn't even recognize
it so Jesus had to contend with these
people so often time they would come to
challenge him for various reasons how
they start out is following their
levitical law in Leviticus they get a
law dealing with what's called adultery
here you'll find they have apprehended a
Woman They said was caught in the very
Act of adultery they taken this
individual now and brought him or her to
Christ to say what is Moses say and what
you can do about this but the problem is
they're not after Justice they had to
try to make this man look bad but there
were several problems with this scenario
they put in place the first one is the
law talked about being in adultery right
that you are to bring them before you
for the
council they only bought a woman if she
was caught in act you left somebody out
so already you're starting off on the
wrong foot and another reason I said
they start off wrong foot is that only
the Sanhedrin had the authority
Sanhedrin was uh the 72 members that
made up the I guess you call it their
Supreme Court that the Sanhedrin they
judge various matters in the community
based upon the religious laws and so on
they were the ones who could pass
judgment but now you have taken this
woman and bought to somebody according
you has no position has no power and no
Authority and you want them to pass
judgment and we know what happened with
the rest of that story but to speed
along after this event happens then
Jesus goes
to the temple to do his usual teaching
sessions and he has Believers there in
him he has non-believers in him he also
has Pharisees there and he has scribes
there and so on from there but I'm not
going to divide them in all these
various groups because when it comes
down to there's only two groups you have
Believers and nonbelievers you can name
him anywh you like but that's all that
comes down to Believers and nonbelievers
so now Jesus is speaking to this crowd
that's before him he starts off in this
very first verse of John 8:31 he says
then said Jesus to those Jews which
believed on
him so immediately Jesus speaking to
who the Believers but they believed on
on who they believe in him they belied
in Jesus and his teachings and the
things that he was bringing forth and
that was a good position to be in I
would say it's a very easy thing you
think it is to speak to people who want
to hear what you have to say isn't it
they come there to hear you you're like
oh I got a good crowd here today it's
quite different to come before a group
that guess what don't want to hear what
you have to say that is a hard thing but
I think for Jesus he actually relished
the opportunity to speak to these people
also because if you think about it the
Pharisees and scribes did not believe
him
right these people were very respected
right and looked up in the community
because of the way in which They Carried
themselves very Pious in their attitudes
strict adherers of the law some even
call them the religious police they were
very educated everyone like I said would
gather around to hear their teachings as
they expanded unto them the law so what
better group to have in helping ad
ministering the the you could say
spreading of the Gospel then the
Pharisees and the Sadducees people
already love them and already follow
them so this is a good group here to
have have but even though they don't
believe Christ still does what give them
the word also because there's nothing
like saving these folks too it's just
like the other week when the pastor
preach on how Paul had to speak before
uh the false King at that time um he was
a false King but he was King Ag grippa
and when Paul finished Agrippa said you
know something you almost afed me to be
a Christian other words almost but
that's the power you have when you're
facing some that you could say don't
want to hear your word but the word
still has to do what go forth to those
Believers and non-believers Jesus didn't
stop because he had a couple of hecklers
that question him he would always answer
that question give them a question and
try to bring them into fold also so
sometimes we have to get out of our what
comfort zone let me ask you a question
if you had to I don't know be in a sport
I'mma use boxing you know I'm a boxing
analysis here or could use chest but I
use boxing you rather have homec court
advantage or you rather play
away home court advantage home home
court advantage that's right everybody
want home court advantage now here's the
next question W for everybody why do you
want home court
advantage your
people what you're saying is correct and
what you're also saying is that's your
comfort zone you are comfortable in that
situation of being around people that
you can speak to but when it comes to
the word guess what often time you got
to move out of that comfort zone because
everybody here easy to talk to but
talking to those folks out in the street
is a whole different thing reason why I
brought that up in top of boxing a boxer
said it this way one time they said in
facing your opponent you want to face
him in your hometown or his
hometown his remarks was I rather face
him in his hometown And the reporter
like huh and the discussion went forth
he said the fight at home home some said
it's nothing like walking down that
aisle 30,000 people cheering your name
30,000 people waving hands at you 30,000
people say they got money on you they
didn't know you're going to take him out
and they're just lifting you up the
whole entire time you people love that
he said but you know what I like I like
fighting in their Hometown he says
there's nothing like coming to that ring
and 30,000 people are curing you out
30,000 people are pointing their finger
you 30,000 people want to spare on you
30,000 people said we bet money against
you to go down and he says these words
oh but when that bell rings and I go and
down he goes to he 30,000 people
go he says there's no greater feeling
than the world he said because now I've
won them over I proved something to them
for him that was his comfort zone and
sometimes guess what many times in
Christianity you got to go outside that
comfort zone because Jesus knows that
he's speaking to those who support him
and those who don't and as he is
teaching here you'll find those who
don't they have something to say but
Jesus said here then said Jesus to those
which believed on him if you continue in
my word come out they stop there here's
where the non-believers have a problem
with him especially the religious order
he said if you believe in whose
word his
word my
word exactly that's what looking for
wait a minute he's coming forth with his
own word that's supposed to be God where
he's supposed to be bringing forth but
once again where are they stuck at not
it's a bad thing they're stuck in the
Old Testament they haven't realize the
Old Testament for tals of the new the
new is fulfilling of the old he's
talking about himself in this present
time with everything pointed to but yet
they couldn't see it so they look at
Jesus name as bringing this new religion
that's going to change the law and
everything but Jesus told them I didn't
come to change the law I didn't come to
destroy the law he said I came to with
one thing that is to fulfill the law and
he was that living law himself but but
yet they could not see this they had a
problem with this man of this Nazarene
sect of those of the way coming there
and bringing forth his own word and
here's the worst part about the whole
thing people are believing this stuff
people are following it so they felt it
was in their best wishes for their
envious ways to put a stop to it so this
is why they question he says if you
believe um which believe in him if you
continue in my word he said then are you
my disciples what indeed so other words
if you continue in this word by knowing
his word you're going to be a disciple
of Christ you could be a student you
could be a learner you're going to be a
follower and to be those things you're
going to present yourself in a different
way where people know that you're G to
be his disciple his disciple indeed it's
kind of like um today is if I'm not
mistaken this is the 10th day of Lent as
we know lent is a Latin word for 40 it
starts on what's called Ash Wednesday
when you take the ashes from the
previous year Palm Le they burn them and
they put them on our head as we ask God
for repentance and remission of our sins
on this 10th day of Lent you'll find
that when you get to that last week is
called what
week what's what's the last week of L
call Holy Week and that last week
There's A Day called Monday Thursday not
Monday through Thursday but Monday
Thursday Monday Thursday is Latin for
new or what we call the love commandment
this is when Jesus was having the
Passover meal with his disciples he says
that I give you a new commandment that
as I have loved you ye love one another
therefore men will know that you are my
disciples and you be my disciples indeed
other words by your actions by your ways
they will see these things Jesus saying
now that if you continue in my word if
you continue in my word then are you my
disciples indeed but you have to follow
whose word his word not the words of
these false teachers here that bringing
things up and then he goes on and say
and ye shall know the truth and the
truth shall what shall make you free I
look at this as a twofold twofold
process here keep in mind he just say
you know the word right it said make you
free what he speaks of there by knowing
this word and adhering to his word you
know that Jesus is the Christ which
means the anointed the appointed of God
and that he is Messiah and that if you
truly repent of your sins and you know
him and believe in him guess what you
are saved from your sins and you have
life and life
eternal it goes on to say and you should
know the truth and guess what by knowing
this truth it shall make you what you're
free and he's talking about the free
from that of sin and that of the Eternal
death is what he speaks of that's how it
will make you free another way to look
at is too it says here and you shall
know the truth by by studing his word
right if you shall know the truth and
the truth shall make you free you can
also look at that is that being Jesus
replace truth with Jesus because Jesus
says later on in the same writings of
John I think it's around the 14th
chapter he says these words I am the way
the truth and what the life he said no
man come to the father but by me so you
look at that you would say read it this
way and you shall know Jesus and Jesus
shall what make you free there's a play
on words there because remember when you
write a letter is each chapter a
different
letter you find no it's not it's one GI
letter so later he explains himself by I
am that truth that shall make you free
and this is all he's pointing to but he
goes on and says they answered him uhoh
here we go which nothing's wrong with
this because look at the setting I
always said look at the setting when
we're teaching the setting is this Jesus
is doing what to these people at this
point he's teaching he just gave a few
statements right and what
happens we critics but they answering
back that's what a teaching session is
all about dialogue back back and forth
and like I said I can't wait for the day
me back I'm messing up already I can't
wait for day when we get by the co
because guess what God I'm going to walk
this all down this in and I'm gonna come
back around the other side and I'll
makee you talk because I love the
dialogue love the feedback forward and
backward and Jesus now is getting this
very same thing himself but these words
that he gave they say these words they
answered him we be Abraham's seed and we
were never in bondage to any man how
sayest thou ye shall be made free well
the answer back
for the Abraham side of it they
basically said that we Abraham's seed we
were never in bondage so how can you say
now we would be set
free I didn't agree with the writer of
the expository book here this is why
always good to study what you read um I
see where it was going but I don't
follow that ideology he was saying in
this writing that it's obvious that the
children of Israel um have forgotten all
about or didn't know about how they were
in slavery years earlier in Egypt they
obviously forgotten about they were in
slavery years ago the Babylonians so
that's why they made this statement I
disagree there because it shouldn't have
Israel were people who knew their
history we talk about this they knew it
forward and backwards they always was
rehearsed before them at all times so
they knew what was going on here what
he's speaking of this person speaking of
I would say is that in present day we
have not been slaves it's kind of like
saying say ourselves we never been in
bondage some say wait y'all was in
slavery hundreds of years years black
people folk you said no my ancestors
were but I wasn't he's speaking of they
themselves they had not been in slavery
now at this point you can say they being
oppressed because the Roman Empire rules
over them but the Roman Empire doesn't
have them in slavery they just got them
confined you could say those but they
could live their lives so what he speaks
of when he gives those words is he's
talking to me that at this point in time
I have never been in slavery so how you
going to set me free because to be set
free I had to be a slave and I'm not a
Slave but as we know we get on further
he going to move a little further in
that but one of the things that set the
stage here he speaks about Abraham seed
that was one of their they call it
themselves their crowning achievement is
that they were of the Seed of Abraham
and by being the Seed of Abraham they
had certain Privileges and rights that
others did not have first and foremost
they held on to by being Abraham seed I
have my salvation it's a done
deal which we know it doesn't work that
way of course they added into the
circumcision the laws and other things
along the way but they never want to put
Christ in that but you find Abraham SE
me a lot but Abraham doesn't mean what
you think he means you know I had this
conversation somewhat this week with a
gentleman at work he always ask a lot of
questions which is good young young guy
he's he's getting there where he ask a
lot of questions that he's not
knowledgeable of and I say it's a good
thing you don't know you supposed to do
what he supped to ask somebody and the
conversation came up he said about
dealing with the Muslims and nation of
Israel you know the fighting and gods
and all that so I was explain some
things to him back in the time he said
yeah but so Abraham wasn't Muslim he was
Jewish right I said well actually he
wasn't Jewish and that brought the
conversation on so how's Abraham not
Jewish I said well let me give you two
stories I said I'm G give give y'all a
quick I said first of all when the
kingdom had divided Nebuchadnezzar the
king of Babylon remember that Babylon
part came in and conquered Judah and in
Judah you'll find that they took them
into captivity to Babylon instead of
call them judeans they called them Jews
for short which was more of a derogatory
term but they came to embrace it years
later and I said unfortunately like we
call ourselves I don't but people are
you know we shouldn't Embrace
that but people do you know we say it
all the time we're black and proud but
I'm a like no those two do not go
together I said but that's where the
term Jew came from with Judah
I said now let me back up a little bit
Abraham came from What's called the land
of of the calans which changed their
name later to
Babylon Babylon actually technically I
think that's
Iran is where he came from then he moved
course my God moved to the land of
Canaan I said but forget all that here's
what you need to understand when you say
Abraham's a Jew I said
Abraham had a son named Isaac and he
said yep I said okay that means Isaac is
his what he say son I said that means
Abraham is his what he said father I
said you are correct I said Isaac had
two sons but we G break it down to one
that one son was Jacob right he said
okay gotcha I said that means Jacob is
what to Abraham he said that's his
grandfather I said right so that means
Abraham is his grandfather Jacob is his
grandson that's what Jacob went on to
have children right one of them was
named
Judah that means Judah was Abraham's
what great grandson which mean Abraham
was his great
grandfather I said that person was the
one I spoke to you earlier that was
named Judah which they called
Jew so how is Abraham a Jew when Abraham
came before him and he was hundreds of
years you could say after him that's
kind of saying I heard a man once say
man I saw your son you look just like
your son do y'all catch that you know
you look just like your son you're like
no my son looks like me because I was
here before you Abraham was actually
considered to be a Hebrew at that time
Jews did not exist so technically guess
what you can't say he is a Jew because
he is the progent of nation all things
started with him to put that title upon
him actually you're bringing him down CU
now you put the great grandson above the
progenitor of the Nations I said this is
the Deep history of the Bible but once
again they love that history and they
believed in Abraham and all things
revolved around him it said then we be
Abraham's seed and we will never EMB
bonish any man how sayest thou you shall
be made free it says what Jesus did what
you see the classroom session going on
here Jesus teach a multitud of folks in
his Temple he as he's saying things they
ask question Jesus now answering back
but it says Jesus answered back said
verily verily I say unto
you Reverend Jackson told her what that
mean doesn't he it means what truly
truly see other words whenever Jesus
spoke he gave you what truth he didn't
play with those words he was always
serious about it and when I said at Rose
Hall I can remember you said some
powerful words in you one day she said
it about her nephew Anthony Hall she
said whenever Anthony talk oh he's
serious and he G tell you the truth you
get the point you follow certain folks
like that Jesus never came along and
tried to mince words or or get people
tripped up he told them the truth and
wanted them to hear it you know we joked
about this many times in here of how you
can have a group of guys together and
the guys get together ladies the first
thing they would talk about man let me
tell you something and this ain't no lie
and when we hear that some guy will say
well what he say let me put my pants up
it's getting a little Deep In Here let
put my boots on because they know you're
telling a fail but when the older folk
come and tell you so let me tell you
some truth here they wanted you to
understand something they wanted you to
know something so they would repeat it
twice by saying verily verily that this
is a true statement I'm giving here
because they want you to take in what's
being said Jesus says them I say unto
you whosoever committed sin is a servant
of sin now you have to back this up what
was talked about earlier about how they
said how we are slaves Jesus talking
about being a slave to your sin because
he says whosoever committed sin now when
he speaks of here um as far as whosoever
committed
sin that word servant is used two ways
in the Bible sometimes you were an
actual servant let's say who worked in a
home or household but then also that
word servant depends upon the
application which it was used you were a
slave here is used in the sense that
guess what you are a slave it's speaking
of those who are slave to sin and the
ramification that can come from it such
as Jesus brother said let not a man said
when he is tempted that he is tempted of
God for God tempteth no man with evil
but yet when a man is tempted he is
drawn away of his own lust and entice
and when lust have conceived is bringing
forth sin and sin when is finished bring
it forth but one thing he said and that
is death that's individual that's a
slave to that sin Paul himself very
honest man always told you history when
you try to use against somebody
persecute the church he said oh let me
tell you what I did to the church oh he
will go in a whole list of all the bad
things he did but then he would show you
say look what God has done for me now
Paul even wrestled some things himself
Paul talked about said you know there's
some things that I should be doing he
said but I'm not doing them he said
there some things that
I well I not supp be doing them but I'm
doing those he said to the point that no
longer am I'm in control of it he says
sin has actually taken control of me and
then he later on says in the script he
said oh the Wretched Man that I am you
heard the term when he says that The
Wretched Man he give you the exact words
he says something to affect
the when he speaking of him being in sin
he
says the things that I should do I do
the things that I what shouldn't be
doing I'm
doing and then he says old The Wretched
Man that I am I trying to think the
exact words and way he put He put a
little bit different oh he says this
where he says for the good that I would
I do not the evil that I would not that
I do now if I do that I would not is no
more I that sin but guess what sin that
dwelleth in Me Oh The Wretched Man that
I am Paul let know guess what I have
become unfortunately a slave to sin but
then he goes on to say later but I have
an advocate with the father that
mediator and the only mediator and
that's is Jesus Christ himself so this
what he's speaking of being a slave to
sin he said the servant abideth in the
house forever
ever and the son abideth ever the
servant abideth not in the house forever
and but the son abideth ever what he
speaks of here in these words is that
servant remember speaks of a slave that
lives in sin but before we get to that
part of it you look at the material
parts of the day what he speaks of now
is that a slave will not always be in
the house because there come a point in
time that slave going to be gone they s
you off and you go
but guess what the son always has a home
so when you put that to the spiritual
speaks of that slave is being a slave to
sin you should not enter into this house
but the son always going to be in the
house Jesus is talking about himself by
saying that he will always abide in
heaven but sin will not he will not be a
part of this household we talk many time
about we have these Unwritten rules in
our home don't we and if people keep
breaking those rules or not adhering to
those rules what soon happens they got
to go but guess what the sun always
stays in the house so Jesus here now
shows that great disconnect by those who
are servant of sin he goes on to say in
verse 36 if the son therefore shall make
you free you shall be free indeed now
all this I'm about to close it out
running out of time goes back to his
first statement when he says truly truly
I say unto you you taking all the thing
we just talked about and in the end
Jesus basically saying here I guarantee
it because he said if the son therefore
shall make you free ye shall be free
indeed so when he gives those words by
free indeed he's saiding I'm telling you
the truth and guess what I guarantee it
and Jesus does guarantee it because in
the Book of Numbers it says that God is
not a man that he should lie neither the
son of man that he should repent has he
not said and shall he not do it has he
not spoken and shall he not make it true
and Jesus and God is what one so he can
freely say those statements to round
things out but unfortunately for the
sake of time we have to shut it off but
I'm G to pick up some of this next week
because it's very important in where
this L is going so I'm stopping right
now at verse 36 if the sun shall make
you free you shall be free indeed yes
you shall be free indeed if you do what
what's the first thing he said earlier
if you follow whose words he said my
words which is God's word because our
whole entire theme deals with what Jesus
Is God and God is Jesus now give you
just thought to think about he says this
I know that you are Abraham's seed
remember they brought that up earlier
and that was a great sense of Pride he
said I know that you Abraham seeds he
said but you seek to kill me because my
word has no place in you now he doesn't
say this but for me it's implied based
upon what's said later but I'mma leave
with this thought Jesus basically says
I'mma add to it Jesus basic said these
words I know that you are Abraham's seed
so what
that's pretty much what he's saying and
I'll show you that very quickly next
week as we go to the next lesson because
they looked at that with such a great
sense of Pride but Jesus is like and so
what you know has Abraham saved you when
you look at it no he hasn't but they
always go back to Abraham and what
Abraham has done like the pastor
preaches many times don't think for one
minute big mama in heaven and she can
get you
in you know based upon what somebody
else has done cuz keep in mind they
based everything upon on Abraham that I
have my salvation and Jesus said well I
know you're the Seed of Abraham but
guess what you're trying to kill me and
lastly who's trying to kill him let me
give you idea Pastor beams is in the
pole pit who's trying to kill
him the church is trying to kill him but
yet they say they of who they of God
this is what Jesus deals with you want
to kill me and here I am speaking to
so-called Believers the saints of God
but now you want to murder man and we
know the rest of the story when Jesus
goes to the cross and so on from there
but all that's all this is actually supp
building up to Resurrection Sunday
because remember we in the lint season
but just remember that last week we
closed out with I know that you are
Abraham se but you seek to kill me
because my word have no place in you
things is getting heated here I don't
want to give too much away but after
this they call Jesus a racist slur after
this they making this thing personal so
it's get heated in this particular class
unlike this class we don't get heated in
here okay they got heated with Jesus and
challeng him don't get heated with me
you but that's our lesson for today so
look over those verses for this week
lesson as your homework and of course
please read next week lesson entirely
because this lesson I'm just G to finish
it off very briefly next week we you'll
just cover some things for that but with
that being said let's close out today as
we close out Di and Hall if you will
with always with your serious words as
your aunt says give us a closing word of
prayer to bring us into this worship
service
