Highlights

Introduction to live streaming on Instagram using StreamYard, made possible by the API change in December 2023.

StreamYard allows live streaming to multiple platforms like Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and LinkedIn from a desktop, not just a mobile device.

To get started, sign up for a StreamYard account, log in, and verify your email with a 6-digit code.

Before connecting Instagram, make sure your account is either a Creator or Business account, as personal accounts can't live stream.

Make sure to enable the 'Save Live to Archive' option in Instagram settings so that your live streams are automatically saved.

Connect your Instagram account to StreamYard through the 'Add Destination' tab and log in with your Instagram credentials.

When setting up a live stream, create a title in StreamYard and copy it to the Instagram live stream setup for consistency.

Obtain the Instagram stream key from Instagram's live video setup and paste it into StreamYard to link both platforms.

After creating the live stream, go to StreamYard's studio and set up your camera, audio, and optional virtual background.

When ready, click 'Go Live' in StreamYard, and ensure that both the Instagram and StreamYard tabs are open.

Mute the Instagram tab to avoid audio feedback, but rest assured that your audience on Instagram will still hear you.

You can add elements like screen shares, banners, and guest speakers in StreamYard, which will display on the Instagram live stream.

While live streaming, comments from Instagram won't appear in StreamYard, so keep the Instagram tab open to monitor and reply.

Once finished, you can end the live stream from both StreamYard and Instagram, and save the recording in Instagram's archive or on your device.

Instagram live streams can be repurposed by downloading the saved video from Instagram or StreamYard, and then shared as reels.

Transcripts

play00:00

hey there and welcome to my latest video my nameĀ  is Anita and I'm going to show you today how toĀ Ā

play00:05

live stream using streamyard to your InstagramĀ  account yep you heard me right so normally onĀ Ā

play00:11

Instagram you can only live stream via yourĀ  mobile phone but in December 2023 InstagramĀ Ā

play00:19

opened up the what's known as the API inĀ  other words the gateway to the InstagramĀ Ā

play00:24

live streaming options and they opened it up toĀ  any multi streaming app that we have out on theĀ Ā

play00:30

marketplace now I use streamyard but there areĀ  other apps out there that you can use such asĀ Ā

play00:35

restream ecam wave. video I'm going to show youĀ  in this video how to actually use streamyard toĀ Ā

play00:43

live stream into Instagram so as you can seeĀ  from the screen here is streamyard so if youĀ Ā

play00:48

haven't already got an account grab the link fromĀ  below this video and you can sign up now when youĀ Ā

play00:53

do sign up you do need to log in so when you clickĀ  login it's going to ask you for your email addressĀ Ā

play01:00

go ahead and add your email address and clickĀ  the login code now streamyard has a file saveĀ Ā

play01:06

so you do have to check your email so I justĀ  wanted to show you that because if you are newĀ Ā

play01:09

to streamyard and you're not sure where to findĀ  this six-digit code you do need to go into yourĀ Ā

play01:15

email to look for it just copy it from yourĀ  email and then come here and click paste andĀ Ā

play01:21

it will fill that in for you now when you firstĀ  log in you'll land on the homepage which is whereĀ Ā

play01:26

your streams and recordings will be found whatĀ  we want to do first is go to the destination TabĀ Ā

play01:32

and add on your Instagram account as you canĀ  see from mine I have my Facebook my LinkedInĀ Ā

play01:36

and my YouTube connected but I don't have myĀ  Instagram now just so that you know when weĀ Ā

play01:42

add the Instagram account to streamyard youĀ  will need to log into your Instagram accountĀ Ā

play01:47

through streamyard using your username and yourĀ  password so let's go and see how this happensĀ Ā

play01:55

okay so let's click on add a destination now asĀ  as you can see here we've got this option to goĀ Ā

play02:02

to Instagram live now so go ahead and click theĀ  Instagram live button now it's going to ask youĀ Ā

play02:09

for your Instagram username so go ahead and putĀ  the exact username in and click add Instagram

play02:16

live oh my Instagram account was connected soĀ  I didn't actually need my password but that mayĀ Ā

play02:24

be because I'm already logged in to my InstagramĀ  account on my browser so if you do see the needĀ Ā

play02:30

to put a password in then make sure you add itĀ  otherwise do what I did log into your InstagramĀ Ā

play02:36

account on your browser before you do thisĀ  and then you don't need to actually put yourĀ Ā

play02:41

password in so just to check that it's in thereĀ  click the destination option and as you can seeĀ Ā

play02:47

Instagram has now been connected okay so that'sĀ  the first part of how to go live on InstagramĀ Ā

play02:54

using streamyard okay so now that we've connectedĀ  the destinations we need to make sure that weĀ Ā

play02:59

we've done two things on our Instagram app theĀ  first one is that your account is not a personalĀ Ā

play03:05

account that it is a professional account soĀ  if you see the professional dashboard on theĀ Ā

play03:10

front like you can see on my screen now then youĀ  already are using a professional account if youĀ Ā

play03:16

don't see that then if you go up to the top rightĀ  hand corner where there three little lines areĀ Ā

play03:21

and go to settings and privacy and scroll downĀ  where it says for professionals click that andĀ Ā

play03:28

down the bottom you can see Switch Account type soĀ  if you're on a personal account you will get theĀ Ā

play03:32

option to switch to either a business account orĀ  a Creator account you do need to be on a CreatorĀ Ā

play03:38

account or a business account in order for youĀ  to live stream using streamyard into InstagramĀ Ā

play03:44

so once you've done that the only other thingĀ  you need to do is come back to the hamburgerĀ Ā

play03:50

area again and go to settings and privacy againĀ  and scroll down until you get to the archivingĀ Ā

play03:59

and downloading option click on that and makeĀ  sure that you have the save live to Arch archiveĀ Ā

play04:06

switched on what that will do is that at the endĀ  of your live stream on Instagram you will haveĀ Ā

play04:12

the option to close the window down and when youĀ  close the window down your live stream will beĀ Ā

play04:20

saved into Instagram for you in the archive andĀ  then it's up to you whether you want to pull thatĀ Ā

play04:26

live stream onto your profile Grid or not insideĀ  the real tab okay so once you've done that that'sĀ Ā

play04:33

the instagramy things done on your phone you doĀ  have something else to do on Instagram from yourĀ Ā

play04:39

desktop so we're going to create the live streamĀ  now so in order to do that we CLI click createĀ Ā

play04:45

and we go to live stream now we need to chooseĀ  where we want to live stream so we already knowĀ Ā

play04:52

we want to go to Instagram we've already done theĀ  changes on our app so we click on the InstagramĀ Ā

play04:59

icon and we give our live stream a title so nowĀ  what I recommend you do is you copy this titleĀ Ā

play05:08

because we have to put this title into InstagramĀ  as well and we also have to go to our InstagramĀ Ā

play05:13

account and get the Instagram stream key soĀ  we're going to open up Instagram in a new tabĀ Ā

play05:20

so once you're in your Instagram you do need toĀ  mute this tab because when we are live streamingĀ Ā

play05:25

from our streamyard we don't want to hear theĀ  audio coming out of our Instagram account andĀ Ā

play05:31

we have to keep this page open whilst we're liveĀ  streaming I know that sounds a bit complicated butĀ Ā

play05:37

it really is easy all you need to do is go to theĀ  tab in question rightclick it and it will give youĀ Ā

play05:44

an option to mute the site just go ahead and doĀ  that and then you won't get any audio from yourĀ Ā

play05:49

Instagram account whilst you're doing the liveĀ  stream now we need to go to the create optionĀ Ā

play05:57

and you can see we have this live video option goĀ  ahead and click that and it's going to ask us ifĀ Ā

play06:03

we want to create the live stream so we copiedĀ  the title earlier and we're going to click onĀ Ā

play06:09

there and just paste the title into that areaĀ  it's then going to ask us for the audience soĀ Ā

play06:16

we're going to go public and we're going to clickĀ  next now what that's done is it's connected ourĀ Ā

play06:24

streamyard to our Instagram by giving us two setsĀ  of codes now we only need to have the stream keyĀ Ā

play06:32

code so we're going to copy that and we're goingĀ  to go back over to our streamyard and we're goingĀ Ā

play06:36

to place that code where it says Instagram streamĀ  key paste it in there and click create live streamĀ Ā

play06:44

now when you click create live stream you areĀ  not going to go live so don't panic yet justĀ Ā

play06:49

click create live stream and what it's going toĀ  do is it's going to take you into the streamyardĀ Ā

play06:55

studio when you're in here you just need to makeĀ  sure that your camera is set up and your audioĀ Ā

play07:01

is set up so to do that go to the settings andĀ  select the camera that you want to use and thenĀ Ā

play07:09

go to audio and select the audio that you want toĀ  use now I've just left it on default I normallyĀ Ā

play07:15

use my road pod mic but I'm using that to recordĀ  this video for you so I'm going to leave it as itĀ Ā

play07:20

is if you want a virtual background you can clickĀ  virtual background as well once you're happy justĀ Ā

play07:27

close it down add your display name that's theĀ  name that's going to show on the video and ifĀ Ā

play07:32

you want to add a headline you can do that as wellĀ  when you enter the studio you're still not goingĀ Ā

play07:38

to be live so don't panic just enter the studioĀ  and this is where it's going to take you intoĀ Ā

play07:44

the studio in order for you to set yourself upĀ  now in streamyard you do have to add yourself toĀ Ā

play07:52

the studio so down the bottom here you can seeĀ  add to Stage go ahead and click that and thatĀ Ā

play07:57

brings you onto the stage okay we're nearly thereĀ  now what we have to do is in order for us to makeĀ Ā

play08:04

sure that that connection has been made betweenĀ  streamyard and Instagram we need to click the goĀ Ā

play08:10

live key in your streamyard studio by clickingĀ  go live and then we're going to go over to ourĀ Ā

play08:17

Instagram account and we're going to wait here toĀ  see the preview so once that connection has beenĀ Ā

play08:24

made between streamyard and Instagram we'llĀ  see a preview here there it is there's the

play08:32

connection so remember I asked you to mute theĀ  tab which your Instagram is going to be on nowĀ Ā

play08:42

that's so that we don't get you speaking toĀ  yourself so it's like a like because you'reĀ Ā

play08:49

live streaming from streamyard into InstagramĀ  and we have to have both these tabs open inĀ Ā

play08:55

order for this to work we need to make sure thatĀ  we mute our Instagram tab it doesn't mean that theĀ Ā

play09:01

people who are on Instagram can't hear us that'sĀ  not going to happen at all now that we know thatĀ Ā

play09:07

our streamyard and our Instagram are connectedĀ  we can go ahead and click go live and then youĀ Ā

play09:14

can just do the live stream how you would normallyĀ  do it so go ahead and click go live and you willĀ Ā

play09:21

be live on your Instagram account okay so onceĀ  you're live on Instagram you can go back to yourĀ Ā

play09:29

streamyard studio and you can talk using yourĀ  streamyard studio if you want and of course youĀ Ā

play09:35

can add on a screen share if you want to you canĀ  add a guest on if they if you've bought a guestĀ Ā

play09:43

into your studio you can do all of those thingsĀ  inside of your streamyard studio and it will showĀ Ā

play09:49

up inside of your live stream so for example ifĀ  I put my banner on and I show that that's goingĀ Ā

play09:56

to show up inside of my my live stream now thereĀ  is a little bit of a delay not long but a littleĀ Ā

play10:03

bit of a delay once you've activated those thingsĀ  but they will show up as you can see there there'sĀ Ā

play10:09

the ticker so whatever you do in your streamyardĀ  studio it will show up inside of your InstagramĀ Ā

play10:17

account now one thing I've noticed at the momentĀ  is that I didn't see any comments coming throughĀ Ā

play10:23

from Instagram as you can see it says can't postĀ  comments on Instagram so the best thing to doĀ Ā

play10:28

is once you've set up your streamyard studio andĀ  you're happy with how things are looking in hereĀ Ā

play10:33

is to keep the Instagram tab open where you'reĀ  live because you can actually comment on hereĀ Ā

play10:40

and it will go through so that's all you needĀ  to do in in Instagram so remember your cockpitĀ Ā

play10:48

is inside of your streamyard studio and youĀ  control what's happening in your live here onĀ Ā

play10:55

the Instagram app okay and then when you clickĀ  click end live video and you'll end your liveĀ Ā

play11:02

stream and that's going to stop the stream and ifĀ  I come up to my streamyard studio it will connectĀ Ā

play11:11

here as well and tell streamyard that I've lostĀ  the connection if it doesn't then all you need toĀ Ā

play11:17

do is come up here and click end stream and youĀ  will end your stream on Instagram so you can doĀ Ā

play11:26

your feedback in streamyard as well by clickingĀ  that end one here now I finished my stream inĀ Ā

play11:33

streamyard so let's just jump back to InstagramĀ  it says here to download your video view this inĀ Ā

play11:40

your archive on your Instagram app now rememberĀ  when I was on Instagram earlier I told you to goĀ Ā

play11:45

into your settings and turn on the live archiveĀ  so if I go here to download your video view thisĀ Ā

play11:53

in your archive on the Instagram app so I'm goingĀ  to close this off by clicking the cross and I'mĀ Ā

play11:58

going to click discard but it says here if youĀ  continue this live video won't be saved unlessĀ Ā

play12:02

you've previously chosen to archive all your liveĀ  videos 30 days so I'm going to go discard and thenĀ Ā

play12:08

I'm going to come over to my mobile phone okayĀ  so what I'm going to do now is I'm going to goĀ Ā

play12:13

to my hamburger menu the top right and you can seeĀ  that we have this archive tab I'm going to clickĀ Ā

play12:18

the archive Tab and there's the video that I'veĀ  just done I've done a couple more but I'm goingĀ Ā

play12:23

to click that one and as you can see I have theĀ  video there so what I do is I can either shareĀ Ā

play12:30

that to my Instagram account or I can download itĀ  so when I'm downloading it that's going to saveĀ Ā

play12:36

directly to my camera roll on my phone and I canĀ  also click the share option now when I share itĀ Ā

play12:44

it's going to show me you've saved live videos areĀ  now reals so we know that so we're going to clickĀ Ā

play12:49

okay so now what's happened is it's saved my liveĀ  video to my Instagram account and I can change myĀ Ā

play12:56

cover if I want to once you're happy with yourĀ  cover you can write in the caption okay thenĀ Ā

play13:05

I'm going to tag streamyard like so and then I'mĀ  going to click done and then I'm going to shareĀ Ā

play13:13

that and that's going to show on my grid whereĀ  my reals would go okay so there you can see thatĀ Ā

play13:21

the live video is now on my profile if I click myĀ  profile you can see that it's in my reals area andĀ Ā

play13:29

it's also on the Square grid now if we go back toĀ  streamyard we can also go to our dashboard returnĀ Ā

play13:37

to dashboard and we can see that our streams andĀ  recordings will be saved in the past area and youĀ Ā

play13:45

can see that I have my Instagram Live recordedĀ  inside of streamyard I've got a couple of otherĀ Ā

play13:51

ones as well where I did a test but you can viewĀ  this and then it's there ready for you to downloadĀ Ā

play13:58

and put on to your computer or you can click theĀ  edit and repurpose option inside of streamyardĀ Ā

play14:04

which we'll cover in another video so I hopeĀ  you found this video useful it's a game CherĀ Ā

play14:10

for those of you who like to live stream from yourĀ  desktop rather than your mobile phone to be ableĀ Ā

play14:16

to live stream from streamyard into Instagram atĀ  the same time as perhaps you're live streaming toĀ Ā

play14:24

your YouTube channel to your LinkedIn accountĀ  and to your Facebook account so why don't youĀ Ā

play14:29

give it a go and let me know in the commentsĀ  below this video how you got on and if you'veĀ Ā

play14:34

had any problems live streaming from streamyardĀ  to your Instagram account then feel free to ask aĀ Ā

play14:40

question below this video as well my name is AnitaĀ  Wong and I'm here to help you gain visibility fromĀ Ā

play14:47

using video on Facebook and Instagram thanks forĀ  watching and I will see you in the next video
