Transcripts
hey everyone welcome to a new video in
today's video we're going to be talking
about Pinterest ads affiliate marketing
the whole kind of process behind it and
I'm going to go deep today explaining
kind of the differences of what you
would typically do in a Pinterest ads
environment and why even this concept of
Pinterest ads affiliate marketing even
exists and uh I'll kind of really really
break it down so if you have enough time
to watch this video I know this is going
to be a long video but I'm GNA give you
guys as much value as possible here and
we're definitely gonna get into this so
without further Ado let's get into it
get your drink get a notepad get
everything you need to do so we can go
ahead and get started okay so what I'm
going to do is as I show you guys some
things gradually we're going to use the
Whiteboard to kind of explain some
things here and what we're going to be
talking about is like I said Pinterest
ads so I'm going to write this little p
i n here a DS plus affiliate marketing
AF first let's kind of break down what
this affiliate marketing piece is and
then we'll talk about how you can kind
of build it up now some of you guys
might know this basic information
already but we're going to build up to
the important information this is why I
say it's important to watch the whole
entire video to get a concept so what is
affiliate marketing it's very simple
you're an affiliate of a business right
and you're recommending that business to
other people and you get a commission
the commission usually comes in the
percentage of the sales price so as long
as you get a sale you get a commission
or a percentage of that sale now here's
the thing right not all companies work
this way but most do for the
overwhelming majority most to do so for
example uh many many people who watch
this YouTube video and many people who
watch other YouTube videos know about
ClickBank for example I'll put a little
click here so ClickBank is a Marketplace
where you can kind of access hundreds of
thousands if not millions of products uh
that are available on their Marketplace
and you get a commission when you
promote that product if the customer
buys let's just say a $100 product
depending on the creator of that product
you could get $50 you can get 70 you can
get 90 or sometimes you can only get $5
right it depends on the product it
depends on the circumstance and
ClickBank is actually one of those sites
or those examples that you actually can
get higher commissions but the product
quality tends to decrease and when I say
product quality really what I mean is
there's not too many people H who have
visited ClickBank and said you know yeah
I love to use the products that I buy
from ClickBank ClickBank is amazing um
really what it is is it it Taps into a
certain Market where you're really
tapping into the impulse buy you're
giving the product to the customer at a
bare uh quality at a bare minimum level
of quality and uh they're just kind of
using the product and that's not all the
time of course but that's most of the
time and that's why you have refund
rates that are typically a little bit
high in the industry I mean in the
e-commerce World refund rates can be
about 5% uh for ClickBank they could be
as high as 15 20 and 25% so they are
have a higher they have a higher um
refund rate for obvious reasons so
that's essentially what affiliate
marketing is now you have to go to
ClickBank there are millions of sites
there are millions of independent
businesses that have their own affiliate
programs and you can sign up for those
affiliate programs something that I'm uh
going to be doing is maybe in the future
who knows for our Pinterest ads course I
might end up putting an affiliate
program we'll see what you know the
future holds uh when we got go ahead and
do this but regardless that's what an
affiliate program is now Pinterest ads
is just plain and simple you're paying
for ads or you're paying money to
Pinterest I'll put like a little p here
to represent Pinterest in order to or in
hopes of seeing your ad or having your
ad being seen by a multitude of people
so I'll try to draw some stick figure
people here you know some big heads some
little heads and basically what your
goal is your goal is to have as many
people see your ad as possible right so
that you can eventually get a customer
on that ad somebody clicks the ad right
your link to the ad is an affiliate link
and this is how people used to do it and
I'll explain kind of how you can get a
leg up on the competition but your
affiliate link then is taken and it's
clicked through the ad and that takes
the customer to the actual landing page
so you see the funnel here and I want
you guys to understand what a funnel is
because if you're going to get into
Pinterest advertising or any advertising
as a matter of fact you need to
understand what a funnel is okay so a
funnel is simply a process imagine you
had let's just say like a bottle of
water here right I'm going to try to
draw a little water like this and you
have a funnel so this is your funnel
right and this is the the tube of the
funnel where kind of the stuff goes in
and in your funnel you can choose right
to pour your protein powder in there
when you pour it in right in a marketing
kind of concept when people reach the
water you've achieved the Sal so you've
achieved the conversion this is a very
important word conversion and I actually
should make a different video on this in
the future to explain Pinterest funnels
or any kind of funnels but this is the
conversion and every single stage that
the protein powder I.E your potential
customers move down the funnel you're
getting them closer to the conversion
now in the world of internet marketing
affiliate marketing especially the
funnel is a concept or a word that's
being used a lot okay and really what it
works how it works is it works like this
is that you're paying for the ad to be
seen the customer now knows who you are
effectively they have entered the funnel
just by seeing you they' have entered
the funnel but there's a chance that
they might not move down the funnel so
they don't necessarily have to purchase
the product but they're in the funnel
they're in your capture sphere in the
world of advertising we could call this
they are in your pixel or they are in
your cookie it's really the same thing
um because these are what we call
tracking codes and when people advertise
right you have a tracking code and
sometimes you don't even need them to be
in your pixel or in your cookie to track
them because Pinterest allows you to
hyper Target right your individuals of
who you want to Target so for example
here is Tracy and here we have Sam and
Sam let's just say he is vegan and he
loves cookies and Tracy is a meat eater
right let's just say she loves uh
hunting and she eats that deer meat well
if I'm selling vegan cookies I can
Target Sam right I can Target him and I
can show him my product showing him my
ad which is essentially in this case on
the nature of Pinterest it's my pin that
looks just like this and then what
happens is it turns into money if I can
convert him or her and I can move her or
or him whoever down the funnel does that
make sense so now let's kind of talk
about the intricacies the nuances to
Pinterest ads with affiliate marketing
the first thing you have to understand
is although Pinterest is cheaper by
about 5 to nine times uh cheaper than
that of Facebook and that of Google that
does not necessarily mean you will fully
cover the cost of the ad in terms of
affiliate Market marketing because
remember you're paying or you're being
paid a percentage of the sale you're not
being paid the wholesale you're being a
percentage and what happens is is what
you have to understand is the cost of
the ad has to be less than and and when
I say the cost of the ad I really mean
the cost to convert a customer from the
ad that's really what I mean has to be
less than the percentage of the money
then you will get on a return so let me
put things into perspective here for you
and really this is a math game you have
to do the mathematics on this okay let's
just say you're uh CPC and the only way
to figure this out is you actually have
to go out there and run some ads your
CPC your cost per click let's just say
is 12 cents okay let's just say is 12
cents and we're for all the
international Watchers we're speaking in
US Dollars here so let's just say 12 C
okay and let's just say your conversion
rate okay is a 3% and 3% for the normies
for the average people
is average I mean maybe mid average I
wouldn't say good average I wouldn't say
bad but it's mid for the normies uh for
somebody like me with all due respect
and I'm not trying to disrespect anybody
but this is a very bad conversion rate
for somebody like me because I focus
highly highly on on laser targeting I
don't play games with the 3% what I try
to shoot for is 6% and up I've had a
business before that had 16% conversion
I even had 1% I had a business that had
a 33 or
32.3% conversion rate and that was back
in
2017 something like that so times do
change of course things get more
difficult more competitive over time but
let's just say 3% because the normies
are watching right so 3% okay and and
you pay pay 12% or 12 cents per click
now if you have to do the math how much
does it cost you to get one sale well
it's kind of obvious right what you have
to do is you have to calculate how many
uh if I send a 100 visitors how many
customers will I get right so if my
conversion rate is 3% I'm probably going
to have to send about 303 visitors to my
site in order to get one sale right
because think about it what
100 ided by 3 right that is 33.3 roughly
so I'm going to have to send either 34
or 33 custom uh people to my site to get
a single sale now let's do the math if
we pay 12 cents per click and we send
100 people right then what we're really
going to get is we're going to get three
sales not one sale but three if we once
again if we pay for a 100 clicks if we
pay for 33 clicks or 34 clicks then we
will have to pay then we will get one
sale but here's the thing right so let's
do the math on this 34 clicks okay times
.12 which is the cents the pennies that
you're paying comes out to
$48 okay now if you're selling let's
just say an ebook where your commission
is
$2.50 would it be reasonable to run this
ad the answer is absolutely not but
here's the problem this is why I say you
have to be good at targeting which is
exactly what our Pinterest course does
for you it helps you do that helps you
find the laser targeting you have to be
very very good at targeting and you have
to learn how to not waste money from an
algorithm perspective of course you can
do tests in the beginning of your ad
spend which by the way once again the
amateurs do uh testing um I've told I've
said this so many times before but we
don't run tests on our ads when we run
an ad we know that they're going to work
from a targeting perspective okay from a
targeting perspective we know they're
going to work so it is what it is but
what you need to do is you need to do
the math and see how much will it cost
CPC for this Niche and then what you
have to do is you have to find a product
that yields more return than the cost
per conversion so in this case what is
the cost per conversion on a 12 cent CPC
with a 3% conversion what what is it
it's
$48 so in my case I need to make more
than
$48 per sale right not including taxes
to be able to actually generate a profit
all right so think about that there's a
lot of things that come into play and
the reason why we go as far as this as
we say the reason why this matters is
because there are people out there who
are making 10 million a month 2 million
a month off of running these affiliate
marketing Pinterest ads and when I say
10 million Ion 2 million 50 million
that's not an ex exaggeration um in fact
there are people in China who run uh
drop shipping stores who make something
like 50 million in Revenue a month or 52
million in Revenue a month for their
Drop Shipping and all they do is they
run ads so what matters is when you're
running this you have to calculate many
things you have to calculate your tax
okay how much is your taxes going to be
taken out for you to yield a profit if
I'm bringing home let's say $13 per sale
okay and I'm paying $48 to achieve the
sale well then I don't really have to
worry about tax I'll be able to afford
it um if I I also have to worry about
fees right so transfer fees am I
transferring the money to my bank
account where I might not have a fee or
wiring fee or am I transferring it to
PayPal where there might be fees are
there currency exchange fees there is a
lot of things you have to pay attention
to when it comes down to running these
ads on a large scale of course you know
if you're if you're testing $100 here
$1,000 there I mean you can cough it up
to just experimenting but if we're
talking about you know you're making 20
30 50 Grand a month then it's something
you really have to focus on which is
every single payment that you have to
make out of the profit yield because
let's just say you make $5 for every one
sale well it cost you $48 to achieve a
that so then you are left with
effectively like what 92 cents to to to
yield as a profit is it worth it then in
that case it depends on the situation so
you're going to have to factor in these
things the taxes the fees all these kind
of things now let me go ahead and kind
of explain something to you that might
make this a little bit better because I
just kind of brought to your mind or the
idea that fees are involved taxes are
involved so how can we decrease this CPC
and this is very important and we should
actually talk about this in another
video but I I'll kind of go over it
lightly here because I'm not going to be
able to talk about everything but how
can we decrease cpcs that should be the
goal decrease cpcs for Pinterest ads
specifically if you're doing affiliate
marketing sometimes when you own the own
you own the product yourself or it's
your own website which I highly
recommend you do um the cost doesn't
really matter because you could just
increase the cost of your products a
little bit you know without messing the
targeting um sometimes you can you know
do little upsells do conversion rate
optimization there's things you can do
on your website that can help that to
you know yield a better profit but if
you can't control that what else can you
do to increase the CPC well first off
you can have better targeting now better
targeting I want you guys to understand
this I even spoke about this on the
landing page of the Pinterest ads course
on pin ads Pro I actually me mentioned
this I'm not sure where I mentioned this
but basically you are actually saving
money long term by having better
targeting and I'll I'll explain so when
you have better targeting yes the CPC
will rise right the cost per click might
go from like 0.12 to let's just say 64
or something like that or 0.12
2 33 and I'm just giving you examples
I'm not saying that it's necessarily
like this but when you get better
targeting it does cost more because it's
harder to find the ideal user however
and this is the big however your
conversion rate drastically increases so
when your conversion rate drastically
increases what tends to happen is
although the CPC costs more the
conversion rate makes up for that so for
example instead of having a 3%
conversion rate you might end up having
a 7 half% conversion rate by spending an
extra 50 Cent
in that case you can squeeze in double
or a little bit more the amount of
customers in an instance of spending
that 408 and then you ask yourself is it
worth it to you to have double the
customers but instead of spending 408
end up spending let's say $7 right the
answer is absolutely and the reason why
is because you're literally doubling
your Revenue so there are different
things that you could do the first thing
you could do is have better targeting
now once again just to be clear the
better your targeting is yes the CPC
cost will rise a little bit it won't
break our back but it will rise a little
bit but it will increase conversion
rates okay that's the first thing the
second thing that you can do is increase
the length of the funnel now once again
you're going to notice something here
you're going to notice a trend the more
you increase the length of the funnel
the more it cost over time but the more
profit it yields down the road and it
increases conversion rates down the road
one of the things that you need to
understand is when you're de increasing
cpcs indirectly the cost increases
directly that's a very important thing
to understand I probably should write
that down we should probably talk about
that again but anyways the length Okay
of the funnel now what do I mean by the
length of the funnel it's very simple do
you remember when we spoke about the
funnel earlier when we talked about just
the customer seeing your or technically
they're not a customer they're just a
viewer but just them seeing your ad
they're effectively in the funnel if
you've targeted them properly and if you
pixelated them or cookie them well what
happens is you can increase the length
of this funnel create more interactions
between you and the user before you end
up getting the sale there's this stat
online I it's probably not true uh but
they say that you know customer has to
see your site or your product seven
times before they make a purchasing
decision I can tell you many times that
that's not the case I have many
customers that have bought the very
first time the second time just cold
traffic ads but um the more they know
about you create something called trust
and once again we spoke about this in
the course but trust is one of these
things that improve conversion rates
drastically part of the reason
amazon.com is successful is because
customers trust them they know that they
could be able to return something
whenever they want they know the
business owner they know the business
they know how the business you know
operates and they don't really feel like
it's a risk to buy products from there
so trust is a huge thing so that's an
example and so when you increase the
interactions how can you do that for
example you could run an ad with a blog
post and then the blog post is made to
inform and then the blog post of
information takes them to a link to the
sales page that's an example of creating
an extra step now some people are
against this strategy some people are
for it we could really talk about this
all day long and I could spend hours
talking about this but here are two good
examples two big examples of exactly how
you can uh decrease those
cpcs um for Pinterest ads so that's it
guys affiliate marketing with Pinterest
ads can you do it absolutely but it
comes down to a numbers game and a
targeting game and I've said this before
but the most important thing when it
comes down to Pinterest that we do over
what everyone else does in their
Pinterest ads is that we laser target
from the start the ideal customer I
always say this but um I find customers
that are looking for my product I don't
try to convince customers that it's a
good product to buy and I've said this
in the course I've said this you know
many times over and uh hopefully this
video was beneficial to you and if you
have questions on affiliate marketing
with Pinterest ads let me know all right
I'll talk to you guys later thank you
guys for watching peace out bye
