Q & A
Who is David Goggins and what is his message?
-David Goggins is a former Navy SEAL, endurance athlete, and motivational speaker known for his mental toughness and ability to push through extreme challenges. His message focuses on the importance of enduring hardships alone, self-discipline, and developing mental resilience by spending time in solitude to truly understand oneself and one's purpose.
Why does Goggins emphasize the importance of being alone?
-Goggins emphasizes the importance of being alone because solitude allows individuals to disconnect from external influences, distractions, and peer pressure. It creates the space needed for self-reflection, clarity, and understanding one's true purpose without outside interference.
What is the 'lonely chapter' Goggins refers to?
-The 'lonely chapter' refers to a phase in life where individuals feel disconnected from their current group of friends but haven't yet reached a level of success to fit in with a new circle. During this time, they are often working hard on their goals without visible results, and may feel isolated in their journey.
What does Goggins say about seeking validation from others?
-Goggins explains that people often seek validation and support from others when they are struggling, but true strength comes from rooting for oneself. He emphasizes the importance of being one's own biggest supporter, as external validation typically comes after success, when it is least needed.
How does Goggins describe the process of finding one's purpose?
-Goggins describes finding one's purpose as a long, solitary journey that requires shutting off distractions and going 'dark' to get clear insights. It involves deep self-reflection, patience, and accountability, and can take months or even years to truly understand.
What does Goggins mean by 'going dark'?
-By 'going dark,' Goggins means disconnecting from technology, people, and distractions to focus on oneself. This process allows individuals to quiet their minds, gain clarity, and make decisions based on their internal feelings rather than external influences.
What role does failure play in Goggins' philosophy?
-Failure is a crucial part of Goggins' philosophy. He views it as an inevitable part of the execution phase, where real growth and progress happen. While planning is comfortable, it is in the execution and repeated failure that individuals build resilience and success.
Why does Goggins think people struggle to do things alone?
-Goggins believes people struggle to do things alone because they are used to being around others and receiving external validation. Being on a path of exceptionalism means that one is often isolated and not supported by others, which can feel uncomfortable and challenging.
What is the significance of 'the slow clap' in Goggins' analogy?
-The 'slow clap' in Goggins' analogy represents the lonely, often unnoticed self-support that one must give themselves while pursuing a difficult path. It signifies being one's own cheerleader when no one else is rooting for you, a common experience for those on an exceptional or unique journey.
How does time spent in solitude affect an individual, according to Goggins?
-According to Goggins, time spent in solitude allows an individual to see clearly who they are, understand their purpose, and determine what fits them in life. It helps in building a deeper connection with oneself and with God, and enables better decision-making based on internal truths rather than external influences.

who is David Goggins who am I to going
through all I did it alone I suffered on
my own and developed this man who said
that's who I am man you know if you're
going to create anything of value in
this life you're going even if it's with
other people you're going to have to be
willing to to be on your own for a bit
to forge on your own to take walks alone
and then return to people to your tribe
so to speak and share with them what
you've learned or maybe even just show
up with whatever energy shift has
occurred while you were off every single
person who wants to do something with
their life and has done something with
their life has gone through the exact
chapter that you're going through and
it's the lonely chapter it's the chapter
where you you're you don't fit in with
your own friends but you don't have the
outcomes yet to fit into a new group of
friends and you're doing this thing
you're consuming content on the internet
you're you're doing these free tutorials
online to try and figure out how to set
up a podcast and where do I host this
thing and then there and and and you're
going through this and you're like am I
is this even worth it because you have
no signs of success right but if there's
anything that you can take away from
what we're saying right now is that the
sign of success is the hate that you get
along the way and what you can't do is
bend the knee to their hate and fit back
into the Conformity because it's
comfortable and it's warm because like
in The Matrix when Trinity opens the
door when when Neo's about to go take
the red pill and he wants to get out of
the car she says Neo you've been down
that road and you know exactly where it
leads and I know that's not where you
want to be and then he closes the door
the more time you spend alone with
yourself the more time that you will be
able
to understand who you are when I mean
understand who you are I'm talking about
without any outside interference without
any friends without any uh peer pressure
of wanting to be like someone else the
more time you spend
alone you're going to figure out okay
what your purpose is and I say that
because of this God will talk to you you
start seeking in those moments of not
having any outside
distractions what happens is Things
become clear clearity sets in and you're
able to make decisions not based on what
you saw that day or what you heard that
day or what that person may have said to
you you're able to make decisions based
on how you feel internally the biggest
you have to do is shut off technology
you have to go dark and what I mean by
that is you have to be quiet in your
mind get away from people we love being
around people we love talking we love we
love parties it's okay to be alone it's
also okay to be unhappy it's okay to be
unhappy sometimes man so you got to go
to the truth first who are you get get
really accountable and say okay who am I
what's the truth about me get to that
dark place in your mind figure out it
may take months may take years figure
out your purpose figure out what you
want to be in life and then from
there okay I have my purpose it may take
a long time no one knows their purpose
cuz it's too loud find your purpose from
there all right you got to start
planning people love the planning phase
cuz it's very comfortable then from the
planning phase you got to go to
execution so the execution phase where
we all hate because that's where the
real work begins and that's when the
failure happens and the failure and the
failure
but you know that's that that's kind of
how you have to do it man I've trained
99% of my life
alone no one p me on the back I did all
of the work
alone and while I'm still hard on myself
I know what I did so whenever times get
bad for me people all this who's going
to carry the boats and that's real I
hate that people know me for that guy
when they see me they want that energy
that's not me every day
I can extract it immediately when I need
to because when you train alone and I
lived alone for so many years in this
misery and you're able to get out of it
by yourself I can take myself to such a
level of real real passion and purpose
and like the feeling I get is something
I can't even exp by I don't need anyone
that's why that's why people come to me
to motivate them no one can motivate me
people only root for people who don't
need it like the amount of times when I
was on my lonely path where I was too
different from the friends that I had
but not successful enough to be friends
with the people that I wanted to be
friends with that's when that's when you
want people to root for you that's when
you want people to support you once
you've already won people are like he's
amazing he's so good but like that's the
time when you need it the least and so
you always have to be the person who
roots for you before everyone else does
and it's usually a single clap in the
auditorium for a very long period of
time it is a slow clap that's just you
rooting for you and that visual I think
is one that you can kind of take because
it is people struggle to do things alone
and the path of the exceptional person
is one of an exception which means that
you are not with other people rather
than fighting that or bemoaning it see
it as an indicator that you're on the
right path because if everyone else were
cheering you on then it means you're not
in the right place because it means
you're just like everyone else and
that's not where you want to be time
alone again will make you see first of
all who God is second of all who you are
and the third thing it lets you see what
will fit you what's suitable for your
life where is your sweet spot what works
for you
