Transcripts

play00:01

Welcome back for another video.

play00:02

With the first gameweek of the season wrapped  up who are the best players to buy for GW2?

play00:06

Or if you've gone super early on your wildcard  the which players are needed for the best team?

play00:11

As always we'll break it down by position  and discuss everything we've learned so far.

play00:16

Starting the goalkeepers, this week  Man City are home to Ipswich which

play00:19

has Ederson top of the keeper  projections with 4.4 points,

play00:22

and marginally top of all keepers over the next  5 on 19 points, Alisson on 18.9. Raya on 18.7.

play00:32

Southampton's 0.25 expected goals conceded  was actually best in GW1 but entirely due

play00:37

to the Schar red card which changed the  game. and I've still got Southampton down

play00:40

as a team to avoid defensively unless  it's a Harwood-Bellis to stick on your

play00:44

bench permanently. Despite a reasonable  fixture this week home to Forest I'd avoid

play00:50

McCarthy. Leno for 5m looks great value  for the next 5 with Leicester home GW2,

play00:55

then they have Ipswich away, West Ham home,  Newcastle home, Forest away. Very consistent,

play01:01

with over 130 points in 3 of the past 4 seasons,  the 21/22 season he only played 4 matches when

play01:09

he was a backup keeper. Top of all keepers 5m  and below for projected points over the next 5.

play01:14

You never know with City but that Ipswich  fixture is the one to target this week and

play01:18

we'll talk about defenders and midfielders next.  Chelsea have a great run of games ahead which does

play01:22

make Sanchez appealing, though it's not a risk  I'd take on given the potential for Jorgensen

play01:26

to come in at some point. If looking for a route  into Chelsea's defense Cucurella's probably the

play01:30

one given Maresca's comments about Chilwell  not being in his plans, or possibly Colwill.

play01:36

Onto the defenders, this week Trent tops the table  again for their home game against Brentford. 0.45

play01:42

expected goals conceded in GW1 ranked third  best. He was immense on the opening weekend,

play01:47

1.06 expected goal involvement was comfortably  top of all defenders. In fact if we look at all

play01:53

positions he was third for xGI in GW1 which  is exactly what we said in last week's video,

play01:57

his underlying numbers are comparable to a  midfielder. If you've pulled the trigger on

play02:03

the early wildcard he's got to be one  of the first names on the team sheet.

play02:06

Table graphic from Scout who are  still running the 40% discount,

play02:09

take advantage while you can with the link below.

play02:11

An interesting change to FPL this season is  that points are not finalised until the very end

play02:15

of the gameweek now, which means that bonus can  change, and I assume they've done this in case or

play02:20

contentious goals such as the infamous March goal  a couple years ago. So we've seen some players

play02:25

sneak into bonus the day after their match in GW1  which was what happened with Gvardiol who ended

play02:29

with a bonus point Sunday night. He's joint second  on the defenders table this week with 4.8 points.

play02:34

If you're big at the back with these 3 you're  laughing this week. All 3 delivering in GW1

play02:40

including a Porro goal. Pedro Porro created  4 chances which was top among all defenders

play02:44

and scored a well taken header which was  Tottenham's only goal. His touch heatmap

play02:48

was absolutely ridiculous, extremely advanced  playing like a right winger and tucking inside

play02:53

too. The red cross on this graphic his average  position for the match. Graphic from Scout too.

play03:00

Porro came off early with a possible injury,

play03:02

might have only been a dead leg. Keep an eye out  for news if you have him before doing anything.

play03:06

So what do we do with Quansah? A failed punt in  GW1, quite unfortunate as Liverpool went on to

play03:11

keep a clean sheet. Slot's been very blunt and  we might yet get an indication if he'll be given

play03:16

another shot, on the one hand it would surely be  terrible for confidence to hook him at half time,

play03:21

very publicly remark on him losing duels  and then bench him next match. It could

play03:25

be a situational thing as well, Ipswich have  got some big players including striker Delap,

play03:29

they play Brentford next and if Toney's not in the

play03:31

squad again then there's far less of an  aerial presence. So not all hope is lost.

play03:36

If you can get a reasonable defense out in GW2  there's no rush to sell, 2 free transfers from

play03:41

GW3 could be seriously useful and save you a  hit down the line, and there's defenders like

play03:46

Konsa who have better fixtures from GW3 if you can  ride out one week. Another way or shaping it is,

play03:51

is it worth using 1 valuable transfer for a  defender you only need one week? Of course

play03:56

if you're counting on Quansah, Barco and some  other 4m defender it's a different situation.

play04:01

If your alternative to playing Quansah is a  defender with a rough fixture like Konsa from

play04:05

Villa, then assuming we get no hints on Quansah  GW2 you could take a punt on him starting, because

play04:08

if he starts he's got more upside, or if he's  benched he comes on for 1 point or doesn't play at

play04:13

all. Meanwhile there's high potential for Konsa to  start and concede twice also resulting in 1 point.

play04:20

Robinson is my favourite of the  4.5m defender and makes the table

play04:24

with 3.7 projected points. You'd  be happy enough to start him in

play04:27

the next 5 barring the Newcastle game  perhaps though it is a home fixture.

play04:33

There's not other cheap defenders catching my  eye for GW2, Konsa and Dunk will be solid picks

play04:38

soon but not this week. Hall didn't have a great  game in left back for Newcastle, and Livramento

play04:43

still feels risky in right back with Trippier  in the picture. If we see a Chelsea defender

play04:47

like Colwill starting a couple more in  a row he'll be right up the watchlist.

play04:50

I've thrown together a quick table of  the 4m defender watchlist. These are

play04:53

all 4m defenders that started in GW1 and  their minutes played. Greaves, Woolfenden,

play04:58

Faes, Vestegaard, Keane, Harwood-Bellis,

play05:00

Stephens and Mosquera all palyed 90. Bednarek  and Tuanzebe came off after 60 and before 90.

play05:06

Greaves and Mosquera are my two favourites,  O'Neill had high praise of Mosquera after the

play05:10

game, saying “Yeah, I was pleased with  him… He’s got so much physical quality,

play05:14

attribute wise, you know his pace, his  jump, his ability to defend one v one”.

play05:18

Though Wolves have horrendous fixtures for a  while so he's not one I'm looking at for a bit.

play05:22

Rico Lewis got the start in GW1 and was very  advanced too, I couldn't tell you what the

play05:27

likelihood is but there's been rumours of  transfer interest in Walker and if that

play05:31

materialises he'll be a gem for 4.5m and not  a bad player to take a chance on for GW2. The

play05:36

risk is if you're selling Quansah for Lewis  you're selling one minutes risk for another.

play05:42

Onto the midfielders and top of the table  once again is Salah with 8.1 projected

play05:45

points against Brentford. If you've got  Salah and not Haaland then captaincy is

play05:49

clear this week. GW1's top scorer with  14 points, he had 2 big chances, created

play05:54

2 chances, 4 shots in the box against Ipswich.  Liverpool's 2.65 expected goals was top of GW1.

play06:01

Jota also makes the table with 5.2 points and  a sound pick on a wildcard. However as far as

play06:06

transfers there's very few players that are  worth selling, I'd stay patient with Palmer,

play06:11

Son, Bruno, De Bruyne, Foden etc. The  only players that could be worth selling

play06:15

to make the Jota switch is someone  like Bowen, Odegaard, Martinelli.

play06:18

It's worth pointing out that Eze is slightly  above Jota for GW2 projections and higher over

play06:23

the next 5 for 0.5m cheaper. Don't be put off by  the blank, he was incredible against Brentford

play06:28

and had a free kick wrongfully ruled out. 7  shots. 3 on target, 3 blocked, 1 off target.

play06:34

As I said, Son and Palmer are worth being  patient with, especially Palmer now Chelsea's

play06:38

tough fixture is out of the way. Spurs are home  to Everton, before facing Newcastle and Arsenal.

play06:46

Foden was introduced at half time against  Chelsea with Savinho coming off with an injury,

play06:50

you'd imagine there's a good chance he  comes into the starting 11 and he'd be

play06:53

straight into my team if I  was wildcarding this week.

play06:56

Smith Rowe is another one to remain  patient with, the tougher game out of the

play06:59

way and two promoted teams up next for  Fulham. Same applies to Muniz up top.

play07:03

Semenyo's the other 5.5m on my watchlist, if  you saw yesterday's video he picked himself in

play07:09

his FPL team and scored. Bournemouth's next 4  aren't the best, Newcastle, Everton, Chelsea,

play07:15

Liverpool. He could be a GW6 pick especially for  those looking at that week to wildcard instead.

play07:20

We had loads of 4m defenders playing 90 in  GW1, as far as 4.5m midfielders just three,

play07:25

Iroegbunam, Winks and Sangare played 90. Lavia and  Luongo started, came off after 60 and before 90.

play07:33

I know this will be an unpopular  take but let's not sit on the fence,

play07:37

if I was wildcarding this week I wouldn't  have Salah. The big 3 would be Haaland,

play07:42

Saka and Foden. Do you  agree or disagree with that?

play07:47

Finishing up with the forwards, and look  away Haaland non-owners he's top with 8.9

play07:52

points. So Salah 8.1, Haaland 8.9. Not  a significant difference in honesty and

play07:58

the debate for weeks was whether that 2.5m  saving can make up for the points difference.

play08:04

It could be a swingy gameweek, Haaland  owners are going one way with captaincy,

play08:08

Salah owners the other. Good luck and let's hope  we land on the right side of it. What I will say

play08:14

if do not chop your team up to fit one in. I've  read some comments about dropping Haaland to get

play08:18

Salah after his haul, and comments about taking  a hit to sell Salah to get Haaland for captaincy.

play08:24

Without hindsight it's not worth it, if there was  a 2 point difference in their projected points

play08:29

then you could consider it to make up that 4  point hit via captaincy. Stick to the plan,

play08:33

it's been one gameweek and you didn't  buy your players for one gameweek only.

play08:36

A blank for Solanke on his  Spurs debut but he wasn't bad,

play08:40

I'd be more worried about Son than  Solanke based on the eye test. Solanke

play08:43

registered 1 big chance with 3 shots in  the box, 0.49 expected goal involvement.

play08:48

Watkins is another player who at this  point you may as well be patient with,

play08:52

Villa have awesome fixtures from GW3 and he did  score against Arsenal last season though it wont

play08:56

be an easy game. After an impressive showing  in GW1 leading the line for Arsenal Havertz is

play09:00

someone I'm looking to buy in GW6 when Arsenal  have Leicester and Southampton back to back.

play09:05

Keep that gameweek at the back of your head,  it's going to be worth tripling up on Arsenal.
