one of my favorite things about the
Philippines is what's known as the
monopole it's sort of like how the
younger people in the Philippines honor
the older people what happens is when
they walk into a house where there's
friends or family they go up to of
somebody who's older in the room they
take their hand and they place it right
on their forehead just like this so
they'll take the other person's hand
take it and then put it right on their
forehead for a second or two I remember
seeing this for the first time three
years ago it was in America we went into
a Filipino home and one of the younger
girls went up to her grandfather took
his hand and placed her on her forehead
and I asked I was like what is that like
why didn't she do that like what's the
purpose behind that and the people told
me it's a sign of respect basically
she's just asking for the blessing from
that particular person and I thought
that was so cool because in America all
we do is you know what we'll give
someone a hug we'll shake their hand
something like that but I think in the
Philippines respect plays a big part in
their culture in general so I thought
that was just such a cool little thing
what I will say is be careful though
because some people aren't old yet or
they don't want to be perceived as older
so like when you try to like do that
thing with them they don't want to do it
they don't they don't want to give you
their hand like when I was walking
around in the Philippines I made so many
mistakes because I I would go up to
someone I know who was older than me but
they're not really that old and I try to
take their hand and they wouldn't give
me their hand because I think they
didn't want me to bless them because I
think that maybe they didn't want to be
perceived as old yet so it's a gray line
you have to really be sort of conscious
about how you're doing that but if
you're dating a Filipino or if you're
dating someone from the Philippines be
sure or when you go over there or when
you're around their family
make sure to bless their mother and
father and anyone in their family or
extended family that you think deserves
it because respect plays a big part in
their culture and they're super laid
back they're awesome people
but respect does play a big role in what
they do and I just wanted to share that
with with you guys today the manual pump
taking their hand placing it right on
the forehead just like that alright guys
awesome
thank you Tom
