💣 Israel's Military Offensive Against Hezbollah
Israel has launched an unprecedented assault on Southern Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah's leader Hassan Nasrallah and bombing its headquarters in Beirut. The attack resulted in at least six deaths and dozens injured, including children. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended the actions at the United Nations, while the US distanced itself from the operation. Iran, Hezbollah's primary supporter, condemned the attack as a crime. Israel continued military operations despite international pressure for a ceasefire.
🌪️ Hurricane Helen's Devastation and Netanyahu's UN Address
Hurricane Helen has caused massive destruction along the Gulf Coast of the United States, leaving at least 40 people dead and over 4 million without power. The storm, which was a category 4 when it made landfall, is still causing havoc as a tropical storm. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the UN, vowing to continue fighting in Gaza and Lebanon until Hamas and Hezbollah are defeated. His speech was met with mixed reactions, including delegates from Arab countries walking out.
🌎 Foreign Interference in Canadian Politics
Canada's spy agency has revealed new instances of foreign interference in the country's politics. Documents disclosed two new cases of interference on top of four previously known instances. One case involves a former Canadian politician attempting to influence Canadian parliament on behalf of a foreign government. The other case involves a foreign government's attempt to block the election of a Liberal MP. The details of these cases, including the identities of the politician and the foreign government, remain undisclosed for national security reasons.
🚨 Investigation into the Titan Submersible Tragedy
The hearings into the tragic implosion of the Titan submersible in June 2023 have concluded. The submersible, operated by Ocean Gate, was on a dive to the wreck of the Titanic when it imploded, killing all aboard. New details have emerged that surprised even the search leader, including the fact that the support vessel's crew felt the ship shudder when communication with Titan was lost, suggesting an implosion. The founder of Ocean Gate, Stockton Rush, who died in the incident, was portrayed as someone who dismissed safety concerns. The final reports from the US and Canadian investigations are pending, and a lawsuit by a passenger's family is ongoing.
🏀 Sports Legends: Vince Carter and Christine Sinclair
Former Toronto Raptor Vince Carter's jersey number 15 will be the first to be retired by the Raptors, honoring his 22-season NBA career and his contribution to the team's success. Canadian soccer legend Christine Sinclair announced her retirement after a remarkable career, including being the world's top goal scorer with 100 international goals. The tributes pour in for the late Maggie Smith, celebrated for her versatile acting career spanning over 70 years, known for roles in Harry Potter and Downton Abbey, and her wit both on and off the screen.

Global News
London and Global News has learned
Canada has begun coordinating commercial
flights for Citizens looking to flee
Lebanon the federal government says it's
reserving blocks of seats for people
willing to pay but notes there aren't
unlimited seats the government is also
trying to reach out to people who have
expressed interest in leaving Israeli
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cut
short that visit to New York and is
defiantly vowing to continue military
operations in Lebanon and Gaza despite
International pressure for a ceasefire
our Jeff simple brings us reaction from
the US and
Israel even before the Israeli Prime
Minister arrived in New York the
protesters were
waiting condemning Benjamin Netanyahu
for attacks in Gaza and now Lebanon he's
a war criminal and he should be jailed
his Excellency Benjamin Netanyahu he
entered the UN to both cheers and jeers
delegates from Arab countries walked out
ladies and gentlemen order
please all week world leaders have
railed against Israel Netanyahu hit back
I decided to come here and set the
record straight he threatened Iran
called the UN an anti-semitic swamp and
vowed to continue fighting in Gaza and
Lebanon until Hamas and Hezbollah are
defeated we are winning his message to
the world seemed largely tailored for a
domestic audience and the Israeli Prime
Minister is also facing pressure from
here in Israel particularly to bring the
hostages home I'm here in what's now
known as hostages Square in Tel Aviv
where you can see some of the faces of
the more than 100 Israeli civilians who
it's believed are still being held
hostage by Hamas in
Gaza for the past year this square has
hosted almost daily vigils this one
including family of the youngest hostage
kefir bius was just 9 months old when he
was taken by Hamas along with his
brother and mother Hamas later claimed
without evidence that they were killed
by an air strike their Uncle subscribes
to netanyahu's strategy we should not
stop the war we should not stop the
attacks we should not stop nothing
before the hostages will be at home not
in Gaza and not in Lebanon people like
him for his strong stance when it comes
to the security issues that we're
facing this Canadian Israeli lives in
the shadow of the air defense
system working overtime the past year
shooting down daily attacks it's really
frightening to live here you know we you
know as a Canadian as well I think we
take things for granted you know
security and peacefulness Israelis want
that threat to stop and the hostages
home but are divided over whether that's
best achieved through force or
ceasefires Israelis are completely
divided completely this political expert
says netanyahu's tough talk and action
risks antagonizing the us but we know
that the United States doesn't have a
stomach for big war both Trump and
camela Harris won this war to end so we
have to walk a fine line and he says
Netanyahu is also taking advantage of a
window betting that with 38 days to go
until the US election Washington
wouldn't dare stop supporting Israel
Carolyn Jeff simple in Jerusalem thank
you at least 40 people are dead and more
than 4 million without power after
Hurricane helim slammed into America's
Gulf Coast yesterday and despite
weakening the tropical storm is still
wreaking havoc there was simply no
escaping its wrath this is the moment a
man and his dog were rescued from their
boat the hurricane was more than 600
kilometers wide when it made landfall
producing a lifethreatening storm surge
as Jackson pra reports Helen is now
moving Inland pounding the Carolinas
Georgia and
Tennessee no longer a hurricane Halen is
still monster storm causing a flash
flood emergency across the Carolinas and
Tennessee this is one of the worst
storms in modern history for parts of
Western North
Carolina the end of the rain is not the
end of the threat in some areas four
months worth of rain have fallen in just
the last 2 Days in Tennessee at least 50
patients were trapped on the roof of a
hospital as it was surrounded by Rising
water at least one Dam has suffered a
catastrophic failure there are mudslides
evacuation orders and many roads are
washed away you live on a beach and you
expect hurricanes well this is this is
well over a 100e
storm Helen came ashore in Florida as a
category 4 storm late Thursday with
Winds of over 220
kmph Downing power lines and sparking
fires anybody in your house as storm
surge and high winds spread far from the
eye and as Helen moved further Inland so
did the destruction this woman with her
baby and dog had to be rescued from high
water in
Atlanta Daybreak brought a view of the
extens of damage in the town of Perry
Florida which took a direct hit
buildings crumbled the area is still
recovering from two earlier storms this
season the damage in in those counties
that were really in the the eye of the
storm uh has exceeded the damage of
idalia and Debbie combined as Millions
sit in the dark the rain keeps falling
and the water keeps Rising pushing
rescue crews to their limits we've been
through hurricanes in Maine and
Massachusetts that
never never did anything like this in
some areas the worst may be yet to
come cleanup is expected to take months
while Helen's toll will be measured in
the tens of billions of dollars and many
lives
lost Jackson prosco Global News
Washington Anthony fernell joins us now
Anthony where is the storm headed next
Carolyn from category 4 strength that
landfall last night to now just a
tropical depression but Heavy Rain
continues and that is the main threat
going forward the fact that all of this
water fell in such a short period of
time over some rather mountainous
terrain and we have flash flood
emergencies over multiple States you can
see the heaviest showers are moving away
from the area but the water has to go
somewhere and it's going to be moving
over some of these dams and into larger
Rivers so this is going to be a problem
for another day or two now as far as the
remnants of this storm it becomes just a
regular area of low pressure but it
lingers for the next couple of days
bringing additional rainfall to some of
the hardest hit areas so what lies ahead
in the Atlantic well there are currently
three named storms not just Helen but we
also have Isaac and Joyce both of those
storms will stay out in the Atlantic but
the National Hurricane Center also
watching two other areas of low pressure
and those are something we're going to
have to watch as the hurricane season
heats up late in
September Global News meteorologist
Anthony farell thank you former US
president Donald Trump is in New York
and today he met face to face with
Ukraine Ian President Vladimir zalinski
for the first time since 2019 there are
growing fears another Trump
Administration could end us support for
Ukraine's fight against Russia so we
have a very good relationship and I also
have a very good relationship as you
know with President Putin and I think uh
if we win I think we're going to get it
resolved very
quickly with less than 6 weeks until the
US election Trump the Republican
Presidential nominee is facing
accusations from his Democratic opponent
that he is pushing for Ukraine to
surrender Trump says he and zilinsky
both want a fair deal and for the war to
stop zalinsky says their meeting was
productive he's wrapping up a nearly
week-long visit to the US to drum up
military and financial
support we are learning more tonight
about the extent to which foreign actors
are infiltrating Canadian politics
documents released today at the public
inquiry into foreign interference
revealed two new cases on top of the
four other instances already disclosed
publicly Chief political correspondent
David Aken joins me now David what do we
know about these two new cases well in
the first case Carolyn cus says a former
Canadian politician tried to influence
the work of candidat parliament on
behalf of a foreign government but in
the documents put on the public record
by this inquiry much detail is missing
the politician is not identified it is
not clear if it's an MP or a senator the
foreign government is not identified and
there's no indication when this took
place good morning commissioner
Witnesses ce's officials say they have
to protect those secrets for National
Security while Canadians are watching
the hearings and the information that's
put in public so our
adversaries and right now I think we're
all very confident that our adversaries
are watching these hearings and are
reading every word the second case
disclosed by ce's Friday is similarly
short on identifying details but in the
second case cees says an unnamed foreign
Government tried to block the election
of a liberal MP the MP is not named and
again there is no indication when this
happened whether it was during the 2019
or 2021 Federal elections those are the
two elections that the inquiry is
examining reporting indicates a foreign
government undertook several actions
including interference to reduce the
likelihood of a specific liberal
candidate from being elected federally
the ceases document said it is suspected
that the foreign government sought to
thwart the candidates bid given their
support for issues perceived to be
contrary to the foreign government's
interests now this set of the inquiries
hearings wraps up on October the 16th
the Final witness prime minister Justin
Trudeau and the inquiries commissioner
Justice Maurice Jose hog she is to
submit her final report by the end of
the year Carolyn David Aken in Ottawa
thank you the family of John Wells a
respected indigenous leader and
well-known member of The Blood Tribe in
Calgary is speaking out for the first
time about his death Wells died after an
interaction with police on September
17th when officers responded to a call
of an unwanted person in the lobby of a
Calgary Hotel the province's police
Watchdog says Wells was unarmed confused
and had his hands up body camera footage
shows officers tackle and punch Wells as
well as deploy a taser and apply a spit
mask in a statement his family says John
was a loving father son grandson brother
uncle nephew and friend to many he's
just one of nine indigenous people who
have died in police altercation since
the end of August the Assembly of First
Nations is calling for indigenous
oversight in the investigation into
wells's death the hearings into the
Titan submersible tragedy have ended
coming up the new details that surprised
even the man who led the search
today was the final day of a two-e
hearing by the US Coast Guard into the
deadly Voyage of the Titan submersible
in June 2023 the Saab was on its way to
the wreck of the Titanic when it
imploded killing everyone inside
including Stockton Rush co-founder of
Ocean Gate the company that created and
operated the Titan as Heidi pic reports
testimony paints Rush as a man prepared
to go to extremes
almost after two weeks of Revelations
about Titan's fatal final dive new
details Friday even surprised the man in
charge of the search now crew members
from Titan's support vessel the polar
Prince told the FBI they felt the ship
shudder when Communications with Titan
were lost a possible sign of implosion
search officials didn't know about in
June last year information that could
have had a drastic impact on the search
efforts instead agencies scoured the
area for 4 days in hopes the vessel's
five passengers were Were Somehow still
alive until they discovered the tail
cone first and then um you know as we
continued to find additional debris it
became apparent that it had been a total
loss the founder of Ocean Gate stocked
and Rush died aboard Titan along with
four others who each paid
$250,000 us to dive to the Titanic
former Ocean Gate employees telling
investigators Rush repeatedly dismissed
safety concerns one testifying Rush
suggested paying off politicians to
bypass SC
he said I would buy a
congressman and make basically the
problems would go away at that point in
time Canada's Transportation safety
board launched its investigation into
the tragedy days after it happened last
June today it says it's still working on
its report and can't comment on any
specifics because the file is still
active one former tsp director hopes the
board will recommend requiring
submersibles in Canadian Waters to meet
International standards that would mean
that Canada transport Canada would not
need to develop regulations but it would
ensure the protection of Canadians final
reports from the US and Canadian
investigations won't be the end of
Titan's story a lawsuit by the family of
one of its passengers is before us
courts loved ones of those who died
continuing their search for closure ID
