play00:42

. Hi there, I'm Vicki, a.

play00:43

k.

play00:43

a.

play00:43

The Fashion Business Coach, and I love helping brands to strategically

play00:47

grow so that they can increase their sales and their profits as well.

play00:50

I've created a free glossary of must know fashion industry terms that are

play00:53

going to help you to scale your business.

play00:55

You must know what KPIs are, what YTD means, what GMROI is and ROI

play01:00

and a bunch more of different terms.

play01:01

So if you don't know what they are, head to the link to register for your

play01:04

completely free copy of that ebook.

play01:06

So let's dive into it.

play01:08

The best marketing strategy right now here in 2024 is relationship marketing.

play01:13

And this is really, really exciting news because it means that we don't

play01:16

have to post as much as perhaps we have been doing already on social media.

play01:20

It's also really exciting because it means that we don't have to focus on

play01:24

building a bigger and bigger audience all the time in order to make more sales.

play01:28

It actually allows us to leverage our existing audience, whether that's on

play01:32

a social media channel, whether it's an email list, whether it is both.

play01:35

And it's going to allow us to generate income through that existing list.

play01:40

This is amazing news because chances are you already have some followers and now

play01:44

you just need to get to know them better.

play01:46

Build that relationship and see your sales grow as a result.

play01:49

This topic right here right now is the biggest advantage that you

play01:52

have over big brands because big brands cannot use the strategy.

play01:56

They are going to have to keep producing a ton of content, spending loads on

play02:00

ads, spending loads on influencers,

play02:02

they're going to have to keep doing these things to stay visible.

play02:05

They don't have the luxury of a smaller audience that they can

play02:08

get to know really really well.

play02:10

So this is our superpower.

play02:11

So if you are somebody who is working alone in your fashion business or with

play02:16

a small team wondering how you can have impact without spending any money.

play02:21

This is it.

play02:21

This is for you relationship marketing is the solution that is going to help you

play02:24

to grow your business in this next year.

play02:26

Bottom line is that even in this digital age, people still buy from people.

play02:31

And crucially, they buy from people they like and that they trust.

play02:35

Think about it.

play02:36

If you were watching an ad and the person who was selling you this

play02:40

product was incredibly annoying, I mean, chances are you wouldn't

play02:43

even make it through the ad, right?

play02:45

But you're not going to buy from somebody if you find them annoying.

play02:48

You're not going to buy from someone, if you don't like them, you're going to feel

play02:51

icky about handing over your hard earned cash to somebody that you just don't like.

play02:55

And the same is true for your customers as well.

play02:58

So if you are somebody who has been hiding behind your computer screen and not

play03:02

showing people who you are, why you are passionate about your business, why you

play03:06

care about your customers, you are missing out because people are going to see you as

play03:10

a big company, which isn't a good thing.

play03:13

They're going to see you as one of those faceless corporations who just sits

play03:16

in their office and counts their cash.

play03:18

They want to hear from you your unique story and hear why

play03:21

they should care about you.

play03:22

Why should they invest in you and why should they support your business?

play03:25

For example, there's a brand that I buy from, they're called Bloomtown Botanicals,

play03:29

and I buy stuff like shower gel from them.

play03:31

How many places could I buy shower gel?

play03:33

I could buy it a lot cheaper.

play03:35

I could buy it from places that are a lot more convenient for me.

play03:38

I could buy it when I'm doing my grocery shopping, when I'm

play03:40

checking out somewhere else.

play03:41

But no, I buy it from them.

play03:43

Because they've always taken the time to chat with me, whether it's

play03:46

online, whether it's via email.

play03:48

And I want them to succeed.

play03:49

We've had brief chats about their cats that they adopted from Bali

play03:53

and how they have this passion for their brand and the environment and

play03:56

all these things that we connect on.

play03:58

So I'm going to keep buying from them, even though there are cheaper and

play04:01

more convenient options out there, I'm still going to buy from them.

play04:05

And that is the power of relationship marketing.

play04:07

It is going to make people feel like they know you personally and

play04:11

therefore want to support you.

play04:12

Another side to this is that sales is all about trust.

play04:16

Think about it.

play04:17

How many people do you know, or maybe it's happened to you, who have made

play04:21

a purchase online and then they've had some fraudulent activity on their

play04:25

credit card, or they've been spammed with a bunch of things in the mail,

play04:29

or they've had their details sold or they got the product and it was really

play04:32

rubbish and they couldn't return it.

play04:34

All these different scenarios of people who've had unhappy experiences.

play04:38

And the reality is the more businesses that have popped up online, the more

play04:42

bad businesses that are, and therefore the more bad experiences there are.

play04:45

So people are more nervous about purchasing from a brand that

play04:48

they've never heard of before or never shopped with before.

play04:51

So having these relationships is also going to build the trust with

play04:54

that audience so that they feel confident in purchasing from you.

play04:57

The key takeaway here is that we don't want to be creating a one

play05:01

way street with our marketing.

play05:02

We don't just want to be posting, posting, posting.

play05:05

We want to actually take the time to chat with our customers, engage with them,

play05:09

understand them, get to know them better.

play05:11

That is the bottom line here.

play05:13

And I would love to know, let me know in the comments.

play05:15

Be honest.

play05:16

Has your marketing been a bit of a one way street so far up to this point?

play05:20

Have you just been posting stuff and not really asking questions, not

play05:24

really getting to know your audience?

play05:25

If I ask you about your audience, can you tell me any personal

play05:29

details of any of your customers?

play05:31

Like their likes, their dislikes, what they like about your brand?

play05:33

Probably not.

play05:34

And that is what you need to be working on this year.

play05:37

So we've established that we want to be using relationship

play05:39

marketing for our fashion brand.

play05:41

So how do we do this?

play05:42

Essentially, bottom line, we're going to be asking more questions of our audience,

play05:46

of our customers, and we're actually going to care about their response.

play05:49

We're personally going to reply to them or maybe a team member

play05:52

if you are a bigger company.

play05:53

But as a CEO, I highly, highly recommend that you do this

play05:58

yourself from time to time.

play05:59

I've worked with companies who have hundreds of millions in sales and

play06:03

their CEO still gets on the phone sometimes and chats to customers.

play06:07

It is that powerful, this process.

play06:10

And so many of you are missing out on this.

play06:12

I am sure of it.

play06:13

The other great thing about this is as well as this being a free process that

play06:16

you can do, you can leverage your existing platforms and it's actually going to

play06:19

help you grow on those platforms as well.

play06:22

As we talked about, growth isn't really the goal here.

play06:24

We don't need a bigger audience.

play06:25

We just need to activate our audience.

play06:28

But if you are using something like Instagram or Tiktok or Facebook or

play06:31

any channel like that, the more that you engage with the audience, so the

play06:35

more comments and dms and shares and things like that, that you get, that's

play06:38

gonna be good for the algorithm.

play06:40

So your content that you are posting, if you continue to do that, is

play06:43

going to be seen by more people.

play06:46

So we kind of have this double win here.

play06:47

We can actually amplify what we are posting if we're gonna use that strategy

play06:52

by A, getting it seen by more people.

play06:54

And B, the people who are seeing it are gonna care more because

play06:57

we've started to chat with them.

play06:59

I want you to kind of reframe your thinking a little bit

play07:01

when it comes to social media.

play07:02

I want you to start thinking of it as a conversation channel, social media, the

play07:06

clues in the title being social, right?

play07:09

So I want you to make sure that keeping on top of comments and DMs is higher

play07:13

on your priority list versus posting.

play07:15

We don't just want to keep posting and ignoring people because

play07:18

people are going to be annoyed.

play07:20

People are going to feel let down by you and the algorithm

play07:22

isn't going to like it either.

play07:24

Good questions you can ask people is what kind of things are you wanting to buy

play07:27

or what occasions are you shopping for?

play07:29

For example, one brand I worked with had these fantastic, princess style

play07:33

dresses, and we would always ask the audience what kind of events they were

play07:36

going to, and they'd tell us about these fabulous plans that they had, and

play07:39

it's a great opportunity to have these sorts of conversations, understand, the

play07:43

lifestyle of your customers more, and therefore being able to make personal

play07:47

recommendations of things that they will like, which is going to help us

play07:50

sell our products because we're not just blanket marketing to everybody saying,

play07:54

buy this, buy this, but we're giving a personal tailored recommendations,

play07:57

which can be really, really powerful.

play07:59

Side note, to do this well, you're going to need to be really clear on

play08:02

who it is that your target audience is.

play08:04

Now, this is something that you should have done right at the start of your

play08:08

fashion brand journey, but if you haven't, definitely start some work on

play08:11

that and really deep dive into who it is that you are selling to, what their

play08:15

interests are, what their psychology is.

play08:18

So much about selling is about psychology and emotion, so make sure

play08:21

you understand what makes them tick.

play08:23

If you want help with this and understanding your audience and also help

play08:26

with this engagement piece with attracting people to your business with social

play08:30

media, email marketing, all the things, definitely check out The Fashion Marketing

play08:34

Course where I go through step by step my signature ACES framework, which helps

play08:38

us to attract customers to our business, engage with them and then sell to them.

play08:43

So if you are newer to the fashion marketing scene, or if you're

play08:46

not really seeing much success so far with your marketing, then

play08:49

that is a great option for you.

play08:51

Another massively, massively underused marketing technique is

play08:54

giving great customer service.

play08:56

And frankly, that should be a given for everybody, but I see

play08:59

terrible customer service so often.

play09:02

And you are really losing sales because of this.

play09:04

I think about brands that I shop with and questions I ask and often I'll just get

play09:09

this response that's clearly like a bot or just some sort of template that the person

play09:13

couldn't be bothered to customize and the number of times even in just the past

play09:17

couple months that I've had to respond to a customer service message saying thanks

play09:21

but this doesn't answer my question.

play09:23

Honestly I just, I'm mind blown by this.

play09:26

So customer service is really really important.

play09:29

Imagine you are in Hermes, I can't do French accents well, or

play09:33

Chanel or somewhere like that.

play09:34

Imagine you're in the store, the service is going to be pretty epic, right?

play09:38

It's going to be pretty personal, you're going to get all the

play09:40

help and support that you need.

play09:42

Now think about how you can translate that to your online sales, particularly if

play09:46

you are selling a higher priced product.

play09:47

How can you bring that level of experience, that level of service,

play09:51

that level of personalization into the online space?

play09:54

There are a ton of different ways that you can do this and get great results from it.

play09:58

So make sure that you are spending time answering customer

play10:01

service questions properly.

play10:03

And in a way that, as we talked about at the start, builds that relationship,

play10:07

gets people excited to get to know you.

play10:09

And thinks, wow, this person's really nice, this business means a lot to them.

play10:13

I should support them.

play10:15

How can we have these genuine conversations with people in a way

play10:18

that really makes them feel like they are valued and that they are making

play10:21

the right choice by shopping with us?

play10:23

Great Customer Service is super personal.

play10:25

It asks questions, it listens, it creates rapport with customers and

play10:29

makes personalized suggestions.

play10:31

We're not just blanket showing, oh, here's my shop now page and

play10:34

you've got everything on there.

play10:35

We want to make sure that we're tailoring the suggestions that we make

play10:38

for our customers to their needs and also being mindful of the questions

play10:42

they've asked and what kind of answers we can give them that's going to

play10:45

best equip them and help them to feel confident in shopping with us.

play10:48

Bonus tip, if you implement these steps, you'll find that not only do you make

play10:52

more sales sort of in the immediate future from using these strategies, from building

play10:56

this rapport, these relationships, but also you'll notice over time that your

play11:00

returning customer figure gets higher, aka you'll have more repeat buyers.

play11:05

And this is a really, really powerful thing because it's considerably

play11:08

harder to sell to a new customer versus returning customers.

play11:12

So this is a really great way to not only get more sales today,

play11:16

but also in the future as well.

play11:17

And just seeing more and more customers come back for more, seeing more

play11:20

customers recommending you as well.

play11:23

You can even take this a step further by encouraging more repeat customers

play11:26

by making sure that you have email sequences going out that are checking

play11:30

in with the customer, seeing how they're getting on with their purchase, asking

play11:33

for reviews, and making sure that any emails that go out in the future are

play11:37

personalized to the fact that they are a valued customer rather than somebody

play11:41

who has never shopped with you before.
