you very much thanks for having me thank
you for joining me so a lot of young
people people want to know they keep
asking this question and they keep
asking why is it that we don't have
access to funds we need money you know
about movie anything concerning media I
mean money is involved they want to get
paid they look a lot of people and they
people keep complaining we don't have
money we don't get paid so how do we
create a more enabling environment for
these young people to have access to
funds to be able to tell their stories
and bring their Vision to life yeah I
mean I mean the money problem is almost
like an internal problem right it's it's
and what I would say is it's really not
going to excite anybody I'm going to say
it the truth about it is that when it
comes to creative projects or you know
trying to create something you're
looking for a means to finance that
project or to bring it to life the truth
about it is that nobody's going to do it
for you you got to do it by yourself and
what do I mean by that you know if you
are saying if you're saying this is my
dream and I believe in it you know like
whether it's a podcast or whether it's a
film a short film whatever it is a play
whatever it is the first investor in
that product or project is you and the
truth about it is that nobody is going
to give that same level of attention if
you do not give it so what I would say
is to creators you know and stuff and
and people who are involved in content
creation is you are the first person who
invest in your product in your in your
project because when you go to an
investor and you're looking for money
the first thing they're going to ask you
is so where have you got money from you
coming to them from money they're going
to tell you but that's what it is so I
mean it's just kind of like startups you
know people Source funding from friends
and family exactly so so so the measure
of your investment in your own product
tells the other person or tells the
company this is worth investing exactly
because if you come to me and say okay
oh please I need 100 million do X how
much have you put in it if you say no
why should I fund something you're not
interested in so so the other question
around the ecosystem and you know stuff
like that is I think that things are
changing there's a time when only the
bank of Industry were was a place where
only filmmakers looked up to and
obviously obviously people you know cap
in hand sponsorships they go to
multinational companies corporate
companies I mean I worked in corporate
so I know how many times I do
sponsorships please please you know that
kind of thing I think people are I think
the viability of the creative product is
something that's coming across right now
I think we're in a place where people
are beginning to see because it was a
question of is for investors you know
I'm find business people what are my
what is the level of my return on
investment if I invest in X like for
instance you that's why you only see
investment in viable sectors like the
oil and gas industry you know then at
some point it was ICT then it was
technology because people want to see
places where they would because at the
end of day it's a business I put in X
and I want to get y out whatever happens
in the middle is really not my business
at the end of the day it's about
business so and that's why I tell
filmmakers especially because that's my
that's my you know filmmakers people who
are doing me making music and stuff like
that content creation you need to view
your output as a product just the
product work I give you an example if
you got something from if you ordered
something from say J Ora and it came to
you and had a defect you would return it
right exactly you're not going to you
know if something order that shoes it
was not your size or something happened
maybe there was a te or something to
manage exactly and the same thing with
with a with a film with with a film with
whatever it is they trying to create
once it's not a viable product once it's
not something that can provide return
investment nobody's interested so you
have to it all STS in making sure that
you have something that's viable you
know um welld developed because what
happens is that a lot of people have
things that are not welldeveloped in
terms of whatever it is and this is any

developed what do you mean so what I
mean well developed some people just
copy other people oh everybody's doing a
podcast let do a podcast everybody's
doing a short film let do a short film
my point is what messaging are you
putting together why should anybody
listen to you and not the other person
and I tell people this is where
Innovation and thinking outside of the
box comes in you need to think of
something and the truth about it is that
for all in Creative Endeavor it's really
difficult to find something like I
saying that's nothing you song but the
truth about is that people are looking
for new people are looking for novel
people are looking for things that are
they haven't quite seen before so the
owners on you is number one create
something that people want to see people
especially and if your goal is you know
is commercial then you have to think
about something that people want to see
a product that can be consumed then
invest in your own product develop
proper develop it properly and then go
out there and and and and and things
will happen yeah that's that's the way I
see it I think that's good advice to be
honest because a lot of people you know
talk about funding funding all the time
and then when you ask them oh yeah bring
your product or bring whatever it is
that you want to show us and then you're
looking and like is this it is
this and but the truth about it is that
in as much as you know we have we have a
lot of inflation now you know and a lot
of lot of Economic headwinds and stuff
like that there are two people who have
who are still available to fund your
project like I mean we all talk I mean
my friends film EDT F Young's the black
book I mean he got very creative around
how he funded the project you know he
went to Tech you know spoke to them and
said okay I can do this this is a film I
want to do this film will deliver and
stuff like that if you didn't have a
viable product at the time on paper and
of course with a track record to show he
wouldn't have gotten that sort of
funding and back so that's my point you
know use that as an example of how it is
possible for you to get funding for
something that is viable yeah correct

a lot of young people must have learned
from that now with the Advent of social
media I mean there's Tik Tok now there's
Instagram there's
YouTube can go on there's a lot of them
out there now a lot of Gatekeepers have
been eliminated right so how do we
ensure that storytelling and content
creation is more purposeful yeah thanks
for that question um so finding purpose
in creating content essentially and
keeping keeping it that way so the thing
is so how would answer that question is
this um what makes the content content
creator who makes the content the
content creator now that being said what
what is the
objective for the content creator okay
now I completely understand because you
see it's a very complex situation where
PE and I and I put it in diverse
categories because people some people
just want to eat they need to make it
leaving so for them it's a means to an
end it's a means to an economic end and
at that point it's really around I will
do whatever it takes I will jump on any
Trend to make my content ban because hey
make it go exactly so I need to grow my
engagement I need to grow my numbers I
need to get critical engagement and I
also need to money you know I need to
get my cont my my platform monetized so
that I can earn money you know so if
you're YouTube want to grow to 5,000
subscribers you want to do 5,000 hours
of watch time so you can get some
dollars right if you're on Tik Tok you
want to get paid so I understand it then
there the other people who have a
message like for instance you know
aspire to ppir to Maguire those folks
who put out stuff you know because they
actually want to make an impact in
people's lives you know so at the end of
the day you think so yeah that's why
some talk about it and it all depends
but at the end of the day you know some
people I think be behind all the no
noise I think there are people who
actually want to make an impact people's
lives even at the end of the day they
rack up numbers as well so so what but
my point is at the end of the day it's
what is your objective in making content
you know at the end of the day that
determines what necessar happens in that
ecosystem and the truth is how can we
actually you know what was that part of
the question again you asked how can we
make um how can we make content creation
more purposeful yeah purposeful so like
I said it all depends on you the content
creator so what is your objective what
are you looking at you know so like I
said for some people it's economic for
some people they want to make a
difference for some people they want to
you know like you you watch this thing
called five minutes craft everybody no
no no for five minutes craft you would
know it so they would teach you the
teach like for they can teach you that
you can you can clean your your bathtub
or your toilet with Coca-Cola all the
see them I see
exact exactly my point is you have
people like that people who are
adventurers they they make content and
they do some extreme stuff you know end
of I think the owners lies on the
content creator what is important to you
what message I trying to get out to the
world you know that kind of thing what
is your messaging and I believe that you
know what happens is that poos TS with
the content creator at the end of the
day it's a question of what do you want
to create now what seems to happen is
that we see certain types of videos and
certain types of content there's a
reason why because that is what people
feel move the needle you you know yeah I
know starts with t and with W that you
know pretty much everybody's doing that
you know there's a reason why because
people like to jump on thre so I think
what I would say is at the end of the
day the kind of content you put out all
depends on what your objective is why
you on that platform what are you trying
to achieve what your objective is I
wouldn't say because social media means
a lot of things to different people for
is a place for escape for some people
it's a place you know this is a place
where I make money for some people it's
a place where okay this is where I want
to sell you know it's an extension for
my business some people's entire
business is on social media so at the
end of the day people make content for
different reasons but what I would say
is as long as you're genuine as long as
at the end of the day you you know you
are quite intentional about what you do
then it's it's great because at the end
of the day it's really up to you you
know that kind of thing now talking
about social media how do you see
influencing the evolution of
Storytelling and what are the advantages
or opportunities and disadvantages that
it presents young individuals fantastic
great question so I think that um you
know with the evolution of social media
especially around what you exposed to
seeing I I for me I why one of the
reasons why I love Instagram in
particular is because I see to I see it
as a window to the world what do I mean
is that you are able to see and
experience cultures that you probably
haven't experienced or seen before you
see life through people's perspective
you see things people through people's
POV that you probably wouldn't have seen
before and this is anybody not just
about celebrities and stuff but really
anybody you know next guy on the street
next bab on the street and stuff like
that and what happens tends to happen is
that as a creative you it expands your
mind as to what's possible you know
maybe like you wake up in the morning
and you know you're going through your
timeline and you see the short of a
mountain somewhere in Fiji or you know
somewhere and you know that kind of
thing then it inspires you to do
something or to write something or to so
I feel that there are more Horizons for
expression there are more Horizons there
are more opportunities for people to
actually conceive things you know and
again you also inspired by people's work
because what tends to happen like what I
do a lot is you know I follow so many
people on Instagram and a lot of
creatives because I get to see how they
think because I think that without
meeting an artist or a creative or
whatever through their work you get to
meet them you know that kind of whether
it's through a painting through a
podcast through an an you know audio
composition through po music performance
you know there's something that about it
that inspires you and brings a lot of
energy for your own creation so yes I
think that there are so many Latin
opportunities that creatives can
actually you know get on social media
now in terms of let's not also forget
it's it's a medium that brast a lot of
things so negative and the positive so
they consume both exactly so you have to
have an intern filter you know at the
end day but again it all Bs down to that
thing I keep saying what is the
objective why are you on that platform
what do you tend to gain exact young
people are highly impressionable you
know that kind of thing they want to be
on every Trend you know they want to be
you know um they want to be on every
especially our young folks genz they
want to be in front of every Trend they
want to make sure that they are part of
every conversation and with that comes
with his own VI so at the end of the day
you know I think it's all about you know
so the objective why you're there and
essentially what are you trying to
create what exactly is your focus I
think that you know you alone know what
your vices are what your a is that is
what your weak point is you know that's
up to you to figure out but the
important thing is that there's so much
opportunities as well as the advices at
the end of the day it's so what you're
going to do with it you know true Africa
has a huge market for Content creation
and storytelling now what would be your
advice to young people on how to tap
into that market yeah so like you know
Africa is Africa is huge africas I don't
think we've we've even explored up to I
don't know 1/8 of what this continent
has to offer us you know in terms of the
richness of our fashion of our music of
our film of you know just even exploring
the Landscapes of Africa alone you know
is so much so so I think that what I
would say is um as somebody who's been
to at least 7 to eight African countries
I think young people should I know well
it might cost some money but hey man if
you've got to win the loty You' got to
buy the ticket I think that young people
should travel I think you should it
opens up your mind how how do you get
funds to travel I know flight tickets
are so so you can start yeah so I mean
you don't I mean I'm not say jump to
Cairo jump jump to Johannesburg there's
there's
konu yeah you can start there Togo it's
not so far there's a so my point is go
to places because there's something
called Wonder lost you know you go to a
place and it completely changes your
perception about life changes your
perception about Africa I think that if
we start to explore our continent more
it opens up our minds opens up about
what we can because at the end of the
day the Creator is only inspired by
essentially so basically what it is that
you want to create that's what you're
going to get inspiration for so you know
I think that people should go go around
Africa you know visit the pl you know
different places that way you get a
sense of maybe this is what I should be
focusing on next because I really cannot
tell you what you're going to create but
my Point here is put yourself in a
position where you get inspired by what
you're not used to seeing what you're
not used to experiencing so try some
other food wear some other clothes make
some other friends that are not that are
not necessarily from where you are and
that way it inspires something new you
know that kind of thing so you can
imagine your writer goes to somewhere in
Togo and sleeps for a weekend and he
goes to you know somewhere you know he
gets inspired to write something there
something to create exactly so what what
I would say it all starts from leaving
where you are going out of where you are
to a completely different Zone to you
know find something else that you've
never seen before then also you know go
out of your way to of your comfort zone
what do I mean so if you've always
listened to a certain type of music why
don't you try something else if you've
always watched a certain some certain
types of movies right something else I
just feel that stepping out of where you
are will completely change your
perspective on life I think that's how
you create stuff that you've never done
