Transcripts

play00:02

Your website should

play00:03

tell a story about your brand, your products, your values,

play00:07

and you have all the tools to be able to tell that story in an eye-catching, effective way.

play00:11

I'm Ali. I specialize in the Wix Editor,

play00:14

and throughout this course, I'm going to show you how to use all of your tools

play00:18

to build a powerful website that does exactly what you need it to do.

play00:21

We'll cover things like structure and design and how to add and customize elements on your pages.

play00:27

And I'll be walking you through every step

play00:29

of the way, from creation to launch.

play00:32

But before we dive into all that, let's start by looking into your toolbox, your Wix Editor.

play00:37

To start, you'll need to pick your site, either

play00:40

by choosing an existing website to edit or by creating a brand new site.

play00:44

You can start from a blank slate, get help from the Wix AI or use one of these as a starting point

play00:51

and I can browse templates by category,

play00:53

but that doesn't mean I have to choose one that exactly fits my intent or industry.

play00:58

Say I want to create a site for my services and a blog

play01:01

and find a template that I love, but it doesn't have those elements built in.

play01:05

I can start with the template that caught my eye and I can always add those elements to my site later on.

play01:10

I've already created a site that I'll be editing throughout this course, so let's jump into my Editor.

play01:16

The first thing you see in your new workplace is your canvas.

play01:19

This serves as both a preview and a space to edit your pages freely.

play01:24

Take a look at your left bar.

play01:26

This is where you'll find all of your tools to customize your site and manage your business.

play01:30

So let's go through it together. First, we have Add Elements.

play01:34

This is also where I can add things like text, image,

play01:37

buttons, strip, even decorative elements.

play01:40

I can also add things like galleries, interactive elements or links to my social media.

play01:44

We'll dive into adding some of those elements later in this course.

play01:47

But all of these elements will live within something called sections on your page.

play01:53

You can see how my site is split up into sections

play01:57

and I can move entire sections up and down just by clicking here.

play02:03

All of these design elements within the section move along with it.

play02:07

Now I can add a new section to my page by just clicking over here.

play02:12

Whenever you add a section in, they'll come already formatted to fit your site's theme.

play02:18

Another important element is my pages menu.

play02:21

This includes exactly what you'd expect:

play02:22

The individual pages that make up my site.

play02:26

Here I can add, remove,

play02:28

rearrange pages on my site or sort them into folders to keep my site organized.

play02:33

Now let's check out your site design.

play02:36

Site themes are helpful tools that ensure your entire site

play02:39

get stays on brand by keeping all your fonts and colors consistent.

play02:44

You can choose from pre-made color and text themes, all designed to comply with accessibility standards.

play02:49

And I can try out these featured themes.

play02:53

See, when I click on any of these themes,

play02:56

the rest of my site changes in one click,

play03:00

and if I want to change something specific about this theme,

play03:03

I can click colors or text and customize it to fit what I need.

play03:07

We'll take a look at this more in the later lesson.

play03:10

But for now,

play03:12

one of my favorite things about the Editor

play03:14

is that I can seamlessly integrate apps into my site without even opening a new window.

play03:19

I can search for any tool that I need or extension I want to offer my site

play03:22

visitors, like a chat bot or a translator app.

play03:28

And as my business grows, I can always come back and explore

play03:31

the App Store for new tools to enhance and even monetize my site.

play03:36

And speaking of applications,

play03:38

you can manage all of your business applications right here in the My Business tab.

play03:43

So you saw that you can add images and videos to your site in the Add Elements menu,

play03:47

but your Media menu is where you can manage all of your content for on and off your site.

play03:52

This is my Media Center.

play03:54

From here I can upload images or videos to my site,

play03:57

see the files I've already uploaded, and edit those images and videos right here.

play04:02

If I want to add any new images, I can upload my own

play04:05

or pick free ones from Wix Photo Studio.

play04:09

You also have the Content Manager

play04:11

and Ascend Business Tools, which are both accessible right from this Editor.

play04:15

For more about either of these, we have our Content Manager course

play04:18

and a course on promoting your business where we talk about the Ascend tools.

play04:22

Down here all the way at the bottom,

play04:24

you have layers. Layers help you get a comprehensive look at

play04:28

everything on your page, from the largest images down to the tiniest design elements.

play04:33

This is a great tool to use when you want to hone

play04:35

in on the specific element within a page, a section or strip.

play04:39

Now let's move on.

play04:41

The last stop on our tour of your workspace is your top bar.

play04:44

This is where you can manage your settings and your view of your workspace.

play04:47

Let's start all the way at the top. Here

play04:50

under site, you can save, preview, publish, view

play04:54

your live site and even get a QR code to view your mobile site.

play04:57

In settings, you can work on your SEO and even update your business information.

play05:02

In Dev Mode, you can add code and under help,

play05:05

you can search the Editor and also search the Editor Help Center.

play05:09

Over here we have save, preview and publish.

play05:12

Moving down to the next row, we have another pages area.

play05:15

Unlike the pages menu on your left bar,

play05:18

this menu is just designed to help you navigate between your existing pages while you're editing your site.

play05:23

You can click manage pages here to quickly jump back to the pages menu

play05:26

and make any changes that you want.

play05:30

When you switch to the mobile Editor, your site's design

play05:33

and content will automatically adapt to a smaller screen.

play05:36

You'll be able to make changes just to your mobile site,

play05:39

so you can tailor your visitors' experience for mobile browsing.

play05:43

Here in the center, you can manage your site's address or domain,

play05:46

sticking with a free Wix URL or connecting a branded domain name.

play05:50

Next, we have undo and redo.

play05:52

This zoomed out view is great for seeing your entire page all at once broken out into sections.

play05:58

This is the best way to reorganize your page without wondering if things are landing in the right place.

play06:03

Once you get more comfortable with your site,

play06:05

this toolbar offers even more tools to get your layout just right.

play06:09

We'll take a look at some of these tools in a later lesson.

play06:12

And last but not least, your workspace has a search bar.

play06:15

It'll help you find any of the tools we just mentioned in a pinch

play06:19

or find a help article to answer any questions that come up as you build your site.

play06:23

And if you decide you want to edit freely on your canvas,

play06:27

you can always click this arrow at the top of your screen to hide all of your controls temporarily.

play06:32

Now that you have a

play06:33

feel for the workspace, it's time to get creative. In our next few lessons,

play06:37

we'll go over how to use all of these elements and tools to create your dream website,

play06:41

starting with the structure of your pages.

play06:43

That's where we'll pick up, and I'll see you there.
