Then she suddenly got angry,
Yelled at me loudly,

And then,
She scolded me for a long time,
Including some swear words in between.
Originally, I planned to compare nursing jobs in Germany and Hong Kong,
But the part about Hong Kong kept getting longer and longer, So I decided to make a separate episode XD
Hello everyone,
Welcome to "TP Diary",
I'm Kait,
A Hong Kong person on Working Holiday in Germany.
In this episode, I want to share with you some
of my previous work experiences in Hong Kong.
The next episode will also continue
to share my previous work experiences in Germany.
If you're interested,
Remember to subscribe to my channel.
Let's get started right away.
First, let me introduce myself briefly.
that my major in university was nursing.
It takes five years to complete,
And there are also practicum
practicums in different wards halfway through,
Such as internal medicine,
Surgery, or specialized wards, etc.
There are probably thousands of hours involved.
In addition to that,
I also worked part-time at this HA public hospital.
I work in this TUNS (Nurse Student Part-time) position,
In an acute internal medicine ward,
It's been about 3 years already.
TUNS (Nurse Student Part-time) is a position specially designed for students,
You can learn and earn some extra income.
Because they are short of manpower,
They want to find some students to help
And share their workload.
practicums,
Approximately 8-9 hours a day,
You might have practicum 5-6 days a week (mistake).
So I need practicum
Or when it's exam time,
I rarely go back to TUNS (Nurse Student Part-time).
Maybe if there weren't these things,
I usually work one or two days a week.
After graduating,
I also returned to work in the nursing industry for about half a year.
I participated in some agencies like XX Care,
They introduced many job opportunities,
Such as private nursing, nursing homes,
Elderly day centers,
And during the COVID period,
I also worked in some isolation centers or testing centers.
During my work experience,
The most challenging part was working for 20 consecutive days,
And each day required working in the same shift.
They had 12-hour shifts,
So I also worked for 12 hours,
Plus the commuting time of two hours,
It totaled to 14 hours of work per day.
And I worked continuously for 20 days.
Unfortunately, at that time, the workload was too heavy,
(Thinking about it makes me want to cough.)
And unfortunately, I contracted COVID during that time.
I think it must have been while I was working.
And then I had to stop working,
Because there was no insurance compensation,
Nor sick leave or income.
So the downside of this job was
There wasn't much security.
Once you fell ill,
You had to stop working and stop earning.
But the upside was,
The pay was high.
If you were familiar with an agent,
There was a chance to get higher-paying jobs.
So,
Let's talk about the main topic.
About my previous practicum
practicum experience,
practicum is a relatively tough process.
Hierarchy is very serious in the ward.
For example,
Entering a ward,
The lowest level is usually nursing students,
And the highest might be the ward manager or other senior positions.
Usually, those who work in the ward
Are personnel in these positions.
As a student,
The situation is not very advantageous,
Because you are a novice,
You often have to deal with tasks that others are unwilling to do or find difficult,
Such as changing diapers, feeding, wound cleaning, bathing, or diaper changing.
These are usually the tasks that people are least willing to do.
I still remember
My first experience working as a TUNS (Nurse Student Part-time) was not pleasant.
I was quite clumsy at the time.
I signed up for TUNS (Nurse Student Part-time) as a Year 3 student,
Because I wanted to earn some extra income,
But when I arrived at the TUNS (Nurse Student Part-time) ward,
I lacked of experience at the time,
I had only participated at two or three places.
Upon arriving,
I was assigned to a quite busy have practicumal medicine ward,
And on the first day,
As soon as I arrived,
I was the only student there
Because they seemed not to like the night shift.
There were supposed to be two TUNS (Nurse Student Part-time) working together,
But it ended up just being me.
At the beginning of my shift,
Everything seemed to be going smoothly,
With a nurse guiding me around,
Introducing me to the work environment.
Suddenly, something happened,
And she was called away to deal with something else,
So I was left standing there,
Not knowing what to do,
Because it was my first day on the job.
Then,
A nurse with a bad temper came over and asked me,
"Hey, student,
What are you doing here?
Why aren't you quickly doing those tasks?"
And I said to her,
"I'm sorry,
I don't know what to do,
I don't know what I should be doing right now."
And then she suddenly got angry,
Yelled at me loudly,
"What are you doing?
What grade are you in?
Which university do you attend?
Why don't you even know these things?"
And then,
She scolded me for a long time,
Including some swear words in between.
She suddenly got angry,
Picked up that board,
The medical records board,
And slammed it hard on the table,
Then said,
"Oh, forget it,
I'll do it myself."
The whole ward heard her scolding me,
I was very unhappy at that time,
Because it was my first day at work,
And I didn't have much experience,
I shouldn't have just accepted those tasks casually,
I really didn't know what to do.
I was very unhappy,
So I hid in the bathroom,
I really didn't want to go back.
In the end,
Some kind-hearted nurses comforted me,
But later, I continued to work,
Mainly because of money issues,
And also because some kind-hearted nurses would talk to me,
Like "that nurse."
Actually, her personality was very bad,
She liked to cause trouble,
Many people have been troubled by her,
She also helped me check "that nurse's" working hours,
So when I reported for duty,
I would try to avoid her as much as possible,
Because I found it a very unpleasant experience.
Afterward,
I would try to find some good people willing to teach me,
To ask some questions,
The work was busy,
The environment was also busy,
Everyone was constantly working,
If you stopped,
You would be criticized,
And many things needed to be done proactively by yourself,
Even if no one asked you,
You had to take the initiative to do them,
That's the work culture and environment here.
Because you are a student,
So you have to do some of the lowest-level tasks,
Even if no one asks,
You have to take the initiative to do these things,
If you can't finish them,
They will definitely scold the students first,
This is helpless,
Because you are at the lowest level,
And there are many things.
During my practicum
I encountered many senior nurses with bad attitudes.
They not only scolded students but sometimes even got angry with patients.
I remember one time in the corridor
I didn't know the nurse,
A patient asked her if she could have a better attitude.
Then the nurse got angry,
She said, "I've already done a lot for you,
This and that,
Isn't that good enough for you?"
And the patient became very unhappy,
He said, "By acting like this,
Are you saying I deserve to be sick?
Then they just kept arguing,
And they got louder and louder,
So this is quite a common situation,
Usually, everyone just avoids it.
There's also a culture of small circles,
This culture is usually based on different schools.
I had a friend before,
He might have gone to some hospitals,
As soon as he arrived there,
People would ask him which school he was from,
Or what his background was like,
And then they would ask him where he had worked before,
And based on his answers,
People's attitudes would vary significantly,
Depending on the schools or hospitals he had worked at before.
I've also tried working in other wards before,
I was doing my job as usual,
I had done it many times elsewhere,
But apparently, some places or some schools have different teaching methods.
When I followed the second method,
I don't remember what it was exactly,
I kept working,
At this point,
A nurse kept staring at me,
After finishing, she came over with an unhappy expression and said,
"Student,
Which school are you from? (slip of the tongue)"
When I heard this question,
I knew something was wrong,
I couldn't avoid it,
I could only answer honestly,
And then she said, "Oh, I see,"
And then she left,
She didn't tell me what I did wrong,
Or what had happened,
I didn't know what her intentions were,
So,
Maybe when you're in some unfamiliar places,
It's harder to endure,
And there may be some private hospitals,
They may have some so-called "biological children",
They are all from the same nursing school,
They hang out together,
And they may not be very friendly to you,
Sometimes they might even bully you.
"Where you studied or what university you attended,"
They might say some unpleasant things,
But in reality,
Everyone's work or way of doing things
Doesn't necessarily depend on where they graduated from,
Or how much education they have.
So,
This is unchangeable,
Where you're from or where you graduated,
Will affect your future job or how people comment or treat you,
This is undeniable.
In some sweat-and-blood wards during our practicum
We were treated very poorly there.
That's where we were,
As soon as they knew students were coming,
They immediately called in some Health Care Assistants (HCA),
Told them which days they could take off,
And told them:
"At this moment, students are responsible for your work,
So you can take your leave."
And then we started working,
We had to do everything,
Rarely had the chance or time to learn or try new things.
I remember one time,
It was very busy,
We only had one HCA (Health Care Assistant),
And then a female nurse asked us,
"Students,
At this moment, we have XXX (medical procedure),
Are you interested in watching?"
Of course, we said,
"Yes, we'd like to see,"
Because we hadn't seen it before.
At this moment,
The HCA came over and said,
"What are you looking at?
Who's going to help me with the work?
Who's going to help me take blood pressure?"
That's how it was,
Most of the time, we were doing their work.
You ask me what I learned,
Actually, I didn't learn much.
And there are some strange cultures regarding overtime (OT) in some sweat-and-blood wards.
For example, regarding overtime (OT),
It means working overtime,
That's just how it is,
If everyone has time to leave work,
They won't proactively say they're leaving,
Like, "I'm leaving,
I'm leaving now."
They won't,
They will definitely continue working,
And then when maybe the nurse in charge/manager says they can leave,
Then they'll leave.
Sometimes, you're lucky,
You might delay leaving for an hour or two,
But sometimes you're not so lucky,
They might be in a bad mood,
I'm not sure why they won't let you leave,
But they just won't let you leave,
And you really have to stay there.
Maybe you've tried for three hours,
Maybe that's just how it is,
Sometimes when it's time to leave,
They'll come over and ask me,
"Students, what time are you leaving?
And we'll tell them the truth,
And then they'll ask, "Oh,
You're leaving at this time?
Then go help me transport a patient to wherever right away."
After hearing what time you'll leave,
They won't let you leave (even if it's time to leave),
Instead, they'll tell you to keep working,
To continue doing things.
So everyone just silently does their work,
And dare not resist.
That's also the case in more sweat-and-blood wards,
There are many good and bad experiences.
I once experienced being sick during my practicum
practicum because I had worked for more than ten days in a row,
And then I got sick,
At that time, it seemed like I stayed in the hospital for a night,
I had to wait in the emergency room to be called.
There were also several times before and after when I immediately felt very uncomfortable,
It was really a bad situation,
And then I had to go to the emergency room immediately.
So actually, I think this job is really a bit,
You have to force it with your health or life,
But it's not the worst.
Encountering people in bad hospital wards
Encountering some bad university mentors
They really are
Sometimes they take some students out for practicum
And it's up to them to decide
Whether the student can pass
Some of them
I think they are a bit psychologically abnormal
We were also very hard at that time
Maybe even
That teacher targets you
Or he really thinks you can't
You're not okay
Maybe after you finish your practicum
You've worked eight or nine hours
Completed A shift early
In the afternoon, he still asks you to practice
To ask you about your studies
For example, he asks you something
You have to answer immediately (and he calls you like crazy after work)
But you've already worked 8-9 hours that day
It's actually quite tiring and hard
So even with practicum
Doesn't mean you're off
In fact, you have to complete reports, write journals, etc.
In addition, there are some presentations
You also have to participate
These all directly affect whether your practicum
So I felt a lot of pressure at that time
Because the environment was very bad at that time
Plus, you can't take a break at all
So I got sick
Had to be hospitalized
I remember one time I went to the hospital because I was sick
Because I often get sick
I was waiting in the emergency room
Then I received a call
That call was from the mentor
He started off by asking
What's wrong with you? Sick again?
So I had to tell him I wasn't feeling well
With a tone of disbelief afterwards
I also have a memorable experience
Although nothing major happened
But I've always kept it in mind
There was one time
Everyone knows the working environment of hospitals is very bad
Very high pressure
We often had insufficient beds at that time
The beds were very tight
Some were even folding beds
So
There was simply not enough space
I remember one time
The ward was full
A young woman was admitted
Maybe around 20-30 years old
Suddenly burst into tears
"She said: We treated her like animals."
Perhaps because we were too busy at the time
Our attitude may have been poor
Coupled with the bad environment
She may not have had enough privacy or space
Maybe she was already sick
There was nowhere for them to rest
Because everyone was very noisy
Very crowded
She burst into tears
Feeling somewhat unhappy
Because I originally wanted to play the role of helping people
But for some reason
It seems like we put pressure on her or others
Of course
These things are not solely one person's fault
We have all experienced many patients' accusations
The atmosphere among colleagues is also not good
Patients complain again
The environment is bad
Nurses' attitudes towards patients are very poor
In this job
I feel like I was already at my limit during the practicum
Just dealing with the work at hand was already very difficult
If you add new tasks
Or deal with patients' emotions
The patients' feelings
It's actually very difficult
So
This is something I find very difficult
Plus, this job
May not necessarily bring us satisfaction
For workload
We deal with a lot of things every day
These jobs are actually very hard
Maybe you're just one person
Basically
I see nurses sometimes don't even have time to eat
If you go to the bathroom frequently
If you frequently drink water
Others will think you're trying to slack off
In this line of work, you often have to have a strong bladder and can't be thirsty or drink water
So it's hard too
Sometimes you may start early (around 6:30-14:30)
Only have one meal for breakfast
And you have to work until the afternoon
Overtime
Or they may not let you leave
Until three or four in the afternoon
During this time, you've only had one meal, and it was in the morning
So when you get home
You're definitely going to binge eat
Meal times are completely chaotic
Furthermore
Because you're hungry, you keep eating
After work, you're tired and just want to sleep (your schedule is also very chaotic)
So it's also not good for your stomach
I often feel gastrointestinal discomfort
Might take painkillers
Because there's a lot of physical labor every day
Sometimes you're the only one cleaning wounds
Moving a heavy patient
And most patients may not have the ability to turn over by themselves
So you have to rely on yourself
When cleaning wounds on the back or buttocks
You can only rely on your own brute force to get it done
And sometimes you need to change diapers, change bed sheets, change clothes, turn patients over
Most people don't have the ability to turn over
So you have to rely on your own strength to help them
So in this line of work, there are often cases of back injuries, sprains, and foot pain
I'm certainly no exception, so I have to take painkiller every day
And due to lifestyle habits, I started having problems with my stomach
Sometimes I even vomit or have stomach pain
Sometimes I even need to go to the emergency room for treatment (once I needed to be hospitalized lol)
So there's no way around it
Possible this experience may make people feel
detached from HA full-time will be happier after the stir fry
It depends on the job or client
Some clients may feel
Because they pay you to provide private nursing services
You should do everything without rest every minute and every second
Such as folding towels, washing dishes, changing diapers every hour, helping with phlegm, assisting with personal hygiene
Even if they don't want soup dregs when they drink soup
They may ask you to help them deal with the soup dregs
And many other additional tasks
I think it depends on the individual
Some clients are good
There are also some other places
Such as nursing homes
That's a different place
Because I've been to two nursing homes myself
They usually save on expenses or budget issues
So they hire a lot of ENs (Enrolled Nurses)(EN- Enrolled Nurse, Training time is shorter than registered nurses, Mainly responsible for some simpler nursing procedures)
One RN (Registered Nurse) plus one EN (providing care for more than 40 patients)
The role of RN is to lead EN
But you also know
Some ENs have deep qualifications and knowledge
But maybe because they didn't take courses
Or didn't attend RN courses
Their wages are much lower
However
Sometimes the work in nursing homes is not much different
So when you enter
If you are particularly young
Or your aura is insufficient
You are more likely to be influenced by them
They won't listen to you at all
Then they will say a lot of unpleasant words
So the situation is quite difficult in fact
So I think
Every place has its hard places
I used to work in a testing center
Testing center
More terrifying
Not the content of the work
But the relationship between people
They usually report shifts
It's just free shifts
Then tell the agency
This is the time to work
And then based on how many people
Or how many shifts he has
Then assign it to others
Some people get more shifts
Some people have a good relationship with that agency
Because they naturally get better shifts
Or more shifts
On the other hand, some people
Will get fewer shifts
So there is a situation of uneven distribution at this time
Everyone will do whatever it takes to earn more money,
wanting more bonuses by any means necessary.
I once heard
that is to say
they had a nurse
who got a lot of bonuses.
Some other people,
not satisfied with her getting so many bonuses,
were very jealous of her.
It's as if they even got together with other nurses
to spread rumors and write a fake complaint letter,
pretending to be a customer complaining about that nurse.
In the end, that nurse
didn't go back to that place
and was dismissed.
But why do other people
feel she was wrongly accused?
The main reason is that after the nurse who was framed left,
a few remaining people
found the letter
actually had many professional terms and details,
basically things outsiders wouldn't know.
However,
many professional terms appeared,
and they felt they must be nurses,
must be insiders,
writing this letter to complain.
Besides that,
I was targeted by them once too.
But luckily,
in short,
for a period, Igot more bonuses.
After they found out,
when I was working,
they would watch me,
see if I made any mistakes.
If I did make some mistakes,
they would report to IC
And why would I know?
It's because that supervisor at the time
was pretty good,
and quietly reminded me,
saying, "Hey, be careful,
you're being watched."
When you're doing your job,
maybe you're not doing the hardest work,
it's the interpersonal relationships
which are actually the hardest.
So, actually, this job,
I think, has its ups and downs.
Everyone actually bears physical and mental pressure,
and nobody is compensated for it.
So, in the end,
I also realized
I couldn't adapt to this job (in Hong Kong).
Firstly, when I went somewhere else,
I found that the interpersonal relationships
or dealing with these people
were actually very difficult.
Later, I followed to Germany,
where I worked in a clinic
as a nursing assistant.
Afterwards, in the next issue
Next episode
I can share some observations of German work culture with everyone
If everyone is interested
Just remember to subscribe to my channel
This episode of TP diary ends here
The above are some of my personal experiences
I also have some from friends
Actually, after completing the nursing degree
They chose not to work as nurses anymore
You can see that their salaries are high
Maybe as a new RN, they didn't demand much
The pay is high
I think we really need to be careful about this
With such high wages
Not enough staff
You can probably guess what the environment is like inside
This is just my personal experience
Or what I observed
Or many of them I actually heard from others
Maybe you can just listen to it as stories
Let's meet again in the next episode
If you like this video
You can also like, comment, and share
See you in the next episode
Bye bye
Hello everyone
I just finished watching some parts I edited
There are also some things I want to add
Because in the video, I talked a lot about
Encountering some bad people
Or many bad things happening
Actually,
I want to add
Actually, in this line of work, I have also encountered some very good people
Good experienced nurses
When I returned to TUNS (part-time nursing student)
Although there was a very bad nurse
But those experienced nurses
Are also very willing to teach
Very helpful
Giving us a lot of opportunities
For example, they might also invite us
To drink bubble tea
Invite us for afternoon tea
I was also very happy working
There are also some wards
Some nurses
Maybe there really aren't enough staff in the ward
They'll come back to help out when they're on AL (annual leave)
So I also respect them very much
And I'm very grateful to them
And when I was working in Germany
It was also because of these
Experiences working in emergency departments
So when I do things
When doing some skills
It's easier to handle
For example, prescribing medication, administering IVs
Connecting some instruments
My colleagues in Germany said I work very quickly
The bosses in Germany also like me very much
Hope I can continue to work there
I also really want to continue working there
But maybe because of visa issues
It's a bit more troublesome
Might not be able to start working immediately
Have to wait for some documents to be ready
Wait for some visas to be processed
Before being able to continue working
So I think these experiences
These work experiences
Though difficult, I think they are valuable
Or perhaps when I went to
That testing center, I might encounter some people
Engaged in power struggles
But actually, there are also many helpful people
For example, when we needed full PPE (personal protective equipment)
Following the regulations of that venue
It was an outdoor area without air conditioning
One noon
The sunlight was scorching hot
Like being in a steamer
Those nurses were really good
They would come back early from lunch
So we could start resting earlier
We would also come back early
So they could rest earlier too
It was a cycle
Everyone was very helpful to each other
It's just that the bad things or bad people
Often dominate
But overall
I still want to develop in this field
Just that Hong Kong
Maybe isn't the
Place I want to start with
Because I also want to experience different places
See different hospitals
Experience different systems
See how they operate
So I feel that
Whether it's past experiences
Or the current experiences working here
They are all very precious to me
Also, for me
They contribute greatly to my personal development
My ability to withstand pressure
Has also been greatly enhanced because of these things
So that's what I wanted to say
Just thank you to those who helped me before
Or taught me, the nurses
The teachers
The nurse managers
That's it
Goodbye
