Q & A

Transcripts
hi everyone it's Rax on my stream I've
been Theory crafting some leveling and
full end game builds I'm going to do it
for all classes and I'm going to be
posting those guides very soon I thought
before I would release all of those
different build guides that I would
first release a video that's talking
about how exactly do I go about making a
leveling and an end game guide what are
the things that I'm thinking about and
how do I arrive at the presented build
that I'm giving you so I thought I'd
just start with my trusty old Barb
um the Barb is the class that I'm
writing for on Maxwell so it's a class I
definitely spent the most time on but
I've certainly I'm going to look at
every single class and have guides for
you on everything
okay so how do we make a Diablo 4 build
guide the first thing is there's a huge
difference between leveling an end game
when you're leveling you got no
legendary Powers I'm assuming you get
absolutely nothing except for the powers
that you get out of the Codex of power
if you don't know what the Codex of
power is you go clear certain Dungeons
and you unlock the minimum value of
certain aspects if there's a critical
power for your build that you can get
for free while you're leveling you'll go
get that otherwise with the drop rates
that we just saw on the server slam
we're not going to consider anything
in while you're leveling there's far
less synergies in your build you don't
have the glyphs you don't have the
Paragon board you don't have most of the
legendaries and you don't even have all
your skills so you have to consider what
is it like to not have very much and as
you guys experienced in the beta and in
the service land when you don't have
that many skill points and don't have
anything going for you things can be
really rough I would say there's far
more variables to consider while
leveling than in the end game in the end
game you can Target Farm whatever you
need you will have all your skill points
you'll have a lot more Renown Etc
leveling you're kind of at the mercy of
what drops and you're not really sure
what's going to happen so you have to
build something that's more robust that
can handle any single situation and one
thing that I see a mistake on in
leveling is people always consider like
they take like these full damage builds
and they always make choices that are
designed to kill like a whole room of
trash that is absolutely not the play
and that is not what you should be
focused on while leveling you should be
focusing on resource generation and
mobility and killing bosses bosses are
the thing that are going to slow you
down and you might get to some bosses
that you can't even kill so I can't tell
you how many planners I've been linked
which is this like full AOE damage while
leveling I'm like well first of all you
didn't take a movement skill you didn't
take as much resource generation as you
could and every skill point that you
chose is designed to just mow down a big
dungeon You're not doing dungeons you're
running through the campaign efficiently
to get your Mount and to unlock the
Capstone dungeons you can unlock the
higher difficulties so you can get
uniques and sacred items
um so that's another thing another thing
kind of along the same lines is I see a
lot of builds that are very greedy oh I
could get 10 damage reduction or I could
get two percent damage they take the two
percent damage ten percent damage
reduction is a lot and in general a lot
of people both in leveling and the end
game don't consider
um damage reduction very seriously and I
think that's going to be the problem
then how do we move that into an end
game well we need to consider how we
transition and when a good example for
barbarian is in their final passive here
um a lot of builds will take unbridled
rage your core skills do 130 35 more
damage but they cost a hundred percent
more Fury usually in the end game this
is what you're going for but before you
take that passive you need to have your
Fury problems solved
and how are you going to do that are you
going to do that just with 50 skill
points probably not and so a lot of
people underestimate starting with a
passive like unconstrained it just makes
your berserk last way longer and it just
gives you 25 percent more damage it will
feel better playing with this passive if
you don't have the right tools to keep
your resources going
carefully considering what items in
place and Powers you need before you
would make a switch like this is
extremely important another example if
you're going to take an ultimate when
you've got no power call of the Ancients
is very good call of the Ancients can
save you in a boss fight where you
really have no options and no way of
winning
um Wrath of the Berserker is probably
you want in the end game Wrath of the
Berserker makes you stronger and call of
the Ancients gives you like a helper
that's very strong so when you're weak
maybe the helper is better that's what
it felt like when I played when do you
change when do you know when to switch
from Call of the Ancients to the Wrath
of the Berserker where you're just so
strong that you make this transition
it's something extremely important
another thing about Diablo 4 which a lot
of people are underestimating and maybe
not used to is everything is based on
conditions
if you are healthy if the monster is
close or far if they're stunned if
they're crowd controlled at all
etc etc etc building a you must
understand in the end game exactly what
is your build going to do I'll tell you
what your build is not going to do it's
not going to do everything it's not
going to stun freeze chill slow uh
injured healthy close far you're not
going to have a barrier and fortify and
everything and berserking all the time
it's just not going to happen your build
will specialize in a few things if you
specialize in a few things and then take
every legendary power and every glyph
and every paragon
Point around that and specialize in it
you will make a far better build than if
you don't do that
another million dollar question that
every single class has to answer
is can I drop my generator
and you should try to do that I see a
lot of end game builds that have a
generator on their bars especially when
there's legendary powers that say if you
use your generator it makes you more
powerful but in general these generators
suck so if you can make your build
powerful enough to be autonomous and it
works and it works with the ultimates
and it works with the Capstone passive
and you can drop this generator usually
that's a far better option it's
something you should try to solve for if
you can and then of course there's what
are the critical legendary Powers
um that you take and how does it all fit
in that also feeds into how you
transition
then there's a very interesting thing
now this is going to be very very nerdy
you guys are going to see like the
extent the extent that we'll go to to
try to solve something but let's talk
about the Paragon boards for a second
so
how do we
how do we solve the Paragon boards and
the answer is we turn them into a math
equation
I was going to build exactly the sheet
and then another good friend of mine
Godly player Maxwell member macro
already made it for necromancers
and I was like hey uh how about you give
me that and I'm just going to copy the
format and make it for barbs you might
think this is just a bunch of nonsense
but it really isn't we are turning the
Paragon boards into a math equation
racks that takes all the fun out of it
you suck I hate you and Maxwell I just
want to make a paragon board and walk
through and figure it out on my own if
that's what you want to do pause the
video close it dislike make fun of me in
the comments that's fine but a lot of
people want to Theory craft and the way
to get much closer to the optimal right
answer is to turn it into a math
equation so that's what I'm going to do
I'm sorry
so
you take every board
and you put the minimum travel to walk
out get the glyph and and then get to
the edge of a board then you have the
three radius bonuses that you could get
for all the stats and then the four
radius bonuses for all the stats then
you have every Power that you could get
within three radius between Magic and
rare and four radius between Magic and
rare and then you punch it into every
single board so you just have turned the
Paragon boards into a math equation okay
that's the first step then you do this
and I don't know if this is all of them
but you take all of the glyphs you paste
them in you give them a rating and then
you write a bunch of analysis about what
if you think these are good or not okay
then you consider you go back to this
Paragon board and you read each of these
legendary nodes and you figure out if
they're good or not spoiler alert for
barbs most these legendary nodes are not
good and legendary nodes are usually
placed very far away from entering
exiting and away from the glyphs so
going to get them is usually a huge
ordeal so with for example with Barb
legendary Powers not being very good
it doesn't force me to take certain
boards
and I can choose my board positioning
and Order
based upon my glyphs
so then when then we look at the we look
at the glyph ranks or we make you take
all the glyphs that we think are going
to be good I listed like
nine or so that I think would be good
and typically for most people you can
get six total glyphs and you need to
make your top six and I went here over
and over and over to try to rank them
for upheaval and the really only
question is which one would win
territorial or might and we did a big
analysis and pretty much unanimously
came to the conclusion that territorial
is better even when you put might in a
forty percent uh really good board like
weapon Master it just seems territorial
is still strictly better by the way part
of the reason why territorial run is
exactly why exactly the same thing I
talked about earlier territorial might
not necessarily be a lot more damage but
it's definitely more defense combined
with the damage that's why it's better
anyway then I ordered them and I said
this is the order that I would really
like
um the these glyphs to come in
and prioritizing making my build work
not making my build strong not I'm not
gonna one shot level 100 Uber Lilith or
whatever the hell the the endgame boss
is but my build's going to work I'm
going to meet fast and I'm going to have
resource generation and I'm going to be
able to play
okay so then once we have that then we
go draw an optimal path so if we go here
uh my builds I have so many builds let's
go here Paragon boards then I go in here
and I draw a path
and we are able
let me let me go back one more time
Marshall's going in the starter board
and I look here and I see wrath costs
decks within the glyph radius to buff
its power exploit cost decks strength
strength Dex okay it's strength or decks
might would have been completely
different it doesn't require anything
which was interesting
then I go back here to our little math
equation
and I ask myself first of all what
legendary powers do I need early and
that's from warbrbringer and I look and
I ask myself is warbringer a good Dex
does it have a high value of Dex within
a four radius that would be good for
what I'm saying is my second best glyph
and magically the answer is yes if you
look down here warbrbringer is tied for
the most decks and it has the Legendary
Power that I want
so it's an it turned once you once you
turn it into a math equation it's kind
of a no-brainer that warbrbringer has to
be attached to the starting node if you
know my analysis on what's good or not
is correct it's obviously all hinged on
that
so then from there it becomes very easy
to understand that I need a socket
warbrbringer and you get here you socket
it in and then you take all the Dex
nodes and then you realize I have to go
grab this legendary node and which way
do you go well this power is better this
yellow power instead of going this way
and you also have to consider the travel
time and then you go over here and then
I go same thing go over here exploit is
what I want next and it needs decks and
then Crusher is next and it needs
strength so I need some really good
combination of a DEX board and then a
strength board and I don't need the
legendary power so all I can look at is
how long does it take me to get out of
the node and which ones are giving me
the which ones are giving me powers that
actually help me
I can look at Hemorrhage and say I'm
never going to use this because I don't
bleed or do physical damage over time on
upheaval this sucks this is damage to
bleeding enemies I'm never using this
but I can narrow it down and start
truncating some of the Paragon boards
and then you start to see sort of the
right answer sort of form in front of
you
anyway I'm sure you get the idea now
then you run through all the Paragon
boards and you put in all the important
nodes and then comes the fine tuning so
I got here and I spent all my points and
then I looked in a radius around the
glyphs at the rare nodes in every board
and I tried to see which ones which ones
of these are really good that I missed
maybe I could take a little step over
and go grab them and my conclusion was
the really really good ones are actually
at the end so this one for example gives
you 10 damage and four percent life and
10 extra damage if you get 200 strength
which is going to be trivial to get on a
Barb so taking a step down here and
grabbing all these nodes was a huge
power boost same thing up here grabbing
10 physical damage and 10 extra and then
it's going to be 32 physical or Elite
damage if we can get the dexterity these
are just Godly Godly nodes so then I
went in here and I surgically picked out
a couple of nodes in every single glyph
socket where it makes sense making sure
that I still have the glyph bonus to
make sure I could walk over here and
grab these super Godly rare notes
and then at the end of that
and then we finally have our endgame
build which should work very very well
should work very beautifully we should
have all the important glyphs in the
right order we should have all of the
all of the boards that give me the
powers that I want and put the glyphs
associated with them where they get a
lot of stats to pump up their actual
glyph Powers then only at the very end
do we take out a few of them we
sacrifice a few of them to look at the
board one more time to grab the super
good rare nodes that are just outside of
where we are so we don't spend
too many points now maybe there's a way
to take this and save a couple extra
points or do some crazy rotations and
unspec this and rotate this and Walk
This Way and save two points
there's always ways to make it better
but even if this Paragon board isn't
perfect it's there's a lot of thought
put into it it's kind of like solving a
math equation
so anyway uh I I don't want to keep
talking and maybe this is really boring
you and maybe this makes you guys really
mad because oh yeah you're taking all
the fun out of the game I mean you don't
have to watch the build guys play it
however you want
um but for those of you that appreciate
this kind of stuff I thought it might be
interesting just to make a video showing
you what are the things that I'm
thinking about here on my stream on my
own in the testing in the max role
meetings that we sit here and argue
about for hours every single day to try
to arrive at builds that are just Godly
for you
so it's going to be a lot of fun no
matter how much effort I put into this I
don't have all the information no matter
how much I try there is a zero percent
chance that I will make a perfect build
there is a zero percent chance anyone
will make a perfect build there are
always ways to make things better and
the game will evolve and as it becomes
more complicated it's going to make the
equations harder and the possibilities
greater which I think is going to be
very fun I'm really looking forward to
Diablo for uh I wasn't always as excited
as I am now but I think blizzard has
done a really good job and I think I
think this is going to last us a long
time I think a lot of good things are
coming so hopefully you're getting Good
Vibes out of this so I'm going to be
doing this on my stream every day pretty
much until the game comes out I did a
lot of work on Barb today I had chat
vote you'll never guess they voted me to
do Druid tomorrow
so my friend boiler a really Godly
player he made a full planner for
pulverized Druids so we're going to work
on it together tomorrow and have chat
roast us and see how close we are again
we've got we've got all the information
here for
um we have all the information here for
the Druid boards and then we can take
the glyphs and rank them and and see
what's good and what's bad and uh
another thing that I can tell you I want
to tell you one one final thing
uh I'm talking to George George is
working with me on Barb on Max role
um I can I can guarantee you I'm a
thousand percent sure that this build
this Paragon board the glyphs in the
Paragon board and the legendary powers
taken here which these legendary powers
are really stupid by the way because I'm
certain there's legendary powers that we
haven't seen
and I think they're going to be some of
the best ones you can put the best
legendary Powers here that you could
find but it's not it's nowhere near good
enough to what you can actually do
but what I wanted to tell you is it will
not be the same if you copied this exact
build and made it for Rend or Whirlwind
it would win a thousand percent be wrong
and that is an indication that blizzard
made a good game if I wanted to make for
Whirlwind I could start with it it would
be a decent start but I would a thousand
percent have to change some things
because Whirlwind is focusing on
bleeding and bleeding is completely
different from what I've built here so I
think that's another exciting thing
about the game I think there's going to
be a lot there really will be a lot of
different ways to build things and the
amount of work to actually find the
different builds and the way that they
work perfectly will be tremendous and
need to be done by the entire Community
anyway I think I've talked long enough I
try to make my videos short and concise
I just wanted to make a video to tell
you this is how I approach making
leveling guides making endgame builds I
don't walk through and slap some stuff
through and say oh this this looks good
go try this it's very meticulously
calculated and thought about and I'm
still probably going to get some things
wrong no matter how much time I put in
it because the game actually looks at
least far more complex than D3 so it's
going to be great looking forward to it
here come the build guides in the next
few days for all classes I'm going to
play all classes to 100 and I hope
you'll join me on the journey thank you
