Outlines
🛠️ Overhauling the Number Three Generator Engine
The video details the process of overhauling a generator engine, which will take about 10 days. The task involves dismantling hundreds of parts, including the top covers, cylinder covers, and pistons. The process includes removing and cleaning the exhaust and intake valves, replacing piston rings, and conducting checks on various components. The old lubricating oil is drained and replaced. The entire job is expected to take around four to five working days.
🔧 Dismantling Small Parts and Cylinder Covers
Engineers begin by dismantling small parts like nuts, bolts, and electronic components. The rocker arms and fuel injectors are also removed. Care is taken to avoid losing any parts, with dismantled components stored in marked containers. The cylinder covers are secured with hydraulic nuts, requiring hydraulic pressure to release. Once removed, the cylinder covers reveal the carbon-covered piston crowns.
🧰 Loosening Piston Rod Bolts and Initial Cleaning
The connecting rod, composed of a piston rod and bearing caps, is loosened to disconnect the piston rod from the bearing caps. Initial cleaning of the piston crown is performed with a wire brush. After loosening and removing the bolts, the pistons are pulled out and placed on racks for easier handling. The overhauling process is manageable with proper education, training, and experience. The next steps will involve removing cylinder liners and bearing caps.

port and is currently underway
[Music]
it will take about 10 days before we
reach our next destination
this gives us plenty of time to carry
out the scheduled overhaul of one of our
generator engines
it is a job that involves dismantling
hundreds of parts so careful planning
preparation and coordination is required
[Music]
so today we are scheduled to overhaul
our number three generator engine
so when I say overhaul that means we'll
be removing all of the top covers the
cylinder covers
and also the Pistons
for the cylinder covers we will later on
dismantle them remove the exhaust and
intake valves and the fuel injection
valves clean them and replace the
components that need replacing
as for the Pistons we will take out the
old piston rings clean up or the
carbonize the Piston crowns and replace
the old piston rings with new spares as
well as do a crack check on the Piston
crowns and also for the connecting rod
connecting rod bolts and also the
bearings
and then we will drain all of the old
Lube oil from the crankcase
clean it and then recharge it with fresh
lubricating oil
after that we will assemble everything
back to its original state all in all
this will take about four maybe five
working days depending on the conditions
but I'm pretty sure we'll be we'll be
able to finish it in about four days
so
let's check it out
as mentioned earlier this job involves
dismantling many parts and a lot of them
are small Nuts and Bolts
so before we get to pull out the bigger
parts we need to loosen all the
attachments first
we also have to disconnect some
electronic parts mainly the
thermocouples for the exhaust gas
before we could take out the cylinder
covers we will need to dismantle the
rocker arms as well as the fuel
injectors and its attachments
for each cylinder alone we will already
need to dismantle dozens of small parts
so we need to be very careful not to
drop or lose any of them
as you can see we collect all the
dismantled parts for each cylinder in
marked containers so as not to mix Parts
with the other cylinders
the sheer number of small parts might
seem intimidating but for us Engineers
we have studied this in school and for
the more experienced ones we have done
this many times over the years
also days before starting the overhaul
we have already reviewed the schematics
and planned our course of action
simultaneously the crankcase doors are
opened and the old lubricating oil is
suctioned out of the sump tank and
drained into the sludge tank
foreign
once the rocker arms and fuel injectors
and other attachments are removed from
the cylinder covers it's time to loosen
the hydraulic nuts
the cylinder covers are firmly secured
to the engine frame by nuts that are
tightened with intense torque
hydraulic pressure is needed in order to
release or tighten these nuts
foreign
now we are ready to pull out the
cylinder covers
the cylinder covers actually take the
most time during dismantling and
assembling as they have a lot of small
attachments as we have seen earlier
but once the cylinder covers are ready
to be lifted it's all downhill from
there
as soon as the covers are lifted we can
already get a glimpse of the surface of
the Piston crown
as you can see it's covered in carbon
the cylinder covers will then be brought
to the engine Workshop
there the intake and exhaust valves will
be dismantled and the internal Chambers
cleaned
now it's time to loosen the Piston Rod
bolts
foreign
the connecting rod is an assembly
composed of a piston rod and the bearing
caps
so for the purpose of pulling out the
Piston we only need to loosen the Piston
Rod bolts and disconnect the Piston rod
from the bearing caps
foreign
while loosening initial cleaning of the
Piston Crown is done using a wire brush
after the bolts are loosened and removed
the Pistons are now ready to be pulled
out
foreign
[Music]
the Pistons will be placed on the rack
where they will be easier to work with
overhauling the generator engine might
seem like a complicated task but proper
education training and experience will
make it quite easy
from the time that we started
dismantling we managed to pull out all
the Pistons in about six working hours
foreign
we will continue with the overhaul and
I'll be showing you how we remove the
cylinder liners and the bearing caps as
well as the other remaining tasks
involved in the overhauling of the
generator engine
[Music]
thank you for watching and stay tuned
for the next one
