Transcripts
the business ethics uh issues are
continually evolving new issues come up
and companies need to give guidance to
their staff about those particular
issues ethics starts where the law and
regulation ends so we're looking at
things where there's no regulation or
law the ones that are pretty consistent
that is those that are not covered by
law and regulation in most countries are
the giving and receiving of gifts and
hospitality and the other one is the
Declaration of a conflict of interest
guidance needs to be given to staff
about each of those things because they
can make up their minds but it may not
be consistent within the organization so
those are two of the ones that are are
pretty common and will continue to be so
we do a survey every 3 years asking the
general public about the ethical issues
that in in business which they consider
to be important and um the one we've
most recently done in 2015 showed that a
third of those who gave their opinion or
asked their opinion said that um
companies tax avoidance was the one they
disliked most about companies the second
one about one in four saying this that
um they don't like the differences in
executive pay from the pay of other
people in the organization the the the
the gap between the biggest and the and
the lowest is is very large in some
organizations and they particularly
focus when they're asked about this on
bonuses they don't understand them they
don't understand why it can't be part of
their normal um salaries or or whatever
it's going to be so the public is
irritated by that uh the third one is
about um what is generally called
exploitative Labor it's taking people
and making them do things in ways which
um degrades them or doesn't pay them
very much and exploits them for lots of
different reasons and that isn't only in
this country it's also it's uh their
suppliers and how they pay and exploit
other people on that the general public
doesn't like
