Transcripts
all right Marvel Comics have now
announced 13 new ongoings four midi
series and one shot since we gotten into
X-Men From the Ashes they're definitely
preparing for a lot of canceled cic
books this week doc getting prepped for
all the stuff that isn't going to last
like NYX exceptional X-Men X Factor
probably storm definitely Phoenix likely
mystique and I mean Sentinel was all
Sentinel was already a miniseries they
keep announcing these titles and it
becomes very very clear
that most of it has to do with the fact
that they have zero faith in the books
that are currently out there oh yeah I
think they've gotten the pre-orders on
them and are realizing they don't have a
lot of winners certainly X-Men Uncanny
X-Men Wolverine I think X Factor will
will probably survive for quite a while
xforce I'm sorry you're right but
otherwise they're scrambling to find
some titles first up we do have this one
shot to talk about Marvel Comics
revealed their year ending one shot
similar to Timeless and it goes by the
name time slide time slide Stars the
X-Men's resident time traveling soldiers
bishop and cable as they Blaze through
the time stream to prevent a villain
from eliminating mutant kind from
history the high stakes Mission allows
readers to witness events just on the
horizon for your favorite Marvel heroes
including upcoming events new characters
and more written by Steve Fox with art
by Ivan ferelli the One Shot will launch
into comic shops on December 25th so
this isn't a New Concept we've seen the
two Timeless books which I think were
mostly k out there and they've actually
been pretty decent and I imagine when I
first sent you the article and you're
reading up on this you were kind of
excited two of your favorite X-Men
Heroes they still want to do this
concept pay us money for an $8 $9
preview book that we used to give away
to for free because idiots out there are
still buying it but now they're using
the time traveling mutants that Tom BR
just got done telling us they're not
going to be using but Marvel's own
inconsistency aside I get bishop and
cable except for I have to deal with it
from Steve Fox that is the bad news
isn't it there's never like fully good
news at Marvel right now even whenever
they do announce something that sounds
on the surface truly intriguing they
have to ruin it by putting a Steve Fox a
Steve Orlando a generic Stephanie a
Colin Kelly and Jackson lanig a
Christopher can't WR well all of these
writers they have to stick that on the
book that actually might have some
promise hey great a solo Wolverine book
soladine ammed hey a Jonathan Hickman
Greg capula Wolverine book completely
not in continuity there's always the rug
pull moment with everything from Marvel
and Steve Fox's presence here is that
same rug pull moment yeah it's
definitely unwanted you know especially
after reading that X-Men air to the
Empire and reading some of the other
X-Men stuff I'm surprised Tom reard is
even keeping him around although I will
admit his X-Men 97 like companion comic
to the cartoon that was on Disney plus
is certainly the best thing that he's
done but he's just adapting stuff to
somebody else's storyline and material
so it's not exactly like it was his idea
anyway but he's just not a very exciting
writer he's the guy that came up with a
seamster Spiderman so I didn't like that
but Ivan ferelli is certainly a good
artist that's perfectly fine but I will
say this reading Timeless and I did like
Timeless I think the two issues were
perfectly fine a lot of the big stuff
they set up really never happened King
never ended up being a big deal in
Marvel Comics they never really used him
they did tease the Doctor Doom as a
sorcer supreme but it didn't happen for
like 18 months so a lot of this stuff
even if it does happen it might not even
happen very soon so you're getting
previews of stuff that might never even
come to fruition I remember reading
through a lot of the timeless books most
of the the stuff that was in these books
Never Happened like I get that they were
trying they were planning for that to
happen but for whatever reason sales
cancellations a lot of those stories
didn't end up coming to fruition they
didn't end up being done or when they
did happen they were such minor plot
points it became very clear that the
Timeless book was just trying to Hype
people for titles that no one was
reading because they took like the one
cool scene out of an otherwise terrible
dumb uninteresting book and they stuck
it in there yeah but I would like a Time
slide series I think that's pretty good
concept it's a better concept than most
of what they're actually putting out
there I think a cable and Bishop teamup
book would be perfectly fun not written
by Steve Fox obviously but we're not
getting that we're only getting the one
shot so I guess that's uh you know a
little bit of a bummer because even if
it's good you're not even going to get
more than that we do have some more
series coming out Rogan Magneto once
shared a toured arms length romance
while adventuring in the Savage land and
Marvel Comics is returning to that early
90s comic ERA with Rogue The Savage land
a new limited series written by Tim cely
with art from zulma Lavina making her
Marvel debut the series takes place in
between Uncanny X-Men 269 and 275 by
legendary creators Chris Claremont and
Jim Lee Rogue The Savage land will Bell
deeper into Rogue sojourn through the
hidden land which is still populated by
dinosaurs ancient mammals and things
much larger than that another one of
these throwback books to something that
happened 30 years ago but this time
instead of getting like an acclaimed
awesome old school talent you're getting
Tim cely instead of getting you know
giving Chris Claremont more opportunity
to again flush out stories between
issues the way he did with that storm
and Gambit miniseries a few years ago
and the way he's done on these last
couple of Wolverine ones this time we
get Tim
cely the human embodiment of the color
beige fine whatever um I mean look Tim
SE is saying all the right things about
this book he he talks about it's
scantily clad women and all these other
things yes we love the fact that Rogue
is scantily clad in this absolutely that
being said all it is is going to end up
being is a goofy romantic thing that
nobody's going to really care that much
about we already saw the ending of this
uh we already saw them not have any
connection for the people that are you
know big Gambit Rogue shippers that love
that that pairing that are pissed off
about this because I did see a number of
people pissed off about it they hadn't
met yet so it was never a rogue cheating
on Gambit with uh Magneto thing but
there's not a lot more to tell down
there the only thing that they could
tell and I'm hoping that this is what it
is the end of 269 there was hellfire
club I guess those Security Guys the
ones that were like the kind of gimp
suits the ones that Wolverine
slaughtered a bunch of back in the
Phoenix Saga if you tell that story and
I hope that they do because there was a
lot of stuff that wasn't covered at the
end of 269 then was never picked up on
again at issue 274 if it's just the
continuation of the Rogue and Magneto
hanging out with Kazar and zabu and Nick
Fury storyline with the uh with zaladane
and the Savage land mutates nobody cares
we've already seen enough of that we
don't want to see that I want to see
whatever was going on with the fucking
hellfire club and why Magneto was in The
Savage land in the first place with a
bunch of Hellfire goons do you want to
see Magneto and Rogue get it on multiple
times look if they're just going to turn
it into a romance comic no but what I
mind some of the sexual tension and
everything not really because by the
time you got to issue 274 it was there
in the first couple of pages and by the
time Nick Fury shows up there really
isn't anymore obviously this is being
picked up because it was a major part I
guess in X-Men 97 which does give you an
indication that that cartoon at least in
disy and Marvel's eyes is successful
because it's now starting to drive some
of the stories that they're going to
revisit you within Marvel Comics itself
for a cartoon it is very successful it's
probably one of their more successful
cartoons that they've done so far it is
telling them that readers and viewers
want more stories told back in that that
era but it's also should be telling them
hey we want a return to that era type
storytelling but they don't want to
listen to that fucking shit they just
want to be like oh but we could tell
this story that happens between two
pages of books 400 100 issues ago that
can't alter the continuity in any way
shape or form and are already kind of
pointless whenever they're released we
do have wood War series out there this
one's going to be an ongoing new X-Men
series magic will debut on January 8th
written by Ashley Allen and illustrated
by Amman Peralta it is the character's
first ever ongoing solo series Iana
Rasputin strikes out on her own with new
allies and dark Powers arrayed against
her something ancient has awakened
beneath the Alaskan ice unfortunately
for it that's Magic's territory now
throughout the series magic will also be
forced to come to terms with her tragic
history and learn to control her demonic
dark child Persona so now we've got six
ongoing solo titles that have been
announced from Marvel CICS five of them
are now starring females you only have
Wolverine and then a bunch of um female
Le ongoing books most of them probably
won't be all that
successful I don't see this one being
all that successful either even though
magic is a pretty cool character and I
do like aont baral he was the artist on
much of the Maestro series from Peter
David he was really really good there
glad to see him getting some more work
but I don't see this becoming and
ongoing it will be retroactively
considered a miniseries if you believe
that this is a uh ongoing series I have
a bridge to sell you right in like the
middle of Brooklyn like the Brooklyn
Bridge yeah I'll sell it to you tomorrow
if you're dumb enough to believe that
this is a ongoing series it's obviously
just another replacement book for
another one of the cancel series and by
the time the pre-orders for issue one
happen completely unrelated you'll hear
about the launch of another ongoing girl
solo series from the X lineup and it
will just be completely coincidental
when magic only turns into a 4issue
miniseries or a five isue miniseries how
much heavy lifting can J Scott Campbell
variant covers or um Terry Dodson
variant covers how much heavy lifting
can they do to keep this book afloat
that's how long this title's going to
last does anybody really need more
exploration of magic and ilana's dark
child Persona haven't we gotten enough
of it there's not really a lot more
stories to tell maybe this is me just
speaking with some personal bias and
I'll admit that
but the whole limbo aspect of the
character and that
local bores me there's enough characters
that have some sort of connection to
Hell the underworld
Valhalla limbo and all these other
essentially the exact same places do we
need more ancient evils under the ice
that get Unearthed not really how many
X-Men can we have in fucking Alaska
we've got the entire X-Men team we've
got Wolverine and now we got magic are
we sure that's not Wolverine's territory
I could tell you exactly why because
drawing on snow is really easy you don't
have to draw backgrounds there I lived
in Alaska Alaska is a great state I'm
just wondering why the entire because
series of xed characters is there now
now as far as the writer I don't believe
you know who Ashley Allen is not a clue
literally never heard of this trick she
was part of the Milestone initiative
that DC did I I think
like two years ago she was one of the
people that was accepted in there and
went through the course and all that
kind of stuff never really got any work
over at DC interestingly enough but she
did do the blood hunt Magic One Shot not
a whole lot to draw on there it was a
pretty basic story not many moving parts
and it's hard to tell even if this is a
promising talent but I do do know that
the book was boring but it was only a
one shot so this is a new talent and
hopefully they discovered somebody
that maybe likes the character and has
an idea of something to do with magic
that's actually interesting because I
was pretty happy when she let what's her
face become the new queen of limbo or
whatever mateline prior I was like great
she's not going to do the limbo crap
anymore and now we're going to go back
to limbo they don't have any other ideas
for what to do with magic there was a
very very small but very very vocal
magic fandom that gets super hyped every
time she ends up in a book apparent
apparently never buys the book because
anything she's magic is in gets
cancelled and now you're giving her a
solo series unless this is a complete
test and you've commissioned the series
solely to figure out how many actual
fans of magic there are and not just
people that cheer whenever you announce
that she's in something I don't see what
the point of this book is honestly I'd
be happier to see a meline prior magic
story where neither both of them are
fighting for who will rule limbo but by
doing it with neither of them wanting to
do it and they have to fight each other
and loser has to take over the role
because limbo fucking sucks certainly be
on the lookout for new ongoing titles to
be replacing the outgoing ongoing titles
that are being scrunched down in
miniseries that's clearly what's going
on here a lot of this the ashes stuff
really isn't working out I'm not really
even sure what they're going for at this
point other than throw everything at the
wall whatever sticks is what we're going
to do and they're going to keep throwing
things at the wall indefinitely because
there is nothing to stick nobody wants
it they keep demonstrating it by not
buying it so there you go that's the
latest update regarding new xmed cows we
got a onot replacing tles we got a
throwback miniseries we got an ongoing
that will be condensed into a Min series
coming up in the not too distant future
as Marvel continue to struggle with
their F the Ash's X-Men line trying to
figure out what's going to work if you
would like the entire conversation about
this and our exclusive review on
Wolverine number one unedited which will
be up on YouTube tomorrow but it'll have
