-The purpose of the video is to demonstrate how to change the oil on a 2002 PT Cruiser, providing a basic guideline that can be applied to most PT Cruisers and potentially other cars as well.
Why is it important to use ramps and emergency brake when changing the oil?
-Using ramps and the emergency brake ensures the car is stable and secure during the oil change process, preventing any accidental movement or rollaways.
What tools are necessary for changing the oil as described in the script?
-The necessary tools include an oil catch can, gloves, a funnel, a ratchet, and a half-inch ratchet for the oil filter.
What type of oil and filter are recommended for the 2002 PT Cruiser in the video?
-The video recommends using 5W30 regular engine oil and a new oil filter, which is tightened by hand without the use of tools.
Why is it important to shake the car back and forth after placing it on ramps?
-Shaking the car back and forth after placing it on ramps helps to ensure that the car is secure and not going to move during the oil change.
How does the car's position on the ramps assist with the oil draining?
-The car is tilted on the ramps to help the oil drain more effectively to the back of the oil pan, ensuring a complete oil change.
What is the significance of the oil plug and how is it handled during the oil change?
-The oil plug is significant as it is where the old oil is drained. It is loosened to allow the oil to drain out and then tightened back to the recommended torque after the oil change.
Why is it necessary to apply a small amount of old oil around the new oil filter's O-ring?
-Applying a small amount of old oil around the new oil filter's O-ring helps to create a better seal and prevents oil leaks.
What is the procedure to ensure the oil filter is installed correctly?

How does one check for oil leaks after the oil change?
-After the oil change, the car is started, and it is allowed to run to check for leaks. The oil pressure light should go off, indicating proper oil pressure and no immediate leaks.
Outlines
π§ Preparing for Oil Change on a PT Cruiser
The script begins with a tutorial on how to change the oil on a 2002 PT Cruiser, mentioning that the process is similar for most PT Cruisers and can be adapted for other cars. The presenter emphasizes safety by placing the car on ramps, engaging the emergency brake, and placing wood blocks under the tires. The car should be in park or first gear for manual transmission. The presenter lists the equipment needed, including an oil catch can, gloves, a funnel, and 5W30 regular engine oil. They also explain the location of the oil pan and filter under the car and give a visual demonstration of the process.
π Draining the Old Oil and Preparing the New Filter
The presenter demonstrates how to drain the old oil by unscrewing the oil plug and catching the oil in a catch can. They explain the importance of letting the oil drain completely by tilting the car and waiting for it to finish. After draining the oil, they show how to clean the oil plug and reinstall it with a new gasket. The presenter then moves on to changing the oil filter, showing how to unscrew the old filter and prepare the new one by applying a thin layer of old oil around the O-ring for a better seal. They also discuss the importance of tightening the filter by hand without using tools.
π Completing the Oil Change and Starting the Engine
The final paragraph covers the steps to add new engine oil and start the car. The presenter instructs to fill the engine with five quarts of 5W30 motor oil and to let it sit for a minute to check for leaks. They advise rolling the car down in neutral to avoid starting the engine with new oil and an empty oil filter. Once the car is level, they recommend starting the engine to check for oil pressure and to ensure everything is working correctly. The presenter concludes by reminding viewers to record the mileage and to repeat the oil change every 3 to 5,000 miles.

Transcripts
today we'll be changing the oil on a
2002 PT Cruiser touring this will work
on almost all PT Cruisers I'm sure and
it's a basic guideline you could use
this on this guideline on any car
they'll all be a little bit different
but they're all relatively the same so
we have this car up on
ramps and always put your emergency
brake on and always stick a piece of
wood under each tire and then after you
do
that make sure you shake the
car back and forth that'll let you know
it's not going anywhere and the car
should be in park or if it's manual in a
first gear so here's what we're going to
use today the change the oil we have our
oil catch can hold five hold seven
quarts so it'll hold five quarts easily
gloves cuz I don't like an old oil on my
hand a funnel nice funnel help you out
don't get oil over the engine 5 w30
regular not synthetic engine oil oil
filter oil
filter uh helps screw it on used the
ratchet and uh you could take it on take
it off very easily using this tool and a
half an inch
ratchet so that's what you want to use
that's all we're going to use so there's
all your equipment right there and uh so
I'm going to give you a look at
underneath the car
so here is looking directly under the
car those are the back tires these are
the front tires you got your
transmission right
here you got your engine and oil pan
right here so now I'm going to flip you
guys
over so now we're
looking straight under the car the front
of the car is that direction so here is
your oil plug this is where you're going
to take I got the drain oil here's your
oil filter that's what you're going to
unscrew fortunately CR ler around the PT
Cruiser put it sideways which will make
a big mess I'm sure but whatever we'll
get that done
so first step is going to
be un undo it so that air will easily
let the oil in and out okay and just put
it on top loose
next step is going to be get gloves on
and get the ratchet and the container
unscrew this right here this will let
all the oil out it is a/ an inch righty
tidy Lefty
Loosey make sure you have your catch can
underneath
so now you're going to wait till all the
oil comes out the car is tilted which
helps even more so that the oil drains
all the way to the back of the oil pan
then after this we uh will tighten it
back up so this is gasket l so there's
no gasket on this so we don't need to
replace a gasket so just be sure we
tighten it down to about 8 foot lbs of
torque which is on the smallest
ratchet just as as you could go and on a
medium siiz ratchet it's about half as
tight as you could go just want it
snug going let this drain and then we're
going to do oil filter
next so the oil is almost
done dripping in getting caught by the
catch
can so once this finishes
there we go okay so now we're going to
go and screw this back
in just tighten it as much by hand so
you don't get any oil leaking it'll stop
from
leaking then get a paper towel wipe it
off and then
use the ratchet tighten it all the
way okay paper towel
please thank
you
okay ratchet
you could also use a 13 mm ratchet both
sizes half in and 13 mm
work half inch was
snugger okay so now you can see it's
tight so now I have a medium siiz
ratchet I'm just going to pull it just a
little bit to get it snug nothing
crazy okay now off to the oil
filter was actually able to get this to
work so I just had to push it on a
little bit more since I have a camera in
one hand wasn't able to push it on
enough but now I got it on more now it
comes off real
easy this is the messy
part make sure you turn this
okay there we
go let that
drain and then we'll put the new one on
and then we'll fill
it as that's draining I'm going to show
you what to do get a little bit of the
old oil get it on your finger and then
we're going to go to the old of the
brand new oil filter and just put the
oil around the ring
just to so it seals really
good normally I'd fill this up with
oil but since it's on Sideways you can't
really fill it up without making a mess
so it's okay it's not a big
deal so just get oil right on the O-ring
here this has
stopped so now
I'm going to take
my oil
filter and thread It On by
hand again righty tidy Lefty Loosey I'm
going to tighten it up once it gets on
you can just start spinning and you only
tighten this by hand you don't use any
tools to tighten this this as much as
you can by hand
and that is
all okay see tighten all the
way by
hand there goes my
ratchet tighten that by hand and you're
all done inspect to make sure that is on
properly that is on properly now it's
time to add the oil to the engine so
we're going to use 5W30 motor oil just
put in right in
here and it uses five
quarts take
this just add your engine oil
all five
quarts let it sit for a minute spec for
leaks and we're going to roll the car
down in neutral so that we don't start
the engine cuz I don't like starting the
engine with brand new oil with no oil in
the oil filter at an
angle so now we're all ready to remove
the wood
[Applause]
blocks make sure this is
good okay
[Applause]
let's put it to a run
position put it in
neutral
that and we'll slowly let the car roll
down very
slowly okay now that the car is level
put it in
neutral start her
up that light should go off good
we have oil pressure now we're just
going to let it
run so record the mileage and then 3 to
5,000 Mi
later and that's how you change the oil
in a Chrysler PT Cruiser
