Transcripts
self-improvement isn't complicated nor
scary it's simply just doing things and
making the choice that will make your
life better and make you into a better
person you chose to click on this video
against the plethora of other
stimulating videos you also
subconsciously chose to make this
decision and that probably made your
life a little bit better but the truth
is as students and teenager
self-improvement is natural you'll
naturally learn adult skills learn how
to study and you'll do well there's no
doubt but the early you start AKA now
since most of you are students even the
Small Things even the incremental
changes will have massive benefits a
golf ball that you hit at 130° instead
of 129° may seem like insignificant it
may seem like there's no difference but
the further that they both start flying
in the air you start to see the
difference of their trajectory and by
the time both of the balls Land one ball
is Miles Ahead of the other and that's
why although one student may seem to do
similar things to you it's the little
things that they do that are going to
show up later down the line so will you
be the student that doesn't put in the
effort to make these little changes and
fall short and be average or will you go
beyond and beat the competition I got to
late last year when I just wasn't happy
about the type of student I was becoming
my grades are average and I was just
tired of the same old me but then I
started to cut out the bad habits and do
the things I'm about to mention in this
video and my grade skyrocketed I had the
most fun in my school year and I was
able to finally start to see results and
you can do the exact same chapter one
your studies in
school you can't talk about improving as
a student without talking about
academics and studies right your
academics and grade basically determine
your worth as a student so knowing how
to get good grades is vital even if you
dislike school and you don't really care
about academics it's important that you
still get a grip on studies and grades
because then it allows you to do the
other things that you like because as a
student there's no escaping bad grades
when I was able to get my grades up I'm
my academics on track that's when I was
able to do other things I liked like the
gym starting this YouTube channel sports
Etc because also my parents saw that I
was like taking my studies and I was
like able to maintain my grades and so
they allowed me like more freedom to do
other things and yes if you study Lots
your grades will go up that's a given
but I always hated studying and then
always had these other things I wanted
to do like going on with friends like
sports Etc so how was I able to get
perfect grades with studying so little
it's all about consistency efficiency
and persistency I never pulled an all
item I never did study marathons and I
never really cramped because I was
consistent and I did little but often
make a habit to do one practice question
a day I dualing with French every single
day that one question per day or habit
of doing little but often really does
add up in the long run because let's say
you have to study 100 hours to get a
grade n in maths a lot of people just
tend to try and cram that 100 hours the
week before the but since I was doing
like 5 minutes each day throughout like
the whole of year 11 it didn't even feel
like I was studying and those little
things all do add up this is The
Compound Effect focus on efficiency and
completing task in the least amount of
time possible although I've made so many
videos about getting the best grades you
can there are some quick fire tips that
really really help me the at20 r making
sure to do the task that gave me like
the biggest ban for my book the most
efficient task these included past
papers and flash cards making sure to
review things multiple times throughout
the day to utilize the spacing effect
make sure to do flash cards while you're
on like public transport and re utilize
time that you already have so that you
almost get like free time to study more
keep a note of your mistakes and redo
these over and over again because it's
your weaknesses that are going to come
up in exams and you're going to get them
wrong anyway the next chapter is to try
new
things so we talked about grades in your
studies and of course this will set you
off on a good trajectory as a student
you also need to pick up skills your
skills are something that you'll carry
with forever and also the truth is good
grades aren't enough to stand out as a
student I played the Claret and piano
both to creade eight distinction levels
I played binton for my school and even
winning medals and then played in the
symphony orchestra I tutor English to
kids in Korea I do kickboxing and I've
got 120,000 Subs on YouTube these are
all things that I can leverage in my
personal statement when I applied to
University it shows character and that
was also able to get good grades while
doing all these other things
universities don't really care about
your grades since all of the applicants
all meet like the minimum grade
threshhold anyway and so especially here
in the UK they look at like your
extracurriculars and what you've done
outside of school it's all about
consistency when it comes to this as
well try new things I had to try so many
other things to see which ones I enjoy
and which ones I'm good at I tried rock
climbing scuba diving swimming Golf and
out of all of these things I chose like
the ones I liked and I chose to get good
at those getting good at something is
also a skill once you realize the
dedication effort and time it takes to
get good at something these skills all
translate into like studying and grades
Etc there's a reason that students that
are good at like instruments or do other
things that are also good at studying
it's because these skills will overflow
into making you as a better character
choose something that you always wanted
to do and get good at it stay consistent
at it it will be hard and you'll find it
difficult to balance it with studying
but when you can get top grades in half
your amount of time because you have to
use that time to do other things you're
going to smoke your peers and by the way
if you're enjoying the video so far you
found these tips useful you probably
have the ambition to become a top
student if you really want to turn this
ambitious stream into reality you can
now by checking out my program the
student accelerator we bring on Experts
and guests and there's exclusive courses
and workshops for me and other experts
help you become the best student you can
be surround yourself with other
like-minded ambitious students and if
this all sounds interesting make sure to
check out my free master class in which
I introduce it which will be the first
link in the description but anyway back
to the video so let's talk about focus
and attention
span so you know how to level up your
academics and studying and we've also
talked about you can level yourself up
with skills extracurriculars to make it
all around this student but the glue
that holds all this together is this
your focus and attention span imagine
you're a diver who like searches for
treasure at the bottom of the ocean you
spend all your time learning the best
techniques of like searching through the
sea grass and like the best ways to like
open chests but none of this matters if
your oxygen tank only lasts 20 minutes
because you can't even like properly set
up and do your fancy techniques Because
by the time you like reach the bottom of
the ocean you're going to run out of
oxygen and so you'll be forced to go all
the way back up as a student your
attention span is kind of like that tank
of oxygen you try to sit down and study
you can only do so for short periods of
time you try to get good at skill and
practice and put time into it but the
attention span just isn't there this is
a problem since it takes time to get
into the Flow State and actually learn
the most so without a good attention
span you're not going to be able to
improve at a good rate this might be why
even though you study you don't get good
grades it was once I leveled up my
intention span when I saw progress in
everything I was able to push through
the hard passages of my piano pieces I
was able to make study sessions long and
that was when I started to see my grades
increase and the way to improve your
attention ban is to stop consuming short
form content instead of Instagram and
Tik Tok try watching YouTube videos
instead and then transition to Netflix
maybe then movies and then books it's
not about cutting everything out it's
about making better choices I'm not
saying not to have fun did you saw the
pattern right how can you stay focused
when you watch like 10 different video
clips in 10 seconds you have to make a
better choice that's all
self-improvement it's dedicate time to
do boring stuff and that's how it all
starts and the fourth chapter is to be
okay with setbacks
the key to self-improvement isn't to
Russia once you get on to
self-improvement you start to see like
Instagram Tik Tok as things that take
away from your ability to be able to do
things that you know you should be
studying Etc and you also start to
understand the difference between delate
and instant gratification the things
that seem pleasureable now probably harm
you in the longer run and the things
that seem hard to do now actually are
good for you in the long run and that's
how you make your future better and
there's no going back once you see like
Tik Tok and these things are bad once
you understand this concept you're not
going to suddenly like unrealized that
like social media is bad right so what's
the rush you're going to have setbacks
there's going to be time you think that
it's not working heck there's even going
to be times where you restart all of
your bad habits and it feels like all
your progress has been undone you have
to realize everyone goes through that
you going to be the person who lets the
set back stop you are you going to be
the person who overcomes it taking two
steps back to take three steps forward
is still progress in the gym your gains
and progress slow down after like a year
or two and that's when the real game
begins it's all about trying new things
and getting to know yourself better to
see if you can overcome this with a new
solution where your weaknesses where are
your strengths I struggled so much with
procrastination and I still do but it's
all an infinite game you only get better
from where you are now so this was the
concise but detailed guide to
self-improvement as a student and I
think if you mastered these four aspects
your studies skills and then using your
attention span to be able to do those
things and then making sure that you're
okay with setback so that this isn't
just like a onetime thing if you take on
board all four of these areas and
improve them I can guarantee that you'll
become a top student even better than I
and even better than the person that you
always look up to take action upon what
you learned though because as Alex OSI
said winners commit to actions whereas
losers wish for outcomes and you're a
winner and remember if you enjoyed this
video you would love to do n Thea where
I make personalized videos there's
exclusive courses and there's just
everything that you need to become a top
student make sure to check that out if
you enjoyed this as always I'll see you
