Transcripts
today we're going to be talking about
how you can be the best wide receiver on
your team now tip number one you guys is
understanding multiple wide receiver
positions so a lot of guys what they'll
do is they'll just strictly stick to one
side of the ball so let's say you're an
outside wide receiver you're the X
receiver which is the outside receiver
on the left you only know the X position
you are limiting yourself if you have to
compete for time with another wide
receiver or maybe you're a backup and a
wide receiver spot opens and you can get
on the field you need to know every
single wide receiver spot on the field
I'm talking about the X I'm talking
about the the r which is the slot on the
left slot on the right and the Z know
every single spot now that's obviously
going to come with some studying that
you have to do you have to study your
playbook and you have to know your
playbook extremely well you should
almost be like a quarterback in that
sense so some things that you could do
to memorize a Playbook study A playbook
cuz I know a lot of you guys ask
questions about that you see them I see
them all the time in the comment section
something you should do is get a set of
note cards and on one side of the note
card draw out the name of the play other
side of the note card write out the full
play every single route involved with
the player different route cont
combinations and then what I would do is
I would get a notebook or a whiteboard
name of the play try to write it out by
memory and then study and refer back and
forth what you got wrong what you got
right Etc I'm a firm believer in
actually writing it out will help you
better better memorize your playbook and
guys if you know multiple spots on the
field it's hard to replace you and
that's how you could easily lead to that
best wide receiver on the team now also
fellas if you are a receiver and you
guys would like to train with us this
off season starting in December all the
way through July we are going to be
coming out to 15 different cities across
the country for 2-day long QB and wide
receiver training camps this is our
third QB and wide receiver Camp tour
where we're traveling across the country
all of our camps this pasture sold out
within the first 2 to 3 months of us
announcing the date so guys if you want
some more information on that and want
to see the different states that we are
traveling out to check out that very
first link in the description below
again very first link below all of our
dates are listed you could sign up there
and make sure you grab your spot cuz all
of our spots will fill up very fast now
to be the best wide receiver on your
team you have to have multiple ways to
run a specific specific route so let's
use a corner route for example so let's
say I'm running a corner route let's say
it's like a 10 yard break I'm coming out
of the slot wide receiver position let's
say the break is off of your third
inside step right so your third your
whenever wide receivers run routes
versus Zone coverage at a higher level
I'm talking like Collegiate level
professional level they're not running
routes off a yardage they're not looking
down okay I'm at 10 let me cut and a lot
of you young wide receivers do that what
wide receivers do at that higher level
is they run routes off of steps so this
is my inside foot they only count inside
steps as we are moving so go we come off
that's my first inside second inside
third inside and I cut off of the third
inside to the corner now that's one way
to run the corner route but to be the
best wide receiver on your team you have
to have some creativity to what you're
doing so instead of breaking off of your
third inside maybe we start the break on
my third outside and work a move at the
top called a rocker step so I come up
set go that's my first second third and
I fake back to the inside I'm still
breaking off the exact same step but if
I have a safety over the top maybe that
gets in a bite to the inside I have a
little bit more separation and when I
catch the ball I could actually go do
some damage so guys you need multiple
ways to run your routes as a receiver
now tip number three to be the best wide
receiver on your team is to learn how to
run your routes or to play fast now I
know that seems like kind of like common
sense like yeah no you want to be
able to play fast you obviously want to
run your routes fast but with a lot a
mistake a lot of receivers make and we
briefly mentioned it in the last clip is
running routes off of steps now the
reason why you run routes off of steps
is for timing for your quarterback but
you will play faster and your routes
will be faster over time if you can get
used to keeping your eyes up and just
running so let's say in your playbook
you guys have a 12 back to 10 yard curl
in your playbook right so what you want
to do for each one of those routes that
you have on your route tree you should
maybe have like maybe 9 to 10 routes
that you run you should walk through it
based off of steps so how many steps
does it take me to get to 12 yards so
you could run your routes faster and
play with your eyes up AKA playing
faster so if I had to run a 12 back to
10 yard curl generally this is going to
be a break off of your fourth outside
step so set go we come off that's my
first outside second outside third
outside fourth outside so I don't got to
look down to see oh am I at 12 yards I
could play with my eyes up I could run
hard I could sew vertical to get that DB
to backpedal and then I could just put
the brakes on and that's what all great
wide receivers are able to do they're
able to change direction suddenly with
no indicators and they're able to play
fast so make sure you practice running
your routes off of steps now the next
thing that wide receivers have to do to
be the best on their team is build
releases off of each other so we're
going to give you a great examp example
of doing that so what do I mean by
building releases off of each other I
mean like making things look the same at
a certain point so let's start with the
split release and then we're going to
get into something called a split
Diamond release so let's say two of the
most popular routes that you'll have to
run as a receiver I'm assuming in high
school is going to be a fade route and
then a slant route so if you have
pressed coverage you want to make those
two routes versus press coverage look
for the most part similar so let's say
you have inside shade press right and
you have to run a fade something you can
do is a split release that's where you
take your front foot and you move it out
and you take your back foot and you move
it straight up so both feet make contact
with the grass at the exact same time
maybe give a little move a little hip
sway inside you could do either or but
you hold that DB and then we take off to
the outside you try to freeze them then
leave them so now if I have to run a
slant and I have inside shade press I'm
not going to be able to just run to the
inside cuz his goal being inside shade
press is to prevent the inside route so
he can reroute me inside force me to
other receivers so what I want to do is
I want to attack his outside shoulder
and outside hip they call that a diamond
release that's where you take three
steps one 2
three put the brakes on Swap by and slip
under but instead of just doing a
diamond release only when you have to
run a slant you should do a split
Diamond release to make it look more
like your fade it's not just about
selling Fade with your speed long
strides and Body Language it's also
about selling Fade with the releases
that you do so maybe I come off here
DB's inside shade split then one two
three put the brakes on and slip under
so maybe he's more likely to think it's
a fade maybe he's seen that on film or
maybe he's seen you run that fade in
that game with that split release now if
you're a wide receiver and you guys
would like a two-month long daily
training schedule to work on a lot of
the things that we have discussed in
this video check out that second link in
the description below for our ultimate
wide receiver training package again
guys it's two months of wide receiver
onfield drills all mapped out in a
schedule for you like Monday this
Tuesday that give you the exact sets and
Reps and we give you a video example of
each drill that you can do plus we
include an 8-week gym workout schedule
the same exact format and then we also
include a 4-we speed development program
cuz speed is obviously important to be
the best wide receiver on your team so
guys want some more information on that
check out that second link in the
description below let's get back to this
video now to be a great wide receiver
you guys you got to have good hands and
hands is just one of those things that
takes repetition so obviously like if
you're at practice you have your
quarterback maybe the backup quarter
even hell any even the third string
quarterback or another receiver on your
team who's got a decent arm before every
single practice or field workout you
need to get in 50 perfect catches so
this is a routine that I recommend every
wide receiver does so you're standing
here all you would do 50 in front or not
excuse me 10 in front then you would go
10 to the side 10 to the side that's 30
and then you would go 10 low passes
where it's below your waist and you have
to flip your hands and then you would go
five over your left shoulder and then
five over your right shoulder so that's
50 catches easy money that you could do
to make sure that your hands are
consistent to be the best wide receiver
on your team
