we are back welcome to this video you
guys my name's david and if you're new
here on mind body prime we talk about
building habits and routines for a
better mind and body and if this is not
your first time here welcome back i'm so
excited to be on this one because it's
been a long time since i posted my last
video if you look at my previous videos
it's a lot of nutrition bodybuilding and
workouts things of that nature all the
typical fitness stuff but i wanted to
make this video in particular to pivot
and move towards the direction of my
future content and that is holistic
fitness what is holistic fitness now
this is not a new term it's not
really a common term something that you
hear all the time but holistic fitness
is just a play on the term holistic
health for those of you who know what
holistic health is it's looking at the
person as a whole
and evaluating health on more than one
dimension than just physical health for
instance a lot of times when we think
about what fitness is it's just focused
on reaching a body composition goal like
losing 20 pounds or getting a six-pack
building more muscle
looking better this is all
about the body and the physical but
there's so much more to health and
wellness
that
i feel like we can't ignore this anymore
right there are a lot of things that we
can do for the sake of building a better
body in a better physical state being
more healthy
that don't necessarily make us
holistically better
right because i for many years
i was super into bodybuilding and so i
treated my body right in the sense of i
rarely ever missed a workout i uh ate
very healthy i got my sleep on a regular
schedule but this was all for the sake
of bodybuilding this was all just to
achieve a certain look
and
what i realized was that during this
time i didn't notice it back then but
looking back on it
i wasn't doing too hot in other areas of
my life like i wasn't doing good i
wasn't happy with how things were going
i wasn't content
mentally i was not in a good place
um
what else i didn't focus on my career my
social relationships were pretty much
non-existent because i never socialized
with anybody outside of the gym and even
when i was in the gym it would just be
like a simple hi-bye what's up like
small talk but i wouldn't have a deep
connection with anybody in my life and
this whole time people thought i had it
all together because on the outside
everything looks so good right and
that's what fitness nowadays i feel like
is so wrapped up in just how do we build
this appearance how do we keep up
appearances to look a certain way and we
automatically think that's the fitness
lifestyle oh that guy's super into
fitness because he looks like he's into
fitness
but when we look at it through the lens
of being healthy
being content with life having a
connection that's outside of ourselves
is it really about fitness at that point
i mean is fitness just about the way you
look at that point when i think about it
now i think part of it has to do with
getting a little bit older perhaps but
i've become more focused on holistic
health and living a better overall life
in all areas as opposed to just one area
and i want to move away from this
one-dimensional view of fitness so i
wanted to make this video on what
holistic fitness is it's pretty much
just putting holistic health
above everything else
because
physical
wellness is just one dimension of
wellness
and that's the one that i feel like
fitness is super leaning heavy on and
can ignore the rest
because you can put all your energy and
effort into building a physique but if
all the other areas of your life are
being neglected
then
what good does that do really at the end
of the day i mean you could look a
certain way you could have an awesome
physique
but if you're not happy
and you don't have good mental health or
you don't have good relationships
a good spiritual connection these are
all things that make you a well-rounded
person and i find that on social media
nowadays it's very easy to get wrapped
up in just the physical dimension
and that's why
uh i want my content to not just be
about nutrition to get a six pack or
tracking macros um what workouts are
going to build you the most muscle like
that stuff's all well and good and
i want to be careful to not down talk
any of that stuff because i think
enjoying the process of building your
body and liking the way you look is
important because if you like the way
you look
then that has a big impact on your
self-esteem your self-confidence which
has an effect on your social wellness if
you like the way you look that has a
positive effect on your mental wellness
but what i found was that when i was
leaning heavily on just the physical
aspect of bodybuilding i was ignoring
everything else
because i'm a very all or nothing type
guy
so i have to constantly remind myself
to find balance i know that some people
don't like that word when people talk
about finding balance in life but it's
very important up to a certain point
it's almost like when my body's healthy
enough i then can go out and enjoy
other things in my life and improve on
work on developing the other things in
my life that need my attention
rather than just thinking that fitness
is like the end-all be-all the final
destination when it's really not
like i completely understand if you're
in your early or mid-20s and you're in
that phase where you just want to like
impress people impress girls
and
um
you know i totally get it right because
i was there myself that's the only
reason i wanted to work out in the
beginning was to impress girls
but as i
did it for longer and as i went through
more life experiences i learned that
fitness was just a tool that i used to
improve my life in other ways if that
makes sense fitness was like the vehicle
that got me to the to where i am today
when initially i thought that that was
all i wanted like that was the final
goal
it's a different way to look at fitness
and that's why holistic fitness i think
is going to be
more of a popular term in the future
but right now not so much like people
don't know i mean based off of the words
holistic fitness you could probably
guess what it is
it's just holistic health and fitness
but i feel like a lot of the social
media content nowadays um a lot of
people's perception on what fitness is
is
so one-dimensional it's like
um
like building muscle showing off on
instagram like photoshopping pictures
restricting your calories just to get a
six-pack or
like it's doing all these things taking
steroids to build more muscle
all these things that can be detrimental
to your holistic health are done for the
sake of
physical health or physical fitness when
in reality
yeah you might have an awesome physique
you might show the world that um you are
like a fitness guy or a fitness girl
but at the end of the day
is it really improving the quality of
your life like
developing as a person
is so much more than that right it's
about those daily habits the daily
routines that impact other areas of your
life
right and i'm not saying that building a
good physique or losing weight if you're
overweight i'm not saying that these
things are bad for your holistic health
because they're obviously not right
if you're overweight and you lose weight
then that's going to be good for your
holistic health
but
one thing that i want to
get away from is this idea that
physical health and the way you look on
the outside is the full story because
it really is not
there are so many more dimensions to
developing as a person
than um building your physique
it really is and
i didn't used to think that way i think
part of the reason i feel that way is
because i've gotten a little bit older
maybe a bit wiser i've gone through more
in life to know that um
the gym
meal prepping
that lifestyle is not the end-all be-all
and it should not be so i kind of want
to change the narrative on what fitness
is and what it looks like to people
and that's my objective for this channel
moving forward and that's pretty much it
for this video i'm gonna post some more
in the near future i'm not gonna be
editing my videos a whole lot i'm gonna
be doing more freestyle off the top type
of stuff so it's gonna require a whole
lot less editing but
it's gonna bring out more of my natural
speaking voice than the highly edited
stuff that i was putting out last year
so hope you guys like it if you did let
me know what you think in the comments
below if you liked this video give this
video a thumbs up it really does help my
um video get out there which
let's try to help some people out there
so thanks for being here until next time
peace
